I find this song so joyful. I need to revisit this album more often.

Bands change with the times... they evolve, at least the good ones do and the Hip did this beautifully throughout the years. Again I would recommend the "No Dress Rehearsal" documentary, you'll get an absolutely perfect picture of the entire evolution of the band. It wouldn't spoil your reviews, I think it would help you realize the context of the songs better.

Now this! This is a different one that I love. This album is so great. Man as the opener is strange and ethereal and Machine is such a banging, driving thump of a song

This is one of my favourite albums of all time, Machine is the absolute perfect ending to it as well

This was the album they were supposed to tour when Downie received his surprise cancer diagnosis. Gord immediately underwent surgery, radiation, and chemo, and nobody expected that a tour would happen. But, as we all know, Downie was miraculously able to put on that short, cross-Canada finale tour instead.

The Hip chose Kevin Drew to produce Man Machine Poem (Kevin would also produce Gord Downies final solo album Secret Path.). Drew is one of the founding members of the seminal Canadian music collective Broken Social Scene. (seminal is a strong word but truly BSS would go one through it's many members to influence and shape the Canadian Pop Rock sound). Listen to BSS's Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl, or Fiest's Mushaboom or the Stars' Reunion and you can hear Drew's "brooding melody over muffled but driving rhythm" style's influence. A World Possessed By Human Mind was clearly influenced to great effect by Drew's production style.

This might be their favorite album of mine. Would love to see you react to every song.
