You've stumbled on Canada's unofficial national band and a serious treasure. This song is about a real, small Ontario town and is one of their most simple, beautiful songs. The Hip are uniquely Canadian, name-checking towns, cities, neighbourhoods and famous Canadians in so many of their songs. This song also makes a very artistic reference to the 1933 Christie Pit riots, a lower moment in Toronto history where anti-semitic bigots showed up at a baseball game waving Nazi flags and violence ensued. Great choice you guys - peace and love from Canada! RIP Gord, we miss you!
I've never heard this song before but it really hit me in the feels for some reason. I will be checking out this band, myself. Thanks for reaching to it.
Hey, random follow up - did you end up checking out more Tragically Hip? If so, what did you think? If not, why are you waiting for?!? Lol would you like some recommendations?
As a Canadian from guelph Ontario. This makes me sooooooo happy to see you guys react to a true Canadian icon. I grew up on the Hip and I was absolutely crushed when Gord finally passed. Canada came to a complete stop.
Before Gordon passed he was fighting brain cancer while advocating for first nations people. He wrote an album telling stories of a kid who ran away from a residential school trying to get home. Not only is this band important for Canada, but for us first nations people as well. Gordon was one of the few Canadians who recognized the tragedies of residential schools and living conditions of first nations people in Canada. May he R.I.P.
Right to the last concert he mentioned the plight of the northern First Nations communities and pleaded with the PM for action. Gord was a true humanitarian.
I was just reminisced about that fact, I don't want to live in the GTA any more. My soul needs trees and open water, rivers and wildlife all around me. At night under the stars that we don't see in the city.
@@craigrobertson5030 So I was born in Toronto and have lived here all my 50+ years. Although I totally understand that yearning for being immersed in nature, I think that there are a few places in the city that do a pretty impressive imitation of wilderness, especially if you can dampen the ambient hum of the city. I live in the west end, so I'd recommend King's Mill Park and Etienne Brule Park, on either side of (more or less) Old Mill subway station ... There are paved roads and paths, but there are also tons of side trails through the woods that are pretty great. You can also get a similar effect a mere couple hundred meters from Yonge St: I think it's called Balfour Park, and it runs south through a ravine all the way to Rosedale and beyond. One end is at the southern tip of Mount Pleasant cemetery, and I've never actually followed the whole trail. (There's a staircase at Summerhill that's my "exit".) The greatetst thing about places like this is that you can feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, yet you can be on the subway in five minutes, if you need to be.
Asia! BJ! Yes! Yes! Yes! You just warmed my little Canadian heart! The Hip are considered by many to be Canada's band. Bobcaygeon is in Northern Ontario and considered "cottage country" down here in the cities. Gord Downie (lead singer) considered himself a poet first and their music reflects the Canadian experience with songs like Wheat Kings and 50 Mission Cap, etc. Here's a little rock history, The Hip song "New Orleans is sinking" from 1989 was not played for months after Katrina out of respect for our American cousins who were suffering back then. The phrase in the song is metaphorical, written years before, but it would have been in bad taste. Sadly, Gord passed away from a brain tumour in 2017, but they did a national tour just before he left us. Their final concert was in Kingston, Ontario (where they are from) and CBC played it free for all of us to see. The CBC filmed until The Hip were done, God he must have sung 30 songs it seemed! It was emotional for most of us knowing it was his last. RIP Gord Downie. Canada misses you. I won't be surprised if you grab more Canadian subscribers with The Hip. Now I'm going to watch your video! LOL!! Much Love!!
Thanks for giving Asia & BJ a great bit of Hip background as well as hopefully inspiring them to react to New Orleans Is Sinking.....but.....I never considered us as northern Ontario - maybe central/eastern. Greetings from Buckhorn, down the road from Bobcaygeon.
@@CharCanuck14 im from Northern Ontario so I always find it amusing that anything north of the GTA some people call Northern Ontario. Barrie and Parry Sound is not Northern Ontario!!
Gord was a Canadian folk singer. He didnt just perform, he created sonic visions with his poetry, and stories of the nation, the people, and the world. His last years on earth, he comitted himself to the plight of our indigenous aboriginal youth. Hes revered by the Canadian people. Thanks for honouring him.
What could these people possibly know about Bobcaygeon. All these Americans doing videos on The Hip that haven’t got a clue. Do what you Americans did for 30 years ignore Canada’s treasure
This is how Gord still lives. When someone new hears his composition and feels like these two did, that's the spirit of Gord alighting as a delight within them. In that way, he is immortal.
Hey, Canadians, Gord didn't just belong to you. He also belonged to us Americans who lived along the border or along one of the Lakes. He spoke to us about our own small towns (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) and our own icons (Gus, the Polar Bear from Central Park), and our shared landmarks (Niagara Falls in several songs like Daredevil). Gord was our warrior poet, too. He was our hero. He was our voice. Small town America along the border is SO similar to small town Canada. We all lost Gord that October day. We all mourned. When people say, "The Hip really weren't known in America" I laugh because for some of us, for a chunk of land along the longest (formerly) unprotected border in the world, WE lost someone special, too. Pleasse don't dismiss us. I've been a fan since 1989 or 1990, the first time I heard them on Canadian Radio. That said, I love my Canuck family. In Gord We Trust. And THAT said, I've been waiting years for reaction videos to The Hip, and lately there have been many. Thank you, Asia and BJ. Great reaction. One thing, though, he didn't say HE could have been Willie Nelson. Gord said that (it) could have been THE Willie Nelson, (or it) could have been the wine. He overslept. He woke up late for work. They spent the previous night drinking and listening to country music (or smoking "Willie Weed"). He's hung over and now has to drive into Toronto for work, but he's thinking of calling off. But that's the wonderful thing about Gord's lyrics, and the Hip's music, they can be interpreted SO many ways.
Happy to share Gord and The Hip with any like-minded people with good musical taste. We all morn his loss and keep his spirit alive by listening to all of our favourite songs.
Well said sir! An appreciation of good music by great artists is another of our commonalities that I value greatly. That said, we are very happy to share the Hip as well as other great Canadian artists. BTW, "The Willy Nelson" in the lyrics is a reference to marijuana.
You guys nailed the deep meanings of this song, thanks so much for giving it the love! At the end of this song guitarist Rob Baker has "This machine kills fascists" written on his guitar, a huge nod to singer\songwriter Woodie Guthrie who wrote a lot of anti-nazi songs during WW2 and had the same message scribbled on his guitar. You probably know Woodie's most famous song "This land is your land".
The Line about the checkered floors and The Men They Couldn't Hang is also an anti fascist statement. The line refers to The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto where the band The Men They Couldn't hang sang about famous fights in both England and Toronto between neo-nais and anti-fascists.
Gord Downie cleverly uses the lyric 'Willie Nelson' as a code word for Ganja. "Could've been the Willie, or it could've been the wine!! It's even more brilliant when you realize that's exactly how a COP would've had to 'discreetly' write that same lyric. Do you see the hidden layers of lyrical-genius at play here?
Spent every summer of my life growing up visiting Bobcaygeon, Coboconk, and Fenelon Falls. Our family was lucky enough to have cottage in the area. It wasn't until I was man when I realized this songs importance. Bless.
The line "That night in Toronto, with it's checkerboard floors" refers to The Horseshoe Tavern, a legendary music venue in Toronto. A lot of big names have played there, including The Hip themselves many times.
Saw the Hip there in 1991! Was their 2nd CD release party.. only so many could attend .. the show was awesome.. saw Mike Keenan and Ed Belfore there too ! ❤
I was 18 when the Hip dropped their first album. They performed the soundtrack of my life. I can’t listen to Gord sing without getting super emotional. Love is not a strong enough word for what the Hip means to me and my country.
So many underlying themes in this video. Gord was a big advocate for indigenous people in Canada. So the riot scene with the “Arian” band was symbolic of how we should be fighting against how the indigenous people were killed at residential schools for so long. The fact that he is a horseback cop. And he says that night in Toronto with it’s checkerboard floors. The is in reference to a local bar called the horseshoe tavern. Known for having checkerboard tile floors. The opening line is great too when he sings “ could’ve been the willie Nelson (weed) could’ve been the wine” Gord was just so perfect at storytelling. In particular telling stories about Canada, our culture and our history
As a small town Canadian - thank you for revisiting The Hip. Blow at High Dough, New Orleans is Sinking, and Courage are more of their songs that you should check out. All are amazing. Another Iconic Canadian band that I would LOVE for you to do a reaction to is Blue Rodeo. They have a 30 year rabbit hole of music to explore. Try, Diamond Mine, Lost Together, Bad Timing, Trust Yourself is just a small list to get you started. They have SO many hits. Hugs and love from Canada.
One of my favourite songs of all time. Nothing better than rocking out to this while camping, or up at a cottage. Peace from Canada. Great channel, cheers!
When it became public that Gord was dying and they were doing one last tour, CBC (Canada’s biggest national tv station) broadcast their final show live and most of the country watched. Me and a large group of friends filled one of our buddies living room/kitchen and no one sat the entire night, was as if we were all standing there live watching the concert, drinking, toking, singing along and well of course crying by the end. THIS is Canada’s band
Thanks you so much for commenting and sharing your account of The Tragically Hip when they broadcasted their final show. I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about that performance and the emotional yet stoic look on the faces of all of Canada.
@@AsiaandBJ just checked out your guys reaction to said concert and thank you very much. It real was like that country wide that night, all those different locations that you saw and many living rooms like the one I was in all standing and singing and wasn’t a dry eye in the house, teared up again just watching your guys reaction.
That was an incredible night. We were all crying. Everyone remembers exactly where they were and who they were with that night. It's carved into our national history.
@@AsiaandBJ Think of 1/3 of an Entire country shutting down Main Streets putting up huge tv screens, and most of the town gathering in honour and sadness, knowing this will be the last time "The Hip", the conscience of Canada would ever play. It was for us, "The Day The Music Died", the country was in mourning, as it has been since Gord passed on. He was the most Humane Human Being most of us have ever known.
I’m literally blown away! I love love this song. I went and checked them out on Spotify, they are a damn good rock band, and sometimes bluesy. So many good songs, the lyrics to a lot of their songs read like poetry or a story. Thanks guys for show casing this band!
Long been my favourite Hip track! Gord's words have a way of making you feel like you're there! Bobcaygeon is a little town, part of the Kawartha Lakes/Trent-Severn waterway system, just northeast of Toronto. Beautiful vacation spot! The Tragically Hip is a rabbit hole well worth your while! Tracks like New Orleans Is Sinking, Ahead By A Century, Wheat Kings, Courage, Grace Too, Locked In A Trunk Of A Car & Fifty-Mission Cap are all essential listens!! Cheers from Canada, eh!!
I feel like I’m driving to the cottage in summertime-I love this song. I loved your reaction to it. I think all of Canada may be in the comments 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦 RIP Gord 🙏🏼
Toronto is the largest city in Canada, and carries with it big city vibes, like all big cities. But on the weekend it feels like everybody escapes the big city, fan out to cottage country, like Bobcaygeon, to get away, to find weekend peace, and certainly long-weekend peace. The funny thing is that the traffic leaving Friday evening out, and Sunday back in is crazy, bumper-to-bumper.
Thanks for introducing me to this band. I'm from Scotland, but I've actually visited Bobcaygeon, in 1978 when my family and I spent a few idyllic days living on a houseboat on the lake. It was a friendly quaint little town then and I very much enjoyed my stay. I really hope it hasn't changed too much.
Living 5 minutes from the Canadian border I was lucky to hear a ton of Canadian artists on the radio in the 90's and have seen a majority of them live driving up to Vancouver BC. Lots of hidden gems up there. Edit: I suggest locked inside the trunk of a car by the hip
Same here in Buffalo, NY, the Canadian stations played different music. This area is early Hip country, we love em. This band is truly underappreciated
A fellow Canadian gave the definitive answer in his comment on an Ahead By A Century reaction: We gave the world Justin Bieber and kept the Hip for ourselves.
I almost left without saying thankyou for the wonderful response. That wouldn't have been Canadian. This music is art and they both appreciated like it is meant to be. Blessings to you all.
Literally holding back tears watching this. It’s hard to explain how much The Tragically Hip meant to most Canadians. I saw your video a few days ago on the last song of their show of their last concert. Gord Downie was amazing ... as a lyricist , as a performer and as a human being. Really hope you check out more “Hip”. You won’t be disappointed. “At Transformation” is a personal favourite , and shows Gord’s genius at its utmost.
You ever get a chance to come this way, check out Bobcaygeon Ontario. Beautiful cottage Country area from which this song is written. Ontario has some of the most beautiful areas in the world and dreaming about watching the constellations is a complete reality. There is nothing in the world like it. R.I.P. Gord Downie....... We will never forget you and your music !!
I just literally watched your video of their last live show, and then searched again for more tragically hip reactions on youtube and this came up and said uploaded 3 minutes ago! I hope you cover more songs. They have SO MANY hit amazing songs! "Poets" is on of my favorite songs, but you should just do all of their songs like "Courage" "Grace, Too" "Wheat Kings" My Music at Work" "At the Hundredth Meridian" just to name a few.!
You nailed it on the head. Im a Canadian and I can absolutely guarantee you I’ve sat at the lake on a warm August night and listened to this song and forgot about everything. This is that song.
Shed a tear 😢 yesterday watching this reaction, shed another today re-watching .. kinda a happy sad feeling , sad missing gordie but happy his spirit lives on with new people discovering his words
When Gord did his last concert in Kingston it was broadcast nationally for all to see...for free...Canada literally stopped for 2 hrs ...11 million people tuned in to watch...equivalent to 100 million Americans...and when he passed..a piece of all our hearts rested with him....The Hip were that important to us....
Gord was more of a poet than a song writer. His lyrics tend to be somewhat cryptic. To understand his lyrics you need to have a fundamental understanding of Canadian politics/ social issues / history. He spent the time before he passed bringing Canada’s national shame (indigenous residential schools) under a spotlight that still burns after his death. When Gord passed the entire country shed a tear.
Thank you for playing this. I am from and still live in Kingston Ontario Canada where this band is from and most of the members still live. Not only are they a great band, they are great people and do a lot for the community. To see one of their live shows, which I lost count on how many I have been too, was like being with family, I miss that feeling. RIP Gord you are missed by all of Canada.
Thanks for playing the Hip. Another story teller song is Wheat Kings. Other songs like New Orleans is Sinking and Twist my Arm are a little faster and heavier. Another side of the Hip. Cheers 🇨🇦
The night sky in Bobcaygeon is something to behold… It is endless in terms of depth and the stars. There is absolutely no comparison…. One of the most beautiful parts of the world ❤️🤗💕 try Locked in the trunk of a car…. Another “gooder”
Fun fact: The guy that starts the riot in the video is Hugh Dillon, lead singer of the Headstones, another Kingston band. He started his band after being inspired by the Hip. He fronted for the remaining Hip band members for a few songs during a charity concert in 2019. The Headstones are more hard-rock/punk and are probably best known for a cover song Tweeter and the Monkey Man (originally by the Travelling Willburies) but have a solid library of their own songs. Smile and Wave, Unsound, When Something Stands for Nothing...
I got to listen to this song in Bobcageon, it was pretty cool. Cottage country in Ontario Canada... Just imagine sitting around a campfire with this playing in the background. Total peace and serenity, the melody is amazing. RIP Gord, I looked up to the Gord above and said hey man, thanks!
This may be one of their best songs because they show their melodic side which really brings out Gord's voice....and anyone who lives in Ontario has made a drive like this in the country and seen the stars ....
I am Canadian. I live only a short distance from Bobcaygeon in another small town. Small-town Ontario is a good place to live. Good people, that are friendly, but mind their own business. Thank you for jumping into Canadian music. There's lots to choose from. If you want poetry, look into Leonard Cohen or Joni Mitchell. If you want storytelling: Gordon Lightfoot. If you want hard-rock: The Guess Who or BTO. If you want sappy love-songs: Anne Murray or Celine Dionne. If you want folk: Stan Rogers.
As a Canadian from the same province as "the Hip", I'm so happy their music can live on. I know I speak for a lot of Canadians when I say that when we hear their songs, we are transported back to our youth -- autumn at the lake, bonfires, hanging with friends. I can almost smell the air just by hearing their songs.
Much respect for listening to Canada's most beloved band. Today marks Gord Downie's (singer and songwriter) birthday; he was a genius and will be forever loved and missed. Many many Canadians added a ton of history to their lives, as well as seriously amazing music, due to this band's passion and talent
When I heard of gord passing it was like a peice of my childhood also died. Grew up to my dad and older brother listening to them. Definitely happy seeing people enjoying this band as much as Canadians do. But they will always be Canada's treasure
Brings back memories of taking my kids camping. Always played the hip and always played this song passing through Bobcagen. Algonquin Park 2am with a clear sky… younger list in them. “Could have been the Willie Nelson( Mary Jane), could have been the wine”. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks
You guys are awesome. I grew up listening to this band, they were always real and authentic and did their own thing. When Gord revealed he was sick the band did a farewell tour across the entire country as a final goodbye. Literally the only celebrity I’ve ever been upset about losing the man was a class act and did a lot for First Nations in Canada.
🇨🇦Bobcaygeon, Ontario🇨🇦 It’s a lovely place, stop by and say hi sometime! “Coulda been the Willie Nelson, coulda been the wine…”, one of the coolest lines ever written.
One of the only songs I've done at Karaoke...in a room full of musicians. I'm not a singer, but they wanted me to sing this, so I did. Was at a tribute concert to Gord backstage a few days after he died in Toronto, just an absolute love fest with family and friends. Felt like there were maybe more people backstage than in the audience... it was just an amazing send off to him.
You two are certainly diving into some great Canadian music, keep it up, it's a deep hole to fall into. If you want something fun, upbeat and a bit quirky you might want to check out the Bare Naked Ladies. They're probably best known for the theme to The Big Bang Theory as well as the song "if I Had a Million Dollars" but they have a lot of very fun songs. Some of my favourites would be "Brian Wilson", "One Week", and "Enid".
Thanks so much for reacting to this guys. The Hip are very, very important to us here and in general are considered music royalty. This was a hit from their 1998 album Phantom Power and one of their best. Bobcaygeon is a small town about 2 hours outside of Toronto, Gord Downie the singer and lyricist RIP is famous for writing about different places in Canada. This one is a story about a Cop in love, he chose Bobcaygeon simply because it rhymes with constellations. You've done yourself a big favour by discovering this band, it opens up a whole new world for many people, myself included. My next suggestion is to react to "Ahead by a century" and to get the REAL effect of the Hip you need to hear them live. I'd recommend Ahead by a century live at woodstock '99.
I encourage you to go down the “rabbit hole” every song is a hit… some hard hitting and some mellow.. Gord Downie (RIP) was an amazing entertainer and if you are taking requests I would like to hear “locked in the trunk of a car” BTW…BOBCAYGEON is a small town outside of Toronto.
I was in Bobcaygeon last summer (yes, you pronounced it correctly). Nice little town in cottage country. It was chosen mostly because the name fit in with the other lyrics of the song.
I grew up in Bobcaygeon in the 70s, 80s and 90s, and Gord's parents actually moved there in their retirement years. And the lyrics are true. As a kid I used to look up and watch the stars and they would appear one star at a time till all of a sudden the sky was full. Or it seemed that way anyways. Great place. Bobcaygeon or Caygeon for us locals is made up of 3 Islands. Beautiful place. Was an amazing olace to grow up.
You got it. BOB-CAY-JON is how you say it. It is a small town in Muskoka close to where I live. Muskoka is an area of small towns , lakes, forest, couple hours drive north of Toronto. the lyric by the way is "Could have been the Willie Nelson, could have been the wine" meaning the weed. It could have been the weed, it could have been the wine.
Could’ve been the Willie Nelson/ wine… 12:00 is him questioning if the emotional high of being with that person that had him feeling like the constellations were revealing themselves might be down to the weed/booze …
My absolute Favourite Band! Not given nearly enough recognition ... but that's how they liked it! They played in my home town a few times doing a water front festival and downtown shows! Love Them!! RIP Gord
Thank you for playing this special Canadian band. I guess you heard the story of Gord Downie, lead singer who passed away from brain cancer. Majority of 🇨🇦 watched their last televised concert before he passed. This song is so beautiful & touching. 😊❤
Nice choice you two. This band is amazing. Check out Fiddlers Green. A song Gord wrote for his nephew who passed very young due to a congenital health issues...Fiddler's Green is an after-life where there is perpetual mirth, a fiddle that never stops playing, and dancers who never tire
Thanks for this reaction! For more Tragically Hip I hope you react to their 'My Music at Work'. Sometimes my music at work is the only thing that that gets me through it. Music is the great escape!
Being a Canadian Gen Xr of course I love this band. They have so many great songs and are very uniquely Canadian. I think all of us can relate to really all of their songs in one way or another. They are an incredible voice and representation of what our lives have been like. Bobcaygeon is a small town in Canada a little over an hour away from the east end of Toronto. I have lived in and around Bobcaygeon most of my life and still do to this day. This area is a tourist area with lots of lakes and cottages. The summer here is always amazing and incredibly beautiful. This place brings peace to your soul.
As someone who spent many summers in and around bobcaygeon, and also in toronto, the two locations talked about in the sing this one always moves me. It shiws me walls i know, and reminds me smells i used to know. So nice to see folks enjoying it for the first time.
As a proud Canadian and a life-long Hip fan, I can't tell you how much joy it gave me to just watch the two of you get lost in this song. PLEASE continue diving into their catalogue, as well as Gord Downie's Secret Path project - amazing art used to tell a terrible history.
Merry Christmas. This song represents the way I feel when I go to my parents with everybody around. I don’t talk and just take in the surroundings and family and be in the moment.
Asia you are so right. I work a 10 hour shift 5 days a week. But my anticipation and inspirations is coming back home and love and share with my wife and best friend.I am not stupid, I know what is real and what counts. Great reactions. Real love in not on the clock. It is an ongoing thing that we must keep real and appreciate and move forward
I grew up on the opposite side of the lake from Bobcaygeon... this is one our theme songs. The other is Neil Young's "Helpless" that references "a small town in north Ontario". That town is Omemee, at the opposite end of Pigeon Lake from Bobcaygeon.

No man, he was OURS. We will share because that is what we do, but he is OURS
Love it when I hear an American talk about the Hip. Beloved here🇨🇦
You guys nailed the deep meanings of this song, thanks so much for giving it the love!
Thank you thank you,,,,most underrated band ever
Gord Downie cleverly uses the lyric 'Willie Nelson' as a code word for Ganja. "Could've been the Willie, or it could've been the wine!! It's even more brilliant when you realize that's exactly how a COP would've had to 'discreetly' write that same lyric. Do you see the hidden layers of lyrical-genius at play here?
As a long time hip listener, you have just simultaneously blown my mind and pissed me off for never catching that! Bravo.
That line gives me goose bumps and chills everytime.
I was 18 when the Hip dropped their first album. They performed the soundtrack of my life. I can’t listen to Gord sing without getting super emotional. Love is not a strong enough word for what the Hip means to me and my country.
“Looked up to the Gord above and said, “Hey Man, thanks” a true Canadian, who will NEVER be forgotten…we love and miss you Gord ❤❤❤❤ 🇨🇦🙏
Please do more Trag. They're a national treasure, they're the voice of Canada. No band has done what they've done, uniting a country like they did.
Lol Trag… are you in Alberta?
I'm always driven to tears when I hear him singing knowing that he'd died so young. I love the band 🇨🇦
Such a beautiful song! Gordy was honorary attendie at a First Nations Assembly and given the Lakota Spirit name of "He who walks with the Stars".
The Hip was a unbelievable Canadian band. .......lovin it from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦
They did a reaction to the last Hip song, you can search for Tragically Hip on their channel and you'll find it
Thanks you so much for commenting and sharing your account of The Tragically Hip when they broadcasted their final show.
I live in Canada. Bobcaygeon is the name of a town I live near. ♥️ that you guys are listening to the Tragically Hip.
I live a hour away from bobcagen and it's absolutely beautiful
Just like the tragically hips music
A national treasure here in Canada 🇨🇦
RIP Gord you are for sure missed. Glad to see so many of the concerts.
We call this cottage rock around here. Thank you for listening to our pride and joy as Canadians.
@@chrisw3421 Grand Island, NY here. No doubt its hip country
@@Mike-cp1ft absolutely!
It's wild to me The Hip never made it internationally. My fav band of all time and 99% of the world doesn't know them. RIP Gordo.
A fellow Canadian gave the definitive answer in his comment on an Ahead By A Century reaction: We gave the world Justin Bieber and kept the Hip for ourselves.
One could say its “ tragic “?
I live pretty close to Bobcaygeon. Love randomly looking up reactions to The Hip and this song in general.
I still get choked up when I hear the hip. RIP Gord. Gone way too soon.......
The greatest band from Canada { and I'm a huge Rush fan } also the greatest band you've never heard of. RIP Gord.
"Courage" and "Nautical Disaster" or great jams by this legendary Canadian group.
Even the Prime Minister had to hold back tears as talked about the Gord and the Hip.
Our Shakespeare. ✌♥️🇨🇦
He definitely wrote for a Canadian audience.
@@robertbreedon9137 tried and failed. He cried during his announcement to the nation of Gord's death.
And he rocked that 'Canadian Tuxedo' like no other man!
The guys still come into our store in Kingston, as normal as you can be considering they musically represent 🇨🇦
RIP Gord
“Boba-cay-gen”, that makes me wanna puke
Bobcaygeon is about a 2 hour drive north east of Toronto and is on one of many lakes in the area. Very beautiful.
Canadian boy here. Thank you for this one. The Tragically Hip is one of our many national treasures. You guys are great
I live just down the road from Bobcaygeon. Seen the hip multiple times. Great band. Great songs. Great memories. Thanks Gord 🇨🇦
His performance was like watching art, everything about him was creative, and passionate.
Your comments are about to explode because you ventured in to the Hip.
Nailed it. Sounds like "Bob - Kay - Jun"
Hi Wilf! Greetings from Buckhorn!
Nice comment
The band u can't forget.
Man. Why can't i listen to them without tearing up ? Gets you in the feels for so many reasons. Legends.
Much love from Bobcaygeon y'all! My hometown.
RIP Mr Gord Downie . Another great Canadian music legend.
Family had a cottage in Bobcaygeon growing up. This track by one of Canada's best bands brings back a flood of memories. Thnx.
Great reaction. You get them. A lot of reactors don’t. I’d encourage you to do more reactions to this group.
For me, their best song. Outstanding.
RIP GORD
🇨🇦Bobcaygeon, Ontario🇨🇦 It’s a lovely place, stop by and say hi sometime! “Coulda been the Willie Nelson, coulda been the wine…”, one of the coolest lines ever written.
My husband and I took our first dance to this song. ❤️ The Hip ❤ RIP Gord
Their best is "The Old Apartment"....!!!
I should mention that they’re in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
Thank you Thank you Thank you. More HIP Please, from a Canadian fan. They are Canada's best export, after Rush of course.
I encourage you to go down the “rabbit hole” every song is a hit… some hard hitting and some mellow.. Gord Downie (RIP) was an amazing entertainer and if you are taking requests I would like to hear “locked in the trunk of a car”
BTW…BOBCAYGEON is a small town outside of Toronto.
Good old Canadian band. FANTASTIC!
I was in Bobcaygeon last summer (yes, you pronounced it correctly). Nice little town in cottage country. It was chosen mostly because the name fit in with the other lyrics of the song.
True! Gord said "Bobcaygeon was the only town I could find that rhymed with constellation"
Uh, Bobcaygeon is in the Kawarthas, not Muskoka :-)
Thank you for recognizing the ultimate Canadian band, the Tragically Hip. Every Canadian holds a special place in their heart for the Hip.
As someone who spent many summers in and around bobcaygeon, and also in toronto, the two locations talked about in the sing this one always moves me. It shiws me walls i know, and reminds me smells i used to know. So nice to see folks enjoying it for the first time.
Canada's treasured band The Tragically Hip 🇨🇦 Thank-you ❤✌🇨🇦 please try to do more .
There are so many songs they made that bring it all out. He wrote so many great stories. Miss him a lot….
Classic Canadian music 🎶...thanks
Easily my favorite reaction from you both, and you have had some awesome reactions!!
I'm soo happy right now!! Thanks so much!!!!!
You’re welcome!!! We appreciate you for watching. Much love from Texas. ❤️
@@AsiaandBJ watching from Nova Scotia, Canada❤
Asia you are so right. I work a 10 hour shift 5 days a week. But my anticipation and inspirations is coming back home and love and share with my wife and best friend.I am not stupid, I know what is real and what counts. Great reactions. Real love in not on the clock. It is an ongoing thing that we must keep real and appreciate and move forward
As a Canadian I had to stop at 1:00 in. I am getting chills for you both to hear this for the first time.
The outro scene, the guys without Gord was too much. RIP Mr. Downie
I grew up on the opposite side of the lake from Bobcaygeon... this is one our theme songs. The other is Neil Young's "Helpless" that references "a small town in north Ontario". That town is Omemee, at the opposite end of Pigeon Lake from Bobcaygeon.
Seen them 5 times....once in bobcaygeon ......Canadian legends
