Great video! I’ve heard the overall argument before, but not in a way that was concise enough for me to really understand the importance. But I went and played around with what you said, and although it felt a little odd at first because I was so used to cupping my wrist, it definitely definitely may be more consistent and felt like the swing was much simpler because I took out a moving part. Thanks and keep up the great video work
Great advice but not for everyone I would play around with it if anyone reading this. cuz I push down with the left and hinge my right and it works for me. 👌 only on irons tho doesn’t work on driver.
I stopped consciously doing anything with my wrists in my back swing and my ball striking has improved. I just let my hands set themselves naturally in my backswing. Took alot of practice because it was so unnatural. Now my ball striking has never been better.
All these RUclips coaches “can’t hinge here, do hinge here, can’t cup wrist, can’t bow wrist, can’t lean this way, can’t point your toe that way” lol Then you see accomplished coaches like Butch harmon hank Haney Sean foley Pete Cowen and every other coach out on tour they could give a shit less about all these things. They talk about the stuff that matters. A foot before impact and a foot after impact. Damn near everyone who played the game before 2000 was cupping their wrist just fine in the golf swing. They were still shooting 25 under every week just like today.
Come spend a day on the lesson tee with me and you can see how I get results 👍🏼 matter of fact, let’s put your swing into a video analysis here on RUclips? Want to send it to me?
@@RichardRiceGolf sure. It’s a work in progress just like everyone else’s. I can find flaws in every swing even tiger in 2002. The point is to produce results. Would you analyze Jim furyks swing and change it? What about analyze Steve strickers putting stroke with the heel an inch off the ground? The point is it doesn’t matter about all the extras. Square to square a foot before and after impact is all that counts.
@@RichardRiceGolf and the 20 other people they teach a week. Look I’m not saying it holds zero value. I’m just telling you in the levels of the coaching game as you get to upper tier coaches you just don’t hear nearly as much talk about these things. They could care less. If someone is shooting 83 they have much bigger problems than a cupped wrist at the top of their swing. The body itself isn’t moving well. The engine of the golf swing isn’t correct. Fix the major issues. You wouldn’t put new tires on car without a transmission.
Can you clarify how we “hinge radially to maximum range of motion but don’t hinge past this” then you demonstrate maximum radial hinge then hinge past it. Is it that we should be keeping some flexion?
@@RichardRiceGolf there’s different release styles. I went and worked with Bradley Hughes, I’m more so referring to his mechanics. So I guess I’m really saying range in the forearms more than a wide open face. Either way this video is great advice, not trying to say you’re wrong and I’m right.
@@RichardRiceGolf I mean, that’s one guy. I’m sure there’s someone out there on this planet that can jump without using their toes and dunk a basketball but doesn’t mean it’s more efficient lol. I’m not saying or claiming that I know the answers… I was simply thinking out loud
Or, here’s a thought. Don’t use a neutral grip like a clown. Use a natural grip so your wrist can hinge to its max point even more than you just showed in the video, hence gaining more speed than that weak sauce hinge you just showed us.
Inconsistency tho. When they are timing it, it’s over. Shane Lowery might have the best hands in golf. But it seems like both those guys lack consistency and maybe because of cup.
You must live in Bizarro World to have made this statement - DJ literally has the most bowed wrist in the golfing world. Now, if you said boom-boom Couples, then you would get partial marks - but only if you also mentioned his 4-knuckle grip which still gave him a square/partial_shut face at the Top
This is solid advice. Whenever i start hitting push fades I always shorten my backswing and try to control that radial cupping. Works like a charm
You are a genius!! Great wisdom and explanation!!! My over-hinging has been a nightmare for me!

Thanks Richard I hope you are keeping well sir
So bend my wrist radially.. but if I bend my wrist radially it will open the club face.. so are you saying to only kinda bend the wrists radially?
Don’t listen to this guy. It’s pure nonsense
You also need to extend your trail wrist / flex your lead wrist as well.
Great advice but not for everyone I would play around with it if anyone reading this. cuz I push down with the left and hinge my right and it works for me. 👌 only on irons tho doesn’t work on driver.
I needed to see this
dont get the last part, "hinge radially to your maximal range of motion and not past that" how can I hinge past my maximal point
Because hinging past that point is simply just adding extension to the lead wrist which opens the face 👍🏼
@@RichardRiceGolf o ok, so you should hinge radially to your maximal range of motion without extending the wrist
@@RichardRiceGolfComplete opposite. You need to extend your trail wrist. You can’t swing on plane without doing so. What ridiculous advice.

Well done!!
So hinge radially but dont hinge radially😂😂😂
This is gonna be a game changer for me.
🤩🤩
Thanks

Hinging past your maximum radial range of motion means you’re only adding extension(cup) to the lead wrist, which opens the face
Dude my left wrist been killing me for a week!
🫣
Yup
Truth be told you can have it as open as you want if you really know how to release it. But for the majority of ppl I agree.
More open = more timing. You can still release the club properly with a square face 🤷🏻♂️

@Richard Rice Golf not so much in the long game. But for sure in short game. He almost rolls his right arm on 20-40 yd pitches.
