    Rib flare is not a death sentence but it is something we want to address if we are having issues such as pain or decreased performance.
    The goal should be a dynamic ribcage meaning the ribcage can change shapes depending on the task we are asked to complete. We need to be able to compress and expand different parts of the ribcage.
    When we have a rib flare, air will take the path of least resistance. This is why we preach the basics so much.
    Simply learning to inhale and exhale fully is a game-changer. Start with the simple tips described in the video.

    I was born with a lot of issues and a facial deformity. One thing I noticed as a kid was that my ribs didn’t look right and one side was up and outward compared to the other. When I brought it up to my parents and my doctors they just said “hmm that’s strange” and moved on to the 100 other things we were worried about lol. I’m 27 now and just now discovered what it’s called, thank you.

    This happens when your stomach and organs around there are expanded. Think about food intake that your stomach has trouble with processing and then wants to expand for more ease, but also emotional processing issues. Why you think breathing is the core of health. You're probably not breathing right due to stress or stored emotions that needs to be released. Do breathing exercises on a daily basis, its so important l. Also during workouts, breathe right, follow the instructions! You'll realise how often you actually hold ur breath due to maybe being nervous, under pressure etc. I really learned this throughout my life and experiences with improving my health from different angles. Good luck!

    As someone who was a competitive swimmer back in my teens, our breathing was all chest, and after five years of that cycle of breathing, it was pretty much 'locked in' to my muscle memory. When I attended university I signed up to do yoga, and it was there I was told my breathing was incorrect, and I had to breathe through diaphragm and belly, not through my chest. Moving forward, I took up martial arts, and again, the whole breathing aspect took on yet another level, with a lot of forced exhalation and tensing, coupled with explosive movements. So now, as I approach my 60th year on this earth I do notice slight flaring either side of solar plexus extending laterally. Nothing massive, but noticeable from my own perspective.
    Ultimately, which way IS the correct way to breathe? If you're a yoga person, it's one way, if you're a martial artist, it's another, if you're a swimmer, yet another, and what if you're a singer, even?
    Anyway, thought I'd add my own two pennies to this - thank you for the videos, much appreciated. Good luck going forward. Subbed, liked and dinged that bell.

    • @IanMarkow
      @IanMarkow  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing your experiences. Honestly doesn’t have to be that complicated.
      Simply put you inhale expanding the entire rib cage and belly 360 degrees and exhale emptying everywhere as well.
      The lungs are not in the belly so belly breathing should be pretty easy to understand that it is not optimal.
      The back ribs need to expand as well especially for people who hold tension in the lower back and are very extended (rib flare often also)
      Basically the belly, back, sides and chest should expand on inhales and compress on exhales.
      You should definitely check out our program. It’s only 3 x 15 minutes a week and can be done from home. It will break down all the nuance and show you how you actually progress everything

      Intro To Core: Every morning is ideal

      Side planks on the left side: Add three to four sets to workouts. Maybe an extra set or two every day with your left hand down. Keep the entire left hand down pushing through the index and thumb.
      ruclips.net/video/kDFqapgIHpU/видео.html
      Sidelying Knee to knee lifts: Add 2-3 times a week for 3/4 sets of 10 reps. Only do the left side down so it's left groin and right glute.

    • @IanMarkow
      @IanMarkow  Год назад +2

      Here is the video with the solutions.
      ruclips.net/video/ViUbwQcObXo/видео.html
      The ribcage should move on the inhale and exhale. During the inhale you would ideally get 360 degrees of expansion in the belly, side, chest, and back. A poor inhale will looks like a rib flare with arching your back.
      To improve it use the solutions video but fully exhaling and pausing then slowly inhaling while maintaining some obliques so they don’t just flare open. You are essentially breathing behind your ab walls instead of completely losing them

    Hi there recently i have developed pulsatile tinnitus and have been deeply worried very anxious. When i lie down i can feel as if my ribs are sticking out like as if my sternum is being pulled out its so weird my abdominals are all tight etc constricting. Could it be the severe anxiety and stress that has done this to me? yes and its rib flare ive never had it in my life its as if the stress etc anxiety has messed up my insides and altered them thats what it feels like. I would like to know your thought if stress and anxiety can cause this problem i guess ive been so worried that ive damaged my own self it feels horrible when i breathe its like as if its going deeper in if that make sense and my ribs are over flaring making it feel weird as hell. Its like when i breathe its sucking i n further than it should where my sternum is etc it feels weird in my midsection. I hope im alright id like to hear from you thankyou and great channel.

      Hey Ian, thanks for watching. Our nervous system is Absolutley directly linked to our breathing. I don’t think it matters which is the chicken and egg for you as much as you just take a holistic approach towards improving.
      I would 100% find someone like a therapist to talk to and figure out strategies to manage your anxiety.
      Minimizing stress is huge as well so anything you can do to take some stress away from your life is a great idea.
      Working on your breathing is huge. The best course of action for you is to find a physical therapist to work with one on one. Consider using the postural restoration institute website where you can find a provider.
      This video is a great start even if you just do the first two breathing exercises every morning.
      ruclips.net/video/ViUbwQcObXo/видео.html
      It sounds like you are using a rectus abdominus strategy which is just a fancy way of saying you are crunching hard on your exhales. In the routine we do an open the airway strategy that will probably work wonders for you. When you exhale relax your six pack and don’t clench your butt at all.
      Hope this helps

      Hey Kaye, you do not have anything to panic about and certainly not lose sleep over. Obviously you need to see a doctor if you are feeling lump or suspect you have cancer. If you would like to find someone in person use the find a provider linked below.

      @@toekneelorenzo2942 You are probably cruncing with six pack versus using obliques. If it is painful see a physical therapist. If not focus on staying long as if you had a unicorn horn on top of your head and think about keeping the horn as far away from your butt as you can. It takes time which is why we suggest doing this every morning.

    • @IanMarkow
      @IanMarkow  Год назад

      Would need to assess you to be sure as this isn’t much information but in general when we have a rib flare the ribs above it get less expansion often times leading to them being compressed down and in. Steps would be very similar as described in the video and we are making a part 2 soon

      You need to learn how to relax your six pack and use your obliques while staying long in the spine. Check out this blog where I explain this with a model. Then start working on the basics routine below. Progress by adding reaching, side planks and inverted breathing. Your six pack should be relaxed throughout the drills below. Stay long

      In 20 seconds, no. For someone in their twenties, Yes. You can make big changes at any age and influence the structure with long-term consistency. Do the morning breathing every morning you can for a month and you will notice big changes.
