    Your videos have helped my BJJ progression substantially and the conceptual stuff you bring into it is next level. Thanks!

    I love the basics and fundamentals like this. That collar drag should be/is a staple of grips/takedowns.

    Great video! Please do some of your favourites x/slx entries from other guards. And also general 50/50 strategy like maintaining grips, setting up sweeps, back tackes and passes would be very helpfull. Thanks for all knowledge that you are dropping!

    So my training partners often use toreando and/or attempt X pass against me to move to knee on belly or most often side control. The collar drag looks AMAZING to help neutralize those attacks. Thank you for the detail.

    Awesome video as usual. But how do you prevent getting flying triangle or armbar when you have your arm fully extended trying to play this guard?

      @@JonThomasBJJ Which Knee?

  • @bunnyazorth945
    @bunnyazorth945 5 лет назад +2

    Hi Jon, I have a question. When using the De la Riva, am I supposed to be directly in front of my opponent/partner? I can't seem to make the de la riva hook at all. My knee cannot bend and reach all the way to the thigh socket. I mean I'm short (5ft4), but I don't think that's the problem.

    • @2013_Shox
      @2013_Shox 5 лет назад +2

      Bunny Azorth Don't take my advice to heart as I'm not a coach but you should be at a slight angle, for example if your goal is to take the back from de la riva you need to be at an angle for it to work.

    • @bunnyazorth945
      @bunnyazorth945 5 лет назад +2

      @@2013_Shox Thank you, I appreciate your help all the same.

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  5 лет назад +2

      Bunny Azorth Yeah you do want to be at a slight angle, but often I see people trying to put it in when their opponents leg is straight in those situations you often can’t put the hook in so it’s hard to say without seeing but you may be trying to put it in, in a situation that’s you can’t do it. If that makes sense. DLR hook is strongest when your opponent has bent legs with elbow and knee connected.

    Hey Jon - any tips on how to safely pull to this guard from the feet/from the start of the match, or is that not advisable?

    • @vodbinder6219
      @vodbinder6219 2 года назад

      When you realize they are a D1 wrestler....that's probably the safest time to pull this guard.....
