- Ahoy shipmates, it’s been a while. But I didn’t want to share this video until I had a decent amount of time testing the hydrogen peroxide dosing for the treatment of parasites. Yes unfortunately my tank has ich again. The Achilles tang is the only fish to have it and it’s been in the display now for seven weeks. This episode goes over how I have been managing this disease this time round and everything else that has been going on with JDReef.
Information I have been following for treating ich with hydrogen peroxide is from HumbleFish. I will put a link to the thread here for those who maybe interested in trying this method also.

Thanks Gavin, it was certainly nerve racking for the first week after he got covered in ich. But now he full of beans and doing great. Still has ich but it ain’t bothering him and hopefully in the next few weeks he will kick it and be clear 🤞 He’s my dream fish and very special like you say.

Thanks Aaron, yup lots to do mate. I’ll be trying to get more videos out on a regular basis. Just so busy getting time to make them is a struggle at times. I’ll try do better though and thank you for the support.

Wow you got so lucky getting all those fish tanks free and some absolute bargains.
Achilles looks awesome and great to see the method working. Look forward to next episode and don’t leave it so long next time. I know you got frustrated for a bit with the lack of views on your videos. But honestly matey it doesn’t matter. The ones who do watch really, like myself really love them.

Yup very happy with what I got. Although a little sad to lose my lfs at the same time. So it’s a bitter sweet kind of thing. However it’s nice to have souvenirs of the place I’ve loved since I was a kid.
Lmao about your beard comment 😂 Basically a month ago I shaved on Sunday and winter maintenance standby started for me on that Monday. So I said I wasn’t going to shave until it was over. Which isn’t for 6 month yet. Only been one month so far lol. Roll on April but I’ll be honest with you. I can’t see me managing to keep it that long. Especially coz the wife hates it 🤣

Excellent mate, really happy to hear that with your tank. Soon as I finish with the hydrogen peroxide dosing. I will certainly take you up on that offer mate and happily pay for frags. This tank needs to be packed with coral 😁

Thanks Mo, yeah he looked rough for at least a week. But he’s been a super good eater and eats everything I put in the tank. Even got him hand feeding like staplegun ( copperband ) which is pretty cool. He still showing some spots but I feel once I get new uv bulbs and continue with the h2o2 dosing. We should eventually get to the point where he’s completely clear like the rest of the fish.
Gutted the blue spot jumped out. It’s a funny fish though. Coz every night at lights out you would see him swimming about the surface popping his head out the water. Like he was looking for a gap. Just that night after adding the sand I left the feeder cap of screen slightly off and he managed to jump out. Totally sucks mate. I hate losing fish especially to them getting out the tank.

This was a big update. You had a lot going on. Sorry about the jawfish. That one hurt. I have taken the same approach with ich. Did the same thing with uv and peroxide from that same forum lol. You made out from the store closing but that sucks to lose a lfs that is close. I would stick with the miracle mud in the refugium and refresh it. I have a yellow tank that had HLLE forb2 years. Once I started my new tank I put miracle mud in the fuge and it has helped. It took 7 months but it is 90% gone. BTW the port hole on the refugium really sets you system apart from anything else on RUclips. That was an awesome idea and we'll executed. You are gonna nice the Flipper edge max. Hi Arrick, yeah mate losing the jawfish really sucked. I think it was inevitable he was going to get out one day. Especially since the damn water level on the tank is so close to the top of the tank. Maybe if I had put glass lids on it might not have happened. But hindsight is a great thing as they say.
Yes mate, very sad to have lost my lfs. Simple things like getting frozen food. Will now be a pita. I’ll need to do like a 100 mile round trip to get to my other lfs and with the cost of fuel these days, Isn’t handy at all. But it’s just something I’ll have to get used to. Plus it’s an awesome shop and worth the drive.
Yeah I might change the refugium slightly. But I’ll give adding fresh mud another chance before scrapping it.
Thanks portal hole is great and I like the way it kind of magnifies what’s in the refugium. Although that doesn’t really show on camera.
That’s good to know about the Flipper Max Edge mate. It’s quite expensive but I don’t mind paying for something if it’s good and works well. It will certainly get tested once it arrives with the state my glass is in lol

I honestly think we're getting super strains of parasites these days. Seven years ago, I never quarantined at all and never had disease issues. I came back to the hobby this year with a brand new tank and immediately have some sort of parasite or bacteria in my tank that won't die to any medication and will kill my fish within days, even though they were all quarantined.
Even my nano tank that I keep in another room and completely separate from the main display somehow has been infected by the same parasite, and those fish are from another source and don't share any equipment or food with the main display.
I also started the same dosing regimen and haven't had another death so far. Hopefully it goes well.
Hi Baka, sorry to hear this fella. Nothing worse than losing fish despite our best efforts. Even though I personally quarantined my fish and used first defence. I still some how ended up with ich. I know I got it into my system through water transfer from a clean up crew member I added. So now believe quarantine is as important for them as it is the fish. Just takes a single drop of water to wreck havoc in our reefs.
The dosing regimen I did and the one you’ve started. I can honestly say saved my Achilles tang and my tank. I haven’t seen a single sign of any disease since I completed it. All fish are doing great. Best of luck I hope everything goes well for you.

Hi FV, thanks yeah that’s one of the things I checked. However I know he got it from quarantine. Water quality wasn’t the best unfortunately due to the emergency ich treatment. However since then it’s never got worse and no other tangs have it. Scarface is doing great though. Just not as handsome as he once was in his younger days. But I can relate to that. Life gives us all scars at some point lol.

@@JDReef my purple got it bad in QT 2 yrs ago,, really really bad. 2 years later I have to look hard for the scars,, they keep shrinking and disappearing. My poor guy had deep scaring. It’ll go away!

Never rains but it pours mate,think we've always got ick in our system's, had an outbreak on my sailfin start of the year,added a uv and boost their feed with selcon,works a treat pal,soak pellets and nori in it
So true mate. Think coz I live in Scotland I get more rainy days than most lol. Looking forward to getting new uv bulbs which I think will definitely help. I add vitamins and boosters to food. Although I haven’t used selcon for a good while. I’ll get some of that once I finish my current booster 👍

Glad things are looking better for you my friend. For that peroxide, isn't it better kept in a dark non transparent container due to losing its potency when out in bright light?
Thanks, yes that’s correct however the bottle I am using is fine because it is kept in darkness in the cabinet. Plus it gets used up every three days and then refilled with fresh.

Looks more like velvet to me mate
No it was definitely ich. If it was velvet all the fish would of been dead. Velvet is far more deadly than ich. By the time you spot velvet it’s typically to late. Since this episode I haven’t lost a fish. That definitely wouldn’t be the case for velvet.

Hi MB, yes I haven’t seen any signs of it after the treatment. That’s not to say I won’t in the future though. But so far everything is doing good.
