Be careful with the winch, a friend of mine lost his Dad when pulling a car on the trailer and the thing broke and hit his Dad in the head.. Terrible accident, but I would recommend a helmet . Why don't you see if the company that makes the wood cutter will pay you for affiliate marketing. You could put a link on the video and get paid every time someone one buys one.. Just a thought. God Bless. 😆👍

...I use a Timberjack myself which is a cant hook with a leg. You can lift massive logs with it, and could roll them over the top onto the mill. They are used fro lifting logs for sawing as well to keep your chain out of the dirt. They are a 'must have ' tool for a lumberman.

    • @scottstewart3884
      @scottstewart3884 4 года назад +3

I was thinking this.... Use the first few logs to build a frame of some sort so you can move the logs easier.
BUT until then, if you have a convenient tree close on the backside of the mill, attach the come along to it, put the tow rope/cable over the mill, and pull the log onto the mill that way. (Or if no tree Make a post w/mill and dig hole for post ..)
Keep up the good work though, No matter how you get it done, just do it as safe as you can!

God bless you, I wish I was there to give you a hand. I’m very fortunate to have 50 years of experience in construction. I’m used to moving “mountains” by myself. You can move lots of weight with simple levers, rollers and temporary ramps. The trick is to work smart not hard. Three cut saplings laid down perpendicular onto the frame as a ramp and you could have dragged the log up into place with your come along. A cant hook is essential for handling logs. I admire your work ethic.

Nice work. Just like seeing myself when doing log building, struggling with the logs. One cheap and easy way to get the log on to the mill, is when you already have the log next to the mill, roll it away from the saw about a meter (or less). Then you place a stone or a wood stumb (approximately as high as the mill bed or a little lower) between the log and the mill, approximately at the middle of the log. From the light end of the log you lift the middle of the log onto the stone/stumb. Now you can push the light end down and drive the heavy end onto the mill. Then you lift the rest of the log onto the mill. Works amazingly smooth, and literally saves you tons of work lifting those logs. Greetings from Norway.

You might want to consider getting a log Arch, probably a buck Arch because you can get all the accessories to hook into your trailer hitch and move logs easily. But that's a beautiful piece of machinery for what it does. I am so jealous. Feel trapped in my apartment building on the North Shore in Massachusetts I've been looking for land but it's too expensive in my entire region.

just a heads up, the bark will pick up rocks when you drag it, those rocks with destroy your bandsaw blade so watch out for that and knock off and dirt/mud that is stuck to the log. 2nd, if you lay the tow strap over the track, then toll the log on top of tow strap, then pull ends of tow strap over the top of the log then use the come-a-long, this will roll the log up onto the tracks.

Take that boards you cut and put it under the legs so they don't get buried into the ground and throwing it out of level when you load a huge log. Throw 2 screws in each hole every couple of legs.
They have cracks similar to the come along you can add to the saw mill too to help roll it up, if they have it for yours. Or hook the come along on the other side with a ramp.

I’ve seen many comments about using an A-frame or a wench to pull the log on, however, I think a better option would be to dig a trench for the machine to sit in, below ground level. That way you can just roll the log onto the track.
I assume you will cover the machine anyway, to keep it from rusting, so the trench shouldn’t ever fill with rainwater.

Does the mill come with additional blades? I would imagine the blades go kinda fast.
Glad you got it together. Nice job!

Hey there! Suggestion for moving big logs by yourself, put some smaller trees or small long logs down in front of the one you want to move. Then you can roll it easier. If you ever watched Moses or any old movies about Egypt, that's how they moved the really big stuff. Just a thought. Keep on keep an on!

Glad you're loving your sawmill. Good idea to check it out ASAP, glad you made sure it was OK. So kewl to have a house with lumber milled from on site, I think things like that make a house more of a home and really tie it to the land.

I used to work for a guy who had a sawmill and we built a drying kiln with just plywood some concrete blocks underneath it and the roof has basically on a 45 facing the Sun and it was covered with special plastic sheeting and it dried the wood out very well. You just have to make holes for airflow to come through it in the plywood. You need to definitely get some logging tools so you can move the logs a lot easier. Start making some pretty wood for your house

Wow Jason, i couldn't believe you were able to maneuver that log onto the sawmill all by yourself!! I thought you would give yourself a hernia trying to move it all by yourself! I apologize for doubting your ability for doing the lumber all by yourself! Jason you have proved to yourself once again that you can accomplish anything you set your mind too!! The lumber you produce yourself will definitely be a game changer in the amount of money you will be able to save yourself building your new house!! May God keep blessing you on your dream!! 😃👍🙏🐴

    • @brianleonard6025

Jason you could also use a floorjack for jacking up a vehicle with raising the log high enough to push over onto the sawmill rail. Just a thought. Or build a tripod and set over the sawmill and use a comealong to lift your log onto the sawmill. Just a thought. 😃👍

My husband and I have the same mill . We use a couple of levers. Pieces of boards perpendicular to the mill. Roll the log onto them then pick the ends up . Easy peasy. Also a cant hook helps.
