    Sweet sunglasses Bob! I built my black box cage based on your videos and your sweet discount code as well. I have been experimenting and I planted a pothos in my coco chips in the corner and it has been thriving pretty good. I also found that my enclosure isn't perfectly level so I pour water into the side that is slightly higher and less the water work it's way down and it seems to do a good job of keeping the humidity right where I want it. I used your trick for making walls on bioactive to fill in the top of one of those really large corner stepped pyramid hides and topped the foam with moss and it's created a really cozy hide that my snake seems to love the best.

    Hey Bob, I could use your advice. I have a Kages 4x2x2 enclosure that I’m setting up. I opted for two 9” cutouts on the right and left side. On the warm side (right) I plan on using a DHP on a thermostat and on the cool side (left) I plan on using a Halogen to keep that temp at 75-80. Is that setup for success? In my current enclosure Im having a hard time getting my temps right so that’s my logic for going with this route in my new 4x2x2 enclosure. Thank you for your time.

    • @GreenRoomPythons
      @GreenRoomPythons  7 месяцев назад

      Hi Rikki, I wouldn't use a light as a heat source because you'll need to turn it off at night and and your temperature could drop lower than you want it to. I would just use a CHE on the cool side if you need something to bring the temps up to the 78 to 80° range.

    Great video! So I was watching videos of people working with terrifying venomous snakes when your channel showed up in my feed. I tried to get a snake about 12 years ago..a cute little rosy boa. However, he was a bitey little asshole, so I ended up giving him away. After watching your videos, I now realize all the mistakes I made, and that maybe he wasn’t an asshole after all. Anyway, I’m thinking of trying again with a ball python and I have a question. I want to start with a baby snake. Is it best to go ahead and get a 4 x2x2 enclosure, even when starting with a smaller snake? Or should I start with a smaller enclosure like you had in this video and upgrade to a larger one later? Thanks and keep up the great work.

    Great video Bob! Your nephew is super cool! But I am confused about the heating setup. I am getting a 4x2x2 PVC enclosure for my nearly grown ball Python and I ordered a complete kit that has all the bells and whistles. I’m wondering where to place these lights and deep heat emitter. Why did you glue the probe on the hot side? It surely wouldn’t be an accurate measurement of the average temp in the enclosure, would it? I would think to put it on the cool side and one of those little hygrometer/thermometer things on the hot side. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    • @GreenRoomPythons
      @GreenRoomPythons  Год назад +1

      You definitely want the probe on the hot side because that's what you're trying to measure. You're going to use the heat gun to measure the temperature where the snake is at and then you will set your thermostat to whatever it needs to be to get your temperature correct where the snake sits. That might mean that your probe has to read a much hotter temperature or a much cooler temperature depending on the setup but your temperature gun is what tells you the temperature that the snake is going to feel. My ball python care guide explains this as well.

    • @insaneprepper2832
      @insaneprepper2832 Год назад +1

      Much obliged to you, Bob! I’m sure it will take some tweaking in order to dial in the correct temperature and humidity, and ensuring there is a temperature gradient. I ordered an expensive enclosure kit with all the bells and whistles, including a deep heat emitter and a Pro T5 Shadedweller, an Arcadia 50W deep heat emitter, and a 75W halogen lamp. It’s the same thing Emily uses and endorses from Snake Discovery. I just began using Forest Floor as the substrate in my current tub, and it keeps humidity very well. Should I put all or some of those lamps on one side only? Makes sense, as I need the temp gradient. Thanks again for your help and timely reply. This is my first ball python. Got him from the exotic pet store as a rescue. He’s a 4-foot male named Oreo and I just wanna do right by him. 30 years ago I had a boa constrictor and none of this stuff was available for proper husbandry. Once again, thanks and keep up the fantastic work! Say hi to Kent for me! 😂

    Hi Bob! Thanks for all you do for the reptile world and all the knowledge you’ve bestowed.
    Im a new ball python owner and am perplexed at the radiant heat panel.
    I bought my 4ft normal a 4”2 Black Box enclosure (Ty for the code). I bought a 225W radiant heat panel to go with it and everything is installed and running.
    Under her hot hide now is only about 4 degrees different from her cold side.
    It’s about 82 in the hot hide and 78 in the cold. I am shooting the laser into the hides. On top of the hot with substrate is about 90. Ever since I moved her from her bin about 10 days ago she has been heavily favoring her cold side and I’m worried there’s not enough of a difference, but I don’t know how to change the cold lower and the hot hotter utilizing the rhp.
    What do you temp your sides at? Should I be worried/ especially for digestion? She hasn’t had a meal in her new enclosure (set for Monday)
    Help?

    • @GreenRoomPythons
      @GreenRoomPythons  8 месяцев назад

      Hopefully your heat panel is connected to a thermostat. You can change the temperature of the heat panel using that thermostat. The inside of your hide might be slightly different than the outside but as long as you are around 90 on the warm side and 80 on the cool side your snake will be just fine. Many snakes favor the cool side of their cage. They don't need warmth all the time but if they need it while digesting, they know how to find it.

      @GreenRoomPythons  5 месяцев назад

      1. Potentially, depending on the snake. 2. Many different reasons to use lights but I don't recommend using them as a heat source. 3. It depends on the type of cage but if it's pvc, overhead heat is better

    • @GreenRoomPythons

    I’m upgrading my hatchling bp to a 40 gallon when everything arrives next week. He’s longer in length, being in a 10 gallon right now. Would it be ok to have the tank by a wall near a window? Especially since winter is coming? Also, would you recommend a Che or Dhp? I just want a heating source that would stay on 24/7 without having light on all the time with winter coming up, I live in New England, and it get cold..

      Either one of those would work fine. I think a deep heat projector is better though. Wherever you put the enclosure, just make sure that there are no hot spots or cold spots. Near a window might be a little chilly in the winter time.

      @@user-oz3bu3qz5t what I mean is that the window itself isn't creating too much heat or too cold of an area where you're enclosure is. Within the enclosure itself you need a warm side and a cool side but sometimes a window will mess that up

      @@GreenRoomPythons oh ok, this makes sense. I figured my home heat radiator is right under the window too so thought it would be fine when it’s on. The dhp we install inside the cage right? Or I could leave it outside on top of a mesh too? I just got a CHE yesterday, and it seems fine, but takes out humidity fairly quickly

    Hey Bob, quick question for you. I ordered the same thermostat to use with my heat lamp(ceramic heat emitter) but it actually has a dimming switch on the lamp which I wasn't aware of when I ordered it. Will the thermostat still work with this heat lamp? Would I just need to make sure I have the dimmer turned all the way up so the thermostat can decide the amount of power/heat being sent? Or is it a bad idea to use it and I should purchase another lamp without a dimmer? Could you recommend a lamp that would be good to use with a CHE and thermostat?

      @GreenRoomPythons  Год назад +1

      That's right, just have the dimmer up and the thermostat should work with it just fine
