My dad, a southern born republican, adored Ali. When I asked my first question about boxing, he said “ Boy, sit down right here and let tell you about Muhammad Ali.” Dad had watched his first 4 professional fights and was at the second Liston fight where the “Phantom punch “ came in. He talked about it all the time. ❤❤
Muhammad Ali is the most influential figure of the 20th century. He’s the blueprint of the counterculture. He was the first prominent American to go left when every power wanted to force him to go right. It seems so commonplace now but it was not AT ALL then. He was alone in that and then everyone eventually followed his lead. An amazing human being. A powerful human being.
Muhammad Ali's overhand right is BY FAR the prettiest, most-graceful punch the boxing world has ever seen. I was a kid/high schooler in the 1970s and I IDOLIZED Ali. He was so much more than an athlete.....he transcended his sport......he was The Greatest Of All-Time. I can hardly speak of him now without a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye. RIP, Champ. I'll forever be grateful that I lived in your time.
People say michael joedan was the best sportsman of all time (no doubt talented)..but Ali is the true GOAT. He was in a brutal sport where a wring decision could finish yiu. A linely sport. No teamates ti helpmyou. Alinstood for his principles and gave up his title and money for his beliefs..which sportsman today or ever would do that? Ali was a rare special person. May Allah bless his soul. Alhumdulilah
Muhammad Ali will always be the most iconic athlete of all time because he was more than just his sport. No athlete had left their mark in the world than Muhammad Ali did.
What he did outside the ring beats anything he did inside it and to say that after everything he achieved as a boxer is a spectacular compliment. I’ve seen on video grown men cry as soon as they see him he had that effect on mankind a beautiful human.
The reason of him being slow and different was Not that he wasn't training but it was the "#Parkinsons Disease" that he was suffering with but at that time nobody knew. It made THE Legends Reflexes slow.😭
Hey guys I'm from the UK, just want to say I love your knowledge and the respect you gave Ali and the moral decisions he made towards the Vietnam war. Respect guys! Muhammad Ali was a true inspiration to the world! The world is a darker place without Ali now
Correction, he wasnt out doing nothing, he was going for his court cases and trying to provide for his family, for 3 years no professional fight, u certainly don’t expect him to be in top form
Those 3 yes away from fighting he was also doing a lot of public speaking at colleges & universities. He had no or very little money & this was how he supported himself & his family. One or two pro boxers even loaned or gave himmoney.
You guys got to learn your boxing history. Ali and Frazier fought three times. Frazier won the first one in 1971. Ali won the second one in 1974. Then Ali won the third one in 1975. The first two were in Madison Square Garden. Both fights went the distance. The third one was in Manila. Ali won after Frazier's manager stopped it after the 14th round.
You should check out WHEN WE WERE KINGS it's a great documentary about Ali v Foreman with great musicians performing in Zaire ,the Rumble in the Jungle ,some good footage from previous fights of both boxers ,the people of Zaire loved Ali, Foreman was not liked because he had a german shepherd dog at press conference the same dogs the police used in Zaire.
If you guys want to learn who Ali stated was “The Greatest Boxer: Pound for Pound” you should check out the vid about Sugar Ray Robinson on the channel Joseph Vincent. In the vid both Ali and Iron Mike say that he is the greatest.
if i remember a bit reason which why Muhammad Ali said it was closing to dead are due to 'THRILL IN MANILLA' were truly packed & really the battle of heat temp as took Philippines being among those country with most islands ( 7000+).
He stood for what he believed in. Also don't forget the black soldier's that did go to Vietnam, and came back. Still couldn't drink of certain fountains, had to go through a different door.
I come from a boxing family. The quality of heavyweights was far greater in those days to what it's been since. You want proof? George Foreman was 25 when Ali beat him for the heavyweight title in 1974. Foreman came out of retirement in 1994 and regained the title by a knockout. He was 45 years old.
Ali was far more than the goat. His attention span was off the charts super natural. Big and strong, and fists like snipers amazing fighting talent. On top of that a kind and great human being.
Love ali got a big poster in a frame in my living room and a lot of other fighters ..the greatest fighters in the history of boxing are ..tom Molineaux he was a slave who fought himself free , henry Armstrong, sam Langford, and sugar ray Robinson. Thats it no floyd ect ect
First fifteen fights the man named the round the opposition would go down on the .amazing absolute amazing rocky marceino was asked in Australia if he could name a round in which the opponent would go down he said I’m not that good Ali beautiful in and out of the ring
Many of the black panthers members changed their name from British colonial (slave names) to Islamic names which were popular in 80% of African counties to try and reclaim their history before slavery. That’s why he changed his name to Muhammad Ali
The story on the first Liston fight was that Liston had torn muscles in his left shoulder throwing such hard punches that missed Ali and could no longer use his left arm necessitating his withdrawal. Their second fight was the phantom punch knock out. The right hand that knocked Sonny out was so fast that it wasn't clearly visible to even the high speed equipment back then could show and the cry was that Liston had taken a dive. In this clip though, that punch is very clear. The Ernie Terrell fight was probably the most vicious fight Ali ever had. He had Terrell in serious trouble several times and backed off a little, refusing to knock Terrell out so he could continue to punish Terrell. The selective service process of that time was pretty simple actually. Once a year, a number between 1 and 365 was assigned to each day of the calendar year. The numbers were drawn randomly and you were selected in accordance to the number of your birthday that year. If your number came up, you were ordered to report for a physical examination and testing. (Watch/listen to Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant"). If you passed your physical and psychological evaluation, you were told when and where to report for induction. The only way out legally was to get a medical deferment (such as bones spurs), an educational deferment (college), or a conscientious objector deferment for religious beliefs. Ali had applied and was refused CO status based on his religion. Ali and Frazier probably took 3-5 years off each of their careers because of the physical beatings they gave each other. I think it was the third fight when they BOTH ended up in the hospital for several days. You have to look at the heavyweight ranks back then too. It started with Sonny Liston and ended with Larry Holmes (of whom Ken Norton said, "We'll never know how good he really is because there's nobody fighting today who can push him to his limit"). In between there were guys like Ernie Shavers, Jimmy Young, Oscar Buenaventa, and Henry Cooper (first to knock Ali off his feet). It was like the middleweight ranks when, they had Leonard, Hearns, Hailer, Duran and others of such abilities. There were just not that many easy fights in either group.
Frazer was the one guy who always gave Ali problems.they fought tree time Ali won twice, but every fight hurt both fighters.they left out that he was a gold medalist in the Olympics.
the ring ropes saved ali in the Foreman fight , the ropes were 24 feet and the ring was 22 feet , thats how he was able to lean so far back that the bunches were at there weakest
Totally agree with mookie in the idea that you have to admire respect the man that will stand for what they belive. Im white lol but ofc you should stand with ali and respect that he will not budge from his beliefs, which should be everyones belief, equality, respect, human rights etc.. stand for what is right basically. Rip Ali, a true people's champion ❤❤
Ali didn't throw Joe out of his path, big George did as you saw. Then Ali beat George and regain the title. Joe came back to beat Ali to regain the title but Ali won in Manilla.
If you just now seeing Muhammad Ali I feel sorry for your manhood...... If you just now knowing about this great beautiful black man...... I feel sorry for you 💪🏿😂💯💯 black women we will be so blest if more black man will be like Muhammad Ali one-of-a-kind
The sad part of Ali career is that he took so many punches over his career, he ended up being a bit “punch drunk” is what they called it.. but he suffered brain damage. It was evident early after retirement.. a person cannot take so many hits to the head and not get injured..
It's highly unlikely that he would ever have seen a shot fired in anger. His more likely assignment would have been making public relations appearances and training. When a fight came up, he would have taken leave so he could put the final polish on his game then back to PR work. Instead of making that compromise, he made a stand and refused any participation in it whatsoever The fights between Ali and Frazier cost both fighters probably 5 years off of their careers just due to the physical damage they did to each other.
cool that the Vietnam era was covered, it was a very important stage of ali's life. ali became very unpopular over it, but ultimately was proven right and contributed to ending the Vietnam conflict. he was more than just a boxer. also important to point out ali was unable to fight for 3.5 years and was never quite the same. he lost some of his movement and started getting hit.
He wasn't in jail, but he was out on bond, his travel restricted, and he couldn't get a license to box anywhere in the country He also had prohibitions from going to the gym and training as a condition of his bond
Ali never went to prison. He bonded out immediately and then fought thru the court system. He spent those years traveling to college campuses for speeches.
This is the best ali doc ive seen
Sunny Liston never kill no one he fought, but some people thought he was going to kill (Ali).
Non il y a beaucoup mieux que ça
Muhammad Ali was not a only a boxer but an activist and must be remembered by all free people. May Allah grant him paradise.

Pelé is the greatest sportsman of all time, he is the athlete of the XX century, 1900-1999, for a reason.

Marvin Hagler was a great fighter, no doubt about that. Muhammad Ali was a great fighter and a great man. For me, he was the greatest.

He was amazing boxer R.I.P
Thanks it's a great video love it 😀

The Will Smith movie was awful. Just watch Ali docs. The Hollywood film is rushed and gets a lot of things mixed up.
Wonderful. Thanks for sharing this. I really enjoyed it

During those three years he was protesting the Vietnam war and avoiding imprisonment for refusing to be drafted.

For what Ali did with Vietnam, you have to respect him as a man. Time vindicated him.

The George Foreman documentary is probably the best Joseph Vincent documentary there is imo.
Archetypal Prototype of a Fighter, and no doubt a beautiful specimen of a man...And that's not even the story...
Back in that time they were all brawlers. Ali invented the sweet science of dancing around the ring. No one ever did that b4
