A few things to note post-production thanks to some mentions in the comments: 1 - Kiyoshi Volume 2 is NOT coming out in January. Not encouraging, but not the end. 2 - The last 5 series batch was in 1998. I missed a comma in my own notes. 😭 3 - TADATOSHI Fujimaki. Got Chainsaw Man on the brain. 🙃 4 - There was another 4 manga batch that went from the end of 2022 magazine run into the start of 2023's run: Ichinose Family's Deadly Sins, Cipher Academy, Ichigoki's Under Control, and Fabricant 100. Still follows the half being successful rule.
Hey, I noticed that you stated in the video at around 4 minutes in about batches of 4 new series. Was this only for batches of 4 that started the year or did you forget the Ichinose - Cipher - Ichigoki - Fabricant batch in late 2022?
Which half of that was successful? Cipher Academy and Ichinose ran a bit longer than the other two, but they weren't exactly headliners, and still ended quite short.
Shonen Jump really is in a weird state. Now that MHA and JJK are over, the 4 oldest manga that are currently running in Shonen Jump are One Piece, Hunter X Hunter, Undead Unluck, and Mission Yozakura Family. The latter two are in their final arcs, Hunter X Hunter is going to go back on hiatus at some point, and even One Piece is in its final saga.
And once Yozakura and UU are gone, Me & Roboco becomes the 3rd oldest series running in the magazine. It's really out here trying to be the new Kochikame.
@@AxelablazeProductions It's crazy how all of the WSJ series from the 2000's and 2010's are almost all finished. Even Black Clover and Chainsaw Man that started in Jump, but switched magazines aren't going to be around for much longer.
@@DragonClaw95. Hate to break it to you but as long as Death Devil, Denji finding Power, the 3rd Control Devil reveal, Reze return & a God Devil etc hasn't surfaced yet, the CSM manga isn't ending anytime soon. Part 2 will conclude but not the series as a whole.
Yozakura is going to be over in like two or three chapters at this point. It's straight up at the epilogue. UU may last a bit more but not much. So yeah, it'll really be a magazine almost completely empty of classic long running battle shonen.
Cipher Academy, along with Ichinose Family both had the rare half axe treatment. Every once in a while Jump will let a series run for about a year or so without cancelling it and give the series a soft cancelation where they give it enough time to have a good ending. Psyren, Straighten Up!, and Enigma, and Kurogane were in the same boat.
Psyren getting rushed was such a crime. If it had another 4-5 volumes it could’ve ended and been fleshed out better. Some of the main cast didn’t even get a final fight
Well, both are from veteran mangakas, So they get alotnof cushions outside of the manga performance. but both has glaring issues lol. Cipher was just too smart for it's own market. and Ichinose just becomes Plot twist the manga. 😂
Besides the mainstays, only other jump series I follow was Kagurabachi, kiyoshi, and occasionally Ichi. As someone who was hyped for Kagurabachi before the first chapter came out, it was scary facing being axed, but we survived and are thriving. Hoping we can put the same energy into Kiyoshi, cause I really do think this series has great potential. I can’t help but see some one punch man, in a good way, so if you can please support Kiyoshi, MamaYuyu was taken way too early, we can’t let the same happen to Kiyoshi.
Personally, I hope that in either this new batch or the next one, we see MaMaYuYu's author give it another try. I think I might have mentioned this in a comment on one of your other videos, but while the art and storytelling are rough around the edges, I think the mangaka for this series has this great sense for creative decisions. His use of onomatopoeia in particular struck me, and I love when mangaka integrate those into the artwork like he does in some of MaMaYuYu's panels. I think he just needs a stronger concept and more refined art and character writing, and I'm hoping he's been polishing up those skills since MaMaYuYu got the axe. This isn't to do with the topic at hand, but while watching this video, I realized I'd really love it if you did deep dives on more series. I like your weekly reviews and I love these sorts of news segments, but if you had the time, seeing you take one specific manga and analyze it closely every month or two would be really welcome.
I would LOVE to see MamaYuyu's author come back. There was so much potential there. The panel work was one of my favorite aspects of the series. And we'll see on the in-depth analysis. I make no promises, but I may dabble in various content
Shinobi Undercover has really grown on me tbh. The chemistry with the two leads is cute. Hope it survives. Also even though it's Jump+, Shueisha editorial better not lay a finger on Centuria.
This is why Shonen Jump is still leading. They still sell alot compares to the randoms from other magazines. They're searching for Big hits not just to coddle rookies.
@@Kaimax61 One thing you're forgetting is that a lot of manga that gets cancelled has POTENTIAL. You can't plant a fruit tree and cut it down next year because it didn't bear fruit. Most people who watch One Piece or any other long running series say something like "it gets good around chapter 137" but Jump hardly gives these ones the chance to get that far. I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who has seen many good manga with great potential get axed, but I wouldn't know how manga sales work in Japan. That's why all the new manga seem either rushed, extremely short, or like they didn't have time to focus on key factors that would make the story better. Creative artists in a tight market struggling to show how good their product WOULD get all within the first 20 chapters
@@blackban4689 True but if you are getting published by jump there probably is a different bar all together, they will just cut down whatever to make room for new series since they can afford to do so in the pursuit of big names. I think most of the stuff that gets cancelled has potential and is interesting but so are the other series that come after, if a publisher like Jump focuses on getting real hits then who cares The artists knowingly compete to get published by jump since it's an amazing opportunity but there are more safe ways if you want an ongoing series.
What I want to see is something more traditional shonen. Something that's not afraid to use tropes from years past to make something fun and nostalgic. Give me a fun and likeable cast, a decent rival, an exciting adventure, and an interesting power system and I'm set.
It's really interesting discussion and analysis, i always like talking about how this industry work behind the scene but rarely found it without diving down myself
Another reason Kiyoshi could survive is that Eiichiro Oda has publicly praised the series and said it’s one of his current favorites. He said this in one of his more recent authors notes
This is a huge step up in presentation man, fire vid. A 6 batch would be cool but we could potentially get 2 back to back 4 batches. MYF and UU end, Hakutaku and Kiyoshi get axed. Then Kill Blue, Chojo, Himaten and Shinobi get axed. Though unfortunately I think we’re likely going to get a bunch of 3 batches lol
I think Shinobi Undercover has more of a shot than you're giving it credit for. It's been solidly in the middle of the pack so far and feels like it almost certainly exists to be the Yozakura Family replacement, which throughout its entire run held a similar position. I don't think that keeps it safe or anything and obviously bad sales in January could tank it out immediately, but I do think they have relatively decent hopes for it so it was surprising to see it as a high likelyhood of being axed. If anything it feels safer than at least half of the magazine right now to me. I think there's honestly a decent chance the next set could even just be MYF and Hakutaku alone but more likely three for a more fresh start to the year and that third would likely be Kiyoshi (which I don't want to happen I'm Kiyoshi Gang but I can also see writing on the wall). Meanwhile I think Undead Unluck might end up lasting until the set of cuts afterwards so they can fully wrap everything up and that's the set to really keep an eye on because that extra few months of time and information will confirm the fates of about half the magazine. Kiyoshi (if it survives), Chojo, Hima-ten, Kill Blue, Shinobi, Syd Craft, even Astro and Nue could be in the firing line. I'd even have included Witch Watch if it wasn't getting the anime as a low contender. You're definitely right that a big axe is dropping soon either way, I just think it's potentially happening a little later than you do.
Main reason why I had Shinobi as a high chance is that Jump is notorious for cutting off newer series before they can take off. It's by a veteran team, so that could either give them more leeway or more scrutiny. Regardless of what happens, the video was just one big speculative piece since we still have no idea what Yu Saito is going to do. A big move has to be made eventually, but like you said, it could happen later rather than sooner. Either way, there will be heartbreak eventually.
I would love to see a video with this level of research about kagurabachi to see how much of a monster the series became since i was comparing numbers from this video to the sales I remembered of kagurabachi
I dont know about Undead Unluck as Im anime only. But as a reader of Yozakura Family, it is ending in a the highest possible high for the story. Less than this would not be enough, any more would spoil it. This is the Hitman Reborn ending we deserved back in the day. Im so proud of what this series has become after being there from day one.
I guess I need to retake Yozakura fakily, I dropped it early and never returned to it. I stopped reading Reborn after the future arc. Young me was obsessed with that power system and was immediately thrashed.
@@HandOn-c40009 UU feels perhaps a bit rushed as far as endings go. YozaFam is perfectly paced and delivered for now. I'm guessing next chapter might be the epilogue. Truly it's a series that has never stood out particularly but it has always done what it does very competently and never missed a beat.
Ichi the Witch better stay, I know it's the most likely to but Mma and Green green greens hurt me. They were my faves and now Ichi is my favorite thing to read each week
@@AxelablazeProductions Since I watched your other recent video about jump I do feel better hearing it already has a pretty big following in Japan at least. I knew that it has a good following in the west for a new shonen jump series but I also knew that wouldn't save it.
Well researched and presented. I can see why you'd think something like this could happen. Especially as when new people become in charge of things, they want to establish their mark & legacy. I've seen people say this about TV networks too. There's a reason Roboco made a chapter to suck up to the EoC as soon as they could lol. Seems January will determine the trajectory of things. Couple things I want to add. tl;dr at the bottom I am surprised Astro Royale didn't get included in this discussion. This is both because of the mangaka and it being a newer series. Current sales should keep it safe from the next axes, but this series is an important aspects of the magazines potential identity. Much like Ichi the Witch we have not only a veteran, but talent from another magazine come on board. I feel like we may see that again in our next batch. Additionally, even if Astro survive this round, it's sales will determine the next. Same could be said for Ichi. Bring this up because this strategy of poaching mangaka may end if we get back to back losses. Next the axe candidates. Now the standards used made sense, but some of them were peculiar instances. Because P6 for sure was an axe, but Cipher is more debatable. Both lasted a good while too. So while I think using those as examples were important to say that Hima-ten & Kiyoshi may not be safe, they do fall in range to last just long enough to tell a story. Which considering the nature of both series, would work out fine. Focusing on these two, I know you've said before that Hima ten has a higher survival chance than Kiyoshi & the newest ToC seems to agree. But I feel with Syd craft as direct competition, that's also a factor in Hima ten's long term survival. Also as I just mentioned the ToC, KB may have a higher axe chance than I feel is presented. Rest of the candidates are straightforward enough. Hakutaku is gone and Shinobi Undercover has one shot. As for the gags it's always hard to say. High school family just died out of nowhere so it could happen for Chojo. I did want to end on possible candidates for the new batch. But it felt rather tacked on in this video so I'm not sure if you have a follow up in mind. If that's happening, I'd rather go into detail for that discussion. Though briefly I'll say some things. For my own personal wants I'd go with a psychological series, a scifi series, and/or a better game series. What makes the most sense for the magazine is probably a sports series, another battle series, and maybe a delinquent series. In terms of returns, I want the mangaka of Super Smartphone and Dororon back most. Maybe Red Hood & i tell C too. But if my theory of authors of other magazines showing up is true, then maybe Inagaki can come back and dual write series like Iruma's author. tl;dr great video. you made a solid argument and had data to back it up. Most of these axes I can see happening. I feel like Astro Royale & Ichi the Witch will be safe but their fate will determine a lot after this first set of axes. Though I will say even those that survive may only last a year and that could be okay. Got some ideas for the new batch but maybe save that for another video
My main factor for not bringing up Astro was because of the mangaka poaching thought process. I think it's going to receive that little extra grace that keepd it out of contention for February/March. After that? Could absolutely be in the discussion for an ax. I think making a new series speculation video would be good. Like you said, I just added a short blurb at the end of this video, so it would be good to go into my wants for genres, mangaka, etc
I have to say this Axel. This latest chapter of Undead Unluck is the last chapter in it's respective volume. So it's got at least one more volumes worth of content left (9 chapters) but if they're starting to fight the final boss now, then you know it's gonna take more than one volume. Final bosses tend to take more than one volume to defeat, as we all know. So I'd give Undead Unluck a ballpark estimate of around 18 more chapters before it reaches an end. But I think we can all agree that it's definitely ending in the early portion of next year. We've all made peace with that.
I get where you're coming from. Most final boss fights can take a long time. That said there are a LOT of players here at the same time compared to other arcs where only a handful can make a difference. I think it will be enjoyable either way, but let's see how it shakes out.
@@noahsarc9531 I sincerely hope you’re right. But right now I’m thinking it’ll be more like 5 chapters to beat God and 1 or 2 chapters of epilogue. It definitely seems like they told Tozuka to wrap it up.
@@pokepwned Come on. I remember when everyone said the same thing when the original Ragnarok came along and the "UU has reached the climax of the final battle" mistranslation came out and people legitimately thought it was getting cancelled with no anime. Needless to say, people like you and alot of others ended up with an egg on their face and us, the fans, ended up eating good for the next 2 years.
Hasn't Shinobi been making good traction on Japanese social media and Mangaplus? Also it is such a massive step up from Candy Flurry I'd hate to see it axed just as its starting to find its footing.
@@kamirubidan2080 Good question! It's definitely a big step up from Candy Flurry. I'd like to be optimistic, but you never know until those sales numbers actually roll in.
I'd be devastated if Hima-Ten gets axed. It's been satisfying the Nisekoi itch I've had for a while now. Also cmiiw but Hima-Ten and Blue Box are the only SoL romcom we have on jump right now, so it might hopefully help with Hima-Ten's survival
Shinobi Undercover is pretty good and as been getting better so I hope it doesn't get axed. And I'm pretty sure Kill Blue is safe, in part because they recently started selling it abroad : at least the first volume was published by Crunchyroll a few month back in France, and apparently vol 1 is slated for summer 2025 in English, by Viz. Obviously, jp sales is what matter most, but I woul be surprised if the editors didn't took care to not axe series they've just sold the licence for, it's probably bad for your relationship with overseas partners.
To be fair, Shueisha also owns Viz, but I do get what you mean. Definitely a factor for why Kill Blue is probably safe for a little while longer, but not a whole lot if sales keep dropping
I think Shinobi Undercover may be safer than it seems. Average TOC rankings aren’t a perfect indicator but its current average puts it in the middle of the pack just above Witch Watch. It’s January sales will definitely be the final barrier.
Really good video. Im currently reading all of the newer Jump manga and Im hoping Shinobi and Himaten come out alive. I personally love them along side Blue Box since they keep me smiling. I also know you didnt touch on Syd Craft since it just came out, but Im hoping that last too. It's refreshing for how it plays into the absurdity of the scenario and is so far keeping those good vibes up. You are spot on though for Hakutaku being axed. I think unlike the other newer titles this one isnt doing anything to keep anyone grabbing for it. There is a reason why no one is talking about it, which makes me wonder why did Jump serialize it in its current state?
@@chisayukizome5435 I think a big part of Hakutaku and quick ax series in general is that they want to give newer mangaka experience in the magazine. The premise isn't bad but the execution is lacking for Hakutaku specifically. It also doesn't hurt to serialize series that most likely won't go far just so they can keep rotating through new stuff instead of axing the old stuff
@AxelablazeProductions Which is fair and putting it like that like I think is a good call. I just also feel bad for the mangaka since it can't be easy knowing their series is on borrowed time at least with the positions not changing much alongside the lack of promotion. But if nothing else it's a good learning experience for them and hopefully they can take this as a chance to improve.
@chisayukizome5435 With how many hundreds of new manga come out each year, it's still a pretty big deal to be one of the 8 to 15 that make it in Weekly Shonen Jump. I feel bad for how short their series might be, but I applaud them for making the cut.
half of these I didn't know even exist, looking at the thing listed outside of UU and Yozakura which I follow the only one that catch my interest is Cipher, Shinobi undercover, Ultimate exorcist and PPPPPP Exorcist has unironically cool cover art
Well, I can see why sueshia hasnt axed kill blue as it has a better performance in terms of sales consistency but What i know about nepotism it could be very real as far as I know
@@pablototox In the grand scheme of things, it sells well. It sells better than series that have run for longer in other magazines. That said Jump needs to do something with these declining sales
I hear you there. Whether or not Tozuka had always intended for Unjustice to steamroll these Master Rules, this is all going VERY fast here in the end.
Some of the newer series im keeping up with is Kagurabachi, Astro Royale, and Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi. Ive liked Kagurabachi since the first chapter, same with astro royale and kiyoshi. I dont really care for the storytelling, yes obviously its important to me but i rather have fun just reading a manga, like Astro royale. Its called basic but i have fun reading, aswell with kiyoshi and Kagurabachi. Idk but i like those 3 the most outta of the newer series. Those 3 just have what i look for in a battle action series.
Also, regarding Himaten, I dunno if you keep up with ToC leaks at all, but I just saw the one for next week and, let's just say, Himaten getting axed now I think just got much, much less likely...
Yup. I speak about this a bit in my State of Jump video. It only has so much more history to cover, but they're probably letting Matsui go at his own pace. E Sam has always sold better than Yozakura and UU.
So, I’ve only read mission Yozakura family so I’m not familiar with other shounen jump manga. But why are you saying the kill blue is nepotism? Because I’ve heard people saying that it’s a good manga.
@@stopme5687 I want to clarify first that I am a KB fan. I enjoy it a lot. The nepotism part comes from the fact that the author is a veteran with declining sales. Sales are good comparatively but still. While KB has survived, other manga have been cut with similar sales or better.
I really like Kill Blue but yeah it is doomed. Sales declining and TOC's in the gutter. Hakutaku was DOA, Kiyoshi and Himaten had low sales but Himaten has better TOC's. Kiyoshi rebounded a bit so it may stay around a little longer. Undercover Shinobi seems to me like an axe but it had decent views on Japanese mangaplus similar to Astro Royale and MamaYuyu in retained readership so it may stick around till 30 chapters.
Out of all of them, it definitely seems like Hima-Ten is the safest. Obviously anything and everything can change in the span of 2 months, but the pieces are starting to fall in place for which series are heading for the chopping block.
@@AxelablazeProductions I agree that seems like the likely survivor if any and I am excited to see what 2025 brings for WSJ with the magazine changing a lot this year. We will have only 8 veterans left in the mag with UU and YozaFam ending. Also we might possibly see series like Witch Watch, Elusive Samurai and Sakamoto Days ending in 2025 or 2026 since they are all nearing the sweet spot of 180-260 chapters which most long running series end up being. Hoping we get a few hits this year like Kagurabachi and Ichi, would also love to see a new and successful sports manga like you 👍
it lowkey sucks that I love both himaten and kill blue and I dont want either of them to get axed. Especially Kill blue which I really hoped that it would live long enough for a anime adaptations. I also didn't know how popular We never learn was
@@aritrasaha441 @stopme5687 The nepotism part comes from the fact that the author is a veteran with declining sales. Sales are good comparatively but still. While KB has survived, other manga have been cut with similar sales or better.
I personally think that Shinobi and Kill Blue are direct competition if KB keeps selling like crap and Shinobi"s first volume sells more then KB dies and Shinobi lives. Hima-Ten and Kiyoshi could stay for a while like Cipher and MMA but just like with KB and Shinobi I think that Hima-Ten and Sid Craft will be competing for a romcom spot and whatever sells well will stay. I like all of these series but I'm almost 100% sure that by April at least two will be dead lol.
I think Jump would be more willing to keep competing series so long as their sales are healthy, but if one starts tanking, it makes sense to nip one in the bud. Either way, I'm very curious to see January's sales.
@@LynnHermione Nepotism is a form of favoritism toward family/friends. So in the case of Kill Blue, Yu Saito used to be Fujimaki's editor when he was writing Kuroko's Basketball. If KB continues to decline in sales but stays in the magazine, people may accuse Jump editorial of nepotism.
I’m thinking MYF, UU, and Hakutaku for this round and SU, KB, and Kiyoshi for next round. Astro Royale and Hima-Ten! feel relatively safe to me, especially with this arc of AR and the recent rankings for HT. For new series next year, it’s basically a given that we’ll see one of the past two GFC winners start their series. Matsuura coming back also feels very likely. A sports series (since we had zero in 2024) and a major veteran returning to up the perceived quality of the magazine (like how they did with Hunter x Hunter when JJK left). I’m thinking the Haikyu or Demon Slayer authors HAVE to come back soon…right?
@ With how much money, they’ve both made; they really have no reason to return outside of passion for the craft and wanting to work. (I’m hoping for Furudate too though.)
The only thing i disagree about you is Kill Blue status. The chances of it being cancelled is as high as Yozakura and Hakutaku. Its more constantly on bottom 2 than any other series and being even below Hakutaku once. I would say even Undead Unluck could survive more than Kill Blue (but UU would endin April anyway) In my honest opinion we will get 4 series ending and thats the 3 you guaranteed (even if i said uu could survive just for one last breath i believe it wont) plus Kill Blue Shinobigoto is a bit soon for CURRENT Jump Standards but for April i dont see why not 3 more goodbyes between Shinobigoto (now having sales results), Kiyoshi, Chojo, Himaten and maybe Syd I will be cheering for Himaten survival
@@6ustavocosta I think KB is safe for just one more round for now given the current plot. If January sales flop again, I think we'll see the plug pulled in April/May. So 3 for the next ax (if they play it safe) and then 2-4 the next round. Some combo of KB, Syd Craft (heard reception so far is cold), Shinobi (if sales are low), and maybe Kiyoshi if volume 2 in February flounders
I think you made a mistake of the batch of 5 as it was 1998. It was the batch of Whistle!, Rookies, and Hunter x Hunter. Also, I don’t think it is a batch of 6. It will be 3. It is hard cause Saito is not as definitive with the ToC. I think Kiyoshi, Hima, and Shinobi are going to be safe. But I think Kiyoshi is facing some trouble. I think Hima is for sure safe because there is a difference between romance and action titles.
Whoops. Missed a comma in my own notes. Shonen Tantei Q and Kappa Revolution were the other two from that batch. A batch of three would be the safest bet, but I feel like we need something big to start the year
I made a vow to never start a new Jump manga ever again after PPPPP got axed. I'll wait until a new series gets 100+ chapter and is constantly placed high on rankings before starting it
I love Shinobi undercover but i think it'll get axed 😭, i have the biggest fear of my favs getting axed especially agter shojo null got axed. Right now I'm praying for i hope you're happy lemon, ankoku delta, Shinobi & bug girl. Idk if these are on jump considering i only read off manga plus but still.
@@JustCookieHead The Jump+ series are released online weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending on the series. While some run like regular manga until they're axed, other series are intentionally made short
I think it'll be 4. They've had the same success rate with 6 vs 4, 4 means less cuts that aren't needed My fav series is on Jump+ though so im not too worried.
@AxelablazeProductions thats fair. I also think the new editor could want to make a big impression/show of power and axe 6 series like his predecessor, but I think 5 may be more likely as he may show nepotism towards kill blue.
Kill Blue surviving through sheer nepotism both had me giggling and go "aaaahhh, now it makes sense." I stand by that Kill Blue could have ended around chapter 50ish and it would have been a satisfying ending. It did not need to keep going. That being said, while I am enjoying Shinobi Undercover way more than I thought I would, it would not be surpise me if it got the axe. It's good, but it's not amazingly good. Like Ichi the Witch. I was instantly hooked from the first chapter, you can tell that manga is quality. I'm also surprised I'm enjoying Hima-Ten! so much. It's a fun little romcom and like with Jump+ having several of those ending recently, both platforms are lacking in romcoms.
I agree that KB would have had a fine ending around 50 as well, but I won't complain about additional content now. It's going to be very interesting to see how sales either save or fail these manga moving forward.
Not quite related to the topic but I gotta ask: do JUMP+ mangas ever get axed? Outside of few big hits they are rarely talked about so popularity is not that important it seems. They don't take up any magazine space either. I don't think I've heard of a single one of those being cancelled and that confuses me, how do they make money?
Jump+ titles DO get axed just like other manga. That said there are also series with intentionally short runs. Sometimes you can tell the difference. Other times people will just see "X series has ended today with 16 chapters" and automatically think it was axed when it might not have been.
@@AxelablazeProductions I think I've read 3 of that kind. Takopi's Original Sin was one of those wasn't it? But how are the mangakas' wages over there? Those series aren't promoted nearly as much as their magazine counterparts. Like Spy x Family, Chainsaw Man and Dandadan are huge already but what does Centuria's author live off?
@@filiposki301 Yes. Takopi was a short series. I'd imagine their wages are similar to those in the main magazine. Shueisha isn't the only one with an online manga service, and a lot of these authors post weekly
The thing with hakutaku was that it could've been a bizarrely unique series.....but the first chapter was the only thing good about it cuz as much as a manga about making videogames could've been interesting, the author just didn't research enough about the premise of his manga😅
@fable2830 To be fair to UU and Yozakura, those two aren't getting axed as their conclusions are feeling more natural. But like Sebastian mentioned, some manga get cut in a way where they get a conclusion but you can tell they had more story to tell. Similar things happened to Beelzebub and even Toriko
You sure bc I think they might still give it an anime season 1 and see how it does even if it’s not the most popular. Bc there is not too many popular new anime
@@TareksNBA 67 series have debuted in Shonen Jump since Mission Yozakura Family joined in 2019. Of those, only 10 received an anime. Kiyoshi's odds are not great.

I still feel salty about MamaYuyu and Mission Yozakura Family feels like it's ending properly to me at least I don't feel the axe or rush for it, then my favourite SJ manga rn Udul it feels a little more rushed in certain chapters but hopefully Tozuka gets to finish everything properly.

3 - TADATOSHI Fujimaki. Got Chainsaw Man on the brain. 🙃
4 - There was another 4 manga batch that went from the end of 2022 magazine run into the start of 2023's run: Ichinose Family's Deadly Sins, Cipher Academy, Ichigoki's Under Control, and Fabricant 100. Still follows the half being successful rule.
Wdym by number 3
@knoxxx272 I said "Tatsuki Fujimaki" in the video when his name is Tadatoshi.
Hey, I noticed that you stated in the video at around 4 minutes in about batches of 4 new series. Was this only for batches of 4 that started the year or did you forget the Ichinose - Cipher - Ichigoki - Fabricant batch in late 2022?
@@JustTryingtoHelp-g8h Oi vey... Yeah. I missed that one with the year change for the magazine run. Adding that to the list here.
HxH is already back on hiatus due to Togashi's spinal surgery. I really hope they grant him some relief.
Yozakura is going to be over in like two or three chapters at this point. It's straight up at the epilogue. UU may last a bit more but not much. So yeah, it'll really be a magazine almost completely empty of classic long running battle shonen.
I'll be devastated if Kiyoshi gets axed, it's artstyle is truly unique and I'm loving it! I'm still sad about Kyokuto Necromance getting axed.

Psyren will always be the one I'm sad about. You're right that they gave it an okay end to soften the blow, but it's still an unfortunate loss.
Psyren getting rushed was such a crime. If it had another 4-5 volumes it could’ve ended and been fleshed out better. Some of the main cast didn’t even get a final fight
Psyren mentioned and I automatically wept internally 😢
Well, both are from veteran mangakas, So they get alotnof cushions outside of the manga performance.
but both has glaring issues lol.
Cipher was just too smart for it's own market.
and Ichinose just becomes Plot twist the manga. 😂
I could see Hima-Ten getting something like that
Besides the mainstays, only other jump series I follow was Kagurabachi, kiyoshi, and occasionally Ichi.
I'm hoping it can keep up the fight. I really enjoy Kiyoshi too
Kagurabachi memes saved the serie.
@mathieul4303 its first volume selling out in japan was also a big factor
nah after the one shot mamayuyu lost most of its fuel, I would have axed it too
Pls for the love of god read centúria you WILL love it
Personally, I hope that in either this new batch or the next one, we see MaMaYuYu's author give it another try.
I'm praying hard for Centuria. Sales have NOT been good
If Centuria gets axed I'll literally riot

This is why Shonen Jump is still leading.

@@Kaimax61 EXACTLY,people forget this fact
I think most of the stuff that gets cancelled has potential and is interesting but so are the other series that come after, if a publisher like Jump focuses on getting real hits then who cares
The artists knowingly compete to get published by jump since it's an amazing opportunity but there are more safe ways if you want an ongoing series.
What I want to see is something more traditional shonen. Something that's not afraid to use tropes from years past to make something fun and nostalgic. Give me a fun and likeable cast, a decent rival, an exciting adventure, and an interesting power system and I'm set.

Another reason Kiyoshi could survive is that Eiichiro Oda has publicly praised the series and said it’s one of his current favorites. He said this in one of his more recent authors notes
@@coopnsara While true, not every author promo manifests that way. Gege gave a promo for MamaYuyu and it got axed after having similar volume 1 sales
Slowly getting better with the editing. Lol.
It probably will be 3 if they're trying to play it safe. I just want the chaos.
Kiyoshi better not get axed. Oda just praised it so hopefully that boosts it a bit. It’s been out of the bottom 5 on the rankings
@@sharebear421 it didn’t boost from Oda’s shoutout but we’ll see if the reprints do anything
I hope kyioshi will be safe, I’m really enjoying it. Kill blue just came dead last in the weekly rankings
Not a bad idea. I'll give it some thought and see what I can do.
Oof. Don't remind me about the Reborn ending 😭
@AxelablazeProductions hurts to this day bro 😭
haven't catch up with Yozakura but Undead Unluck also ending on high note, Fuuko character come so far man...
@@spawnofthestorm4094 I loved MMA and GGG too. I think Ichi has a much stronger position at least
@@AxelablazeProductions Since I watched your other recent video about jump I do feel better hearing it already has a pretty big following in Japan at least. I knew that it has a good following in the west for a new shonen jump series but I also knew that wouldn't save it.
Don't forget act-age, kei yonagi was jump's only female lead for a while too before the author shot himself in the foot.
Couple things I want to add. tl;dr at the bottom
I am surprised Astro Royale didn't get included in this discussion.
I’d like to agree with you but they took out the rest of the Master Rules in like three chapters so I’m not really holding my breath
@ yes, but the Master Rules aren’t the main antagonist of the manga, God/Luna are. There’s no way in hell they’re taking them out in 3 chapters.
@@noahsarc9531 I sincerely hope you’re right. But right now I’m thinking it’ll be more like 5 chapters to beat God and 1 or 2 chapters of epilogue. It definitely seems like they told Tozuka to wrap it up.

And even if it's a formality, it did get that recent color page where Hakutaku did not.

Kiyoshi rebounded a bit so it may stay around a little longer. Undercover Shinobi seems to me like an axe but it had decent views on Japanese mangaplus similar to Astro Royale and MamaYuyu in retained readership so it may stick around till 30 chapters.

@@pattongilbert I would absolutely love to see Furudate come back. Gotouge would be nice too, but who knows when the two of them want to come back?
@ With how much money, they’ve both made; they really have no reason to return outside of passion for the craft and wanting to work. (I’m hoping for Furudate too though.)
The only thing i disagree about you is Kill Blue status. The chances of it being cancelled is as high as Yozakura and Hakutaku. Its more constantly on bottom 2 than any other series and being even below Hakutaku once. I would say even Undead Unluck could survive more than Kill Blue (but UU would endin April anyway)
In my honest opinion we will get 4 series ending and thats the 3 you guaranteed (even if i said uu could survive just for one last breath i believe it wont) plus Kill Blue
Shinobigoto is a bit soon for CURRENT Jump Standards but for April i dont see why not 3 more goodbyes between Shinobigoto (now having sales results), Kiyoshi, Chojo, Himaten and maybe Syd
I will be cheering for Himaten survival
@@6ustavocosta I think KB is safe for just one more round for now given the current plot. If January sales flop again, I think we'll see the plug pulled in April/May.
So 3 for the next ax (if they play it safe) and then 2-4 the next round. Some combo of KB, Syd Craft (heard reception so far is cold), Shinobi (if sales are low), and maybe Kiyoshi if volume 2 in February flounders
Watching this video made me miss my beloved Phantom Seer. RIP my king.😔
@@raisabia Gone way too soon.
Hope the creators come back for another crack at it soon.
Great vid
Thank you!
A batch of three would be the safest bet, but I feel like we need something big to start the year
@ oh definitely
They really likely to axe KillBlue or that gag manga. The protagonists black and white hair is to similar.
(Just my weird inexperienced opinion)
Lol. It's okay having a weird inexperienced opinion like that
I made a vow to never start a new Jump manga ever again after PPPPP got axed. I'll wait until a new series gets 100+ chapter and is constantly placed high on rankings before starting it
That is certainly a choice, but I don't fault you for it. P6 ax was awful
Those are all Jump+ titles. They work a bit differently than Weekly Shonen Jump titles.
@@AxelablazeProductions what males them different?
@@JustCookieHead The Jump+ series are released online weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending on the series. While some run like regular manga until they're axed, other series are intentionally made short
I think it'll be 4. They've had the same success rate with 6 vs 4, 4 means less cuts that aren't needed
My fav series is on Jump+ though so im not too worried.
I also think it will be 4, but 2017 proves that crazier things have happened. Plus, making bolder predictions makes for more enticing videos. Lol
@AxelablazeProductions thats fair. I also think the new editor could want to make a big impression/show of power and axe 6 series like his predecessor, but I think 5 may be more likely as he may show nepotism towards kill blue.
I wish axed series could go to jump +!
@sharebear421 while that would be nice, it wouldn't make much money. Plus the creators can come back with another series, like Horikoshi did
Kill Blue surviving through sheer nepotism both had me giggling and go "aaaahhh, now it makes sense."
I stand by that Kill Blue could have ended around chapter 50ish and it would have been a satisfying ending.
I need Ichi to live!!! If my son disappears, so will my love for jump
There will be HELL to pay if Ichi gets the ax
Was Kagurabachi one of them?
@@tomo8940 no. No it was not.
Is centuria in jump?
No. It's Jump+
I've lost all hope in jump since they canceled ayashimon and Hunter guild red hood nothing has been as good since
Ayashimon was terrible IMO specially compared to the author's previous work Hell's Paradise. Red Hood was SOOOOOO good with so much potential though 😭
Hey! There is still Centuria.
YEEEESSSSS GREEN GREEN GREENS MENTIONRC WOOOOOOOOO🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@purplepikmin1128 literally my favorite part of the video
The thing with hakutaku was that it could've been a bizarrely unique series.....but the first chapter was the only thing good about it cuz as much as a manga about making videogames could've been interesting, the author just didn't research enough about the premise of his manga😅
A lot of finished products and surface level explanations
Can manga get axed even if theyre like over 100 chapters? I thought after a few chapters theyre immune to the axe but i guess not?
Low sales brother it doesn't matter how long you're series is running if it's not selling
@fable2830 that's kinda sad ngl 😭, but it makes sense I just wish more authors were able to finish their stuff
Yes. High School Family and Psyren had way more than 100 chapters each, when they were axed.
Spare kiyoshi please. Thnx
I really really really REALLY dont want Hima-Ten to get axed 😭😭
Ive been enjoying the hell out of it and its seriously starting to heat up rn...
Probably the safest out of the bunch, so you should be okay
Yo how did UEK fall off? It’s been a great story
Do you also think UEK will have a anime?
I do not think it will get an anime, no. It's got a LOT of work to do if it wants to survive let alone get an anime. It's not impossible, but the odds are stacked against it.
Damn it
I still feel salty about MamaYuyu and Mission Yozakura Family feels like it's ending properly to me at least I don't feel the axe or rush for it, then my favourite SJ manga rn Udul it feels a little more rushed in certain chapters but hopefully Tozuka gets to finish everything properly.
@@SamTheGumMan117 I'm still salty for MamaYuyu too. And Yozakura IS getting a natural end. It just makes for a better title to say "axed"
I think undead unluck is just ending soon, not getting axed? Things have endings
Yup. Which is why I clarify that in the intro. Lol
I Think hima ten safe kioyshi safe and uu is about to end soon even though i dont want it too. i think we could get 2 new manga into 2025. will see what happen awesome video.
I’m hoping for a fantasy manga to succeed in jump.
Similar to Akaboshi, Yoakemono and Ice-head gill
Jump definitely needs more fantasy
Can you please tell me what percent of it not getting axed and what percent of it getting an anime and can you tell me why?
I’m begging Jump to please not axe Kill Blue 😭 It’s super bizarre but in a way that makes it a really fun read. The action is really cool too. It could’ve easily gone in a cringey direction with its premise but it’s actually surprisingly wholesome. It’s not for everyone but I really hope it sticks around.
@@pokepwned I enjoy it almost every week. Like you said, it could have gone down the wrong path, but Ogami is like the unintentional group dad in kid form.
If we do get 6 new manga in 2025 the U19 author can do the funniest thing ever
That would be absolutely hilarious.
Undead Unlock is literally about to end why would they cancel it
They're not cancelling it. I even say in the video that it's just ending. But thumbnails.
Somebody please save Kiyoshi it is legit good.
Fr
I really hope they don’t axe Kiyoshi😭
Same
in 2025? we prepare for the perpetual reign of gachiakuta
@@hr-g4640 That's fine and all... but Gachiakuta is in Weekly Shonen Magazine. Not Weekly Shonen Jump
Not sold on the Editor in chief. If he had a hand in Mappa getting CSM, and the HxH movies, not good.
@@grannysint1625 I haven't watched the latter, but CSM's first season was good. MAPPA's director was the one pitching hard to work on it, so management is at fault for the work environment there
Let's get Robocco, Elusive Samurai, Nue, and Kill Blue up outta here. All 4 are chalk and have occupied a spot for potential hits for far too long.
They're popular enough with the people that buy the physical magazine, but of the 4, E Sam and KB are the two most likely to go. One naturally and one with an ax
Me seeing undead unluck axed at thumbnail: bruh😢
Video: no undead isn't axed but is ending soon.
Me: good😊 but a bit rush imo
Just a part of the hook for the video. Lol. I'm just enjoying the end of the ride
I'm gonna cry if Kiyoshi gets axed. No joke.
@@mateoostorero2223 Relatable
Awesome vid that goes in depth! Personally hope we get another battle shonen, I thought ichi and shinobi would be battle but they really aren’t, they’re more comedy than anything else.
I love Ichi's comedy, but then again, I love Nishi's comedy writing in general. The action in Shinobi is great though. Feels like Sakamoto 2. Lol
they can axe all of them imo, the recent stuff has been pretty uninspiring. though I have a soft spot for shinobi undercover, it can stay, just would like it to lean a little less into the loser shtick for the mc
I have a soft spot for Shinobi too. Its action panels have been fantastic
I miss murakami
Sorry, but whenever supereyepatchwolf gets mentioned, I feel a sense of dread considering how he's never been one to say acknowledge when he is wrong, as the case with yozakura family.
Completely understandable. Adding in the SEW mention here was meant to trigger nostalgia for where things started
Hima ten is the best
U19 was really good...
