Been in the game 12yrs. learned it from my uncle, 3rd gen mason. Taught me all the tips and tricks 40yrs of experience. I only do flatwork. I pour, pull over on way home, watch other guys pour, go home watch concrete vids on youtube. I think I have a problem. LOL Mike is the best! Thanks for all the vids buddy.
Iv had a vibra screed for about 8 years love it it leaves the surface smooth so there's less bull floating to do takes away a lot of strain on my stomach ,back and shoulders .its a great tool I've had lots of concrete delivery drivers ask where I bought it
I'm a concrete guy in Michigan, just trying to get my own business rolling. I just wanted to compliment your crew on pouring out all ten before even cutting a pad. U guys got your stuff together!
Hey mate thanks for sharing you knowledge with us. Over here in Australia it's hard to get a boss or older experienced guy to explain things in depth so thanks very much.
just got a vibra screed 2 and get to use it Monday. they are back savers for sure. question do you prefer the non orbital floats? i notice your not using them.
How do you keep the power screed from sinking? I’ve used mine a handful of times and it always seems like one or both ends will sink down a little bit. I have a Marshall town with a 12’ board.
Mike you’re an inspiration to me. I’m a 30 year old finisher with 6 years experience in concrete. I’m confident in my skills and want to have a business like you have one day. Watching your content gives me hope that one day I can achieve that. Now all I need is good help like Luke and Darren!
you've earned yourself a sub bud...working with a crew of 10 guys (me included) what this video shows is all too familiar such as the guy pouring the hose from the pump along with the vibra screed operator and the guys raking the concrete it is definitely interesting and something different everyday than the average 9-5 job and yes we too use marshalltown tools very good indeed
I've been watching you for a while now and this is a great video like the others. One thing I CAN NOT figure out to save my life is this: how are you getting the floor within 1/16" if you're not running the screed on form boards or using screed pins? I understand you're using the topcon but everything in the middle seems to be eyeballed. The way you do it seems to be common practice. I'm just hoping to gain a very complete understanding of why and how the elevation is spot on. Thanks!
If you watch the video back you'll see us making "wet pads" in the concrete using the laser and grade stick. We screed our pads in the middle using these wet pads. Then we use the power screed from these screed pads. It's all set with the laser. Really accurate.
Concrete Ninja thinks he is an engineer everytime he hits the glass pipe. This idiot doesn't realise the slab has nowhere to go! It's locked in the surrounding walls. Open free standing house slabs require "reo" or rebar because they have nothing locking them in. Fiber mesh prevents cracks better then rebar but rebar prevents widening of the cracks better . This fuck face always talks shit about how yanks do concrete but he can't do it properly himself, just watch this snail screed....its hilarious to say the least.
Hey Mike great video. Im going to order a Shockwave. I wanted to order the 14ft screed but will get the 12 if you think it makes a difference to learn with? Do you use a certain size you prefer or just depends on the job size? Thanks. Been hand screeding for 40 years but getting too old!
What slump do you like to order your concrete at for driveways, patios, and floors like this and garage floors etc? I never know the best one and it always seems pretty stiff when It gets to the site
It has fibermesh in the concrete for reinforcement, no need for rebar inside a foundation wall like this if the sub-base is installed and compacted properly.
Thanks Mike. I work in Concrete and trying to learn since my Boss always leaves me with the other guy and I dont get to learn or use certain things enough. My Boss always does the Screed and Power trowel so I am always doing the hand work and grunt shit. Tried the Power Trowel n its harder then it looked.I'm raking and when my Boss doesnt get the pump truck i am wheel barrow. I want to use the Bull Float n need to get better at the power trowel
Looks like i can learn alot on your page.if this screed is alot better why soesnt everyone use it.just asking .im ganna pour a parking lot for a customer. We are ganna use 300psi with 1 1/2 rock and with fiber mesh so i can saw just the next day does that sound ok .5 inch thick with 1/2 rebar
Mike Day Everything About Concrete Hi Mike, I’ve heard from some that vibrascreeds can trap bleed water and can cause durability issues with exterior slabs exposed to freeze thaw. I would love try a vibrascreed for driveways but I would hate to have any problems with durability. Are there procedures or mix design that change when you use the vibrascreed on exterior projects? Thanks again for your videos and helping out others in the industry, Paul
Mike have you ever had any issues with trapped bleed water, like that guy was saying. I mean I know tons of guys that will say all kinds of junk to justify why they don't use anything but the one, and only method they have ever learned, Id trust you over anyone saying they are not good for exterior work.
@@paulp8251 Good point. I understand vibrascreeds are banned in many locations because they can easily be misused and leave a very poor surface of the final product. The concrete mix can separate and the bleed water can be trapped. Should not use vibrascreeds for optimal results, and you really have to know what you are doing. Floors in homes where the surface will be covered isn't so important as long as it is flat. Some of the roller screed people talk about these things.

We are having a problem with our whiteman power screed not propelling itself as it's supposed to do. It runs, it vibrates, but it will not propel itself. It has something to do with the worm not functioning properly. Anybody know anything about this?
Great videos!! Just found your videos. Have u ever tried to pour the all the footings with the first truck? I find by pouring the footing first you don't have as bad of a wet spot when power troweling. Just a thing to try. We can all learn a little from each other. Keep up the great videos
It would take 3 times as long to pour with a wheelbarrow. Waste is about 1/2 yard of concrete. Plus both my guys have hurt their backs wheeling concrete, it's not worth it. Much easier to pump.
I was a Finisher for 30 years and find it hard to believe you're getting that floor that flat. That's almost a Super Flat floor .. Getting that using Conventional methods is almost impossible
Tip of the day, get rid of 2” edgers, drop the music. Is a 12’blade or a 14’ blade the best, would a 10’blade be two small.... I’m going to say I’ve poured over 5000 floor, I doubt if I ever got one within a 1/16” of a inch which would give you a 1/8” Tolerance. I congratulate you that in my book is extremely good. If someone would call me up and say they have a puddle of water on the floor I tell them through a nickel in there and see if the Buffalo drowns. If they say he drowned I say thanks for letting me know we’ll work on that and do better next time.
Looks like you have some retarders in concrete reduced water. I put level mounds in using laser, lay edge beam 300mm wide to my level mounds, another about 3-4m wide another beam, about 3/4 way done i then do another beam, so on, concrete doesn't dry out, tamp/float from my semi drying beams. By using laser get variation about +/- 8mm, about what I get from non readymix, using concrete 1 bag mixer.
You had me, until you said 1/16 of an inch. I don't care how good you are dude, I've been doing this s*** my whole life, and I don't care how good you think you are oh, but to mislead the audience in telling us your slab is within 1/16 of an inch, LMFAO, good luck with that buddy LOL!
There's no need for rebar in a house floor that's inside a foundation. The concrete is 3500 psi with fibermesh reinforcement. It has sawed contraction joints to spec. rebar is overkill for a floor like this, it only has foot traffic.

its an art this working in tandem, you and your crew has it nailed down.
just got a vibra screed 2 and get to use it Monday. they are back savers for sure. question do you prefer the non orbital floats? i notice your not using them.
Your team is very professional, the floor looks absolutely level
We strive for perfection!!
what I see as very unprofessioal is that there is no insulation installed against the walls to let the slab extend! This is an obligation!
How do you keep the power screed from sinking? I’ve used mine a handful of times and it always seems like one or both ends will sink down a little bit. I have a Marshall town with a 12’ board.

Love the music! Being concrete over 50 years.
Thank you
What hand towels would you usually use on a job, cheers, great videos
Maybe a weird question to you, but if you power screed and bull float how important is troweling and what does troweling do in that case
Like watching a well orchestrated symphony.
Thank you!

Does bull floating right after you screed buy you more time? Or was it just ready to float?
they make a plastic strip that you embed in the slab for the control joints? have you ever used it ?
Do you have to adjust the pitch of the Vibra screed much while you are using it?
not only a contractor but also a DJ haha... great work. I enjoy your vids
Thank You
Did you have to vibrate the concrete first or the vibra screed does that job too?
It would be awesome to pour a slab with no mesh or steel in it . In Australia the only time we do that is on a gutter 👍 that’s good guys 👌🤙🏻🎥
It is awesome. Mostly on house floors though. Inside a frost wall there's no need for mesh or rebar unless it's structural. Makes the pour go easy.

Great video! Do you trust the vibra screed the same as a screed board to not leave humps and dips? Is it as accurate? Thanks! I learn a lot from you!
At first we didn't, but as we got better using it we do now. We don't use it on floors that have a slope, just flat floors.

Can you use these on sloped concrete?
What is the lazar you said to use
DO YOU NEED REBAR OR FABRIC REBAR ON THIS PROJECT
Can you ride a vibra screed on top of your form boards along the edges as you pour a slab?
I'm here in Ireland,love your videos, great work,if I was younger I'd ask you for a job,is 57 to old😢
Haha, no, not to old. I'm 58.
Love my vibro screed,,,, my back and shoulders love it even more.
What slump do you use for use with your power screeding?
We pour around a 6 slump.
where is the rebar or cables? what kind of slab is this? is it common for basements to not have reinforcement? nice video
It has fibermesh in the concrete for reinforcement, no need for rebar inside a foundation wall like this if the sub-base is installed and compacted properly.
Cables are used in suspended parking structure s
He did that basement above with mesh

how do you know the areas are level in all directions (not flat) without using a laser screed?

Sounds ok.
@@MikeDayConcrete why only ok.
What kind of slump do you prefer when using a vibra-srcreed?
Very nice to see the wet screed struck by hand. Using the vibra strike for screed line is hack.
Yes I agree
What brand vibrascreed do you prefer
I'm using the shockwave currently. It's from Marshalltown.
Hi Mike,
Do you use vibrascreed for exterior pours or strictly interior? Love your channel and no bs
Thanks, Paul
If it 's a large "flat" exterior pour I do. Why do you ask?

I've used the ScreeDemon from MBW this year. It's been really good, I like that one.
Thank you sir.

They're both good, my guys prefer the bull float

Just experience and practicing. It's easy after a while.
Do you not have to have solid edges to run the screed? I see you are using the level instead of grade stakes.
No we don't, You can just "wet" screed it
What brand is your power screed?
I currently use two brands now. The Shockwave my Marshalltown and The Screedemon from MBW, Inc.

The video is sped up, so the vibrascreed would sound like a hornets nest
Music?? Ah, now I'm forced to mute and I won't know when to un-mute.

lolololol again 1/16 of a inch NO WAY id love to be the one running a stringline to see that floor lolol
Exactly
Of course it won't withing a 16th if your using a strong line to check. String lines sag
Check that with a laser. Bet its not 16th in the whole slab but maybe 16th in 10' not hard for a 16th in 10'
Music off please
