- New friend Ryan and Jim talk about all the places one receives an education in music ... institutions and bus lounge interventions. Huh, Institutions and Interventions kind of sounds like a good name for an album. Dibs.

Tom DeLonge!
I read Jimmy Eat World played his wedding years back.
Episode IV was Tom and his wifes song. i think 1st dance at the weeding!?
We need more Yellowcard in our lives.
I would imagine at some point they will get back together. Would be dope af if they came back with the ocean ave line up.
Yes!! Ryan & Yellowcard were what got me IN to rock music. Literally the best guest you could've gotten. So excited for this
Yellowcard is the one pop punk, punk rock band with chill out vibes and have they iconic like a violin
I kinda love Jim's reaction to having influenced half his guests 😄
😝
WRK: "key of this in that tuning etc"
Jim: " I like your funny words magic man"
Jimmy and Yellowcard are literally my definitive, defining, music - soundtrack to my entire life since 2001 - how these two didn't cross paths more often, I would give all the money in the world to see these two together on stage, both incredible! Great show to see these two together, love it :)
Jimmy Eat World and Yellowcard co-headling a tour would be nothing short a lifelong dream
*MR. ONLY ONE*
*SIR OCEANUS AVENUELIUS*
Been a fan of Ryan and Jim for over a decade. Amazing to see you guys grow so much over the years and become wiser. Especially at your craft.
Andrew McMahon (Something Corporate - Jack's Mannequin) would be an excellent guest/interview. You could discuss the lyrics from his song Konstantine where he says, "It's to Jimmy Eat World and those nights in my car, when the first star you see may not be a star." Please and thank you :)
That'd be great - 'Everything In Transit' is absolutely amazing.
That was the best thing ever, thanks for sharing Ryan & James (jimmy). I couldn't stop listening!
I loved this. Yellowcard and Jimmy Eat World are my two all-time favorite bands. These two men need to write songs together.
Absolutely love this podcast. May I suggest Claudio Sanchez and Dustin Kensrue for future shows. Both would be great guests. Thanks Jim.
All of these have been incredible. Hey Jim, if the music thing doesn’t work out, you have a bright future in Podcasting!
Forever requesting Hayley Williams to be interviewed by youuuuuuu
I second this
@@Calebeqz i third this.
alissa white gluz would be more interesting
Bro talking about not being able to sing and play certain parts makes me feel so better about myself
Hell yeah! Love me some Yellowcard and Ryan Key
Yessssss!!!! Two of my favorite song writers!! Stoked for this!
When you lean fwd, your ring light is flagged by the monitor and gives you that dreamy eye-light like in that Seinfeld episode. Check out Fred from Taking Back Sunday for a guest. His new channel has some great melodic songwriting samples, tons of tour/recording stories, and he's a great on-air personality. In the shed with fred or something.
Im so glad that I found these. I love it.
This was awesome! I love this podcast, Jim! keep em coming :D
Bro literally the front men of my two favorite bands
Yellowcard got me through my teens, Jimmy Eat World getting me through adulthood
MR. WAYAWAY
Thank you Jim! Awesome interview!

Wow this interview addressed every problem I was having with my music, really makes me feel like my biggest concerns weren't dumb
Wonderful
Good one Jim! Peace and Love to you. Thanks for doing these! I would love to do an Acoustic project with you.
Great interview
great guest!
You should talk to Fred Mascherino!
That's like two polite people being polite for 40 minutes
haha I literally just wrote this as well haha
@@darrenthetuber743 it’s perfect 😂
^^^ I heavily agree
Hell yeah!
Now that you two are buds, may I kindly suggest you do this crazy world a favor and co-write some alt rock together. Seriously, two of my all-time favs. Thanks for doing this interview.
I wish Jim would do a mix of one of my songs. It'd be great to have a set of genius ears on it. Great to hear from Ryan. Think you both rock.
Jimmy eats world really touched me when I was in my teens wish I known that they had there own RUclips channel podcast 😃
Went all the way to Milton Keynes to the green day concert just to see you guys live watch you then leaved 😂 god that was a hot day 😂

Aha I wish y’all could’ve nerded out on some Star Wars and do an EpisodeIV did a mini deep dive off static aha. After the reimagining songs acoustically solo really made me think of when I see Anthony Green live performing his songs in a new fresh way which are even more intimate and emotional that way when he performs them! Hope to have him on here soon!
Funny hearing them talk about the magic which is parallel compression lol
Please, interview to Good Charlotte, that'd be nice
Claudio Sanchez...? :)
This was a really good episode. Thanks, Jim! :)
It would be awesome to see Mat Kerekes from Citizen or Secondhand serenade on here.
Name dropped Goleta native Ryan Mendez one minute in. Nice!
This was really good episode somehow i missed it
YOU ARE MY ONLY ONNEEEE
Travis Clark would be cool. They started we the kings after seeing you guys.
sufjan stevens would be a great guest
Yes! Please do this Jim! Sufjan is mysterious as hell, would love to know about his process.
jims video quality is always shitting on everybody lolz
Oh wow I didn’t realize Jim went to college in flagstaff. Small world!
OMG YES
I’d LOVE to know what the fuzz is on “Lights and Sounds”
I can't imagine Jim reads these, but for whoever's in the loop, and can relay this message... TELL JIM TO DO INTERVIEWS WITH PEOPLE FROM THE BANDS HE ENJOYED PLAYING/TOURING WITH.
Jake Ewald from Slaughter Beach, Dog would be the dream
i really hope that he gets Anthony Raneri from bayside. i think that would be so sick. lol
I wish more guests would ask Jim questions as well..
Ryan, you need to update those base traps in the corner...that egg-crate foam doesn't do anything, lol.
keep the nerd stuff coming!
Chris Conley of saves the day next!! Pretty pleeease!
Jade Puget as a guest please?
Craig Owens of Chiodos/D.R.U.G.S. would be awesome!
I know some musicians that are absolutely amazing just the best guitar players in my area can play anything perfectly they are better then most professional musicians that are in very successful bands they just are that good but the problem is they can’t write music that anyone would ever want to listen to then someone like myself that is not the best guitar play, limited music theory knowledge but can write good music. I remember one song we were recording the one guitar player and the studio engineer said “you can’t do that it’s out of time” but I said let’s just try it and it sounded great it added some feeling to that part the another part “you can’t do that note it’s out of key” again I said let’s try it and it sounded great because of the feeling of the song in that part one note in the middle of a phrase was out but made it more dramatic so these guys that are professionally trained don’t get experimental it’s like breaking the law to them but because I don’t know that everything is game there aren’t any rules.
you should interview Chad from New Found Glory
fuck. i need a new chair now.
Kinda crazy he can’t afford to live in la for a year. It might be off topic but him should talk about the music business and what deals to look out for and what to be observant of. So many musicians get screwed . Song writers need to know about that too.
Next Dylan Mattheisen
Get Nate barcalow of Finch on here or Bert McCracken
when ya gonna get dylan brady on here eye.emoji
If you could get Billie Joe Armstrong to swing by and chat, that'd be so cool.
No, Joe is too busy.
Jim, Tom Delonge next?
tom delonge, derek sanders, deryck whibley PLS
Shawn Milke.
I remember meeting Ryan at warped tour in Alaska about 5 years ago. I remember being super excited to meet one of my rock hero’s, only to be completely disappointed by Ryan’s shitty, and dismissive attitude!
He’s such a welcoming and genuinely nice guy. One time after a show in Winnipeg we asked his manager if we could meet him and his manager came back to say Ryan invited us on the tour bus to chat and then after talking he invited us out across the street to hang with the rest of the band. All of this while he was really sick and the crowd not being great during the show. More than once he had talks with us at the bar after shows just hanging out. He’s a great dude. Can’t judge someone based on one meeting, you don’t know what they had going on at that time or what they were going through in their personal life that day.
@@BentleysMusic Totally. I guess that’s why they say to never meet your hero’s
I've always heard the same! So this is not just your experience.
question for anyone who’s watched this already: do they talk about the juiceworld lawsuit?
Nah
They should. Think it's shitty they're still going after it
Don’t really talk about anything
@@ThatBlindGuy247 They dismissed the case back in July.
@@jjhoy5809 oh okay. Nevet saw anyone mention it
I wonder what ryans wife is up too
I think they've been separated for a while. She models and sings in a band now and does social media influencing
of course there are idiotic juice comments here too.
just stop, they dropped it. no point beating a dead horse anymore.
Ryan Key killed Yellowcard
How?
listen to the recent Story of the Year podcast and be convinced otherwise
Quite the opposite.
I think the shifting tides of popular music killed off Yellowcard much more than anything Ryan did. Rock and pop punk are nowhere near as popular as they once were. Yellowcard came around in the early 2000’s, a punk rock renaissance. That time has passed and many bands which did so well back then have found their fan base dry up. Those fans got older and moved on with their lives. A younger generation looking for the same music or something similar to fill that void haven’t come along to back fill it. Some bands have found some sticking ability by evolving or finding some niche, but many of them just moved on to the next part of their lives when the crossroads of “Do I do something else so I can live comfortably and predictably, or do I try to keep the dream of being in a rock band alive?” Forced them to decide. It’s just a tough gig these days. Times have changed.
@@nmbr1ctrman After their 2012 album, at least according to the other yellowcard members and ryan himself, Ryan was interested in evolving Yellowcard's sound. He wanted to sound more like coldplay and use them as inspiration. However, that turned off not only long standing members of the band who were essential to the creative process, like LP, but yellowcard's core fans who liked them for their ocean avenue, rough landing holly, and paper walls rockn roll... in the end, his attempt to "evolve the band" just killed it. No hate towards Ryan, seems like a decent fellow and many others have tried to evolve their sound and failed, but yeah ryan key killed yellowcard.
Can’t watch this dude he sued juicewrld.
lawsuits like those are normally made by the label acting as if they are doing it on behalf of the artist. Something to note is that Yellowcard was already disbanded a couple of years prior to that case so its highly unlikely it was done by any of the actual band members.
I've lost all respect for Yellowcard after the whole juice wrld BS.
Huh? Juice world?
@@J-WOT they sued a rapper for having a similar vocal delivery on a song, and the continued with the lawsuit after the rapper died. The wanted 15 million. Crazy

@@CheapskateMotorsports but they have expressed that they personally feel its appropriate. i do know that labels usually push this sort of thing forward. it unfortunately cant be put solely on the label it seems.
@@joakimjankila2491 do you have a link to a statement I can read? All the articles I saw on this described Yellow card the party and not any individual members from the band, which can be widely open to interpretation to mean anything from the lead singer to a lawyer representing the band in court.
