First snow in the midwest can be crazy. I've seen winters where it's green until the end of january, I've seen heavy snow half way through october that's gone by Halloween. I've seen winters that are just near constant ice storms without much snow.
Last few years have been pretty tame though. I wouldn't mind a bit of a crazier winter cause this autumn has been hot as hell.

This is quite accurate for recent times! As a kid, there was always snow on the ground by Halloween in my area of Minnesota. Now it's definitely coming later and later. One year in the mid/late Twenty-Teens, we didn't see snow until December! Melting is happening earlier and earlier, too. Used to hang around well into May, but now sometimes it's gone by March. I hate snow, but I can certainly tell that it's deeply affecting things, as it's getting more droughty due to lack of snow during the winters.

@rainlupine-You aren't kidding! I live in Michigan and when I was child, back in the 60s, we had heavy snow by the 1st of November and it lasted till well into april or may. But, around the beginning of the 80s things began to change. We got less & less snow here.( on east side of state). And it would melt alot earlier, too. Last year was really, really weird weatherwise. Had one snow storm in middle of Nov, got warm & melted. Then way warm till middle of Feb., again snow storm again & again melted right away. I've lived here for close to 70 yrs and is the 1st time I've beem able to were shoes through all of December & most of Feb.!! Now, I'm woundering what this winter will be like.

Cfryling7781-I also, live in Michigan, but on the East side, close to the Saiginaw Bay. We rarely get lake effect snow here. But, the west side is another matter. I had a sister who lived NorthWest of Kalamazoo. We visited her on several occasions, in the winter.( And you are correct, it sucks to drive in that lake effect snow! (Once went down there 2 days before Xmas to visit. Then Xmas Eve drove hrs to my other sister up north further. Unfortunately,my sister & boyfriend sent us through the back roads. Those roads around by her are very hillly & filled with alot of curves! Well, we were driving in whiteout spots every so often, in lake effect snow. Came around a bend and couldn't see the road for all the snow. When the whiteout cleared, we saw we were on the wrong side of the 3 lane highway we were on. And comming sraight at us was a semi truck! We barely were able to pull back in tp the other lane in time. It was white knockle driving the rest of the way! When we got to my other sisters, my younger sister called to see if we got there akay. We told her to nevet ever send us that way im winter!! Do, I know where you are coomming from, on lwke effect snow!

Shadows of normal stuff you don’t ever pay attention to become altered by the eclipse and was by far the most interesting aspect for me.

In South Jersey it's pretty darn rare to have a white christmas. Our first snow doesn't usually happen until January. Prior to that you might get some flurries or maybe a coating to an inch. Having the white stuff not come down until after the holidays is always a good thing in my book.
The Jet Stream seems to always land on something we call "The I-95 corridor" Year after year, most winters, oddly enough the jet stream hovers around this highway divide which can make or break snow fall in our area. Fingers crossed that the Jet Stream stays 20 miles higher than usual this year.

Hey there, @@dianebeier8379 I'm in 414, the dred urban center of Milwaukee, The Good Land. I've only been to the UP once, Copper Harbor to see the darkest sky around. I'd love to go back for the history one day and I can't imagine the lake effect snows up there

Thank you for sharing this ride. We are in that area often and prefer state roads over the interstate. Might tow our RV that way in 6 weeks when we are back in that area.

Although we got almost no snowpack last winter in MA, I think we made up for it w/heavy rainfall here in the NE (flooding everywhere). As a result, I'm totally okay w/a mild winter here and a later snowfall so I can keep surfing in warmer water through Dec.❄️

I live in Colorado in a weather anomaly. Rarely snows here and is usually very dry even in the winter and maybe especially in the winter. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

For the last few years in Dallas it has been happening at the beginning of the year. Which is perfect for me, new vacations roll in and I take off during snow days

As a Kansan I can say that we had our first white Christmas in 10 years last year and it was just a dusting. My niece and nephew have never really gotten to go sledding because we haven’t gotten enough for that in years. When I was a kid we had plenty of snow to do practically anything you wanted but these past like 10-12 years have really sucked for snow in Kansas.

I live in the mountain in Colorado. We haven't seen snow yet, but I'm ok with that honestly. Winter lasts a really long time up here.

You nailed it for KY. Estimated after 12/15 for first snow fall. It’s 12/18 and the first snow fall is currently happening.

I live in the eastern UP of Michigan and I am quite excited for a warmer winter. We get slammed up here in the Sault all the time, and it will be nice to have a bit of a break.
