I’m sorry for your loss. My mom passed 10 years ago and she often had us kids help in the kitchen which I loved! You are instilling great values and life skills in your kids lives. We didn’t have a TV when our kids were growing up and consequently they loved reading and playing out doors even later when they were introduced to TV’s and video games. Much healthier for them!

I have made enchilada sauce and you are right, it is so delicious but you idea of adding broth will kick it up a notch. It is awesome to see how calm your children are and how well they are working together. I agree 100% that your lifestyle contributes to how well your children are doing now and in the future but I also think that the way you and your husband work together as a team and you both seem laid back also contribute. Great job working with your children, I know first hand how hard it can be. I always enjoy your content and learning new things.

It is so important to teach our kids how to feed themselves real food. You are setting the path for healthy happy human beings. I respect parents that spend time with their kids doing practical things. Joy is in what you have, not in what you could have. Thumbs up mom! I am sorry for your loss. I wish you and your family wellness and love.

Best advice give plenty of time for cooking in the kitchen. I usually get snippy when dinner is late and my littles want to help. I need to do better at planning a "cooking time" so they aren't asking to help when i just don't have the time.

10:14 I have to say it was a little painful to see you pour the bean juices down the drain! They are my daughter’s favorite part of home cooked beans (cook with onion and garlic) salted and maybe a bit of butter! Good as a drink or in a soupy serving of beans by themselves or with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese 😋.
Love you making real food with your kids. I always felt so special and needed helping my mom in the kitchen and with laundry as a kid. Not until I was a parent did I realize what a gift my mom had given me. Now I know I slowed her down, but she never let me know that! 🥰
So when my daughter was growing up she did everything with me. That’s where the real life education and love happens! Oh the memories and the great conversations. We still are so close. All 3 generations. Now my daughter is expecting. So excited to be a grandma!

As they get older make sure you teach them how to put out grease fires. My kids became completely self sufficient cooking quite early and were able to cook unsupervised by about 12 or 13. The oil caught fire one day and my 13 year old responded - exactly correctly. Which was good as my wife and I were not home yet!

I taught myself how to cook. Later I remembered some things I "caught" from watching my mom cook. I wasn't allowed to be part of meal making. I can understand the desire and frustration of inviting the littles into the kitchen/cooking. From having 6 littles myself (now grown), it might more enjoyable and a better teachable moment, for you to just have 1 child helper each week. Wish I'd had an elder share some wisdom with me back then. Make it easier on yourself, while imparting your teaching 1:1.

Oh my goodness, my prayers are with you my dear. I was always a person that didn’t want anybody even in my kitchen. Unfortunately I did not teach my daughter to cook. I did try a couple of times and she took one look at the meatloaf I was preparing and said oh my goodness I don’t know if I’ll ever eat meatloaf again. And promptly left the kitchen.
I wish now I could go back and change things but it’s too late. Thank God for your patience. He is a mighty God. It would take his patience for me to have a kid in the kitchen. Lol lol.

Oh, I'm so very sorry for your loss. It is hard and an indescribable kind of pain and emptiness at the same time. Time helps with healing, but as with all grave injuries, there will be a scar, sore and tender at first, but more bearable as time passes and you make the adjustment.
You have honored her all along by incorporating your happiest memories of time spent with her during *your* childhood into your children's childhoods. You will be able to see her live on through them and the parts of her you share.
Wishing you peace and loving remembrance. 🌷🩷🌷

I just had to share what I learned in an article (from a very reputable source) about eating processed foods. It said that a mental health diagnosis has just been created for people eating this kind of diet. All of the studies showed that those eating these foods have a much higher risk of depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. My husband is a high school teacher (a calling that he followed leaving the business world 27 years ago) and the food he sees the kids' eating is very alarming. Mostly fast food and junk food. And he has seen a rise in mental health issues with his students over the years.
Fortunately, our four grandchildren eat a diet very similar to yours! They just moved, so they had to give up their chickens, but they buy raw milk and have found resources for farm raised ingredients. My 9 year old cooks dinner often, and the rest are in training. They just visited, and my 3 year old 'helped" me a lot in the kitchen, cracking eggs, pouring in ingredients etc. I know we created wonderful memories!
Thank you for sharing your philosophy concerning food. It is such an important message that could be life changing!
PS I am SO sorry to see that your mom just passed away. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
