    Nadja is greek, she even swears in greek in a couple of episodes. We use that name (although it's pretty rare) and pronounce it nad-ya without a j, so that's probably the right way

      I don't know if the differences are so big that they constitute a deliberate choice or running gag, the "dj" sound is kinda difficult and most English speakers would not be sure between the hard and soft J sound. Spoken as someone with a more difficult and unusual name, people are just .....like that sometimes. But sure, I could be wrong.

    Her full name is Nadja of Antipaxos. Antipaxos is an island in the very northwest of Greece, so it's most likely that she either spoke Greek or Albanian in life. Albanian uses a "y" sound for its "j"s, so if she spoke Albanian her name would be closer to "Nad-ya" or "Na-di-a". If she spoke Greek, it would be highly dependent on dialect, but it would probably be closer to "nad-cha" or "nad-zha".

  • @Jhud69

    The pronounciation is funny to me, I know she is Greek-Romani but nadja overall means "hope" in some slavic languages and should be pronounced nad-ya. However, in polish the word is "nadzieja" and sounds much closer to nad-ja, but is missing an "e" sound.

    • @thatwildwolf
      @thatwildwolf 2 года назад

      Then again, if I, Polish, saw the name Nadja with no prior context, I would probably say it nad-ya, not nad-ja
