I think the problem with that is it would make queens not want to do well in lip syncs, as snipping someone puts a target on your back. I do hope they do give each charity like 5k or smth in yhe finale though because im pretty sure Plastique and Shannel have won almost nothint despite both slaying
Maybe runner up gets less money than the winner of the lip sync. It's crazy that Plastique has won four challenges but doesn't have a dime to show for it. I feel like the badges will be cashed in later.
Absolutely! It's the only thing that can convince some huge talents to come back to show. And a season without elimination should be filled with queens that can perform exceptional at most challenges. Not one or two like in this AS.
I think non-elimination works for any 'themed' all stars. i wish they'd given this season a tagline 'All Stars 9: All Charity' or something. then the next non-elimination could be 'All Stars 11: All Legends' or whatever. by not having a tagline they've made the format changes too messy.
I will say that it at least gives all the cast a chance to do all the challenges. I've seen a few season where people had been like "this person would've done well if they'd have made it to this challenge, but they won't because they were eliminated before that". One example is Scarlet Envy, who many people thought had it in her to do well on Snatch Game. On both of her first two seasons, she was eliminated before Snatch Game (they also did it strangely late into the season on AS6). Then she did it on UKVSTW2, and... she did really well, arguably even being worthy of getting a Top 2 placement. So in that way, seeing the entire cast do all the challenges, and seeing which ones they excel and flop at is fun to see. I mean, we may not have seen Plastique do well in the roast if she'd have been eliminated at Snatch Game of Love, since she was the worst one at that.
@@nc5809 it's literally had drama... I feel like y'all have this headcanon and aren't letting it go regardless of what's actually happening. The openers of the episodes have been drama filled and so have been the cuttings. Roxxxy fought Angeria and Vanjie, Mik was just upset just this last one because Angeria made a cutthroat decision, the whole click debacle is the reason Shannel doesn't have a badge and she started it. It's also the reason Roxxxy has 4 badges. It really hasn't been boring, and it has way more drama than AS7 ever did
I still think bttm placements should still be a thing on no elimination seasons like this since the clear bttm two are getting good critiques just to fit the narrative of a good feel season. Having them lose a badge/not being able to win a badge for the next week brings a lot more stakes in the competition. Like an example Nina on a regular season would’ve been read for filth for what she made in the ball but Michelle said she “liked it” like excuse me no she wouldn’t. Like I knew going into this seasons certain queens would struggle in specific challenges and would still get praise with no negative critiques being aired out.
I just feel bad for Shannel because it feels like she’s kind of getting shafted, and while I love Roxxxy, Plastique, Mik and Angeria, it feels like they’re getting way more screen time.
But in challenges, she really doesn't shine that much. Her runways though and her mug are totally great with exception of her design garment that was a mess

One of my biggest issues with drag race at this point is that nowhere online can you just like a queen or have a normal conversation. You comment on an IG post saying you liked Jorgeous's roast, and 100 Plastique fans are sending you hate for that. Anything Roxxxy and Nina do is almost always immediately hated, while a few other queens fanbases (especially Plastqiue, though i love her) are just so toxic and get mad at you saying they shouldn't have won everything.
Here's my tip to enjoy Drag Race: step away from the fandom. Comment with your friends who also watch if you have them, and if you make a comment on a public social media post, turn off notifications (it sucks you can't do that on Instagram, but I just block the people saying nasty things and keep going with my life).

I think a small way to improve the stars/badges point system and make it more interesting is to have different kinds of badges. Give out bronze badges worth 1 point for mini-challenge wins, silver badges worth 2 points for being in the top 2, then the winner of the lip sync gets to choose between upgrading their newly acquired silver badge to a gold badge worth 3 points or gifting a bronze badge to another queen.
For me, this is the fashion season. All the girls are really setting the bar high with their fashion especially plastique, gottmik and vanjie. I have seen a considerable amount of improvement in Nina's fashion so I also commend her. Every time plastique, Gottmik and Vanjie comes out of that runway I gasp.
The season has been fine - but a BIG criticism I have for it that I feel no one is talking about enough is the fact that NO ONE has been blocked from a badge in Top 2 after getting snipped. It's why I'm not really liking Roxxxy vs Angie as a storyline that much, cuz all this infighting of "you're playing a different game from me" and the dramatics- isn't actually amounting to anything cuz no one is actually making each other lose badges over it. I feel like I'm alone in this opinion but that's how I've been seeing things.

I feel like they could improve the AS format by doing half non-elimination, half elimination. You get to see all the queens for the first 5-6 episodes and then as the competition starts to head towards the finale, the stakes are raised and it’s the usual AS elimination format up to the finale. Maybe winning challenges or lipsyncs in the first half could also have some kinda benefit going into the second half of the season too. Also, they could have learned from the queens in AS7 and actually have some kind of secret thing going on when a person gets cut.
Yes I've been thinking the same thing! Even just making the first 3 episodes (but preferably about half of them) non-elimination could be the perfect balance for All-Stars.
Agreed. I love Shannel, Vanjie and Jorgeous, but it's not their time. Nina could surprise us but it seems unlikely. Gottmik is doing well overall, but based on the plagiarism and weird behavior after the roast, I don't see him making the finale because he's too in his head.

personally i find the roxxxy vs. angeria storyline a bit tired. the fact it's the main storyline just shows that the producers had very few compelling narratives to choose from. vanjie could've had the shangela arc but came in and underperformed in challenges. roxxxy could've gone full villain but is just being pretty level-headed. jorgeous/nina/gottmik/plastique lowkey contribute nothing to the story. i think that's why they aren't throwing shannel a bone. they're desperate for narratives. not that shannel has deserved a win, but they could have given her the mini challenge. they're banking on a meltdown bc they need something to work with lmao
One thing I’m scared of is they’ll do the same bs 3 badge talent show like on AS7 and one of Roxxxy, Plastique or Angeria will get robbed of the top 3 because from what we’ve seen so far, they SHOULD be the finalists of the season.
I think non-elimination would work better if only the lip-sync winner got a badge, or something like that. I want the format to stick around for All-Stars, I just think it should be refined a little. I really love this season and the format, cause I always hate seeing queens go home on All-Stars. Also, I don't get complaining about the fact that the queens get to show themselves to the world for an entire season. It's better for the queens, and we get to see such a high level on drag and see the queens do all the challenges.
Agreed, in the beginning I was skeptical about the non elimination, but I think the issue is not the fact that queens are not eliminated, but how they do it. Money for charity is nice of course, but I think that not giving money to queens, make the season kinda slow.
I do want to point out that after All Stars 8, many Ru Girls seemed to not be interested at competing on an All Stars season due to the same reason that keeps the fans excited: The elimination format. The pressure of being eliminated got the best of them to the point that on All Stars 8, we see Heidi quitting the show and Kahanna almost quitting the show as well, hence making them stay until the end will make the queens interested at competing due to the added exposure that they get when they are always on the tv. As much as I wanna agree about this format being just for this year, I fear that it might be the format that the production would pursue in the future. Hopefully they can find a great middle ground between keeping the fans happy and the queens happy during the filming process.
I have started to just skip most of the episode and watch the main challenge and the runways. Because let’s be real, if we didn’t have some pretty excellent runways this season, what else would we have? I’m glad people are liking this season. I’m just so bored.
The runways of Plastique and Mik are the only reasons I watch basically. It put it on while I paint and look up every so often but basically, I’m here for the runways of those two lol

I think it’s the worst season in a long time. There are NO STAKES. It’s all pointless. The cast have zero chemistry together. One queen can’t even be bothered to learn the words for a lip sync.
I'm honestly not here for competition, it's cool and it's a climax for every episode, but I'm here for the queens. I'm happy to see them presenting their art and performance.
I really don’t get the lukewarm reaction to this season. It’s a really talented and charismatic cast, stellar performances across all episodes, some entertaining drama and really “feel good” moments.
People say AS8 is worse than AS9, but I disagree. This season has been such a bore, and it actually made me feel the Drag Race saturation has settled in. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m fine not being able to watch the episode and just watching the recap videos on YT is sufficient for me. And let’s not get started with Untucked. At this point, WOW is just out there making mediocre content for their streaming service and it impacted the quality of Drag Race. Gone are the days when competition is prioritized over the reality show aspect of the show, which is why the earlier winners are still the best in the business. But I understand they have to milk the franchise while Ru still has the energy, and they’re forcing on us these mediocre seasons until the show finally dies
this is a very good season, i don't think it will be the most re-watchable season but i genuinely been having a good time watching each episode. i feel that this cast is very dynamic and that the queens have interesting relationships to follow , which what was lacking in seasons like AS8 or AS5 where the cast did not have good chemistry. The Roxxy/Angeria storyline is good, it's a softer hero vs villain storyline that is done in a way where you can really root for one queen without feeling some type of way regarding the other, personnally i love them both so much and just want to see them battling it out in a final lipsync during the finale. Then comes the runway, i feel like this season really change the game when it comes to that, especially with Plastique and Gottmik packages, but i do hope that it won't put too much pressure on the queens preparing for the future seasons. We also have some very touching moments between Ru and the queens and that is because you can tell that this cast is composed of his favourites, there is an endearing aspect about Ru this season, she really feels like the mother of these queens and it helps the watching experience when it feels like Ru is very invested in the season and its cast (wich was lacking for the vs the world season for example when you can really tell that he doesn’t really care about the cast except for 1 or 2 queens). Overall i think the reception of this season is harsher than it should be, but this is because there is a toxic trend in the fandom recently in which it feels like people are lacking objectivity and just want to call the new seasons bad/rigged/over-produced for anything . The fans now are just so quick to hate on the seasons and that's so weird to me because the level of entertainment is still there , also the generalisation of pre-season spoilers is very negative for the shows and WOW should do something about it because it has too much influence on the fan perception of what is actually being shown in the episodes. I honestly don't think they would've done the whole charity concept if it wasn't for all stars 8. There was so much critique on it that it feels like the producers were scrambling to find a way to bring people back to all stars. I think that's why there's so many fan favorites and "classic" girls (Roxxxy and Shannel). I think they changed the format to bring in those girls too as literally no none wanted to do all stars anymore (ahem, AS8). I like the charity idea but it kinda sucks that it was made to make up for a lesser season.
i do feel like a charity season shouldnt have eliminations but also. it shouldnt be a full season ? or like even all-stars ? idk it feels like something they should have as like a web series or something because it jusy feels weird to have them all be non winners in a non elim season but seriously of it was a web series that they shot to get a little bit more time between the all stars seasons it would be fun or like. have it be one group of queens per ep idk like one of my favorite parts of dr is the runways but it takes a little bit of the meat away, the way they did this

I feel like the stakes for AS9 are lower than on AS7. Yes with AS7 there were also no eliminations, but the queens were competing to be the winner of all winners. That is kind of fierce, so personally, I was really invested in them competing for this important title. But for AS9, because they are competing for charity you kind of forget that they are also competing for the crown. And then also, getting snipped just feels superficial because no one has not recieved a badge because of that, which did happen on AS7 a lot.
I said this in my own video about this season but the snipping hasn't had much of an effect so far on the season, nobody has been stopped from winning because of snipping
They’re gonna do the three star twist one last time but give them to Plastique and Angeria just so they can spit on Shannel one last time I’m sure of it
My biggest issues for me is the huge range of screentime- I feel like I'm seeing so much more of Roxxxy, Angeria, Nina and Gottmik compared to the other 4 particularly Roxxxy and Angeria despite them both being the most entertaining
What I hate most about this season is the treatment of Angeria. Being called delusional as if she hasn't been killing the entire season, Roxxxy being hypocritical and calling her dramatic during the snipping, all the jokes about her in the roasts... I'm not living.
i honestly think cast chemistry has been my biggest complaint for a while now. having several queens from one season (AS2, etc) helps with pseudo-alliances and storylines
Maybe if they didn’t eliminate for the first two eps - it makes it worthwhile for the cast cos everyone gets screen time and the audience gets a minimum amount of time for the first queen to go - but then we still have elimination stakes
someone said something similar to this on a different platform but having no bottom placements feels like there's nothing at stake and that queens should be able to lose badges if they under perform (but not the money they earned for their charity).
non elimination only works if there are badge pentalties like bottom 2 getting a badge taken away, even going into the negative.imagine a girl at 5 badges and another at -3 who has to work hard to get over 0 to even start making badges. that will rly light a fire under their ass instead of them jus havin fun n coastin cus they cant go home
The only two episodes that I liked in this season were the Paint Ball and the design challenge. It feels like the season is not delivering in terms of anything except the runways which have been consistently amazing as you mentioned
i just feel so bad for shannel. there were times where i really think she could have/ should have been in the top. and first the producers were just fucking with her trying to make her snap or get a jan type of thing but i feel like it just caused her to get discouraged and thus it caused her to struggle in the more recent challenges. especially with the non- elim format at this point i sort of feel like: Just put her out of her misery. shes stuck there and she knows shes not getting the crown, we know shes not getting the crown, and it just feels so disappointing that her storyline has ended up like this and its a case where i think shannel's carreer was totally fine not being on drag race in ten years, but now it sort of feels like an ongina thing where it looks like shes flopping now, despite on as1 proving that she had what it took to go the distence.
Hear me out; there was a season of the Real World\Road Rules challenge in the early 00s where the challengers all competed in each challenge and getting points each time, first place would get 10points, second place 8 points and so on. Halfway through the season, you had to have 20 points or were auto eliminated. So one season we could have 8 queens make it past the first purge and another season only 3 queens pass the purge. Imagine the drama leading up to the mid season purge when queens have to place a certain place or they won’t have enough points to move on to part two of the competition! This format would allow queens to show off AT least 1/2 a season but still keeps it competitive bc you need to make sure you’re placing high enough to reach the points needed to move on!
I dont fucking understand you all. The last season of all stars was boring and now we have all iconic queens. Yeah, there isn’t drama. But can’t you just enjoy have fun and be here for the TALENT? Next season can be a lot more dramatic, but no queen will have de fashion sense of Plastique, the nerve of Mik, the charisma of Roxie, or the hability of Vanjie to make me laugh. JUST ENJOY AND SHUT UP!

Well, it's time for one of mine humongous commentaries. Full disclaimer: I'm not a hateful person, aside to Vanda Miss Joaquim I'm not close to ANY queen from the whole Drag Race franchise, I'm just talking about them as characters from a TV show, not the human beings. I don't support hate, I don't spread hate, and I don't tolerate hate. As Madonna wouls say "I hate people that hate people". All Stars 6 is still my favorite All Stars season. All of the queens had some sort of redemption (aside from Jan, who's just used by production to create TV drama, alongside to Scarlet Envy), it was fun to watch, and I didn't get the double crowning of my dreams, but one of them was crowned and the other right after. Watching All Stars 7 was so frustrating because it was so clear the favoritism towards Jinkx and they pushed her win so hard, that it completely discouraged me to keep watching Drag Race. And hey, this isn't something mine, even the queens competing and Jinkx herself felt that way. So after that I didn't even bothwred watching All Stars 8 because I knew they would crown Jimbo. I didn't even bothered to watch my precious Heidi because I knew from rumors/spoilers she was going to quit. The only seasons I've watched this year were UKvsTW and AS9 now. I think the Drag Race viewers can be classified in 3 types: the ones who wants a balance between competition and reality tv, the majority; than the second larger group, the people who want to see reality tv and don't care that much about the competition; and the smallest amount, which I'm part of, the fans who doesn't care about reality tv and just want to see the competition. Coming from a country with a huge legacy of comedy and campy¹ queens, I loved seeing Tia's trajectory. I didn't know her because I don't watch DRUK, nor Hannah for the same reason - I watched the season because LGD and Marina Summers, and my drag sister watched because of Tia and Hannah; at the end, I was a new fan of Tia and Hannah and she was a new fan of LGD and Marina. Now I'm watching AS9 because of Roxxxy and Gottmik and I don't regret not even a bit: they're great, I know what to expect from them, and they deliver it. I want to see Mik's runways, and as a trans person myself, I'm still not over the Top Surgery Look, that was high class fashion art drag yes mawma. The Scream look, oh my goodness, I screamed. And Roxxxy, I know she's the old school body girl, turning looks that accentuates her sexiness, and being loud - and she's delivering it. There's an obvious unbalance between the queens: I see Angeria, Gottmik, Plastique and Roxxxy going full throttle for the crown. Nina's 100% isn't what we expect from Drag Race, let alone All Stars (I don't doubt she's great at musical theatre, in her live performances, it's just she doesn't match the exoectations of the tv show); Shannel is completely lost on what to do, and Jorgeous and Vanjie are just there to have a nice time with their charismatic personalities. This is not new, that happens every season, and I completely disagree: I don't see they just shutting down and not caring about the week's challenge because it isn't their forte, I don't see they turning back to their personal struggles and the competition. It's just that... It's not the edition main concern, and honestly, I live. I'm finally enjoying an All Stars season (which is my favorite product of the whole franchise) and having a good time. 1. "Campy" was used here as a close equivalent, because actually we call them "caricatas" (from "caricature"), because they are mostly hostesses and stand up comedians, they do goofy performances and music, it's very different from USian campy queens, but somehow similar.
I'm quite bored. I like these girls, but they aren't all strong enough to last an entire season. There are no interesting storylines, the drama seems forced, the lipsyns are weak, and it's becoming quite forgettable. I really think a non-elimination season is the only way they are getting girls to say yes to allstars now... but they really need to have some better stakes to keep this interesting. I don't even watch Untucked at this point, because what else is there to be said? It seems like everyone is out of steam at this point, I'm not excited for the finale.
I dont mind the non elimination, to be honest makes the queens more free to express themselves (imagine Gottmik “fishing” her make up to be more judge likeable. What I’m missing is … the charity. Like we know the organizations that are going to benefit but damn, at least a video from Travor Project with real cases to touch our hearts. I don’t know they are invisible.
Yeah it's hard to talk about it you refuse to engage with any criticisms. This is toxic positiveity. This season is tragic and needs to be called out as such.
I kinda like the smaller cast with the blocking and point system we get to focus on these artists. this is a feel good season as it kinda should be and the fact the drama is still in the workroom every filming day makes me happy. like if this is how All stars US/core turns into i wouldnt be mad, i like the spectacle of choosing who to block. this isnt the best season but i think logistically this is a good system if they choose to do so from now on and go by either a themed season or regular All stars.
yeah, I think they need to bring back eliminations for allstars, and Ru should take back the responsibility of elimination to take the stress out for the queens. Maybe if they want the queens to still have input there could be a vote and Ru could pick each week from the bottom 3 or something, that way there's still some drama of people wanting to know who voted for them, but no one is actively sending their mates home. The non elimination seasons are too stable, having a queen leave each week changes up the vibe of the workroom every week, without that its like... hanging out with the same ten workmates for weeks in a row. Fine. Not great though.
I'm sorry for the queens but indeed I feel bored and uninterested about this season. Since nobody's going home I have no interest in watching what happens, Since is All Stars I already know the queens and Since they also put the challenges and lipsyncs on youtube I dont have any reason more than little iconic scenes that pop up on Twitter. Another thing is that the drama/beef between Angeria and Roxxxy is meh bcs I do agree whit their options but... C'mon they should have do something like Angeria and blocking someone who might affect their point.

The badge format makes absolutely no mathematical sense and would never be able to give results without insane production interference which is what happened in AS7 and what is happening here. Only way you could solve it would be to go full Mario Party. But hey, they gave Jorgeous a badge for a random mini challenge so why not.
I used to look forward to my Friday night watch party, but lately I find myself wanting to do something else. I've haven't felt this way about Drag Race in 12 years.
Angeria and Roxxxy were my two favorite from the beginning. I was happy that Angeria won the first challenge but mad that she cut Roxxxy. I wish the two of them had created an alliance.
I’m sorry but to put it simply it’s boring. There’s no drama with the non elimination format. They literally took the competition out of competition reality tv show. If you do that you better have some GOOD reality to give us. Which this season doesn’t give either. It’s fun for all winners but for girls that are actually competing to win it gives me no reason to watch or care about what’s going to happen. Yes the looks are good but I can just watch Head To Toe if I want a recap on the good and bad looks.
In life, I’ve learn that people generally speaking, don’t like change. This non-elimination format works out well; people are just used to eliminations.

I don’t mind no elims on all stars cuz really, what we are watching are professional entertainers performing! The competition side of it is just a vehicle for the queens to show off their skills and personalities. So as long as the skill+personality is top tier, im happy.

What they're doing to Shannel is incredibly frustrating. They're not past committing obvious riggory, so I don't understand why they can't throw her a bone every now and again just to keep the narrative tension. It's 2/3 of the way through the competition and she still does not have a single badge, despite there being one or two instances you could argue she earned it. The fun in competition shows is wondering who will get to the end and it's been pretty clear for a while now who at least 3 of them will be. But with Shannel getting NOTHING, how is the audience supposed to maintain a sense of intrigue? She's taking it like a champ, cuz if I was her, I would've tapped out by now cuz they're not even entertaining the notion of her--it must suck to have your only storyline be "Oh I am in last place with seemingly no hope of redemption." Even if they pull some stunts like they did in AS7 and she suddenly is flush with badges, it'll feel even more undeserving. It's such a simple fix but production is playing favorites again.
i didnt love AS8 but it kept me watching AS9 feels like just nothing to me aside from the runways. ive let 3 episodes pass me by just looking at the challenge that gets uploaded to youtube and the runways becuase im not vibing with any of the workroom stuff.
The season is kind of boring, but entertaining, let's be honest. I watch this with my boyfriend, and last episode, we almost fell asleep because of the pacing and not much really happening, but we pulled through. The Ruby Snippers plot line kind of failed in the end. Everyone that was cut didn't even place the top 2 the following week, so what was the point? We have to wait and see if Angeria places the top 2 next episode and doesn't get her 4th badge. The season is alright so far, but if it's a 12-episode season, then it's almost over 🎉.
They have to stop doing all stars every year, it seems like the audience or the contestants have more to complain about every yearrrrrr No one is satisfied anymore
I hope at the end of the season each queen gets a somewhat big donation to their charities. It would be weird for a girl to go on and win no money for their cause.
If they can’t do a non elimination season they don’t get the good queens (most commentary channels have said for years that “queens will not want to hinder or halt their career to go to drag race just to get sent home first and possibly get a bad edit that will essentially kill their careers”) if you don’t get the good queens then you get a season 8 all stars where everyone wants to quit and then you still complain there is just no winning and I think the franchise is getting boring cause the storylines the villains and everything are on repeat and not special and different like how you can compare season 2 to season 5 it’s so different it’s like it’s a new show but the same comforts now it’s the same show over and over again while also being mass produced
Even if they don’t win the lipsync I feel they should get money for their charity just for being top 2
I think the problem with that is it would make queens not want to do well in lip syncs, as snipping someone puts a target on your back. I do hope they do give each charity like 5k or smth in yhe finale though because im pretty sure Plastique and Shannel have won almost nothint despite both slaying

Absolutely! It's the only thing that can convince some huge talents to come back to show. And a season without elimination should be filled with queens that can perform exceptional at most challenges. Not one or two like in this AS.
I think non-elimination works for any 'themed' all stars. i wish they'd given this season a tagline 'All Stars 9: All Charity' or something. then the next non-elimination could be 'All Stars 11: All Legends' or whatever. by not having a tagline they've made the format changes too messy.
I will say that it at least gives all the cast a chance to do all the challenges. I've seen a few season where people had been like "this person would've done well if they'd have made it to this challenge, but they won't because they were eliminated before that". One example is Scarlet Envy, who many people thought had it in her to do well on Snatch Game. On both of her first two seasons, she was eliminated before Snatch Game (they also did it strangely late into the season on AS6). Then she did it on UKVSTW2, and... she did really well, arguably even being worthy of getting a Top 2 placement.
So in that way, seeing the entire cast do all the challenges, and seeing which ones they excel and flop at is fun to see. I mean, we may not have seen Plastique do well in the roast if she'd have been eliminated at Snatch Game of Love, since she was the worst one at that.

Roxxxy fought Angeria and Vanjie, Mik was just upset just this last one because Angeria made a cutthroat decision, the whole click debacle is the reason Shannel doesn't have a badge and she started it. It's also the reason Roxxxy has 4 badges.

I still think bttm placements should still be a thing on no elimination seasons like this since the clear bttm two are getting good critiques just to fit the narrative of a good feel season. Having them lose a badge/not being able to win a badge for the next week brings a lot more stakes in the competition. Like an example Nina on a regular season would’ve been read for filth for what she made in the ball but Michelle said she “liked it” like excuse me no she wouldn’t. Like I knew going into this seasons certain queens would struggle in specific challenges and would still get praise with no negative critiques being aired out.

One of my biggest issues with drag race at this point is that nowhere online can you just like a queen or have a normal conversation. You comment on an IG post saying you liked Jorgeous's roast, and 100 Plastique fans are sending you hate for that. Anything Roxxxy and Nina do is almost always immediately hated, while a few other queens fanbases (especially Plastqiue, though i love her) are just so toxic and get mad at you saying they shouldn't have won everything.
Here's my tip to enjoy Drag Race: step away from the fandom. Comment with your friends who also watch if you have them, and if you make a comment on a public social media post, turn off notifications (it sucks you can't do that on Instagram, but I just block the people saying nasty things and keep going with my life).
I left the fandom after season 11 (back in 2019) and it was already like that, just with different queens. It's not new, unfortunately.

I think a small way to improve the stars/badges point system and make it more interesting is to have different kinds of badges. Give out bronze badges worth 1 point for mini-challenge wins, silver badges worth 2 points for being in the top 2, then the winner of the lip sync gets to choose between upgrading their newly acquired silver badge to a gold badge worth 3 points or gifting a bronze badge to another queen.

For me, this is the fashion season. All the girls are really setting the bar high with their fashion especially plastique, gottmik and vanjie. I have seen a considerable amount of improvement in Nina's fashion so I also commend her. Every time plastique, Gottmik and Vanjie comes out of that runway I gasp.

The season has been fine - but a BIG criticism I have for it that I feel no one is talking about enough is the fact that NO ONE has been blocked from a badge in Top 2 after getting snipped. It's why I'm not really liking Roxxxy vs Angie as a storyline that much, cuz all this infighting of "you're playing a different game from me" and the dramatics- isn't actually amounting to anything cuz no one is actually making each other lose badges over it. I feel like I'm alone in this opinion but that's how I've been seeing things.

I feel like they could improve the AS format by doing half non-elimination, half elimination. You get to see all the queens for the first 5-6 episodes and then as the competition starts to head towards the finale, the stakes are raised and it’s the usual AS elimination format up to the finale. Maybe winning challenges or lipsyncs in the first half could also have some kinda benefit going into the second half of the season too.
Also, they could have learned from the queens in AS7 and actually have some kind of secret thing going on when a person gets cut.

I think non-elimination would work better if only the lip-sync winner got a badge, or something like that. I want the format to stick around for All-Stars, I just think it should be refined a little. I really love this season and the format, cause I always hate seeing queens go home on All-Stars. Also, I don't get complaining about the fact that the queens get to show themselves to the world for an entire season. It's better for the queens, and we get to see such a high level on drag and see the queens do all the challenges.
Agreed, in the beginning I was skeptical about the non elimination, but I think the issue is not the fact that queens are not eliminated, but how they do it. Money for charity is nice of course, but I think that not giving money to queens, make the season kinda slow.
I do want to point out that after All Stars 8, many Ru Girls seemed to not be interested at competing on an All Stars season due to the same reason that keeps the fans excited: The elimination format. The pressure of being eliminated got the best of them to the point that on All Stars 8, we see Heidi quitting the show and Kahanna almost quitting the show as well, hence making them stay until the end will make the queens interested at competing due to the added exposure that they get when they are always on the tv. As much as I wanna agree about this format being just for this year, I fear that it might be the format that the production would pursue in the future. Hopefully they can find a great middle ground between keeping the fans happy and the queens happy during the filming process.
I have started to just skip most of the episode and watch the main challenge and the runways. Because let’s be real, if we didn’t have some pretty excellent runways this season, what else would we have? I’m glad people are liking this season. I’m just so bored.

I really don’t get the lukewarm reaction to this season.
It’s a really talented and charismatic cast, stellar performances across all episodes, some entertaining drama and really “feel good” moments.
People say AS8 is worse than AS9, but I disagree. This season has been such a bore, and it actually made me feel the Drag Race saturation has settled in. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m fine not being able to watch the episode and just watching the recap videos on YT is sufficient for me. And let’s not get started with Untucked. At this point, WOW is just out there making mediocre content for their streaming service and it impacted the quality of Drag Race. Gone are the days when competition is prioritized over the reality show aspect of the show, which is why the earlier winners are still the best in the business. But I understand they have to milk the franchise while Ru still has the energy, and they’re forcing on us these mediocre seasons until the show finally dies
this is a very good season, i don't think it will be the most re-watchable season but i genuinely been having a good time watching each episode. i feel that this cast is very dynamic and that the queens have interesting relationships to follow , which what was lacking in seasons like AS8 or AS5 where the cast did not have good chemistry. The Roxxy/Angeria storyline is good, it's a softer hero vs villain storyline that is done in a way where you can really root for one queen without feeling some type of way regarding the other, personnally i love them both so much and just want to see them battling it out in a final lipsync during the finale. Then comes the runway, i feel like this season really change the game when it comes to that, especially with Plastique and Gottmik packages, but i do hope that it won't put too much pressure on the queens preparing for the future seasons. We also have some very touching moments between Ru and the queens and that is because you can tell that this cast is composed of his favourites, there is an endearing aspect about Ru this season, she really feels like the mother of these queens and it helps the watching experience when it feels like Ru is very invested in the season and its cast (wich was lacking for the vs the world season for example when you can really tell that he doesn’t really care about the cast except for 1 or 2 queens).
Overall i think the reception of this season is harsher than it should be, but this is because there is a toxic trend in the fandom recently in which it feels like people are lacking objectivity and just want to call the new seasons bad/rigged/over-produced for anything . The fans now are just so quick to hate on the seasons and that's so weird to me because the level of entertainment is still there , also the generalisation of pre-season spoilers is very negative for the shows and WOW should do something about it because it has too much influence on the fan perception of what is actually being shown in the episodes.

I honestly don't think they would've done the whole charity concept if it wasn't for all stars 8. There was so much critique on it that it feels like the producers were scrambling to find a way to bring people back to all stars. I think that's why there's so many fan favorites and "classic" girls (Roxxxy and Shannel). I think they changed the format to bring in those girls too as literally no none wanted to do all stars anymore (ahem, AS8). I like the charity idea but it kinda sucks that it was made to make up for a lesser season.
All I will say about AS9 is that I need more Bruno.

I feel like the stakes for AS9 are lower than on AS7. Yes with AS7 there were also no eliminations, but the queens were competing to be the winner of all winners. That is kind of fierce, so personally, I was really invested in them competing for this important title. But for AS9, because they are competing for charity you kind of forget that they are also competing for the crown. And then also, getting snipped just feels superficial because no one has not recieved a badge because of that, which did happen on AS7 a lot.
I said this in my own video about this season but the snipping hasn't had much of an effect so far on the season, nobody has been stopped from winning because of snipping

My biggest issues for me is the huge range of screentime- I feel like I'm seeing so much more of Roxxxy, Angeria, Nina and Gottmik compared to the other 4 particularly Roxxxy and Angeria despite them both being the most entertaining
What I hate most about this season is the treatment of Angeria. Being called delusional as if she hasn't been killing the entire season, Roxxxy being hypocritical and calling her dramatic during the snipping, all the jokes about her in the roasts... I'm not living.

Maybe if they didn’t eliminate for the first two eps - it makes it worthwhile for the cast cos everyone gets screen time and the audience gets a minimum amount of time for the first queen to go - but then we still have elimination stakes

The only two episodes that I liked in this season were the Paint Ball and the design challenge. It feels like the season is not delivering in terms of anything except the runways which have been consistently amazing as you mentioned
i just feel so bad for shannel. there were times where i really think she could have/ should have been in the top. and first the producers were just fucking with her trying to make her snap or get a jan type of thing but i feel like it just caused her to get discouraged and thus it caused her to struggle in the more recent challenges. especially with the non- elim format at this point i sort of feel like: Just put her out of her misery. shes stuck there and she knows shes not getting the crown, we know shes not getting the crown, and it just feels so disappointing that her storyline has ended up like this and its a case where i think shannel's carreer was totally fine not being on drag race in ten years, but now it sort of feels like an ongina thing where it looks like shes flopping now, despite on as1 proving that she had what it took to go the distence.
At least Roxxxy is keeping with her "I'm not the raggedy heifer that I am when I'm with Detox and Alaska" narrative. Much better than Jaremi did. 😊❤
They should've included charity ambassadors for each queens chosen organisation , to give a face and an emotional connection to the task at hand.

Hear me out; there was a season of the Real World\Road Rules challenge in the early 00s where the challengers all competed in each challenge and getting points each time, first place would get 10points, second place 8 points and so on. Halfway through the season, you had to have 20 points or were auto eliminated. So one season we could have 8 queens make it past the first purge and another season only 3 queens pass the purge. Imagine the drama leading up to the mid season purge when queens have to place a certain place or they won’t have enough points to move on to part two of the competition!
This format would allow queens to show off AT least 1/2 a season but still keeps it competitive bc you need to make sure you’re placing high enough to reach the points needed to move on!
I dont fucking understand you all. The last season of all stars was boring and now we have all iconic queens. Yeah, there isn’t drama. But can’t you just enjoy have fun and be here for the TALENT? Well, it's time for one of mine humongous commentaries.
Full disclaimer: I'm not a hateful person, aside to Vanda Miss Joaquim I'm not close to ANY queen from the whole Drag Race franchise, I'm just talking about them as characters from a TV show, not the human beings. I don't support hate, I don't spread hate, and I don't tolerate hate. As Madonna wouls say "I hate people that hate people".
All Stars 6 is still my favorite All Stars season. All of the queens had some sort of redemption (aside from Jan, who's just used by production to create TV drama, alongside to Scarlet Envy), it was fun to watch, and I didn't get the double crowning of my dreams, but one of them was crowned and the other right after.
Watching All Stars 7 was so frustrating because it was so clear the favoritism towards Jinkx and they pushed her win so hard, that it completely discouraged me to keep watching Drag Race. And hey, this isn't something mine, even the queens competing and Jinkx herself felt that way. So after that I didn't even bothwred watching All Stars 8 because I knew they would crown Jimbo. I didn't even bothered to watch my precious Heidi because I knew from rumors/spoilers she was going to quit.
The only seasons I've watched this year were UKvsTW and AS9 now. I think the Drag Race viewers can be classified in 3 types: the ones who wants a balance between competition and reality tv, the majority; than the second larger group, the people who want to see reality tv and don't care that much about the competition; and the smallest amount, which I'm part of, the fans who doesn't care about reality tv and just want to see the competition.
Coming from a country with a huge legacy of comedy and campy¹ queens, I loved seeing Tia's trajectory. I didn't know her because I don't watch DRUK, nor Hannah for the same reason - I watched the season because LGD and Marina Summers, and my drag sister watched because of Tia and Hannah; at the end, I was a new fan of Tia and Hannah and she was a new fan of LGD and Marina. Now I'm watching AS9 because of Roxxxy and Gottmik and I don't regret not even a bit: they're great, I know what to expect from them, and they deliver it. I want to see Mik's runways, and as a trans person myself, I'm still not over the Top Surgery Look, that was high class fashion art drag yes mawma. The Scream look, oh my goodness, I screamed. And Roxxxy, I know she's the old school body girl, turning looks that accentuates her sexiness, and being loud - and she's delivering it.
There's an obvious unbalance between the queens: I see Angeria, Gottmik, Plastique and Roxxxy going full throttle for the crown. Nina's 100% isn't what we expect from Drag Race, let alone All Stars (I don't doubt she's great at musical theatre, in her live performances, it's just she doesn't match the exoectations of the tv show); Shannel is completely lost on what to do, and Jorgeous and Vanjie are just there to have a nice time with their charismatic personalities. This is not new, that happens every season, and I completely disagree: I don't see they just shutting down and not caring about the week's challenge because it isn't their forte, I don't see they turning back to their personal struggles and the competition. It's just that... It's not the edition main concern, and honestly, I live. I'm finally enjoying an All Stars season (which is my favorite product of the whole franchise) and having a good time.
1. "Campy" was used here as a close equivalent, because actually we call them "caricatas" (from "caricature"), because they are mostly hostesses and stand up comedians, they do goofy performances and music, it's very different from USian campy queens, but somehow similar.
Even with the favouritism, Jinkx still did the best one All stars 7 BY FAR
I'm quite bored. I like these girls, but they aren't all strong enough to last an entire season. There are no interesting storylines, the drama seems forced, the lipsyns are weak, and it's becoming quite forgettable. I really think a non-elimination season is the only way they are getting girls to say yes to allstars now... but they really need to have some better stakes to keep this interesting. I don't even watch Untucked at this point, because what else is there to be said? It seems like everyone is out of steam at this point, I'm not excited for the finale.
I dont mind the non elimination, to be honest makes the queens more free to express themselves (imagine Gottmik “fishing” her make up to be more judge likeable.
What I’m missing is … the charity. Like we know the organizations that are going to benefit but damn, at least a video from Travor Project with real cases to touch our hearts. I don’t know they are invisible.

I kinda like the smaller cast with the blocking and point system we get to focus on these artists. this is a feel good season as it kinda should be and the fact the drama is still in the workroom every filming day makes me happy. like if this is how All stars US/core turns into i wouldnt be mad, i like the spectacle of choosing who to block. this isnt the best season but i think logistically this is a good system if they choose to do so from now on and go by either a themed season or regular All stars.

yeah, I think they need to bring back eliminations for allstars, and Ru should take back the responsibility of elimination to take the stress out for the queens. Maybe if they want the queens to still have input there could be a vote and Ru could pick each week from the bottom 3 or something, that way there's still some drama of people wanting to know who voted for them, but no one is actively sending their mates home.
The non elimination seasons are too stable, having a queen leave each week changes up the vibe of the workroom every week, without that its like... hanging out with the same ten workmates for weeks in a row. Fine. Not great though.
I'm sorry for the queens but indeed I feel bored and uninterested about this season. Since nobody's going home I have no interest in watching what happens, Since is All Stars I already know the queens and Since they also put the challenges and lipsyncs on youtube I dont have any reason more than little iconic scenes that pop up on Twitter.
Another thing is that the drama/beef between Angeria and Roxxxy is meh bcs I do agree whit their options but... C'mon they should have do something like Angeria and blocking someone who might affect their point.

This was the WORST CAST to do non eliminations for especially for charity, because the girls would’ve given even BETTER Tv. Especially with how petty they already are ? I mean they really missed the mark with this concept
The badge format makes absolutely no mathematical sense and would never be able to give results without insane production interference which is what happened in AS7 and what is happening here. Only way you could solve it would be to go full Mario Party. But hey, they gave Jorgeous a badge for a random mini challenge so why not.
I used to look forward to my Friday night watch party, but lately I find myself wanting to do something else. I've haven't felt this way about Drag Race in 12 years.
Angeria and Roxxxy were my two favorite from the beginning. I was happy that Angeria won the first challenge but mad that she cut Roxxxy. I wish the two of them had created an alliance.
I’m sorry but to put it simply it’s boring. There’s no drama with the non elimination format. They literally took the competition out of competition reality tv show. If you do that you better have some GOOD reality to give us. Which this season doesn’t give either. It’s fun for all winners but for girls that are actually competing to win it gives me no reason to watch or care about what’s going to happen. Yes the looks are good but I can just watch Head To Toe if I want a recap on the good and bad looks.
In life, I’ve learn that people generally speaking, don’t like change. This non-elimination format works out well; people are just used to eliminations.
I hope when the season ends - you talk about this weird thing goin on with Angeria.
She’s such a delight and I really enjoy watching her - yet everytime she’s in the top, the fandom riots on how someone else should’ve been in the top instead.
- i still think it’s so weird how all the queens have lowkey ganged up on her when she blocks anyone, and then gave her that vote for the most delusional one episode.
- most of her runways this season clearrrr yet she’s always left out of the fashion conversations (really her performance all around has been pretty great, yet I rarely see her praised for it)
i agree I kind of zone out during a lot of the acting stuff but the runways I'm locked in
I personally find the snipping "storylines" rather annoying!

I don’t mind no elims on all stars cuz really, what we are watching are professional entertainers performing! The competition side of it is just a vehicle for the queens to show off their skills and personalities. So as long as the skill+personality is top tier, im happy.
The queens are great, but this is television. The season is not good because it’s not entertaining. Sad but it is what it is.

The snipping storyline is so boring omg
What they're doing to Shannel is incredibly frustrating. They're not past committing obvious riggory, so I don't understand why they can't throw her a bone every now and again just to keep the narrative tension. It's 2/3 of the way through the competition and she still does not have a single badge, despite there being one or two instances you could argue she earned it. The fun in competition shows is wondering who will get to the end and it's been pretty clear for a while now who at least 3 of them will be. But with Shannel getting NOTHING, how is the audience supposed to maintain a sense of intrigue? She's taking it like a champ, cuz if I was her, I would've tapped out by now cuz they're not even entertaining the notion of her--it must suck to have your only storyline be "Oh I am in last place with seemingly no hope of redemption." Even if they pull some stunts like they did in AS7 and she suddenly is flush with badges, it'll feel even more undeserving. It's such a simple fix but production is playing favorites again.
i didnt love AS8 but it kept me watching AS9 feels like just nothing to me aside from the runways. ive let 3 episodes pass me by just looking at the challenge that gets uploaded to youtube and the runways becuase im not vibing with any of the workroom stuff.
The season is kind of boring, but entertaining, let's be honest. I watch this with my boyfriend, and last episode, we almost fell asleep because of the pacing and not much really happening, but we pulled through.
The Ruby Snippers plot line kind of failed in the end. Everyone that was cut didn't even place the top 2 the following week, so what was the point? We have to wait and see if Angeria places the top 2 next episode and doesn't get her 4th badge. The season is alright so far, but if it's a 12-episode season, then it's almost over 🎉.
At the end of the day, I still prefer AS9 over AS8.

If they can’t do a non elimination season they don’t get the good queens (most commentary channels have said for years that “queens will not want to hinder or halt their career to go to drag race just to get sent home first and possibly get a bad edit that will essentially kill their careers”) if you don’t get the good queens then you get a season 8 all stars where everyone wants to quit and then you still complain there is just no winning and I think the franchise is getting boring cause the storylines the villains and everything are on repeat and not special and different like how you can compare season 2 to season 5 it’s so different it’s like it’s a new show but the same comforts now it’s the same show over and over again while also being mass produced
honestly its crazy that plastique won 4 times yet still didn't win anything for her charity.
