I WAS VERY GLAD TO KNOW THAT THE CATHEDRAL WAS RESPECTED AS A PLACE AND A HOUSE OF PRAYER... TO UNDERSTAND THAT IN THE DIFERENCES THERE IS ALSO THAT IS COMMON: LOVE TO GOD, TO PRAYER AND TO THE WORD OF GOD.

I can't imagine what is going through the minds of many people within this congregation. No matter how it is presented, it has to be very hard to lose such a beautiful place of worship. I am thankful it will continue as a church and as a Catholic, I plan to visit someday. I really hope there is an effort by the Catholic Diocese to reach out to the members of this congregation somehow.

So sad to see the end of an era. Dr. Schuller was so full of life and gave a lot of hurting people new hope through his preaching from the Word. People who were at the end of their rope would turn this program on and have their lives literally saved by the Hour of Power.

I am very thankful for the many times I watched The Hour Of Power on early Sunday morning TV here in Sydney 'Down Under', and for the blessings received from three generations of the Schuller family and their ministry. Many people around the world have also been blessed, which in my mind, made it all worthwhile.Times change, both for The Catholic Church in Orange County and for the revitalised Shepard's Grove Church. May God continue to bless all His people, wherever they may choose to worship Him, and through whatever religion.

I thought of Robert Schuller Jr. last night when I was watching the Super Bowl. I was reminded of how Coach Kubiak was fired from the Houston Texans, my home football team, and only 2 years later coached the winning team of Super Bowl 50! I remember Robert Schuller, Jr. being on the Hour of Power for the Easter service (saying "Happy Easter!") after the contemporary stuff went away. It was a welcome sight. I hope to see him on the hour of power in the future. Bobby does a great job, just like his dad!

First time seeing this. I knew they had gone off aire. But never knew this. I cried in first part of service. Still sad. It is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. The message I get is "Where there is an end, There is a new life to begin." This speaks personally of something's in my life. Time for a rebirth. Though I am hurt that Crystal Cathedral is no more. I did see prior a Ash Wednesday Service, So much changed. It's like stale, sorry. I knew Robert H. and Arvella Schuller had passed away. May God Bless the journey and growth of Shepherd's Grove.

Kudos that Bobby recognized this elderly woman Doris as being the final surviving charter member of his grandfather's church. Also, despite the family squabbling that Bobby's father (Robert A. Schuller) came to the final HOP service held at the Crystal Cathedral even though he had his own church ministry - he also acknowledged Doris saying he was glad he was not the only one there that day who also had been at the first service. Personally I think the original tenure developed a bit of hubris, putting on all of those Hollywood type live productions (not surprising given its location) and ran into trouble due to more competing televangelists so there would be less income (in the late 80's there was a scandal that marred all of them save Dr. Schuller Sr. and Billy Graham but still it affected their donations as a result). Although they seemed to eventually get donation income to return to pre-scandal levels, the problem was society has become more secularized so less donations plus no let up on the lavish spending on productions, lessening the ability to pay their financial debts. (This was a far cry from what principles Dr. Schuller Sr. operated on during his original ministry days as he mostly operated back then as on a cash only basis). Everything started to fall apart when Dr. Schuller Sr. stepped down and his successors didn't have his magic touch - another death knell was the 2008 Great Recession. No one will really know in this life whom was most culpable for the downfall of the HOP ministry at the Crystal Cathedral but it is sad that Robert Sr. and Arvella had to deal with these bankruptcy issues and family squabbling during their final years.

I grew up in a small town in the USA..that had a river run through it. The town was on an high hill. Atop that hill was a magnificent gothic church constructed of Holmesburg granite. The town was an old steel mill town. I would quit for lunch and on the tv was Reverend Shuller preaching in a parking lot, and talking about his vision of a crystal cathedral. Looking at it now, I cannot image how much it costs to keep all that glass clean. That said, it is a testament to one mans conviction and his imbuing that dream in many others. It’s a work of Art really.

It was so hard to say goodbye to the church Dr. Schuller built, from the top down, it was bought by Catholic Diocese, after the Crystal Cathedral had gone bankrupt. Dr. Schuller knew about his grandson's move, to Shepherd's Grove, however, he was ill, and couldn't make appearances, afterwards, until his death. However, Dr. Schuller was still the best pastor. May he #RIP! (1926 - 2015).

I must say I have been to the Cathedral many times growing up. Wasn’t my home church but I loved visiting there, especially Christmas and Memorial Day. Loved the flashlights.😎 The greeting though, as a young kid greeting a stranger saying I love them and that they loved me was just weird. I didn’t understand that one.😂 Some even hugged! Anywho, lots of memories there. My favorite was when I was 11 years old, meeting Heather Whitestone and being invited as VIP guests to the glory of Christmas. So awesome!

What a "barky" rendition of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy." Ugh. And this guy in the pulpit is more like a camp counselor than anything else. The members of that family tore the whole ministry to shreds with their greed and infighting. Oh yes, it was nice of him to than everyone... but this is so much more like a show than worship. Bobby Schuller invites everyone to pray--sort of. He launches in to his brief prayer without giving the congregation a chance to find silence and listen.

    Well here we go...
I think some people below are a bit deluded on the subject of Christianity. Let us not forget that it was the Catholic Church that wrote the Bible by publishing them as one collection of books (they didn't have Bic pens back then, it took years and we actually made Peter, yes the one who was first named Paul to be Pope). Ever wondered why Protestants ask 'why do Catholic's add to the Bible'? Because the Protestant church took away from the original writings all incompatible books from it so that it would fit with their own beliefs. Furthermore, we do not need to talk about religious apologetics to even talk about how wrong John (the person commenting below) actually is, for, the Protestant church accelerated into society not because of Truth or Justice or Love or because of Our Lord's purposeful death; but because of one man's desire, King Henry VIII of England, to divorce his wife and re-marry. That is where the Protestant Church (every Christian church which is not Catholic) come's from: divorce. If you are a Christian or Catholic, then you honour and love the Truth so I encourage you not to believe what I say, but search the internet to verify what I have typed. One further example of how different we are is with Tithings. The Catholic Church does not teach on the issue of 'tithings' and we do not and are not required to give a certain amount of our income to the Church as Protestant Church's require of their congregation. The Catholic Church teaches that tithing was only binding on the Jews (which for one reason is why it's only found in the Old Testament, a part of the book which for many Protestants like to believe is 'no longer followed and is part of the old ways', apparently), yet Tithing of 10% seems to be something Protestants pastors excitingly enforce.
On the issue of 'cannibalism', I simply had to laugh so I can only keep it nice and simple for the young ones: Cannibalism requires the eating of 'human flesh', yet Catholics do not eat 'human flesh'. And if it were true, then I would be very worried about the government in your local area for allowing it, also, if you believe we are Cannibals then that means you believe that we really are eating the flesh of a human being and if it were so, who's flesh would it be? I mean, if it is human flesh then you might be inclined to believe it as that of Christ Our Lord, and then that would make you a Catholic. But in all honesty, cannibalism, really? Clearly some important words like 'substance' and 'transubstantiation' is required to understand that we Catholics are not cannibals so I will leave it to you in order to find the information, but here is a link with some easy explanations for you: www.catholic.com/blog/tim-staples/are-catholics-cannibals Perhaps you wonder why it's even listed as a subject if it weren't an issue, well it's because the Catholic Church has over it's 2000 year history seen all the same old arguments time and time again that it's old story now.
On the issue of homosexual priests, now you and many people may be surprised, but the Catholic Church does not condone homosexuality in the first place. It only condones the physical tendencies of homosexuality, which means that because sex before marriage is wrong, and homosexuals cannot be married under God then homosexual tendencies are wrong. Now it might be shocking that such a hot topic could be summed up so easily, but that's the thing about the truth, it's generally quite simple to get since no backstory is required.
Regarding the issue of Mary being the 'mediatrix', there is no competition here. Christians, Protestants and all who believe in the Bible will also agree; we know this to be true because, if Mary had not said 'Yes' to consenting to bring Jesus Christ into the world, then Redemption may not have been possible. To understand it in easy English, 'mediatrix' simply means a mediator, someone who is a go-between. Mary was a go-between, that's why Mary had to consent to Christ coming into the world through her. You and I are go-betweens, that's why we're told to pray for one another.Through Mary redemption was possible, and through her Son Jesus Christ the effect of redemption was obtained by all humanity, but Jesus alone is the only way to the Father.
And that's it. Tried to keep it short for all those here, but there it is. Welcome more arguments, do keep them polite though. Thanks.

There were millions of Protestants across Europe before Henry VIII founded a separate Church of England; he was not the inventor of Protestantism - in fact he made many less reforms than continental reformers; he retained the threefold order of ministry, altars, statues, the centrality of the Mass, for example (although later leaders tried to remove some or all of them). You need to read about Luther, Calvin, Zwingli.

Greedy Schuler's, let the losing of this great creation be a lesson to the Roman Catholic Church or anyone else who are attempting to do what is wrong against the intent of so many who gave with the intent that the right purpose would be fulfilled.

Catholic Clergy make a fraction of Protestant ministers' salaries. There are 7 or 8 Masses a weekend at the Cathedral complex. The same kind of difficulties for a diocese are highly unlikely as what happened to Crystal Cathedral.
