Exquisite singing and music. No whining, winging, screeching and intolerable vocal and gestural contortions. Put simply: No unnecessary drama. Reminds me of a woman I met on a film set who invited me to accompany her to a nearby Church where she proceeded to sing a hymn in her truly angelic voice. Lasted a few minutes and then we walked back to the set. The experience has remained with me all these years. Thank you, Fil.
@@gbsailing9436 I searched out Clare Tory and no. I do so regret not remembering her name. We were both in costume. The tintinnabulation of crystal bells. A perfectly pure voice. Simply divine. She mentioned she sang for a living. The closest comparison I can find is the Soprano Lucia Popp and her "crystalline clarity and creamy warmth." Thank you.
When this song first came out, I was smitten by it. I played it over and over. I had not done that since I was a teenager. (64 now). Thanks to this video, I now understand some of the reasons why this was.
KEXP has some really great live performances. The bands that play live there often sound better than they do in their album recordings thanks to great sound engineering and the stripping of all the excessive tinkering during the studio production. London Grammar is one of my favourite current groups although their music might be a bit dark for some people.
Hi Fil, I love Hannah’s voice. She is really able to support the low notes and fly up to the higher notes. She has a great raw emotion going on, which is so soulful.. love it! Glad you did this one tonight Fil. Awesome job, beautiful song. Debbie☮️
Thanks Fil for a great analysis of London Grammar's performance. It's amazing and refreshing to listen to a natural voice that isn't pitch corrected. There's something raw yet beautiful about Hannah's voice. I haven't heard of London Grammar until today. I love learning new things from you from your analysis videos. In a way, it's like I'm Alice in Wonderland--without drugs of course. Thanks for being a superb and informative teacher, Fil!
Hi! Your user name is great! It wouldn’t have anything to do with artist’s pencils would it? I’m an artist and I love color but I also like variations of grey. 😊
I love Hannah, she always sounds amazing - to me it's super obvious that there is no pitch correction. If you have the chance, can you analyze/show the pitch on the song "Everyone else" at 2:22, she is moving up the scale but going in between the notes too, it sounds amazing to me.
Always convincing when you need to use the zoom in details for proof of natural vocal deviations. Impressive performance by London Grammar in this live recording.
Fil, please listen to Rhiannon Giddens live tapes. Grammy’s, MacArthur genius laureate, Pulitzer Prize winner, and now Artistic Director of Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road ensemble. She just released her first album of all original songs. Try “If You Don’t Know How Sweet Is Get On Out of My Kitchen”
I also have never heard of this group. I enjoy learning about artists I never heard of before. I can’t sing at all, but I sure can appreciate great singing. Thanks for teaching me so much - I really appreciate these videos!
Excellent work Fil. I love LG. Hannah has such an interesting voice - which has such an interesting timber in it, sounds almost off key down low even when she is on key. I also love the character and dynamics that each member of the band brings to their songs! For example, the guitar is so minimalist most of the time, yet he seems to find a place for the instrument in every song. The keys are always on point and guide both the mood and melody much of the time. His use of the drum machine for sound effects and lighting is very creative as well. Hannah's voice is sublimely smooth, of course and very expressive. Thank you for doing this one.
When the record that this song is from (If You Wait) came out back in 2013, I bought it and played it on repeat. So many great songs, and such a fresh sound.
Great video's!! Might be worth checking live perfomances from Ren, especially his duets with Sam Tompkins (blind eyed) and Chinchilla ('chalk outlines' and 'how to be me') . Also the live performance of Chinchilla's "Fingers" is a killer. But anyways, love what you're doing, keep it up!
I love this so much, Fil! Her voice reminds me of a young lady who at the age of 17 had a very similar sound and on my just sitting at a piano she would blow you away. Something tells me if one were to sit in a room with this young lady and have just her singing by herself, that would be all that's needed. Powerful video and now I must investigate this group further! Thanks again!

It's always a pleasure and a learning experience to watch your videos and this one is no exception. I have a request: With the recent loss of Tom Smothers, many of us who grew up with the Smothers Brothers have been reminiscing by listening to the comedy and folk songs they performed back in the fifties, sixties and seventies. Too often their musical talent was overlooked while their comedy took the spotlight. As brothers, however, their harmonies were truly beautiful. Appreciate that you are trying to educate/help people in hearing real music . I am a big music enthusiast, but have trouble listening to new music as I feel that most of it sounds so fake or just badly recorded, especially as many music lovers have good systems that unfortunately lets your hear all the crap, that maybe was listenable in your car or your $20 earbuds. I don’t understand how record companies/ studios will feel the need to pitch correct good singers, instead they should celebrate the vocal of the artists and do their best making it sound as real as possible, when I say real I mean humanly real as that person is sounding, I feel it is respect less to manipulate a voice of a human being like that. I also think it would be nice if recording companies and artists declared on an album if there was any major alternation made too their voices so the buying public would know.

Hey Fil. While I will wholehearted agree it's a good performance from a musical standpoint, I can't say it hits me with emotion, in fact the opposite is true. I find music in this genre to be contrived and, honestly, the only emotion it evokes from me is depression (something the world is already, unfortunately, overflowing with)..
