This is a pretty accurate representation of how I first played these tanks in the US TT. I initially had a hard time adjusting to the drop (low velocity) of the 75mm gun of the Sherman, and fighting T-34s, which required precise aiming to shoot at weak spots, made that more challenging. Then the part with the Hellcat sums up my first experiences with it. Actually, for most of the US TT, you can't pen anything from the front and you can't tank any shots. You're always the balanced tank. You rely on quick wit, cunning, accurate shooting and the .50 caliber to win engagements. Later, I came to appreciate the advantages of the US TT tanks that its peers do not have in their BRs (whether that may be stabilizers, the .50 cal, mobility, survivability). Through the initial birthing pains, you can grow into a very experienced player, and a lot of the US TT players go through a similar experience, which make them usually better to match up with than against. So you end up with moderate-decent tanks with very experienced teammates most of the time.
