A great taster video of this area . Looking forward to next instalments ! Do hope you got to St Briavels . Beautiful village with its castle ! Much appreciated! ( Wear a hat , very easy to get heatstroke you know Richard ) 😉👏👍
Yes, St. Briavels , allegedly one of the most haunted castles in England but on the Welsh border. I remember seeing a video with Michaela from BBC SpringWatch/Autumn watch doing a spooky video in St. Briavels. Lovely church there and views across the wye valley opposite the castle.
You can get some really good tree identifier apps for your phone, One that's called leaf snap looks good...it uses leaf recognition technology - you take a photo and it identifies it for you
Nice video. Thank you for sharing your walks in this part of England. I' ve never been there myself but i guess i should expand my list of places to visit in England [maybe even in a gypsy caravan ;-)]
It gave me such a joy to see all those "fox"gloves! Started laughing thinking about what kind ol' soul must have threw all those seeds out along the pathway cause the forest "just wasn't pretty enough." (you might remember me telling you this story of my Dad doing this on his walks) Then it gave me a tickle to think my Dad is prob up in heaven still casting his seeds out here & there "cause God hadn't made that area of Heaven quite pretty enough!" Ooohhh...now I have a tear in my eye!
Lovely first video Richard of the forest trip, I know what you mean about people looking at you suspiciously when your a single male out and about, its a shame. Im sure one of your patrons would have loved to walk with you too, Interesting about the enclosure stone. Id imagine very few people see that. With some of us working or unable to get out as much as we would wish its so nice to see you out in the wilds
Just visited England for the first time several weeks ago. I loved it, but I was mainly in London and touristy spots.. Next time I visit, I am definitely going to try and find spots like this to hike. What are some recommendations?
Hi Richard, I am a Worthing local too. Near us we've got Houghton Forest, Eartham Woods and Kingley Vale North of Chichester. Are these places you visit? I do agree it's difficult to go anywhere really remote where you don't keep bumping into people.
Forget the wild flowers Richard, you need to be on the lookout for wild boar as they can be quite dangerous when they have young with them, did you see any while you were in the forest? My cousin lives in a house backing onto the forest and the boar there can be a real nuisance apparently, leaving the forest to root around in gardens.
I said they CAN be dangerous when they have young with them, like any mothers they will protect their young, did you never see the film Old Yeller 1957? ruclips.net/video/eTzwS38GK1s/видео.html
Well I knew England had to have proper forest!!! Otherwise how could Robinhood & his band of Merry Men hide out so well (& yes I know that forest is supposed to be in Nottingham). The Forest of Dean is such a very beautiful area!!!🌲🌳
@@RichardVobesthat is sad & unfortunate!!!! I am glad here in Oregon ( & other states) they declare Natuonal Forest so oiur ancient woodlands can be reserved & protected. Where logging is permitted they are required to replant a forest before they leave!
something we can thank the church and the royals for. the only reason that it's still there, and hasn't got a motorway through the middle of it. what does a dean, conjure up for you the viewer ?
It's a mistake that many make when filming, but what you need to do is to turn the camera around away from yourself. By all means, have the camera on yourself at the beginning to make an introductory offering, and again at the end to make a closing offering, but in between the beginning and the end, the camera should only be on the environment you are in. I don't want to watch you carry a camera turned on yourself all the way through the video, I want to see the environment you are in, I don't want to see you except at the beginning and the end. Let me see the subject of your video, and you are not it!
Hello Richard love the video :)

😁 Lovely video, thank you Richard. That's interesting about the meaning of the word 'forest' 🌳 Nice find with the enclosure marker, cool...

The foxgloves are all over the place here, so not sure that they have been deliberately sown.
everyone knows that their there to keep the foxes paws warm in the winter
Fantastic video buddy. Very peaceful and entertaining.. Subscribed 👍🏻
You are very kind - thanks for watching and the sub!

Nice Video and your camera is really good.
Greetings from germany!
Thank you very much.
Damn three hours this man drive alllllllll the way across the UK to get here give this man a biscuit 🍪
Always take with you a prismatic compass, Richard. Use it with a good map and you'll be Ok. Regards, Mike Wellington, former Dean Forester.
Good clip!
A beautiful area to wonder around. Foxglove :- Digitalis, a colourful killer, deadly poisonous.
Just visited England for the first time several weeks ago. I loved it, but I was mainly in London and touristy spots.. Next time I visit, I am definitely going to try and find spots like this to hike. What are some recommendations?
Oh golly so many recommendations - too many to give here.

I haven't made a video in Eartham Woods yet, but certainly been to the other places you mentioned, also Clapham Woods and others.

My cousin lives in a house backing onto the forest and the boar there can be a real nuisance apparently, leaving the forest to root around in gardens.
I didn't see any sadly
As someone who lives in the Forest of Dean, I'd like to know what evidence you have used to term the boar 'dangerous'?
I said they CAN be dangerous when they have young with them, like any mothers they will protect their young, did you never see the film Old Yeller 1957? ruclips.net/video/eTzwS38GK1s/видео.html
Did you get any ticks on you?
Not a single one! :)
Well I knew England had to have proper forest!!! Otherwise how could Robinhood & his band of Merry Men hide out so well (& yes I know that forest is supposed to be in Nottingham). The Forest of Dean is such a very beautiful area!!!🌲🌳
The Forest of Dean is sadly no where near what it once was. :(
