How to Teach Nature Journaling

- Are you a school teacher who would like to lead nature journal activities in your classroom? Perhaps you are a home school parent who would like to extend and enrich your current journaling activities. Are you interested in starting (or are already leading) a nature journal club in your area? Or, you could be a nature journaler with no interest in teaching but would like to understand the psychological research behind what you do to better understand and inspire yourself.

Holy guacamole! I teach 7th grade life science and am trying to start a naturalist elective course at my school. Your video is full of amazing ideas for pitching the course to my administrators and making a course like this possible. I plan to watch it again and take notes. I especially like the part about what to do when you get that "done" feeling. Many students see prompts as tasks to complete and end up missing out on so much. Thank you for inspiring me to be a better educator.

Can't wait to use the game and "I'm done"strategies with my students. Also, your tips on feedback are wonderful. I often fall prey to the inner critic/pretty picture thing in my own journaling; it is helpful to have feedback ideas that will focus the students on journaling in its entirety.
There's invaluable stuff here for anyone teaching journaling @ nature. I particularly like the reminder to honor questions and observations over " pretty drawing." And some actionable activities to use with journalers of all ages. Thanks, Jack, for the ideas and inspiration!!!!
