I have a 2013 Kia Rio that I do most of the small repairs with, never had anything big pop up until today, with the engine overheating indicator pop up, and when i went to check it, I saw the serpentine belt was looking pretty frayed on one side. I don't have anywhere to be for a while, so i am going to order coolant and a new belt, and use your videos to shore up my car until I can drive into town 30 minutes away for a leakage check. I really hope that a coolant leak and belt replacement are the only things for now, but I have thus far been on top of the small stuff over the 130,000 miles I put on my car so far.
Water pumps with a bad pulley or any stuck pulleys can cause it as well. Hopefully it was just a bad belt.
@@MountainManMo Oh, then I need to find out what makes for a bad water pump. When I went to remove the bad belt, I checked out all the pulleys. The middle smooth pulley (water pump) was slightly wobbly to the touch, but only the "cap" part of the pulley. Is that normal? All the other pulleys, including the idler smooth pulley, were solid. And the bad belt I mentioned was bad because it lost a whole rib off the side. I am still waiting on the part to get in from the mail, but my coolant got in and was replaced promptly.

Trying like hell to find a video for 2011 Kia Rio. Just the AC belt broke and not the other. Never had a vehicle with separate ac belt. Car works but I'm roasting. Got the new belt for diy but can't find a vid.

Wondering because my Kia has squeaking when starting cold, stops when warm. I'm trying to diagnose the issue. The pulley that's unknown is a bit loose.
Take the belt off and spin pulleys. Check for wobble and roughness as they turn. Watter pumps squeal.
@@samuelarambula2884 Unknown pulley is called the idler pulley in other videos. I am a newbie at this sort of stuff, but I assume that means that it keeps it all going while idle?

How u can put the new belt, I don’t see how do u do
Just follow the belt schematic. You may have to remove the left front tire and splash guard. That will give you better access to the crank pulley and the idler pulley. This Kia Rio design is LAME! It uses the old V belt tightening routine using a serpentine belt. Every other auto manufacturer uses an automatic spring loaded tension pulley. This is a 1930s design.
Can i use the belt if it is 2mm smaller than the original one?
Always use parts made for the vehicle. That being said as a disclaimer, there is enough room for tensioner movement to fix a 2 mm difference as 25.4 mm = 1 inch so 2 mm is 0.08 inch.
I am assuming the difference is only in length and not width.
How long did it take you to do this.
Expect to spend up to 30 minutes if you have not done this before.

Always use a genuine kia serp belt. The US serp belts are not to spec. Save yourself some grief. It costs more, but it slides on like butter.
That bottom bolt is a bear.
