Very interesting deep dive man. I appreciate the level of explanation which allows us fans to really understand the business side of ball. Keep it up!!
Quick question: In the "sign a star outright" section you did not include Jalen Green's caphold as apart of the money picture. Was this intentional? I mean there's no real world where they're not going to pick up his option.
Yes it’s intentional. If they want to have max cap space in 2025, they have to not extend Alepren Sengun and Jalen Green this summer, and renounce Green’s free agent rights. That’s because he has a massive $31.2 million cap hold that would cut their max cap space in that scenario to the $30M range, which wouldn’t be enough to sign a 30% max player like Donovan Mitchell to his max. However, they are still in a position to sign and trade for Mitchell with that amount, but it would likely involve Green being sent out anyways.
I know you didn't just refer to mikal bridges as an allstar caliper player. 40th percentile in TS%, 26th percentile in defelctions, 33rd percentile in Defensive Rebounding Quality, 26th percentile in BLKpct, 34th percentile in CraftedDPM.
I don't think he's an All-Star caliber player but he's definitely considered one by many. The line for which players we refer to as stars or All-Stars has certainly shrunk in recent years. Bridges is a major beneficiary of that, especially considering what other teams have been offering in trades for him.
Mikal is a good player , stop hating , as soon as he gets to Houston he will be arguably the 2nd/3rd best player. Over time he prob will be 4th , assuming jalen n Bari pass him. Another thing to consider is that he got playoff experience and team usa experience and is a smart high iq player . Something this team needs. He can score ,playmake rebound and defend and shoot. Just look at his stats when he was with Phoenix as a 3/4 option. His percentages was high.
Don’t want Mitchell or Bridges tbh. Mitchell is too small and sucks on defense. Bridges is a decent player but we already have brooks . There are no superstars worth trading for. Accelerating our timeline would be stupid . It would mess up our cap . Londale + Uncle Jeff + Tate + third pick for Lauri markannen
I agree with you one million percent!!!! Getting either of them would ruin this team . I say stick and pick at 3 !!! We need a shooter and a rim protector so I would like to get either Sheppard or Clingan!!!
Look at the Warriors they pay quite a bit for that team and never had to break it up. You could use them for a blueprint to follow. Or if you prefer the Spurs when they had the big 3 . Duncan, Parker, and Manu. And they still payed everyone else.
Great vid. I think they will need to deploy the sunk cost fallacy with Jalen Green. He is definitely not worth #2 pick in a draft that viewed as a strong in 2021. He seems to be more interested in making babies with different women and posting insta pics of him showing the middle finger vs working on his consistency and game. He’s only consistent at being inconsistent. He can still be a Jordan Clarkson type but not sure if that’s a ceiling worth investing in.
I think Jalen Green is a pretty good player. In my scenarios the common factor is that they have the luxury of time to figure out what to do with him. If they feel like there's someone better out there they could get in a trade, then don't extend him and see what's out there. And if he makes it to restricted free agency, they could see if there's any sign-and-trade opportunities or re-sign him. Lots of outcomes for him.
I think it goes without saying that the Rockets are fortunate that the Nets didn’t accept the Jalen + picks for Mikal trade. I wonder how his performance since the all star break changes how they view Jalen long-term.
It's actually not so bad since it's going down every year. But I think ideally they'd like to replace him with someone like Bridges making the same amount.
I think there’s a universe where they keep Jalen at a good contract and it works out long-term. I’m just curious how they feel about him since March/April considering they were trying to trade him at the trade deadline.
Van fleet and brooks need to be gone amen, green, Eason, Smith, sengun starting with #3 pick Whitmore, adams, and the other green. 9 man rotation 10 if they keep tate.
Van Vleet isn’t going anywhere. He is owed too much no team is taking that contract. He’s a good player but on that max contract is practically unmovable. Brooks is probably movable something like Brooks, #3, and a couple 2nds for bridges would be great
I’m curious how much longer they want to keep FVV. I get the feeling they’ll decline his team option for next year, and give him an extension at a smaller annual range.
lol yeah thats why he was getting benched in the 4th quarter most of the year. Guy is way too inconsistent and the Silas era ruined his development. He's getting better all around but im afraid its not quick enough to justify that kind of contract especially when we have so many other young guys that will need to be paid
@@ChocolateAnchovies coz ime don't like him in the beginning jalen have to adjust in the ist half of the season to his new role and he is 22 yrs old lot of NBA player that age is also inconsistent comment even dame have struggled jalen improve his rebounding defense and playmaking his potential is higher than Zach lavine and he is better than him right now and jalen is way ahead on him in defense and he is 200 plus million on his contract
I think most people would say that 5/175 I gave out is pretty generous. But if what he did in March/April is real, then he can repeat it consistently next season and play himself into a max contract.
@@YossiGozlanNBA he is father now that the difference this season than last season he now knows the ime system and what to do he improve his rebounding and playmaking plus defended well after the all star all he had to do is to add some muscle and practice shooting and add a go to move plus tear drop shoot
Donovan doesn't want to play for the Rockets. And if they trade for him this season, there is no gauranteed he will resign with thrm when he hit free agency in '25. Plus, the fans dont want Mitchel In any trade scenario, our untouchables should be: Jalen Green and Cam Whitmore. As much as mamagement love Sengun, he's the least fit with the squad, and the Rockets play far better without. We just need a defensive big that can hit 3s....a role Jock Landale excel in for his limited talent. So, we see how well the Rockets are suited with a defensive big that can hit 3s, doesnt clog the interior and provides the spacing necessary for guys like Green/Cam. Our trade pieces to facilitate any major trade should be: - Al-P - J. Smith - A. Thompson And renounce guys like Jeff Green and Jock Landale if we want to create more cap space for a big Star player but Donovan is not that guy. Brandon Ingram would make sense, and fits better with the talent we have.
I think you don't understand basketball. The matches won when Şengün was not in the team were always easy. Şengün created thousands of empty 3-pointers and Jalen Green always missed. Others missed it too. I hope that when Şengün leaves, you will see your mistakes. You don't understand collective basketball. Just a bouncing player profile will be enough for you. Fill the team with them...
Yeah yeah trade Sengun immediately cos he worths lot lot more than this. He needs to play for a top competitive team, not a mediocre team like rockets.
@@oyuncubaba2596 I promise you, the day Sengun is traded, will be a great time for the Rockets as we can get back to winning basketball like we were during D'Antoni' tenure as Coach. And this argument that the Rockets played inferior teams when Sengun was out, means nothing. If we had played superior teams, we would have loss those games but not because Sengun wasnt there (we would have loss even with him there), but because 1) we lack a true defensive big and 2) because the offense is an inside/out with a mideocre talent like Sengun as the focal point which is a recipe for "losing more, winning less" basketball. The Rockets are built as a guard/forward orient offense. Sengun complicates our performance as a post player. None of our guys are built to stand around and watch a mideocre big man run an offense the way he plays. Especially when our guys are way more athelic than Sengun ----- the kind of firepower Green/Cam bring to the floor really calls into question using Sengun as a focal point. He is not better than those guys. He need to DEFER and stop trying to be the focal point.
This definitely one of the more contrarian views I’ve seen on which young players to keep. I would definitely keep Jabari especially since he could play some stretch 5. I can understand your concerns on Sengun especially defensively. I just have a hard time seeing them move on from him, he’s been too important for them.
I probably would rather pay Jalen $30-35M per than Mitchell $50M+. But the Rockets reportedly like Mitchell, but FWIW, I think he extends in Cleveland anyways.
They reportedly tried to trade him to Brooklyn at the trade deadline for Mikal Bridges. I do wonder if his heater in March/April changed how they feel about him long-term.

@@YossiGozlanNBA awesome thank you
Excellent breakdown and sample trades / projections
Thanks! I'm very passionate about the cap and making these videos.
How TF Amen Thompson makes almost double Sengun on 1st year, whereas Sengun on 3rd.
Because Amen was a 4th overall pick while Sengun was #16. Players selected in the top 4 make so much money.
He was drafted higher!!!! 4 is higher than 16
