Simmons talking title; should Ole Miss have just paid Quinshon?

  • The 2024-25 college football season is over. Ohio State won the national championship. Ole Miss missed the College Football Playoff, though the Rebels did win 10 total games for the third time in four years.
Quinshon Judkins scored three touchdowns for the Buckeyes. Of course, the day after the sport’s big finale, the Ole Miss Spirit’s Ben Garrett and Zach Berry are considering for the last time whether Ole Miss should have paid Judkins what he was asking for.
They also play some ‘High/Low/Buffalo’ on Rebel football in 2025-26. New quarterback Austin Simmons is the wild card/buffalo. He also just told Rebel fans to mark his words that Ole Miss will be in the title game in the future.
How realistic is Simmons’ belief? Has Ole Miss done enough on the recruiting trail? And Rebel basketball continues to roll, even after its first SEC loss.

@BryanToombs that comment seemed more delusional than next year's hopes. You have zero rationale to base your comment about Austin Simmons. Let's not forget he's left baseball to focus completely on football. And let's also not forget about the amount of time he'll have to commit to football, the film room and everything else concerning football, seeing as he will most likely have graduated before football season arrives. Everything he has shown thus far shows he's focused on the right things.

Im fine with not paying him and letting him walk. What im not fine with is the total mismanagement of the RB during the season. If Bentely is treated like RB in all 3 losses, we win at least 1. Also, you're telling me Amos was such an awful evaluation that you couldn't even give him a shot over the 5 foot nothing WR? Then you run Parrish into the ground in a spot where he shouldn't have even gotten a chance to get hurt in the spot he did. It's just a total all-around screw up

The margin was $300K, if Ole Miss upped the $700K to $1M, QJ would have stayed, the team would not have gone 5-3, been in the CFP and possibly champions. Notre Dame earned $20M from 3 CFP games + the millions in revenue to South Bend for the home game. Not paying QJ probably cost Ole Miss & Oxford $35M+ in revenues. The D beat GA, not Dart and we saw Austin had no problem against GA. I like Dart but he made NO difference in any single game, any game manager QB like Luke Altmyer could have got Ole Miss to 5-3 with how good the D was. Kiffin & Walker Jones missed, they chose to prioritze paying Dart his market and not QJ - and they and everyone knows it. QJ was deemed expendable.

This is spot on . For Zach to say Q wouldn’t have mattered in those 3 loses is crazy . He would have made that bad oline look elite like he did every year !

That's one scenario. Another equally as possible and with clear indications is that he would have disrupted team culture leading to even less success. All this is pure Monday morning conjecture anyway.

My thought is get a Good corner and maybe 1 OL 1 DL we are not only ready but we are set and have 8 home games that is worth 2 wins. Playoff bound pending injuries. QB is stellar… he has over 30 passes showing that

The way i see it is if we were going to replace judkins then we better use bentley but nope thats not what we did. So yeah guess might as well paid judkins since we didn't even wanna use the best back we had. Instead we had one of the worst rushing yards. Most of time jaxson dart had to do to much cuz well no running game.

Or he just wanted to play for a team that could actually win a Nattty. Ole Miss parading around like a legitimate SEC program, while never even being in an SEC Championship.

While I agree with the first part of what you said. I don't agree with the second part of what you said. People can and do change for the better, it's called growth and maturity.
He is still a young man and can and will make mistakes as we all do and have done in the past. Both parties saw it wasn't working and parted ways and it worked out for everyone. I hope he learned from the experience and he continues to be a success. I think Ole Miss learned something as well.

"The way he acted?" Empowered? Confident? Exploited? Low Balled? That was the problem? He's not supposed to demand to be compensated on par with Dart, is he? How dare QJ have an attitude, grievence and expect to have the Grove Collective & OM compensate him on par with Dart

@@tristanmcmullan3664 Tom Brady, Michael Jordon, athletes cussing out their teammates is common, especially with the high achievers. Larry Bird was known to curse out his teammates, but it's said it wasn't always malicious. It was often his way of motivating them and pushing them to be better. When you're White and act like this, it's spun to the positive...when you're Black, you're mean and rude. Just keeping it real. QJ's behavior was common & typical when people learn/see they are being financially exploited, low-balled and not apprecaited on par with their peers. It's simple, had Ole Miss shown QJ he was being appreciated and compensated on par with Dart, he would have stayed. Walker Jones & Kiffin capped QJ at $700K, last and final offer (and QJ had multiple $1M+ deals waiting for him). They tried to Low Ball QJ, plain and simple.

I think absent of top 25 is pretty unprofessional. Really to say its because we don’t have a proven starting QB yet put Texas #1 kills the argument.

I'm glad. I think it's better for the player's mentality to be the underdog. Winning changes everything. It's preseason anyway and worthless. All the rankings are mostly for name recognition at this point.

Simmons will be one of the worst QB’s in the SEC. Quinshon obviously knew and got out before the overhyped BS caught up. If anyone has high hopes for next season being better is crazy delusional.

What on flat earth are you talking about. Q wouldn't be at OM next year had he stayed. Simmons may have first time starter issues but to say the worst in the sec is a simple jack type statement. Go get on your state message board.
