    I can't get the old striker out of my '69 Mustang.....the screws will not move. I've tried WD-40, a heat gun, a hammer driver and even a small propane torch. Can you show us how you got yours off?

      I ended up drilling the top of the screw heads. Just enough slip the striker off but that now leaves the remaining bolts exposed. Now I could get a good grip on the bolt with vice grips and could now slowly screw it IN a little , then out than in etc... I was able to work the bolts out and therefore why I had to buy replacements. As I mentioned I got bolts that matched the thread BUT instead of phillips head I used Alan key which is much more positive or of course torx as well. Once the striker is off you can really get the penetrating oil on the bolts as well. Good luck as I too tried the hammer driver and that did nothing . Good luck

    Great video. I am going to have to do the seals and locks on my 68 cougar I’m working on.

      Sounds interesting, let me know how it goes. My issues were simply due to a remanufactured door so hopefully you do not encounter any fitment issues.

      @@68mustangrestoration34 that’s a long ways down the list. I’m hoping to get some work done on the inner fenders this winter when I get a project in the house done. But we will see how time permits.

    Great tutorial!! Nice out of the box thinking on the actuator mount 👍 I've never trimmed a door gasket but I would try it before replacing. Never know.
    Side notes. Use 69-70 lock rod grommets. They are felt lined and quieter. Easier to put in before the glass but not impossible after. Check outer door rubber beltline asap. Lot of aftermarket doors the holes are punched a little too deep. Resulting in having to screw them on. 😫 Nice work.

      Thank you. I will prefit the seals to see if they mount or do I have to screw them in. Appreciate the heads up.

    Wally what lock mech is that? From another car or a jobber one?

    • @68mustangrestoration34
      @68mustangrestoration34  3 года назад +1

      the lock mechanism itself is the original from the car. the power lock was part of my alarm system I ordered from amazon. Now the actual lock cylinder is the original BUT i bought the same kit Barry did where the door lock uses the same key as the ignition and trunk. I will be using the new cylinder when I install.

      @@68mustangrestoration34 Oh ya I knew the actual lock and rods were from the car but was just talking about the electric actuator. I really like restomod stuff!

      @@davebrittain9216 Sorry, yes the actuators were part of an alarm system I bought. Came as a kit including the alarm, siren, shock and movement sensor as well as 4 door locks. I was toying with the idea of using the second channel on the alarm and spare actuator to operate the truck lock. BUT after investigating the amount of effort and challenge to mount it so it does not interfere with everything I decided against it.

      @@franswijnands4022 will do. I had thanked you for the idea as on the first lock it will not be supporting the door and therefore only the hinges will be, I mentioned that I will install the glass first to weigh it down and then adjust. 👍
