Great video Willy. Shocked how good that stock 1x12 Solid State Fender sounded ... reminded me of old school blues / hardrock live sounds from the mid 70's
Tone is not in the fingers; if you got Jimi Hendrix to play an open C on exactly the same gear as John Petrucci it would sound the same. I think you mean style.
Been waiting 20 years for someone to put out a video like this one, Genius move Big Willy! I thought the Boss had the beefiest tone but they all sounded pretty good, great playing also!
Great playing brother. I have just bought the fender champion 40 for home use and look forward to going through the sounds. Nice to see a fellow follower of Christ who is also a guitar player like myself. Matthew 5:6 Have a great day. God bless.
DSL40CR sounded the best. The Katana had the advantage because of the 2x12 cab. If you plugged in a 2x12 though the DSL it would put all the other amps to shame.
The GT1 and headrush was like a 4x12 stack.. very impressive sounds intensity and high wattage when needed .. with the right modeler.. may be the most flexible rig..
About time someone did a stage comparison!..a thousand vids out there but cant find many live or on stage… thank you… Id love to hear the Marshall with some delay and chorus..
This is a great idea to give guitarists a better perspective on what different amps will do on stage, including the frfr speaker. I'm curious about the Marshall 40 for my analog pedals and the FRFR because I have a Quad Cortex. I do know what you're running through the FRFR but it sounds shallow. I'd like to hear the Laney LFR-112 or the LFR-212 on stage.
I wish there were more videos like this on youtube, great comparison! I actually thought the Fender Champion and Bugera sounded the best out of the bunch. The Boss GT-1 with headrush sounded pretty badass too but was a bit too bass heavy IMO, might be able to just adjust some EQ for that and sound amazing.
Cuts through what? There’s no band/mix, which cutting through typically refers to. They all cut through the air here because there are no competing frequencies.
I play through the Fender 40 at home. It is very versatile with the amp voicings and effects. It holds its own in rock and blues tones. Plan on upgrading the speaker with an Eminence 'Red White & Blues'.
This is one of the most useful videos I've seen while researching amps for live play with a band. Not sure why but I didnt even consider my 100 watt Boss Katana Artist sitting in my bedroom. Just figured it would need to be tube to compete with my brothers Fender. All I know is the 20 watt 6505 got smoked last week. So I'll try the Boss this week but the DSL 40CR has been in my sights.
Actually for just playing around the house it’s awesome. But with the band going full throttle it won’t keep up and gets lost in the mix. As bad as I wanted to find a cheap non tube amp to keep up this one didn’t quite work out. For band use I’m using a Marshal 50 watt head through a 2x12 and it’s doing well.
@@Tatted-ne7tu Thank you for the answer. If you still look for a solid state amp that works well maybe you should check the CR120H by Orange. You probably know it tho.
That DSL 40CR kicks ass. Yyou are correct, the Bugera is a great pedal platform. Nice on it's own but much better with the pedals.I played in club bands in the 80's and 90's with a deluxe reverb and pedals and went from hard core country to Billy Idol and classic rock. The marshall was just to damn loud.
Brother, that partscaster tele just suits your playing! Your Carvin was nice but this guitar is just on another planet!!!😁😎 As far as the amps on stage, I was shocked to hear the Champion 40. Just by it's price and grab-and-go nature it wins in my book. Considering that nothing here really blew it off the stage and it had the best blues tone in my opinion!😎
I was impressed by the fender too, it's a modeling amp ( wich I usually don't like) it was probably on like a tweed setting I'd at least bet it was a fender simulation of some kind. Yeah their pretty inexpensive too, might look into getting one used just for kicks
So turns out we've all been sleeping on Fender's solid state offerings. That thing sounds great, especially considering what it is. I know people like the Marshall, but it still sounds kinda "ok, but not great by comparison" to me. Katana sounds really good, but that's no surprise to anyone who has followed them. That's also probably the best I've ever heard a Bugera sound. Like anything tube, seems they just need to be cranked pretty hard to get them to sing. I think they tend to sound quite mediocre at lower volumes though, from my experience with them. But you made it sound lovely. And the other 2 sound fine, considering what they are. My votes go for the Katana and Fender. Fantastic playing though overall!
Nice demo, i like the fender champion, but i think my favourite is the bugera, the clean is very smooth and clear for taking pedals. Bugera v22 head with 2x12 cab should be more better.
Man, this video is awesome!!! Just direct to the stage. What a great way to demoing gear!!! Thanks a lot, bro.!!! Between the boss katana and the Marshall dsl which would be your choice?! Cheers.
Thanks so much for this. Great playing! Very informative. It's still a big challenge to tell until your in with a full band, what will cut through and what won't. I was hoping you could tell us what the master was set on the Fender, Marshall, Katana and Bugera.
Hi Will once again your playing makes them all sound very good, though for me I liked the fender and marshall, that's just my preference, though the bugera was also very good, I the think price would determine the outcome for me. Thanks again for your demo.
Dang I'm gonna reconsider the champion 40, I really want something with a 12 inch speaker but had a champion 20 and couldn't get a usable sound out of it plus hate digital modeling so counted the 40 out. But you were getting a good fenderish blues tone outta that thing Willy with some cajones to it, very impressed 👍..... I realize good playing has alot to do with it too lol
The Marshall blows ever amp out of the water by far. I just got my burgera v 22 back from storage and Just looking around at video’s. I need a Marshall dsl. The Marshall jcm 900 dual reverb was the best amp I ever owned .
The Fender Champion 40 had great sound and good amp of power. The Boss Katana sounded good towards the end of your playing and the Headrush really needed to be close mic'd. Is this your church stage?
Hi man! I'm a local music teacher, and my question is what is the best amp or amps for practicing and teaching in your opinion? Thank you! God bless you brother! :-)
Hi, way back when I taught guitar we grabbed whatever amp was available in the music store... lol As time went used little Orange Crush amps. Now I see more Roland Cube amps. I think any of those will be fine, however more simple is probably better like a Crush.
Hi, thanks for the great question. The Fender amp is a Fender Champion 40. I did not mention because I forgot. It has a Celestion Greenback in it. I feel it calms down any brittle brightness. That is the only modification .
Great demo man.....first & last amp strictly for girls.Boss amp was a bitch, the marshall was great, the bugera greatish, the fender was good ......you,played a blinder.....👍
Great video Willy. Shocked how good that stock 1x12 Solid State Fender sounded ... reminded me of old school blues / hardrock live sounds from the mid 70's
Same here - sounded great for what it is!
Great sound from the fender champion. Really meaty, punchy sound. Love it.
@ Jon Gill - Those are some great grab 'n' go amps! Light weight and decent bass response as well.
Yeah I was surprised by the fender too lol, also Willy's playing, he rock's man.
It would be helpful if he told us which setting on channel 2 of the champion he’s using. No way that’s channel 1!
This are the kind of vids that truly show what small/budget amps are capable of. Loved it!
This video shows that the tone is in the fingers of the player. Great playing. That little Fender sounded surprisingly ballsy.
Tone is not in the fingers; if you got Jimi Hendrix to play an open C on exactly the same gear as John Petrucci it would sound the same.

I have that Fender amp. My first amp. Only played it on my room as always. Never been out. Impressed by how loud it can get
Very cool. Finally a test under „real life conditions“.
They all sound good with your playing.
Marshall DSL 40 cr have the best sound for me. Great playing by Willy. Respekt.........
Thanks Jack! It is a really good amp :-)
Never mind the AMPS... That guy can PLAY 👍🤟
Thanks Man!
Brother...your fingers make all of those amps sound good!! That tiny 4X4 blew me away lol
Thanks Michael ! :-) That is a fun amp :-)

Thank you for this video, it helps me to decide which amp I'll buy, I'm interested in the champion 40, sounds great!! God bless you 😁
Fantastic playing

I have the Boss 100w with the 2 speaker cab. Best money I have spent. Definately the best sounding amp. Also takes pedals really well.
The Booger is badass! Great video.
No doubt that Fender Champion cuts through the best out of all of them - quite a surprise!
Why a surprise? Every review since they've been out has given the Champion 40 great reviews.
Cuts through what? There’s no band/mix, which cutting through typically refers to. They all cut through the air here because there are no competing frequencies.
@@jlmcgrot Do you really need me to explain EQ to you? Your comment is stupid and not constructive. Have a great life.

Great review - really unique compared to a lot of others and shows you don’t have to spend much for a great sound! Peace be with you my brother.

DSL was best, the katana second
But there's so much more you could get out of it
The mid characteristics between fender and Marshall amps was very apparent - cool vid

Marshall sounded best to me. I am biased because I have that amp - and love it. I also have the Line6 Pod Go and think it is amazing.
A real comparison. I just squeezed an Eminence Legend EM12 in my bugera V22. Wow what a difference, almost a Marshall and so much clearer.
Was it muddy before? I play clean.
@GUITARTIME2024 not really muddy, but much clearer/crisp sound after the swap

Thank you for your amp demonstration Willy. I think the Headrush wins I can hear the articulation of your guitar work.
Everything except the Boss GT into the FRFR sounded good.
