I see 2 sets of skill here. The obvious is that there is a very skilled machinist working here. The less obvious is that the camera operator is really good. Smooth, gets nice shots, shows the process. Team work. Ver' naice!
just watched your video and i was so impressed with your skills.i am 65 and have seen some trades decline due to automation.great to see a young bloke keeping the trade alive and to such a high level.well done
I knew there were super well-trained machinists in the world but I had never seen one before thanks for showing me that you can do factory production Quality in a small shop .
Hello from Washington State USA! I love your videos; I just wish there were more of them, and they were a bit longer. There's something magical about making something useful from a raw block of steel. I was a machinist back in the late 1960s through the 1980s, and I especially enjoy that you do all the work from lathe to mill to welding.
Hey mate thanks for watching from over there! Great feedback will definitely work on some longer videos. Most of the first videos were thrown together from footage we weren't planning for RUclips 🤣 Appreciate you can relate from your own experience! Cheers 😎👍
Lovely work mate, the blasted piece in the final shots looked like a 3D rendered model! I really like watching rough chunks of metal turned into pieces of art like that...that would look good in any modern art gallery!
....Homeless seems impressed in the last few seconds! He knows craftsmanship when he sees it! Keep up the great work! Both machining and the videos....
I'm a retired plant and timber man but I am fascinated by watching metal be crafted in objects of useful beauty. The skill involved, to me is mind blowing Great videos to watch in the in the sleepless parts of the night. keep up the good work
Just landed myself an apprenticeship doing the exact same work you do, well wouldn’t trust myself just yet to be this good haha your videos are amazing seriously I can’t go to bed without watching one😂 hope to one day be at your level mate👍🏽 and I love the revolving tailstock chuck
Amazing to watch the amount of metal coming off of the blank. That lathe was taking out metal like an ice cream scoop from a container full of vanilla. Fantastic work!
Kurtis that swaf is high quality steel is there a value in it as scrap metal, ??? Good luck to you if its fetching you some money 👍👍👍 Geoff Lewis, Wales, UK, 🏴🏴🏴
Hey Mr. CEE, I’ve been a machinist for 35 years. I like your style. Your technique is fundamentally sound. Just subscribed after watching you finish this part. One thing though, give Kennametal a try in the future. They have some seriously good stuff. You’ll be breaking the chips much better. Keep up the great work!
Hey mate thanks very much for watching and subscribing. Great feedback too really appreciate the support from someone in the industry. Cheers, Kurtis 😎👍
Good afternoon This shot, in which the blank is shown first, and the finished product in the next, brought me to the saying of the famous sculptor. He said that there is nothing complicated in creating a sculpture - you take a stone and cut off everything unnecessary!
It’s only USA, Liberia and Myanmar which still cling to the imperial system. All other countries worldwide has made the shift to the ISO metric system.
I spent the last 13 years of my 35 year machinist career doing one off projects for a machine tool service, and now here I am watching similar stuff on youtube 😎 It's a good thing the safety inspector came thru at the end of the video to check out your work.
Art comes in many forms; the old masters paintings, Kashmir by Led Zeppelin, Rodin's sculptures, Ayrton Senna driving an F1 car, or Jonah Lomu running down the wing, ploughing defenders over. But THIS... man, if someone showed me a picture of the finished product and told me it was the platter of a $100,00 audiophile turntable, or the clutch for an F1 car, or a part of a space shuttle, I wouldn't be able to argue the point. That, my friends is sheer bloody art.!

That is a very useful piece of magnificent artwork. I have removed and replaced the equivalent cylinders on 637D machines several times many years ago, not an easy task.
You are great! Escellent job! As a dosctor in industrial engineering, I remove my hat!. I can be looking at your videos for hours, and look for more. From Spain, I beg you: keep on doing your delicate job. Kindest regards.
You seem to always think out how a project is to be done. I also like to cut on the back side when boring a hole. I also thread the same way, from left to right. I can see how the tool is cutting, and I don't have to worry about disengaging to halfnut on time. Thanks for posting these videos so the world can see how real machine are repaired properly.
Another great video. I love the footnotes about the bits used and the speeds and data like that, that is added, great job. You are treating us as if we are professionals. (We are).
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering You need to be careful with that background music or YT will pull your video for copyright infringement. Lovely part btw, just like a bought one 😉
@Andrew Fernie hey mate yeah my misses who does all the edits and uploads always has a go at me for having music on in the workshop. Why some of our older videos has music over the top so we don't get copyright issues. Thanks for watching 😎👍

I am not a machinist so I never knew what they were actually called, but those interrupted cuts are damn unnerving to me but you just cruise right through them. Insane skills and patience!
I'm also really enjoying your channel and watching your skills! Having just bought a lathe and milling machine (home size), the biggest issue/pain for me is cleaning up the mess of chips! HA! I then see the massive amount of chips on your large lathe and think I really have nothing to complain about! 😂
I see 2 sets of skill here. The obvious is that there is a very skilled machinist working here. The less obvious is that the camera operator is really good. Smooth, gets nice shots, shows the process. Team work. Ver' naice!
Thank you mate we both appreciate it!
When a machine part looks like a piece of art , you know the man making it has mastered his craft
I never tire of your videos turning raw steel into precion parts and works of art.
It is a delight to watch a skilled craftsman such as yourself create. Thank you very much for sharing.
It is genuinely appreciated.

Excellent work, lovely to see somebody that still has the manual skills... respect from a lifelong machinist and retired heavy plant guy
Lovely work mate, the blasted piece in the final shots looked like a 3D rendered model! I really like watching rough chunks of metal turned into pieces of art like that...that would look good in any modern art gallery!
...THAT'S THE TRUTH-!!!
Make me feel good to know we have such skilled people in Australia be safe robert
Hey mate thanks for the great comment. Cheers, Kurtis 😎👍
I honestly never knew Australians could do such good work. Most of the ozzies we meet are not good representatives of their trade Sadly

We do cylinder rebuilds at work but get any machining done offsite. Great to see how it’s all done. Look forward to more videos!
Hey mate awesome stuff thanks for watching 😎👍
Those big ribbons bring back painful memories. Beautiful part.
I like the Way you chainge betven slow and High speed clip.
"A Smoko Lunch Truck" sounds real sweet. Fine finish on this part after the two kinds of blasting.
Me hat's off to your camera lady, she always gets the best and most interesting shots

Wow! He cut most of that 45 degree taper by eye and hand. Skimmed it to final with the compound. Amazing. One slip and the part is in the bin.
