Agree with you 100%…. Great looking car (especially in that colour scheme) and one which will cover all bases for most people. Practical daily transport but one which will turn heads and put a smile on your face to drive… the perfect ‘petrolhead dad’ car….. except for the price! Knock £10k off the prices and they would sell like the proverbial hot cakes…..
Great video Pete…I’m 59 years old and not heard the words Shooting Brake since I was 10 years old and like you my Dad had a Hillman hunter, brings back so many memories 👍🏻
Always put your bike in rear wheel first and then rotate the bars to so that the front wheel is at 90 degrees. This method enables me to transport my road bike in a VW Golf without removing the wheels 😃
Great car! I think that despite its price tag in a competitive class, it stands out with its looks and practicality. Will not be continued, sadly. Thanks for a great video once more. Cheers, Tom
That was a really useful video Pete. I've a '62 plate A7 and I love it. You can get two road bikes in it! However it won't last forever and the new Audi range will be ridiculously expensive. I've sat in one of these in a VW showroom and it feels very much like the A7, so it ticks lots of boxes for me. It also looks really cool. Thanks again for the great review👍🏻👍🏻
I had a saloon R-line 200bhp petrol when my Skoda Superb was in for repairs. Visibility not great out if the rear of the saloon. Drives well with great levels of refinements. Only thing that puts me off is VW dealer experience. If you get any VW pray you have no issues as the dealers are terrible to deal with. I was pleased to get my Skoda back… less is more these days 😊
Thanks for the great and informative review 👍. I would be interested in hearing your opinion on the Skoda Octavia VRS estate as well and seeing how it compares to the Arteon. Also, I would like to know, if you could by chance review a Volvo V60 T8 Recharge, should Volvo also be part of the Hendy Group. Thanks once again for all the work and effort that you're putting into your content. Keep up the great work 👌
The Arteon is a really impressive car. They don't sell the shooting brake in the US and, unfortunately, i believe they are about to discontinue the sale of Arteon here after this year (which is sad). If I had a family and I could get one at a good price point, I would certainly consider getting one.
Great video - nicely balanced- and a car I am very interested in. As you say, something a little different. Fast (well, quite quick!), very practical, and looks great! I test drove an Arteon R last week (coming from a Superb AWD at 350bhp) and expected it to feel much quicker. A Stage 1 at 380bhp would solve that. Overall, a tempting proposition, and certainly more interesting than an S4 or 340i.
Well ya sold me on getting one! If I had the money and it was sold in the USA I’d buy one Sir Pete! The price is a bit high though. Great color on the car and a great review.
Great review and you know I always find your can I fit my bike in the back part of some of your reviews very useful because it's something that I always look to especially as I'm looking to my next car though I don't think it'll be one of those.
I miss the UK when you have access to this kind of vehicle. Once my Clubman JCW falls to pieces from the crappy Quebec roads, my options are going to be an SUV or an SUV.
Wow couldn't believe the price new, thought these were around 50k tops fully loaded. 64k is far too much. Can pick one up used 20k on clock for mid 30s. Good video Ped
True but you got to remember a golf R starts at 40k ish fully loaded that can go beyond 50k This is the R equivalent so I guess the price is inline with their model range
Thanks Mr Ped thats one i dont know the Arteon! as a car but looks a handsome beast , i like the idea of the T roc R or the Tiguan R ! would love to see a review on those !😇lapiz blue all the way!
Hi Ped With you on looks and styling, I like it and as you say rather unique in its class. Certainly very practical, other than perhaps a minor point when it comes to parking in the average super market car park! Difficult to sum up, but once again VW has not quite nailed it in this segment. It is a rather expensive car in a very competitive section, just misses out on a podium place.
Bah, nice Vauxhall omega you want! Get my orbea rise in the back no dismantling no problem. I do put it in BACK WHEEL FIRST though 😄and the slope on the boot door is non existent so doesn’t reduce boot area. Though you’d like to know, no need to thank me 👍😄
I always have to remove the front wheel of my fat tire MTB! Being a continuous estate car owner I quite like this one. But just checking the spec list, and you have to ADD the jack and tool kit for £15! But I have added £7670.00 for extras, including 20" Rosario Dark graphite matt alloy wheels and an alloy spare wheel (£515), (will it be the same as the Rosarios?). And it seems you have to pay extra for a space saver spare wheel anyway, otherwise you just get a "Tyre mobility kit"? But hey, Carwow found me a deal that saves £6852 off the original £55,540, (most of the extras) so just £42318! Hah! Almost exactly what I still owe on my mortgage! Great fun! Sticking with the good ol' Astra for now though. Oh and personally I will avoid leather at all costs! 😁
Great looking station wagon. Beautiful shade of blue. I'm in the market for a new car and would love one of these. But I don't think we'll ever see it in the States. To me it's a bit of a modern interpretation of the Volvo 850. Guess I'll have to just hang onto my Taurus SHO for the time being.
Having owned very many New and used VW's over the last 35 years or so I think that I am hooked although the current one is a Seat fr same as a Vw sort of, I agree with you that the Areton is a good looking Shooting Brake but it is over priced @£64k. Great video thank you. Regards Crawford
Yh, i reckon about 300hp give or take, is the sweet spot these days, since cars are heavier than they used to be. That still allows you to push the car and engine close to its limits, which is huge fun, without going completely mad, speed wise. The cars above that are not wringable ....not without driving in a dangerous way. Which would be more fun....redlining a well sorted mini on a back road.....or trying to go quick in a big, wide supercar on the same bit.....you can probably answer that Pete. Both fun, in all honesty....but id take the mini, any day.
I bought one in this striking blue two months ago for £35k. Less than 2 years old with nominal mileage. Love it. VW dealer experience? Not what I am used to. Quoted over a month to look at a warranty issue. Really? The only downside for me are the driver assist features. Lane assistance has to be turned off as I leave the drive every time.
I had a the SQ5 plus, last of the uplifted bi turbo diesels from 2016. 380bhp, 700Nm, more than enough on any road, and I drive like i stole it in dynamic from Somerset to Silverstone weekly and it still returned 33mpg. These q7 and q8 are just too big for my liking. All the options are now reserved for the Vorsrung models due to component supply issues with new cars.
I loved this when it launched a couple of years ago. The problem is the Benefit In Kind tax cost was huge, so was a non starter for me. Shame because it’s basically a cheaper version of the Panamera Sport Turismo.
Good review of the VW Arteon. You ask what VW car you we the views would like to be check out by you.. Why not do a review on the VW Polo GIT ??,, Not to sure if VW have a EV one coming soon ?

Yes just take the front wheel off it takes literally 10 seconds .... I do this and have done this all my car and pushbikeing life... Great car very good looking I was looking at one before I decided on my S4 Tdi
I have this car in the hatchback form in same colour with same alloys. The alloys are actually 20 inch, not 21 inch Also the top speed is definitely not limited to 155 but rather 167.

I love how this video had a bunch of cycling related jargon and I completely forgot it was a car video being someone who has a business importing performance car products whilst also being a distributor of cycling components and also a serious road rider, casual MTBer who's lifestyle and business needs matches yours. Also there's no way your L/XL disc brake Oltre ways less than 7kg
A very nice car overall. Style, performance, space. What more would you want? Well, I hate touch screens in cars for the important bits such as climate control. Not keen on Black interiors. Bring back some lighter options. and finally The dashboard. It is just not special enough. But it does match the VW corporate design from the Up! upwards (sic). Now if it had a more interesting and premium looking interior I would be sold. It just does not look £65K inside sadly. Shame really as it is a good car overall.
VW have added on an Extra 2.5k to the price of the Adtwon R sportback and shooting brake, they are taking the absolute piss. A fully loaded version of each is now 70k and 72k respectively.
Seen one of these when they released. It still had protective plastic and stuff all over it. I quickly hunted the VW website as I had no idea what it was. Then I found it and seen the price of it. Just not sure I'd part with that money on it.
@PetrolPed Yeah, I think so anyway. But then everything is going that way. I think I'd spend my money on a 335d to be honest. Or a 340 like you mentioned.
I've got two of these (both sedans, gasoline), a 2021 SE, and a 5 days old 2023 SEL R. The latter can do 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds. The '21 SE is somewhat slower - but it ain't no slouch... They are replacing a SUV and have replaced a two-seater roadster, respectively. I'm in the US, we don't get the station wagon - unfortunately. People here are obsessed with stupid SUVs and and even stupider trucks, instead of sensible hatchbacks and station wagons.
so an RS6 is £115K?... or the Arteon-R with half the power is £60K..... which are you taking home?? my B8 Passat estate is only just big enough for my 2 GSD's so I doubt this would be big enough :(
I think you should have tried your eMTB in the other way round it might have gone in that way. It would certainly have gone in with the front wheel off rear in first I am sure especially with that low floor in the back. Mine goes in the i-Pace rear first front wheel off and that looks like a bigger boot as I am sure it is similar to the passat estate I had. It's a lot of money though.
No chance it would have fit without taking the wheel off, the aperture is too small. And taking the wheel off it would fit in most averagely sized estates.
Hmmm what height are you? Because if that was a Renault you would have a lot to say about the lack of leg room for the size of the car. Didn’t look “spacious” Maybe being forgiving because of the badge?
Very low back seats to save headroom , his knees are sitting super high. Much nicer and more practical than a golf . What's the price difference because 60k is crazy
Its a great looking car especially in rhat colour. I've got the Volvo v90 cross country D4 estate, with Polestar upgrade. May not be as fast but personally, and I know it's subjective, I prefer the Volvo and think it maybe slightly bigger and more spacious, and my interior knocks spots off the VW.
I have an Arteon (not an R) and the build and reliability is very poor. Mine's a 2019 but owners of the facelift are reporting even worse issues than I have experienced. Some are on their 6th steering wheel. Lots of issues with the DSG box too.
I ran a 2020 hatchback version for two years (27,000 miles) - not one single problem or issue and was very economical for a 2.0 litre petrol (190PS) achieving over 60mpg regularly on a good run. Fantastic car.

The seats look fantastic, I like the way the rear seats go right up close to the roof line giving the rear passengers privacy.
Great car! I think that despite its price tag in a competitive class, it stands out with its looks and practicality. Will not be continued, sadly.

Sounds great!
This is nowhere near A7 segment, it's Passat basically, so A5. You'll find it a step down from A7.
I had a saloon R-line 200bhp petrol when my Skoda Superb was in for repairs.

Thanks. Trying to get hold of an Octavia vRS. Will look into the Volvo 👍
Got a 2.0 190 TSI Shooting brake..... Love it.
👍
Car looks great, who doesn’t love a fast wagon! Also that Bianchi hoodie looks like the most comfortable hoodie ever 😂
I live in it. My favourite bit of clothing 👌
One of the best looking estates out there. Comforting strength, space and performance.
The Arteon is a really impressive car. They don't sell the shooting brake in the US and, unfortunately, i believe they are about to discontinue the sale of Arteon here after this year (which is sad). Top vlog as usual Ped. Estate or shooting brake? To me it looks like a 4 door Scirocco! It's got that same vibe about it. 👍
👍

Here in Australia, new ones are $80,000-$85,000, wait about 12-15months and you can pick one up for $60,000-$65,000 with really low KM!
Great review and you know I always find your can I fit my bike in the back part of some of your reviews very useful because it's something that I always look to especially as I'm looking to my next car though I don't think it'll be one of those.

Yeah. Not great planning 😂
this guy has a mtb, a gravel bike and a road bike.. yes its a e-mtb not a proper mtb but still it looks like a session. 😊👍
And the e-bike is my go to bike, followed by my gravel bike. Love it 👍
Put a bike rack on the back he says, as if it's not long enough already 😂

Hi all. Looks like Pete is going head to head with Joe 😂
Completely unplanned (obviously) 😂 The race is on.... 🏁
Guess when the embargo ended lol
I was thinking the same, sorry Joe I’m watching Pete’s video first
No embargo. Just bad planning 😂

Great looking car. It's got something of a big, 4 door Scirocco about it from the rear 3/4 view.
Or pre dating that, Reliant Scimitar
Yes it does!
Defender a short wheel base.
Cracking looks and nice spec.
A real impressive vehicle great content for the channel 👌👌👌
Thank you! 👍
A very handsome looking car but it's such a shame it's getting replaced with the original Passat , A U-turn for VW ? Great Video Pete 💯💯🙏🙏👍👍
Thanks 🙏🏻
I loved this when it launched a couple of years ago. The problem is the Benefit In Kind tax cost was huge, so was a non starter for me.
Shame because it’s basically a cheaper version of the Panamera Sport Turismo.
Good evening, petrol ped wondering if you could review the polo GTI please thank you very much as always. Have a wonderful week - weekend
I will try!
Nice review, thank you!
My pleasure!
Just watched this on joes channel u both released around the same time 😂😂
Exactly the same time…by accident 😂
Good review of the VW Arteon. You ask what VW car you we the views would like to be check out by you.. Why not do a review on the VW Polo GIT ??,, Not to sure if VW have a EV one coming soon ?
I’d love to drive one 👍
Great review.Nice looking car as well, but I think the touchscreen and haptics would really annoy after a while.
Yeah I agree
The Passat estate is more practical and much cheaper but my word it's a looker
👍
I own an Rline version of this in Australia. Even same colour. (We don't get the R version here). It is a lovely car don't get me wrong. But! VW Aus wouldn't organise a towbar. Had to organise my own which was horrendous!.
The fit and finish really isn't great. For a near $90k car it's pretty disappointing compared to my Mazda cx9. After a 3000km road trip there were soooo many rattles. And it's less than a year old 😞
But saying that. Got 12.5L/100 towing a caravan over that distance which was awesome.
A very nice and useful car there Peter but maybe a shade expensive….wait 5000 miles and a year to hit £39995…then it makes a bargain buy! 😃😃😃
A potential replacement for my 190 tsi..... But STAGE 4 on air ride!! Miss my Mk7 R Stage 2
Yes just take the front wheel off it takes literally 10 seconds .... I do this and have done this all my car and pushbikeing life... Great car very good looking I was looking at one before I decided on my S4 Tdi
I have this car in the hatchback form in same colour with same alloys.

Please give us a review of the ID.4 or 5 next, Ped.
OK 👍
What beautiful car! We used to have estate cars all over the place when I was young...alongside the horses that used to draw them😆🤣. The MPVs and SUVs killed estate cars here. This car is so much sexier than the ones of my youth, though.
Estate/Shooting Brake over SUV all day!
Great car but with the M340 as direct completion with a straight six and ZF gearbox it would be hard to choose.
Depreciates pretty fast though so maybe a good second hand buy?
M340 does not have this kind of space, maybe a 540.
It's a really cool car! A bit Mercedes estate feeling over it. Not for me pricewise though.
Love your videos! Would be really nice, if possible, if you could write out metric measurements when you talk about lengths. I think you have a big international audience. I always have to sit with a converter when I watch British and American content. Well it works, but it would be more enjoyable. Doug Demuro does it. Anyways, thank you for great content!
I should hope the road bike goes in that behemoth, I can get my road bike into my 2019 Honda Civic with the seats down!
😂😂
I think I would go for Skoda Enyak VRS.
Love the colour. Ticks all the boxes..
Thank you! Cheers!

How did u find the braking on this car?
Im not happy with the braking performance on mine.
How about the latest version of the Touareg…? That might be an interesting VW to test, it looks nice for sure… 👍

Ok thanks Ped understood
What’s the weight limit on the tow hitch for the Arteon? Would the e mtb too wide? Did like the gratuitous Campag beauty shots!!
Had to get some Campag carbon porn in there somehow 😂
Hope you’re well Pete and getting on those bikes.
Yep. When I can 👍
Petrol Ped, what brand and model shoes are you wearing?
They are Salomon X Ultra 04 👍
Beautiful looking car😅
Station wagon comes from...a wagon used to carry people and luggage from the station.
Nice vehicle but cost makes it currently irrelevant to me. Thanks for vid.
No problem 👍
I like the Bianchi, since you said it weighed 7kg,what model is it?
I got a little excited. It’s about 7.5kg. It’s an Oltre XR4 with Campag WTO wheels and Campag Super Record EPS Groupset 👍

Rather all blue
But it’s silver because of the window chrome work
Lovely car but so expensive
Yes, true
This is an awesome car if you have the guts to order one ! Makes an Audi look boring. Let’s hope people have the guts to buy one and be individual.
all-new stunning Volkswagen EV sedan! Is the VW Aero the electric Passat or the ID6 or ID7?

Nice looking car for a VW. However I would not pay that sort of money for a new one...they will look much better value as a 2 year old in my view.

Great point!
Hmmm what height are you? Because if that was a Renault you would have a lot to say about the lack of leg room for the size of the car. Didn’t look “spacious” Maybe being forgiving because of the badge?
6’3” 👍
4 or 5 cylinder? would look even better in cactus green. Torsen diff?? proper AWD???
Very low back seats to save headroom , his knees are sitting super high. Much nicer and more practical than a golf . What's the price difference because 60k is crazy
Is this the new Golf R Estate? As it’s totally a long R. It’s really nice but I’d 100% have a 340i instead.
A shooting brake is a 3 door. This is a 5 door so it’s an estate car or a station wagon.
It does have Shooting Brake design.
Hi Ped, when you mention other videos and indicate a link above, I never seem to see it ?
What are you watching on Mike ?
You tube via TV Ped
Ah yeah. Thought that would be the case. The links don’t appear when watching on a TV 😢
Get a 3 dr golf gti 7.5 manual. Best gti ever??
Always thought a shooting brake was a two door estate?
Joe has already done this 😂
Yep 😜😂
Only one thing that worries me is what will it be worth in 2030 after the petrol bans come in!?!
If there was an electric version I'd be sold on it!
