I am old enough to remember when an English person would never say "are you excited for the movie?" We used to say 'looking forward to' or 'excited about' and we used to say 'film' more than 'movie'. Times change I suppose. I don't think accents in the UK are changing dramatically and neither is spelling but in terms of structures and vocabulary American English is gradually becoming the norm in the UK even among English teachers. By the way, even "good job" is an imported Americanism. In fact, in colloquial British English 'it's a good job' or just 'good job' means something quite different to 'well done.'
I can highly recommend this channel to anyone who wants to learn English. He has got amazing teaching skills. I used to live in England but it took a while for me to get familiar with the British accent. Looking forward to watching more videos from you!! Cheers!
The “asked” tip was so spot on! It’s so easy now to pronounce it in conversation, my tongue would twist so much trying to but now it’s so much easier. Thank you so much!
I say it as as'k'd or ask'd with a soft d sound (using ' to indicate a break in sound but not syllable, I use - for a break in syllable). But I can see where doing it with a t sound would be easier.
It's nearly about year when i came across ur channel i learned so many things and i improved my accent with this helpful channel from Kurdistan to England thanks i appreciate what u have done👏👏👏👏💪
It's a very good video. I've never had any problems with the "ed" sound because my first English teacher was a native speaker and he explained the subject perfectly still in my first year of learning.
Watched the video and that was really a new thing for me. I was never thinking about this pronunciation, it just comes naturally when you're speaking English...
@@papateachme I would like to know where are you from? I have a big interest about the diferents kind of pronunciation like the diference between UK and US for example. Are you from Australia? Greetings from Colombia ;-)
@@TonyCyr They sound a bit similar but are different. 'Kissed' is like 'sssss' and 'used' is 'zzzzzz' like sap vs. zap, zzz is voiced. However 'used' can get a bit softened in some contexts so its harder to tell the difference. 'Used' as in 'I used to study spanish' is more sssss, but "I used the last pencil" is more zzzzzz. "I used to" is probably that way because of the way we link them together: "I yoostoo"
THANK YOU! Thank you, thank you! For years I have asked this question to different youtubers and none of them could answer and tell the difference. I must confess these rules are complicated for me but at least I am not clueless anymore 😁

I am a big fan of your work as a tutor/ teacher. As usual, your video lessons are informative and educational. Congratulations on your outstanding work. However, besides the voiced and unvoiced details you clearly explained in this video, I would humbly suggest the addition of a short appendix containing a list of ending letters that lead to these different pronunciations in the suffix "-ed" in regular verbs. By that I mean, whenever "past tense" and "past participle" regular verbs end in f, p, s, k, sh, ch, gh, x or ke, use the /-t/ sound. The ones that end in te, de, t or d, use the /-id/ sound. All other endings use the /-d/ sound. I hope this suggestion can help. Please keep up the great work you do online.
Why some many english-native comments LOL? 😂 Okay, as someone who belongs to a country in which English is the 3rd language, this really helps me. Though I still have difficulty in trying due to my very thick javanese accent. I remember my english teacher during my junior high, she's the only one (of all my english teachers I got) who really nailed those "~ed" pronunciation, and I was wondering how to do that? This vid gives me the answer. Thank you.
Your lessons Aly is funnier than some supposedly-fun tv-series! Perhaps we have the same way to joke..I don't know.. but you are awesome because you are authentic! You inspire me a lot as well as teaching me a better English
The best class about regular verbs in the past that I've ever watched. Thanks a lot. You helped me to improve my English much more. Excellent teacher! 👍🏻🙌
Many thanks for your video, I have known how to pronounce these "ed", my old teachers teach me to remember last vowel/consonant and it's really difficult to learn. Thanks again!
Very usefull stuff, it was exactly the answers I’ve been looking for about the -ed in connected speech. If someone dare correct this sentence before, feel free I’m eager to hear about it. Take care
Wow, you keep making such amazing videos!!! Your definitely the best English teacher ever!! Thanks a lot Aly!! I will share this with my colleagues and students.
