Funniest thing about Kleiner's book is, he succeeded! You can easily teleport during the game. So, the default VR motion scheme is in-universe in the game.

Iago I feel like that’s more of a thing with most valve games. There is usually some kind of Orange/Blue color theme. You see it a lot in HL Universe games but it’s also seen in Counter-Strike as well.

Of course, it's Valve we're talking here...
So much wrong in this thread. Development of this game was 4 years long. Development for Source 2 began long before that and most of the technology was already ready when they started work on HL:A.

Yeah no way, knowing Valve there's probably a pile of ripped cardboard arranged in some deprecated Morse code standard in some room somewhere that translates to a hexadecimal representation of a blurred picture of God knows what that fans are gonna be obsessing over for years before giving up only for Valve to release another game fifteen years from then that shows it actually DID mean something.

a mmsstv signal sound which shows you the picture of black and white dots which is a binary message which translated to letters shows you site which looks something like half-life3.com or something like that with some useless stuff which people will discover 10 years alter
valve might very well be the best developer out there - I never thought I would experience half life ever again, but holy hell - now my hope for a HL3 sometime somewhere is going to come!

I never lost faith in them for one second and I'm glad I didn't because everything they're doing now is just confirming what I believed for years: That they were either just inefficient with their structureless development style or busy doing other, more important, things. One thing I noticed about alyx is it seems to show the combine as somewhat fairly lax since civvies are able to wear personal clothing and not jumpsuits, magazines are still printing, and since theres a cat lady people don't move as much else she wouldn't have the cats with her. Of course, this is early on the lore but it's still interesting how much perspective it gives
yeah! I never knew the combine let cits use other clothing instead of the same suits.
I noticed when they captured Alyx, they didn't care that she was wearing a leather jacket and her BM zip up sweatshirt. This changes alot for me somehow..
It could be that they were slowly laying down more and more restrictions.

Considering the US is where everything happened in HL1, I can figure out that largest portals happened over America. Thus, most of the Combine's invasion force arrived there, destroying everything there. Kinda makes sense why all the characters from Black Mesa ended up in Europe, because there's nothing left in the US.

HALF LIFE : America continent is no more.

Except it wasnt first used in deus ex, it was first used in System Shock
The 0451 code came from System Shock 1 from 1995 and is a reference to the book Fahrenheit 451, not Deus Ex (which was made by many former developers of System Shock 1)
It was not from the book. The director of System shock confirmed that was a false rumor. The truth is that was the key code to their Cambridge office at the time, and since many LGS employees went to make different popular games, that code became a staple.

One Easter Egg you missed was the "number station", a radio channel that can be heard on Alyx radio with the antenna up. The Number station is heard again at the Norther Star hotel. At the bar area there was a radio that you can't interact with but hear various numbers listed out. As far as I'm aware no one has figured out the code or know if it's an ARG thing.

I tried to play New Born by Muse on it when I got to that scene but the finger tracking just isn't advanced enough to really play much more than chopsticks.

The Gnome achievement works with the bottle opener, too. Also, you can find G-man in the final scene with Gordon Freeman.

After that metropolice wanted to check what is this book and then he realized that this is book that says everything about teleportation technology which combine is still working on. And finally he sended this to the combines and now they got teleportation technology because alyx thrown a book
4:20 what's funny about that grafitti is that Portal and Half Life are in the same universe, so somebody must of been in Aperture Science, saw one of those turrets, escaped alive, and made that graffiti art. Maybe it was Chell, or maybe someone else.

The ants are taking over and its been a code used on locks since system shock 1 appearing in dishonored, hitman, and really just more games than any one man could remember or notice in a lifetime

There is also a drawing of the metro police combine holding a stun-stick among the innocent childrens’ drawings of animals in the zoo bulletin board. Right when I saw the bulletin board I immediately started looking for Easter eggs bc I knew valve would do something like that
I find the zoo really interesting because it seemed to be in operation for quite a few years under combine rule, until the QZ became the QZ due to the xen infestation (that likely killed all staff and animals we see)

I found one myself. If you look on the side of the bin seen at 4:17 on the left, there's graffiti drawn with some black marker spelling the word 'SCOUT'. I guess Scout TF2 is now canon in the Half Life universe, lol

I am almost certain that Black Mesa East was not a real branch of the original Black Mesa but it is a resistance laboratory build into an abandoned facility that is named Black Mesa East in reference to the original Black Mesa. When you arrive, Eli Vance says "It's not Black Mesa but it served us well enough." and Judith Mossman responds something like "It will be a lot more like Black Mesa with Gordon Freeman around."

That 0451 code - wow, reference to Looking Glass Studios, or to Immersive Sim game genre, influence of which is drastically seen in this game. Probably by members of Firewatch team, themselves being part of that genre
(First that code was used in 1994 I think with System Shock, or maybe even in Ultima Underworld - 1992)

Actually it 0451 isn't from deus ex but was made by looking glass and appeared first in System Shock 1, not Deus Ex. Obviously System Shock is a big inspiration for the whole half-life series.

The screensaver on the computer screen isn’t a reference to DVD’s it’s a reference to actual computer screen savers from the 90’s. The color monitors were still pretty finicky back then and could become subject to ghost images. It’s when the same image stays on screen for a very long time and becomes “burnt” into the screen. Look up Flying Toasters for the pinnacle of screen savers.

@8:33 It might be, if I remember it correctly, that the 451 code was first used in the very first System Shock ( on which Warren Spector of 'Deux Ex' fame also worked ). It was the code to get out of the Medbay you awoke in, and it was given to you by listening to a voice recording - in 1994. There is also a version of the game that has that code written in blood next to the pad you have to enter it in, but I can't quite recall which version did what - the original System Shock or the Enhanced Edition that is available contemporarily. Talk about behing ahead of your time.
Since then, the 451 appears in almost all games former Looking Glass employees have worked on - that's why it is in Deux Ex.
At 8:37, 0451 is a reference to the book fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Since then it has been referenced by many game developers, notably bioshock, prey, and the deus ex games.
