James Fox, Jane Asher, Cathryn Harrison and David Warner star in this unholy tale of communion wine, women and song. Adapted from Joanna Trollope's best-selling novel.
RUclips at its finest! Thank you so much for uploading this marvelous series. I loved it back in the 90s but despaired of ever finding it again, it had seemed lost to TV limbo. If I could choose any life, I'd live in the Cathedral close with all those great characters. No, Joanna Trollope was no Anthony "Barchester Towers" Trollope, but she provided a very entertaining read all the same.
Thank you so much for posting this wonderful drama. I remember seeing it when it was broadcast all those years ago. Haven't seen it since. Great to see it again!
Think about this, the choir members are all in their forties and fifties now. I wonder what they each did with their lives. How many went on to serve the church, or are still singing? How many put their children into choir?
I remember watching this when it came out. It seemed a little trashy at the time when compared to the great BBC drama serials of the day, but when you compare it to the dumbed-down rubbish on television nowadays, it seems like a work of literary genius.
The great John Standing. And young Nicholas Elliott played Michael Mont in The Forsyte Saga (newer version) and I last saw the sadly late Cathryn Harrison (Rex's granddaughter, Noel's daughter) in the best Dalgliesh, Original Sin. But this whole cast is of British stars.
The bishop is great - he's the only clergyman in the serial who actually is LIKE a CofE clergyman. I've never met one who looked, sounded or acted like James Fox!

John Standing was great as Father Vereker in The Eagle Has Landed.20 years later,he is promoted to Bishop in The Choir. What a great actor.
Peter Vaughn was great as Uncle Alfie in the movie "Death at a Funeral". RIP. He doesn't disappoint in this, either.
I loved this series so much I bought the soundtrack, which I still listen to. Thanks for posting!!

Me too. I have been looking for it online for years -- couldn't believe my luck when it turned up here. Many thanks to the uploader.

Wonderful series, an unholy tale and a heavenly choir. And classical musicians are very much relevant to the modern world.
Thank you from me, too. Saw it decades ago on PBS's Masterpiece Theater.
Beautiful

Judge Dredd says yes to Choir!!!!!
The bishop is the actor in The Crown who tried to sell his castle in Scotland to the Queen Mother... who he didnt recognize.

The dean’s wife reminds me of the bride of Frankenstein - her coiffure is so rigid, not to mention her manner…
🤣
Huffo?
Great
Anarchy, barbarism and lawlessness at the local comprehensive 😅 brilliant 😅
❤
Anarchy & the rest have taken over the world.
Grouty has cleaned up his act...
1995 not 1996!
Is there a murder in this? Perhaps the young bloke turning out to be a raving loony and knocking off the Bishop? Hate to be disappointed...
