The entire audition process was insane. I had 3 hours notice, about 15 pages to memorize, had to have a puritan accent, but i went for it. I was under the impression goody Bishop was an herbalist, wore brazen under garmets, yes, divorced twice, yes, and ran an ale house. There was not a lot about her that i could research at the time, 25 years ago... intent? Nyada... AND we had to leave for set that night! KIRSTY was... unusual, Shirley was interesting. I received the best compliment of my life from her. After the scene with Peter USTINOV where i scream NOOO!!! she came up to me and said slowly but purposefully, "You are a powerful actress". Too bad we don't have a celebrity😢 system here in Canada, it's not a meritocratic profession. I have the funniest story to tell you about that little hermit house, howl! But right now i have to take a break, just mowed the lawn and it's 40° out. Let's keep chatting! I'm inspired!

A lot of their bread was contaminated with mold, which caused delusions and b.) Contrary to what it might seem at that time, it was better to have a regulated institution with a prescribed procedure, instead of simply a mob of scared peasants who were going to lynch you those you couldn't reason with, incited by witch hunters looking for rewards and improvised judges in a chaotich procedure. In Spain there was only one big witchcraft trial, and it was of a fairly small magnitude compared to the witchcraft trials that were taking place in England, France and Germany at that time. The case of the Zugarramurdi Witches, which occurred in a village in northern Spain when a wave of witchcraft panic broke out across the border in France due to the trials that French judge Pierre de Lancre was carrying out for that area in which he burned 80 witches, that panic crossed the border and spread through the mountain valleys of northern Spain. Because of this, a process took place in which judges from the Inquisition went to investigate, about 24 people were tried, of which 18 were either acquitted or forgiven by the court when they were "reconciled" (people do not usually know this, but the Death sentences were only for those known as "relapses" who were those who refused to confess their sins and ask for forgiveness or maintained their "heresy", it was enough for the accused to ask for "reconciliation" by confessing and asking for forgiveness to avoid the death sentences or torture); and only 6 were executed for refusing to reconcile. This witchcraft process caused a great academic and doctrinal debate within the Inquisition, and the report that Inquisitor Alonso de Salazar y Frías wrote to the Supreme Council of the Inquisition served as the basis for the Supreme Council to issue instructions to its courts to avoid new cases like that of Zugarramurdi, considering cases of witchcraft as collective delusions.
