ur right ... but howard coulda helped out jackie and his crew in negotiations ... billy west, stuttering john, and jackie said that he never helped them out because he just didn't care ... you could see it in the movie private parts when robin got fired, she expected him to stand by her and he didn't ... that's the type of person he is... we've seen how he's turned his back on plenty of the characters on the show and coworkers he's had over the years ... can't blame for people like jackie and stuttering john of feeling betrayed

@@dirtmike6258 that was a movie and it's mentioned multiple times it wasn't accurate.
There are multiple, MULTIPLE clips out there in the past where Howard discussed his difficulties with Jackie's contract negotiations. There were at least once where Howard gave up money from his own pocket to keep Jackie there. Howard didn't own the radio station and he certainly wasn't responsible for anybody's pay, but he did what he could thru plugs and promotions.
So don't rewrite history just because you don't like Howard. There are these things called facts you should check out first.

Jackie was offered $650,000 in 2001, increasing each year until the end of 2005. Add on all his stand up gigs and the junk he sold, he would've been getting close to $1 million. In 2001. He probably would've doubled his base salary going to Sirius as well. So in the last 20 years, Jackie easily lost himself $20-25 million in earnings. And all he had to do was turn up, goof around and write some jokes for Howard.

It was a difficult situation for Jackie because quite frankly, $650K for what he did and on a show that was raking in the dough was insultingly low. The problem was that Howard (who has said this on the air himself) believes that the money that Jackie (and Artie) made working comedy gigs is really part of Jackie's salary. But Jackie (and Artie) have to actually do extra work for that money unlike Howard, Robin and Fred.
The other problem is that Jackie had nowhere else where he would make that type of money.
I'm not saying that Jackie should've left, but I can understand the issues he was having

I love Jackie and most people don't know how much of a role he played in the show's success. As for Howard changing like he has, I don't think it's so much that he's embarrassed of his past. I think for a guy Howard's age, at this point that same kind of humor and interview along with the perverted comments just wouldn't work the same as they did when he was in his 40s or even 50s. A 40 or even 50 year old guy talking about how hot a girl 25 is, is funny and relatable, but a guy 65 or maybe even older than that....it just comes off creepy and doesn't work the same. Also, I think for most of us, as we get older, we get softer and just kinder and I think Howard knows his glory years are over and if he's going to survive for another 5 or 10 years, he has to make some changes. The problem is, his fans expect a certain type of entertainment from him and what he's giving now is soooo far from the howard everybody loved that I don't see him lasting much longer. His star has already fallen bigtime. He's not getting anywhere near the number of huge stars in his studio that he once did. As for howard not wanting to be around another 5 or 10 years....i assure you he does. He's a very egotistical guy who wants to stay in that position as long as he can and he only talked like he did about not resigning to make sure Sirius gave him top dollar. I honestly think his run is almost over though because a lot of his old fans, me included, just don't want to see this version of him. I'd be surprised if he's still in radio in another 2-3 years.

Howard letting the entire content of his show completely change, going through years of therapy, and then going on his I have reformed publicity tour has been the greatest thing to help Jackie sell these stories to the public. And he has plenty of interviewers he can run to who know maybe 5% of what the actual fans , people who were actually listening to every show during those years know. Jackie's skill was that of the memorization of every old joke he ever heard or read and being able to insert it in the perfect context to what's going on in the show. David letterman, Jay leno, or for that matter anybody else is not interested in that skill. During his NBC days David Letterman during his monologue would actually say the words "and it deep too! " Which of course is the ending punchline to a very old joke. He did not need to pay somebody good money to sit in the back putting up those words on the teleprompter for him. The other problem is Howard Stern show material and subjects are just not going to be accepted on mainstream television. There was literally no other place where Jackie could do his thing other than the Howard Stern show. There's no point in somebody arguing with me because if I were wrong he'd be working on someone's show for these past twenty years.

It wasn’t just a day job, it was Jackie’s entire career for 20 years and they pulled a multi million dollar deal away from Jackie and gave it to Artie instead. No loyalty even though he had been loyal to Howard for decades. That would be the equivalent of Howard firing Fred because it took too long for Fred to call back.

The show was not better after jackie. Just different. Jackie was Howard's writer and Stern was much faster and funnier with Jackie feeding him lines all show long. Artie never filled that role. No one has in 20 years. The show got slower and more pre planned after Jackie left. It lost a lot of it's spontaneous zip after Jackie.

This is just sad. Opie has gone from one of the biggest shows on radio to holding a Radio Shack mic and doing a "show" out of his house.
Jackie wasn't fired, he quit, or held out or however you want to put it. They didn't "fire" him, they just replaced him when he decided to stop showing up. And the Artie era was the best of the show IMO.
Jackie just got an over inflated sense of worth and his bluff backfired on him. But nobody fired him, if he hadn't left he'd still be there today like Fred and Robin.

Jackie knew what he was pushing his luck with every contract negotiation... what other place was going to pay Jackie a million dollars to write lame jokes? Jackie always wanted more credit that he got... or deserved, IMO. By contrast, Howard WAS threatened by Billy West, which is why he never helped him get more money. He felt Billy was drawing too much of the spotlight away from him. That show was insanely funny - best it ever was - in the 90s with Billy West.
