I’m doing fantastic! Literally, absolutely amazing! I only meant that, in this particular case, too much China cymbal is better than barely any/no China cymbal because, in actuality, the only way one can use too much China cymbal is if it doesn’t fit the part. There are many parts in this song that I think the China cymbal would have sounded great in. So, therefore, in my opinion, it would be better to abuse the China cymbal than to neglect it.
If one wanted to be more uplifting, one could say, better to INCLUDE or RELY on the China cymbal than to neglect it. But that wouldn’t have made contextual sense given the wording of the original comment. It would have also been less punchy, as if my words were a crash cymbal instead of a China cymbal.
Wow, so many butthurt haters here. I agree, he's not a phenomenal drummer, there are many who are technically better than he is, but I think his drumparts are really creative, and they fit the music very well. He's not the most energetic drummer I've ever seen, but he sounds fine, he plays the music well, and he gets paid. That's more than what most of the hating youtube commenters will EVER do in their lives.
For everything in your comment, he already counts as a phenomenal drummer. He's just not as energetic to look at but he doesn't just drum for the band, he contributes heavily on their arrangements. If I were in a band, I'd pick a drummer who contributes, not just a session player.

Say what you will about his skills, he's a successful drummer that writes very creative drum parts that fit Bring Me's music. If his parts were more technical, it would just be too much and it wouldn't fit the music and impactful approach the whole band has. Just listen to Crucify Me, the drum part in that is extremely creative.

It is technical and difficult, but only because that approach fit that deathcore sort of style. Trying to apply that to their later stuff would be a disaster, just as applying his current style to that older stuff would be a disaster. He plays to fit the music around him, as he absolutely should.

The purpose of the example was to show that only someone who hadn't listened to the entire bmth discography would question matts skill, which is a right reserved for mike portnoy, thomas lang, jimmy 'the rev' sullivan (rip), terry bozio, buddy rich, neil peart, and other phenomenal drummers. matt is good but isn't the 'greatest'

He is a very good drummer. He has a very good feeling for what fits the music, writing creative and tricky parts but without overshadowing the songs.
From what I know matt is a self taught drummer pretty much and still to this day looks hella awkward playing drums it great
to me being self taught as well, he looks like he has always pushed himself to play stuff thats way out of his comfort zone and hes just adopted the awkward face you pull when trying a really tough beat for the first few times

Most times Simplicity is always better! Seeing these geezers talking shit because he isn't "technical" is fucking ridiculous.. Matt is a seriously dope drummer! Creative and doesn't overplay BMTH songs. That. That is technical.
I'm always saying stick to the groove, keep it simple and play to your strong points and yes he isn't overplaying which is great. But technique is a really important subject in playing drums, and sometimes because his technique isn't the best I find his chops to tight. I wish he had more conviction. But he's quite decent, even though I think he can improve.

Coming from a s of taught drummer I can drum a lot of bmth songs and listen to prey for plagues and a lot of their old music he is very very fucking skilled yes there are faster drummers and ones who have better technique but remember they have different genres and bmth has changed and still do change or add a genre to an album I play twenty one pilots bmth black veil brides acdc gorillaz and out of them bmth is very technical when matt is drumming
