I suggest Skye...for the sky was lit with a storm, and it literally translates to "shelter" was what you guys did at the beginning of the video.
One of my friends’ last name is Walker and I helped convince them to name their cat Skye (she was mottled grey and white, so it made sense anyway). When people put it together and realize it, it always makes my friend roll her eyes at the silliness of the combined name, but her husband and I love it. 😂 Skye Walker. Heh.

Well, if the architects were smart, they would've put a metal rod on top, connected to the rest of the tower, to create a 45+ meter lightning rod, and keep a large area safe.

Faraday Cage
Well the tower is grounded so you be safer under it
It's actually not a bad place to stand. The best way to not be struck by lightning is to be near something that's more likely to be struck by lightning. Tree's aren't a good idea because they tend to explode when struck (as you saw in this video) but a tall metal tower makes you very unlikely to be hit. Can't say I'd stand directly underneath it personally, but near it is a good idea, and underneath is probably fine...moving away from the tower would actually increase their chances of getting hit. Their best choice is the car however. Rubber tyres insulated it from the ground, turning it into a fairly reliable Faraday cage. Your car can be struck by lightning and it might get fucked, but you'll most likely be fine.

They probably would've been safer if they stood in the tower or in the sand field. Safest option was in the car. The tower is a giant lightning rod and standing within it provides (possibly) a Faraday cage (The car does an even better job at it.)

Yeah... You can’t be under a tree, or a tower. I need to double check if a car is safe... but you gotta be in the open, bent down on the ground but making little contact with the ground as possible... or in a safe shelter.
Bayos that isn’t true sadly. Lightning and the ground are opposite energies. The reason lightning goes towards earth, is because the ground it attracting it. It reaches the closest thing, and travels to the ground, it will vary a shock wave into anyone nearby.

as long as you aren't touching it it's a very safe bet as the tower is very well grounded and a good conductor making any lightning strikes to it very unlikely to jump back off of it
It's smart to stand under a metal structure, as electricity would rather go through a good conductor than a human body. It wouldn't be smart to stand on top of it, which is why they waited till the storm passed to climb to the top.

Yeah but he means that the loud boom happens almost instantly after the flash of lightning. This is because it’s extremely close (due to the different speeds of sound and light), so stanford was just meaning that *he doesn’t like it because the storm and the lightning bolts are extremely close*

Because electricity takes the path of least resistance. The tower is attached to the ground on metal legs. Thats a much easier path than jumping out of the metal to go through a human into the ground.@@awok3n431

It's actually the better option. Lightning goes for the path of least resistance. The tower legs will be closer to the earth and the base will more than likely be damp or wet meaning that it is lower than the resistance of the airgap between the legs and the guys and the human body is a few hundred thousand ohms of resistance as well.
But chances is that tower has a full lightning management system, , which is usually a bunch of wires pointing up in the earth at the top of the tower and an nice fat earthing strap.
