I once had a stylist who kept saying that I would look great with highlights. I had never colored my hair and made the mistake of assuming that she knew what she was doing. Unfortunately she didn't and she bleached all of my hair instead of just the new growth - every time! My hair had so much breakage and was so thin. I've come to the conclusion that my hair just can't handle bleach at all, though. Even if I only get the roots done and use Olaplex it still breaks like crazy. I stopped bleaching my hair a couple of years ago and it's much healthier now. I have a hair length tracking T-shirt and every month my husband takes a picture so I know it grows half an inch. ☺️
Highlights can make or break your hair. I have recently starting highlighting mine again after not doing so for a full yr. It helped that I cut my hair into a bob again but I am very detailed in explaining to my stylist my concerns. I am religious about using K18 and use it every wash a week and a half before my highlight appoint to balance it out.
WOW… this is the absolute BEST video on hair care 👍👍👍 And Thank You for including products and tools and temperatures that we should use them at… you really included everything 😃 👍👍👍 🥰
Such an informative and fun video! I’m nearing 60. I recently started wearing a 100% silk bonnet at night. This has made a huge difference with much less unruly and tangled hair in the morning 🩷
I really enjoyed this video. Very entertaining. I would love to see a video about gray hair, and super short pixie hair. Fine, thin, and GRAY oh my!! I feel like I need moisture, but it seems that any hydration weighs down my baby fine short hair. I have switched to your trifecta, and that has helped. Now I need a heat protectant for my daily blow drying.
Always informative, helpful, and highly entertaining. Best of all, very professional and enjoyable! So nice to have someone who can get through an entire video without giggling, screaming, acting like a preteen, or using "like" 10 times per sentence. BTW, any plans for a cutting/styling tutorial on the "old money bob?"
I'm actually planning a bob styling video to go up here, working on that next week! I do need to film for Styles By Summer so you might just have given me my video idea for over there 😂. Very happy to hear you enjoy the channel! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
What a great video. The little vignettes really add a lot to the video and reinforce the learning. My hair looks so much better now since I increased my protein intake and quit coloring the grays. I’m 71 with S&P color, mostly pepper and am growing it a bit longer.
Great video Summer. It was very informative and you have such a great sense of humour. I always come away with something I can use or add to my haircare routine. Thank you for sharing!
Omg, your videos though! You should win an award for Most Creative and Best Acting in the RUclips world! Ok, now question: I have been coloring my grey roots for many years. And my hair has always grown at least 1/2 inch between coloring, which was about once a month, but now about every two weeks. Does this mean my hair has never taken a vacation?
Hahaha, I have a blast filming! I want to start making bloopers lol. You either are blessed with a strong growth cycle, or it may just be that you notice the gray faster! Because we have so much hair on our head, we're technically in these phases all at the same time, if that makes sense. Certain times of the yr though some phases may seem more noticeable than others!
If you want something for volume I have been enjoying Redkens Volume Injection. It's not as drying as others so that's nice as far as volume shampoos go. If you want something that's more hydrating but not super heavy I like Loreal Prolonger. It's got tons of benefits for strengthening the hair as well and it's my go to shampoo for years when not using an actual volume shampoo. Summer, have you tried the Epres bond builder? I’ve been using it around a month the night before I wash my hair in the morning (once to twice a week) and my hair has never been this shiny in my life 😭😭😭♥️♥️♥️♥️ do you think I can replace all the others (K18, Olaplex) with just this one if I just love the results?
I clarify and deep condition my hair once a month, can/should I use a bonding treatment at the same time? I color (and trim) my hair, a normal color, every 10 weeks. I have fine, wavy hair, wash every 4th day (shampoo, condition, leave-in and styler) and either diffuse or air dry my hair. On refresh days, I add a little Olaplex No 7 bonding oil on the ends. On the whole, my hair is in fairly good condition but wondering if since I color my hair regularly I should add a bonding treatment once a month. So glad I found you, love your channel!
I made the mistake of using a blow dryer brush without heat protection. What would you recommend for a heat protectant to apply to wet hair before blow drying and also how to apply it? Do you apply in sections as you blow dry with round brush or spray all over? thank you
Yes, you have to use heat protection with a blowout brush! They can be so hot! The heat protectants I have linked in the description, that I mention in the video are great to use on wet and dry hair. On wet hair apply them by lifting your hair up in sections and spray onto hair and then brush through. You can apply the heat protectant as your last product before you blow dry. When using on dry hair you would apply it by lightly spraying onto each section before you flat iron or curl your hair. You just want it to lightly coat the hair, you don't need to soak it in heat protectant. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
@@SummerBeautyc Thank you! Another question please, if you use a leave in conditioner such as the Ouai, do you still use a regular conditioner that you rinse out?
Hi Summer. You are so entertaining 😂. I love this video very much. You are spot on with those culprits wreaking havoc! It was great to see Brutus making an appearance 😁.
This is a wonderful video with so many great tips and information. It's also enjoyable and fun to watch! One question I have is when and how often to use bond treatments. Eg, is it best to use bond treatments BEFORE highlights or AFTER? Also, could you do a future video on how to determine if your hair needs protein or moisture treatments? And could too much of either cause hair damage . . . or is "protein" vs "moisture" an "old wives' tale"?
Thanks! I will use my K18 3 shampoos straight prior to getting my highlights and then use it 3 shampoos after as well. After that I will go back to use it just weekly. I like to at least 2x a month use Olaplex No.8 as it's a hydration max. It balances everything out and gives me best of both worlds!
So very cool!! QUESTION I know it’s out of style but what about perms? I only perm every few years trying not to perm over old perm.. anything to offer on that? Thank you you’re awesome
Perms are definitely very stressful on the hair but they have come a long way from back in the day. When paired with bleach it's a double whammy but if you're only doing it every few years I'm sure it's fine. Following the steps mentioned in the video will be sure to help balance the stress a perm can cause.
This was great. Very informative, helpful & entertaining! I have a question for you. I have thicker, coarse hair (except for the crown area) and my flat iron doesn’t get my hair smooth enough unless I raise the heat to 400-425. Can you suggest anything that would help to keep the temperature at 375? Thanks, Summer!
I would try flat ironing smaller sections of hair at time so you get more control with your heat. If your section is too big it's harder for the heat to evenly distribute. When you blow dry your hair do you just rough dry, or do you use a brush at all?
Thank you for your reply. I use the round Revlon heated brush on low which helps, but bc my hair is wire-y and coarse, I still need to use the flat iron to get it smooth. Maybe my Revlon flat iron just isn’t powerful enough and I should purchase a better-quality one to use a lower heat setting?
Is your hair 100% absolutely dry from blow drying? Even the slightest amount of moisture/dampness left in the hair will cause frizz to pop out sooner. Some hair types still do need a flat iron though. I would alternate between high speed and low speed. While they do get very hot, you might need the extra heat for a few passes to help?
Breakage! After having my hair colored for 30 years, I decided to go gray. I had all the color stripped out ‘cause I was going from a level 6 to white/silver. I’d love help for caring for the white. I’m n the sun A Lot! A hat is not a solution so I need suggestions
@@SummerBeautyc Redkin Volume Injection shampoo. K18 leave in. Elizavecca vet-100. Pureology leave in. Redkin Big Blowout. Kent’s Thermal (but I’m getting the Moroccan). I've been using a hair dryer brush but I feel like it's just not working out for me so I bought a new flat iron and blow dryer.
