Congratulations Nancy, such a wonderful part of life welcoming a new bub into the family Coming from a country with a fabulous wool industry I'm proud of what we produce, out Meat Industry is 2nd to none Yes Animals need to be shorn for their own well being,my dog doesn't like a bath and puts up a fuss, still has to have it Without our Farmers they wouldn't even have a chance of enjoying a life and I'm not about yo start eating bugs To each their own, if you're not using wool or any man made fibre that is more harmful to the environment I'm not sure what you knit with...over the Activists of this world
Hi ! Thanks for sharing your nice time around Rhinebeck! Beautiful yarn purchases! Will be making the cowl !!! Thanks again for another enjoyable and inspiring episode! Happy Knitting!
Nancy, did you finish your beautiful Calliope? It inspired me to knit one too, with the same Chelsea Luxe yarn and I'm holding it with a light blue Alpaca Haze. Am working on the bottom ribbing and then it's on to the sleeves. Thanks for your podcast!
Hi Nancy, what is the pink yarn over your right shoulder? It's between the gray and the off white balls/skeins of yarn. Enjoy all of your words of wisdom regarding knitting and patterns and yarn combos. Take care.
Gosh that alpaca looked terrorised, tethered so tightly by her head. These are prey animals and don’t do well in these situations. I don’t agree with this and wouldn’t attend anything where this happens. Very unethical.
I have a daughter who is vegan does not like to wear wool. She understands about the general humaneness if shearing, but feels that sheep are exploited for the wool industry through genetic engineering etc. I don’t totally understand her arguments but if she would rather not wear wool I try to go along with her in the items I make for her. However she is an environmentalist as well, and the production of textiles is very polluting, especially in the production of cotton and other plant fibres, not to mention the horrific effects of acrylic production.
Ask her to clarify the issues you don’t understand! I wear wool but I literally can see how the sheep I get wool from are treated. Many are pets or in rare animal farms. I process my own wool when my health lets me. There’s minimal environmental impact. I’m not a saint but I can’t bear to see animals suffer as I have seen in this video, and in every Rhinebeck video I’ve watched, knitters and designers are just commenting on how adorable the animals are. It’s missing the mark of good ethics by a mile.
The raising of sheep does end up harming some. Many wool growers sell lambs for meat to supplement their wool income. I still remember the lamb chops in the freezer after a group trip to a yarn farm. 😞 I enjoy your podcasts, but please don't try to convince vegans it's ok for them to use wool or other animal products. We don't need sheep splaining. There are plenty of other yarns we enjoy knitting and will buy if we're not lectured at for not wanting wool. Glad to hear you don't eat veal or lambs. Their mom's and Dad's would love to not be eaten too.
Great podcast as always

I would guess that it’s something from Juniper Moon Yarns. 😊
