Aaaah! I knew it! My first instinct when wanting to change a specific colour to a metallic one was to mix it with silver, as I've noticed in my metallic pens that the metallic sheen is silver when the ink separates a bit. I think it's going to look gorgeous with the green I intend to change to a metallic!

I work on black more than I do on white & I blew my own mind one day by mixing black gesso with black glitter & passing it nice & thick through a stencil. It was intended to be a partial background but I loved it so much I ditched my entire plan for the pages & it effectively became “black space”. It’s still one of my favourite pages. I’m addicted to glitz & shimmer as well. For paint I love Eraldo Di Paolo’s metallic acrylics. With sprays I rate Kaisercraft’s iridescent “mists” even over Dylusions. And because sparkle is so important to me I did a swatch test of 6 shiny top coat type products. Drum roll please...Monte Marte Iridescent Varnish. All of my faves are even on the cheaper end of the scale, but I’m not sure if any other than Kaisercraft are available outside of Australia. 🤷‍♀️ It’s so hard to hold back & not overdo the sparkle when you’re die hards like us but ya do what ya gotta do!

I am so glad that you showed me this because I was just buying metallic paints today but wanted them in like 8 oz or 16 oz bottles but they only had them in like silver gold and bronze. For the life of me I could not find them in like red purple blue etc. Thank you very much and I'm going to do exactly what you suggested. Perhaps even save some money....

What mix ratio would you recommend (using the silver metallic)?

    • @KarenBurchill
      @KarenBurchill  4 месяца назад

The great thing is you can adjust the ratio and get different tones...I'd start with 50/50 and adjust as you wish...or alternatively start with less silver and add till you get desired tone

I recently bought some Golden brand Iridescent Pearl (Fine) and mixed it with some Dioxazine Violet and it created a stunning metallic look! What is great about this is you can adjust the metallic sheen by how much is added to the color.
I originally bought the Iridescent Pearl (Fine) to use straight, but after getting it home, thought I would experiment.
    I paint game miniatures.

    • @KarenBurchill

Do you want to know how to brightened /darken printed pics. I would give it a coat of clear gesso or matte medium then do a wash of color. I like using my inktense blocks for this. I think metallics would make it cloudy but shiny. Any shiny application may make it appear brighter but I’d use gloss gel medium. Good luck.

I airbrush a lot. Mostly fishing baits and you buy craft paint reduce it to a 50/50 with water and glycerin. The glycerin added to the paint coats your airbrush so it cleans out easier. The paint don't stick inside it. But I mix a lot of pearlized and metallics. By far the best method is to mix in pearlex powder pigments. By doing this you can get different color perlecents or metallics in any color. Or even ad interference colors to that.

Hi Karen, I just happen to come across your video and I loved it..Can you tell me where I can buy the Artist Loft Iridescent Medium online or what store I could buy it in? I have silver and I love the effect but I LOVE the Iridescent one the best. Thank you again. I subscribed and THUMBS UP!

Artist loft is the Michaels brand. If you are in the states I think you can order online. If not able to get that. Liquitex and golden plus other paint lines carry an irredescent medium. I will find sone and add it to my paint category in my Amazon store. Thanks for subscribing. Karen

Karen, I know you love the Liqutex Basic paints and I hope you see this, because Michaels has their tubes of Artist Loft Acrylic paints on sale for $2.00 a piece for a huge tube of 4oz. AND the Liqutex Basics are on sale too. My 4 letter favorite word is SALE and my hsb hates it..oh well, I had to explain to him about how women and sales goes... :) I got a bunch of them. The Silver and Iridescent and all the basic Colors. The Folk Art paints are about $1.79 for a little 2oz bottle. I got Metallic White, Metallic Copper, Sliver, Black, Iridescent Medium and the basic colors. I hope the Artist Loft paints are good. I couldn't pass them up for the price. I have the Folk Art paints, in fact tons of them, but I am always running out of the white and black...With such big tubes now I can mix the basics with the metallics and each other...Boy oh boy, am I going to have fun...Thank you for all the tips..Maybe you will like the BIG Tubes of the Artist Loft in the Silver, Copper and Metallic White and lets not forget the Iridescent...I LOVE shimmer, anything...lol (except for the bright blue that was the big thing in the 60's and early 70's for eye shadow...now you know how old I am) ;)

Karen, I sure hope you get some..I have been playing with the colors and for $2 you can't go wrong..and the shimmering is so fun...Thanks again for ALL Your Video's...I love the Iridescent White as well as the plain Iridescent. I am going to try to use some of mica colors in it and see what it does...

I will try too..(My memory is older than my body and forgets~lol, but true) Anyway, Lindsay, over at the Frugal Crafter uses Glycerin in EVERYTHING crafting and she has tons of advice on this kind of stuff..You might want to take a hop over to look and see what Glycerin is good for..She makes her inks, paints, mixes mica with paints and Glycerin and water, etc...and it WORKS...so that is where I got the idea...you too have fun...extra fine glitter would be fun to add, to some projects along with the Luna Silver Flakes...You got me going on all the shimmer, shiny stuff..lol so far so good... :) You might try it to and do a video as I don't know how to do that..but I bet it will work...take care, Karen, blessings, V

Want to say that Artist Loft brand acrylic paints in tubes are horrible! They inevitability dry up in the tube! Waste of money. Maybe the plastic used to hold acrylics is cheap, I now use Basics.

I have not had my Artist Loft paint dry up but I agree that Basics is a better quality. Thanks for the info. K

I’ve watched a couple of your videos and enjoy the content but the way you have your camera placed, it often seems as if the viewer is looking upside down at the desk/artwork. The camera seems to be above and looking back at the workspace. I honestly can’t watch. Has anyone else commented about this?

Sorry about that. This video is an older one..perhaps my newer ones are better. If you like my content maybe check that out..If it doesnt help I apologize. K
