If you did ecstasy at the Battle of Hastings, it would look a little like this... ;) But a good video. It was interesting to see the different speeds the various weapons moved at. The longsword really zips through the routine, compared to the longer weapons.
Matt Easton is my incentive for working out - God bless you, Matt. I have many health problems and it is very difficult for me to become motivated to exercise. Exercise is a painful, but necessary, part of my life - and you have made it easier. Thank you.
If I looked out my window and saw my neighbour going on like this, I would probably go out and ask him about it. If he turned out to be anything like Matt here, I would feel a lot safer in my heighbourhood.
Important things to notice: there is always part of the weapon between him and his opponent, or he is lining up a swing that would both strike and parry an incoming blow. Every time the axe head is drawn back is an opportunity for a strike or parry with the haft or the pommel. The circular motions of the strikes prevent the motion from pulling in elbows, wrists or shoulders, preventing tendonitis or other motion injuries such as sprains or strains. When using the Feder, he is capable of making short, quick, lethal inside-line attacks that don't require the windup of the staff or axe - this is a key advantage of a cutting or stabbing blade vs. a purely chopping or bashing weapon.
I know everyone is all excited about it but the music almost made me not finish one of these videos for the first time ever. I hung in there once i muted it. Excellent form Matt. Allthough i didnt enjoy the music i did enjoy the flourish. Thanks for sharing with us! Ive never been a fan of this type of music but to each there own.
Interesting thing I've noted with Dane axe.... Most folks I see using one lead with their dominate hand (generally right hand) as you'd do with a Longsword. While this grip makes sence in many ways & probably was used historically the Bayeux Tapestry shows most, if not all,axe men leading with the left hand. This actually makes good sense martially speaking as leading with the left hand makes your most powerful cut go diagonally from your left to your right. In the Viking age this would attack your enemy's sword side, not his shield side! Which if you attacked his shield side it's less likely you will actually hit your enemy. Also he will definitely be more likely to defend with a shield than a sword
It is not very well known, but rave has a long tradition in England, going all the way back to the 10th century. At that time, people would generally twirl great axes, the poorer ravers had to do with a staff. Unfortunately, in the early 1990s, extensive abuse of substances such as ecstasy became more and more common at the traditional axe raves which caused people to seek close company of others while dancing and that proved disastrous particularly among the great axe users. This lead to the rave ban of 1994 and subsequent replacement of axes and staffs with glowsticks. Occasionally, one can still see an odd raving axeman like the one in the video, but it is (sometimes literally) a dying tradition.
Well, that made me feel things I didn't think I'd ever feel for another man. I need to lose weight. I also need to really learn technique and do drills every day. Good lord, that looks cool.
Okay, I obviously have still some ways to go ;) But seriously, this has been quite inspiring - and has given me some nice ideas for the next training in my garden.
I can't believe we got a sneak peak of literally Jason Stathom in "Crank 8: the OCHO". Thanks Matty, this is great. Who did the video style, etc. and please tell me you were thinking of Crank?
the filter is really nice matt! adds some uniqueness and quality to the videos, and isnt hard to put in. keep it for future thumbnails, should make them a bit more interesting :=)
Looks like Matt is feeling a bit nostalgic, about his raver days in the 90's. Like most lads in those days, he'd just turn up to a field full of people in Essex, get of his face and play with giant axes.
I'm not going to lie I felt numerous emotions whilst watching this maybe it's ancestral blood from Hastings 1066 or the EDM festival's I have attended in the past I cannot decide lol, in all seriousness this was great to watch this fella has serious skills with that Dane axe . 👌
The ScholaRave, only available tonight at Matt Easton's Garden.
Lautrec Winifred think he will do some cut test with glow sticks?
Hahahah you made my day :)
#WatchYaFingys
"I know this is asking a lot, but I need an EDM dancer AND a dane axe duelist this weekend." "Say no more, fam."

"Come away from the window Edna, he'll see you!"
The colour depth makes me want to see you edited into an old Mortal Kombat game.
Ostsol You misspelled color...Murica!!
That's British English

The sword is lighter and better balanced than the staff. They all also had different routines.
You can't see it but he's actually being attacked by ninjas. They're just very very good ninjas.
The new TechnoViking!
I don't think so... not enough hair nor does he have a beard.
I mean, seriously, grow a beard already...
I came down to post exactly this comment!
No Beard...No Viking.
Just saying. Lol
He's working his axe off.
The late 90’s is strong in this one
Hahaha

This is Thrand! Looking good Matt!
Thu ert Berserkgangr!
It'd be fun to see you cutting shit up in Matt's garden
Thrand, you should make some Dane axe vids also!!
You are never going to mow the lawn carrying on like that.
He's asserting dominance over his neighbours. Jim won't dare to let his trees branches hang over the fence again.
He's scaring the lawn into not growing
Training montage from Matt Easton’s upcoming Migration Period action movie.
I thought you would have done this topless in your viking biker leathers
Reshoot!
But then how would he stay dry?
Let's all remember that the awe is sharpened
In his woven Viking™ leather gear, complete with bracers that leave the elbows uncovered.
It’s not what I was expecting but it’s not unappreciated!
Do Matt's neighbours ever look into his garden and freak out?
sweetheart is that bald man with the axe again, tell him to stay away from our trees
They know never to look in Matt's garden.
If I looked out my window and saw my neighbour going on like this, I would probably go out and ask him about it. If he turned out to be anything like Matt here, I would feel a lot safer in my heighbourhood.
I'd freak out....
and ask for a selfie.....and an autograph
"hey the neighbors dancing with his axe again."
Matt, the fluidity, and precision of your movements betray the countless hours of practice you have put in. Keep it up!
Nice video, but i'm still waiting for that follow-up on the one-handed flail vid.
If you pause the video, the weird colors makes it look like it's a painting.
Thor: Ragnarock
Watching this right as the ecstasy started kicking in...Perfection!!
Nice one!
Seems like this shaft can take a beating
TechnoViking shaved.
Excellent technique and fluidity! I need to get one of those axes, that looked like a lot of fun, and I know it was decent exercise!
Waving your big stick around, I see.
Matt really knows how to work a shaft.
This is phenomenal. Both Matt and the axe.

Yes absolutely - I try to train both sides equally.
A E S T H E T I C
I so want a Danish Long axe now. Will be watch this at a slowed speed to examine. Wonderful stuff Matt.
I like this type of video, I enjoy seeing how proper handling of the weapon looks like
Thanks for giving me some new ideas to work with!
For a moment I said, "No". However, as I watched, the reality of how you've contributed to our understandings for generations was self evident.
this is my favorite video on youtube now. I could never thank you enough for this.
"What's that whistle noise outside?" "Oh, it's just Matt smashing air zombies in his garden, dear."

Matt's a real swinger.
I hope not 🤣
One of those music tracks is from The Never Ending Story, awesome.
It does sound like it. It’s Bertysolo - Je N'oublierai Jamais
I legitimately hope this becomes one of your top viewed uploads. Really great to see you putting some of your creative self out there dude
No strobe lights?
This is the best thing I have ever seen
Good ravin matt. I can imagine carpenter brut playing over this
How good is his latest album? I haven't listened to synthwave in a while, still stuck in a long Rush bing, but I've been wanting to listen to it
This is how a real man exercises.
[EDIT] Also, I'm the 100th like.
Impeccable taste in music. :P
THE MOST PERFECT VIDEO EVER
I approve of the nostalgic techno music.
The music shouldn't work... but it works! 😂
The dane axe appears a bit unwieldy, but your longsword and staff work are admirable. Very beautiful to watch.
Flourish videos always make me want to flourish :D
*watching someone lag out mid dungeon...
This video was amazing! And for some reason quite relaxing...
Matt is the REAL Techno Viking! ^_^
Absolutely love your choice of music. And I liked this vid, would watch more like it.
Gotta like it just for the choice of soundtrack 😉
This was awesome. Very satisfying to watch.
I like this. no flash, just everything kills
Matt Easton's boss theme.
Love the choice of music. An old school DnB
Matt Easton brilliantly handling that shaft
Alternate title option; "Matt Easton being a big kid like we know all of us do sometimes".... Hahahaha
Can you show us your full armour? And perhaps do some flourishes in it?
Impressive! Good job from France
This is the kind of kink I didn't know I had.
Last song: Bertysolo - Je N'oublierai Jamais
The longsword workout looks freaking awesome. I think I can imagine Ser Arthur Dayne's fight sequence in the novels better after this.
I enjoyed your soundtrack man. Left the video on while sketching
That axe still looks magnificent...wish I could afford getting one myself.
My new favorite video of yours.
Super smooth form and body mechanics....!!
I'll use the video as a drill reference for practice if you don't mind.
Matt Easton, the other other Star Wars kid. :P
More like this, please. Very impressive!
Im having 90's flashbacks..... glowsticks everywhere glowsticks......
"It's murder on the dance floor..."
It´s scary how fast such a big axe can be handled. Just imagine a 7ft Viking charging at you with one of these.
Matt going hard on that Garage/DnB beat
Okay, I obviously have still some ways to go ;) But seriously, this has been quite inspiring - and has given me some nice ideas for the next training in my garden.
This is almost hypnotising somehow...
"Focus on the axeblade - your eyelids become heavy..."
the form at 5:24 was interesting "fighting with dane axe inside/close quarters"
I can't believe we got a sneak peak of literally Jason Stathom in "Crank 8: the OCHO". Thanks Matty, this is great. Who did the video style, etc. and please tell me you were thinking of Crank?
Great Motivation video thanks 👍👍💪💪
My technical observation: that was fucking awesome!
No tree was hurt in the making of this vid..
+ohthreefiftyone he was the better version of the guy @ 1:50 in this: ruclips.net/video/MV5w262XvCU/видео.html
What the hell is up with the colors?

Draugr_the_Greedy
You need better internet
+Draugr_the_Greedy what colors? they're perfectly fine on my screen...
Não conhecia técnicas de combate com Machado. Ótima instrução,muito bom
Edge: aligned. Satisfying. I wasn't expecting this music from Matt! I can't say I was overly impressed, but he should get on to The Gasman.
Jump in the deep end with Inept Whoop
Selekta!! Archers fire when ready!
Matt, you should do this in front of a green screen. I hear it will make you live forever.
man, i haven't listened to prodigy in YEARS.
Bloody hell!
I swear we have the same garden.
I wonder why they didn’t put a spike at the end and make it a poleaxe. It seems very fitting looking at you swinging and poking the axe around.
the filter is really nice matt! adds some uniqueness and quality to the videos, and isnt hard to put in. keep it for future thumbnails, should make them a bit more interesting :=)
You can see the correlation between dancing ,and fighting well yeah?
4:10 almost chopped my head off lol
It was interesting to see how that weapon is used. its cool to see what can be done with it.
Nidhogg 3 is looking pretty damn funky
Looks like Matt is feeling a bit nostalgic, about his raver days in the 90's. Like most lads in those days, he'd just turn up to a field full of people in Essex, get of his face and play with giant axes.
You're a raider! Legendary!
