The most common line I use with anything like this (timeshare, car, whatever) is "I don't make big financial decisions like this without sleeping on it".
You got that right. We are proud vacation club owners with HGVC since 2008. Me and my wife, took a year to decide, if we wanted to purchase or not. We paid cash, so we only pay maintenance fees and taxes. It was funny, we wouldn't budge on buying and they sold us for, $150, a VIP five day stay in an Orland Fl. two-bedroom condo unit. (We we're going to Disney World, for the first time) We had a great time and that's when we made our purchase. We knew we wanted to buy, before our trip. We played hard to get for about an hour, having them to go down on the price, then told them we wanted to buy and pay cash. You should have saw the look on that guy's face. Needless to say, it's been a blessing for us.
I got to sit through a 2-hour long complete and utter torture listening to a lady waste my time trying to convince me of buying a time share in Florida. She kept bringing down the price and I very firmly kept saying “NO”! I was so angry because she wouldn’t let me leave for an appointment I had elsewhere. She didn’t win though. I did not give in… THANK GOD! She was fuming when I got up and left! 😏
How did she not let you leave? I hear stories about them locking the door so no one can leave the room, but I always wondered if that would be considered 'kidnapping' because you are detained against your will.

Ken Coleman, " How simpleminded do you think I am." That's the truth if you bought a time share you are a half-wit. I think caller should be more worried about this.

Dave is a threat to the timeshore industry and i have lots of respect for him to stand up to those clowns , despite them fighting dirty.
I've gotten many free events, car rentals & once a trip to Vegas and never bought. I ask for their calculator and multiply their asking price times 52 weeks and ask: do you mean to tell me you are selling this little one bedroom condo for hundreds of thousands of dollar PLUS a hefty, ever increasing, maintenence fee? Then they shut up
I inherited a timeshare from my grandparents. Luckily it was paid off, but I had to pay the maintenance fees which continued to increase. I had to pay a lawyer to get out of the timeshare. It was the best decision I made to get rid of it. And Dave is right, someone ended up buying my timeshare for a $1.
@@JWalton314 You can’t be forced, and transferring title required paperwork and I’m sure a notarized signature. I think she must have done all of this not knowing this gift was problematic. She only learned that after owning it awhile.
I wasn’t forced to take it. I was in my early 20’s when I was gifted it. I also went on multiple trips with my grandparents and we used their timeshare when they were alive and healthy. Luckily a few years after I inherited it, my friend worked for a business that helped folks get out of timeshares. She helped me with the process and I also got a small discount regarding the fees. I got rid of my timeshare over 10 years ago, and thank god I did.

My neighbors bought a timeshare in Mexico. They refer to it as “our resort that we own.” They tried to unload the week of Thanksgiving on me once. Yeah, right . . . 😂
We stayed at a time share condo for less than the maintenance fees. We happened to find a deal for a week and talked to a time share owner. He was so disheartened to hear that we paid far less for the week than he pays for in yearly dues for his week. Cheaper trip and no loan or commitment!
With the amount of fraud that goes on and unscrupulous and predatory behavior in the timeshare, industry. Why haven't these horrible investments been deemed illegal? So glad I got out of this horrible money pit years ago.
I went to a timeshare presentation in Mexico and they enticed us with free breakfast and some free outdoor activities like jet skis and going parasailing so we went and the timeshare rep sat with us at the table as we were eating and tried to get us to buy. We told him we weren’t the entire time and he kept asking why. Super pushy. I was barely 18 at the time and we made a quick exit as soon as we could lol. Needless to say we didn’t even enjoy the free breakfast and didn’t even ask about the free activities we just wanted out !
I went to a resort in Mexico. We saw a really attractive man at breakfast every morning. He was dressed for vacation, but expensively. He’d say good morning, then have breakfast with a couple. Different people every morning. One day he explained that he worked for the company and was “meeting with the investors.” Turns out he was selling timeshares. Lol. I thought these were wealthy people checking up on the property.

The Ramsey Show should buy a timeshare and then do a series showing the frustration of trying to book a property, the places they actually get to go (they won’t be the beautiful resorts or posh European hotels advertised in the brochure) and the bills.
My in laws have a timeshare in Florida. Its a very basic condo in a small beach front community. When we visit them, we can book a nicer place in the same area for less money every time. They are simple people who were sooooo proud of their "Florida place" the first couple years, then every year they go less and less and seem to love it wayyy less. They sell their unwanted weeks occasionally for more money like a peak season, but more often they go unused. Deep down I'm sure they know they wasted their money but they're way to proud to admit it.
I believe they can effectively make a documentary or series w/o subjecting another person to that slavery. "Borrowed Future" didn't have anyone go into student loan debt just for the documentary to happen. Talking to the victims is enough.
@@autistic-lutheran-carnivore The Ramsey Show isn’t a “person” being “subjected to slavery.” It’s a corporation and all the costs would be business expense. Timeshares have got to be the all time worst financial decision & regret that anyone could ever make. At least with payday loans you can pay off and wholelife insurance you can sell that day and get out of it. But with timeshares, no matter what you do, you can't get rid of those leaches. I've never had one, thank God. But by hearing some of these calls, it sounds like once you are in one you are in one for life no matter what you do or how much money you have thrown to them. Whats the problem with whole life insurance anyway?! Dave doesn't talk about it as much as he does timeshares or at least I haven't seen those videos yet.
Had a friend that sold timeshares just to see if he could do it. Told me they have a system called “the power” and its for the top salesmen and its the only people who make any real money. So the bottom 90 percent are trying to make it the power by outselling. No other thing puts you there.

Me and my wife went to one the those meetings and they almost got us. We eventually said no but they kept on sending new presenters until we walked out.
I went to a time share event, ate the free breakfast listened to the presentation then left. My sister and were broke single parents on vacation. We just saw it as a free meal for us and our kids.
I used Wesley Financial to get out of my timeshare. But mine was paid off. Not sure how difficult it would be with an outstanding mortgage. It cost about $4500.
My ex husband dragged me to a time share meeting. He was all in. I stood my ground and said “ we want the free dinner and will talk about this” got the lousy food and left.
@@wittyusername9544 People who buy timeshares do not have a clue about booking a resort/condo/hotel on their own. You pick up the phone! Or search online! And save $100's/$1000's!!
Mobile parks are the same, you will get stuck and won’t get out. You can’t rent your house and if you try and sell, they have to approve for next person to come in, if they don’t like you they won’t allow anyone to replace you.
I always lie to the liars. When I get approached, I say I just lost my 30k a year job. When I go anyplace selling services for a home ie windows or hvac. Sorry I rent an apartment.
Timeshares should be made ILLEGAL. Never, EVER, EVER sign up for a Timeshare...EVER. Good luck ...GET A LAWYER. My aunt and uncle took YEARS to get rid of their Shitshare. Basically, it took a professional company to finally CUT THEM free from this financial NIGHTMARE.
I've done about a half-dozen of these, never spent a penny, and always got the free weekend hotel/trip/gift. If you are not capable of saying no, I get it. - don't do it. But I could care less if someone asks me if I love my family. LOL - please. The answer is I am not buying anything, so you may as well move onto someone else. And then I stop talking and just stare blankly at them. It works.
I don't know why people buy these worthless things. 40 years ago we listened to a presentation and just said no. They kept trying, we kept saying no. They gave us our tickets to a show right away and we kept saying no. Haven't gone to one since. They gave up when I said, "I can go on a lot of vacations for what that costs for one week."
My husband and I visited a timeshare presentation with the intent to receive the free items. That's what we did. I received a fur coat and a TV. We didn't purchase anything. We were not about to be scammed.
"I'd like to go in there with a hidden camera." Timeshares know that trick. If you start poisoning the well (that is, your fellow audience in the sales room) with good arguments or confident rebuttals, they will kick you out. Some of them will "invite" you to a special room where they will sit you down and just leave you there alone indefinitely just to punish you.
We got many of those offers for free but we have to join a meeting. I was dropping their calls for months. My husband wanted to go and get free vacation and not buying any package, I said I am not and never going there. go by yourself. So he didn’t.
They're not calling them time shares anymore, thanks in part to you Dave. Keep up the good work and keep after them, whatever they are calling thier product
Wishful thinking after being lied to about how they truthfully operate and what you are truly purchasing. It's a con that the buyer will have an asset for life with easy access to other timeshares in which over time is well worth it's investment. These guys would sell their own mother to make a car purchase.
It's a con. I bought a Wyndham "vacation rental". They sold it to me as "It's not a time share, you're not buying stake in one resort. You're buying the ability to stay in any Wyndham hotel or resort at no additional cost, except local taxes." Working on getting out of it now.
We did it on 2018 while in vacation on Florida. I couldn’t sleep that night so I called and cancelled. Send all the paperwork needed and certified the mail I sent for cancellation. We were blessed we were in time to cancel.
There was at least one that did a radio contest and everyone that called in they declared the winner. I know because I called the number again and they professed I had won again. Free trip to Florida or Las Vegas. Have not heard the contest again since but after looking over the paperwork they sent me I realized that it was a timeshare scheme. Never went of course. Thankfully I never went!
I took a trip to Mexico for a friends wedding. My friends all went to presentation for something I can’t remember what. They all tried to get me to go along and I just wouldn’t go. I can’t even remember what they were offering but it wasn’t worth wasting two or more hours of my trip to me. So I spent the time they sat in the pool with a drink.
To not allow someone to leave the room is kidnapping. And should be a chargeable offense. Also, it is your money to spend or not spend - you need to be responsible and protect yourself. Believe me I have made my share of mistakes financially but this is one I have not made - thank goodness. My brother owns one timeshare and my sister in law at least one.
I cannot believe timeshares are still a thing. Thought they were a stupid idea back in the 80s, and expected it to die out by the 90s. And do they seriously lock you in the room and not let you out unless you sign? Right then I would say "unlawful imprisonment suit coming your way, and even with the winnings I would not buy one of these things"
Went to a timeshare presentation once. Couldn't get out, so played a Dave Ramsey timeshare rant on full volume on my phone. It was a free pass out!

i would like to see Dave go head to head with one of the bosses of these timeshare companies . (im hinting at an idea for a video ) . that would also be an interesting video the one Ken had about the hidden camera.
Me and my wife went to one the those meetings and they almost got us. We eventually said no but they kept on sending new presenters until we walked out.
Yes, send a hidden camera in! I have never been even offered a time share but I’d love to see an obnoxious sales person shut down
I went to a time share event, ate the free breakfast listened to the presentation then left. My sister and were broke single parents on vacation. We just saw it as a free meal for us and our kids.
You guys have GOT to do that show!
Needing a time share to rent a condo is like needing an HOA to buy a house.
HOA fees are not the same as a timeshare, at all.
You would think AirBnB would have put these people out of business but people still fall for it.
@@wittyusername9544 People who buy timeshares do not have a clue about booking a resort/condo/hotel on their own.
You pick up the phone! Or search online! And save $100's/$1000's!!
Hoa is completely different.. lol
@@soonermagic24 But equally horrible.
Please Ken do it! It would be great to watch:)
I’d pay to see Ken Coleman go in with a mic.
airbnb make timeshare uterlly useless now
Let's do it! I'll go along too.
How to wake Ramsey up? Say the word TIMESHARE!!!!!
It’s like a cattle prod. Lol
I went to one of these presentations in Cozumel. NEVER AGAIN! I don't have enough lifespan left to waste any in a timeshare presentation.
Do it Ken! Go stir it up!
You should definitely do that and go to a timeshare meeting. You would go viral.
Ken, please go undercover to the Time Share presentation! You would be an instant viral sensation. I would love to see what you would do to them.
We got many of those offers for free but we have to join a meeting. I was dropping their calls for months.
My husband wanted to go and get free vacation and not buying any package, I said I am not and never going there. go by yourself.
So he didn’t.
Ken, you need to go undercover and then post online. Looking foreward to that RUclips video
Dave PLEASE PLEASE send him in with a mic. I would die laughing hahahahaha
Please send him in with a camera. I’d love to see what goes on in these presentations and I’d LOVE to see him send them three the ringer.
They're not calling them time shares anymore, thanks in part to you Dave. Keep up the good work and keep after them, whatever they are calling thier product
what are they called now?
Please do the hidden camera video! I’d pay to watch that comedy 😂
Ya the under cover documentary on time share would be great follow up to borrowed future!!!!
Anyone with Time Shares, what is the point of buying one... I am curious.
Nobody really knows the answer LOL
A free vacation.
There is no reason.
You're buying the ability to stay in any Wyndham hotel or resort at no additional cost, except local taxes."
Working on getting out of it now.
Send Ken in!!!!
The worst decision would've been to not try and fight it. I wish them the best to get out of this mess!
“Spiritual gift of confrontation!”
Hidden camera! Do it! 😂
We did it on 2018 while in vacation on Florida. I couldn’t sleep that night so I called and cancelled. Send all the paperwork needed and certified the mail I sent for cancellation. We were blessed we were in time to cancel.
Please please do the hidden camera thing!!!!
Why would u sign if u don’t want ?
Even though time shares are bear traps, there should be other types of exit teams. Ever try to cancel your cable or phone plan?
I took a trip to Mexico for a friends wedding. My friends all went to presentation for something I can’t remember what. They all tried to get me to go along and I just wouldn’t go. I can’t even remember what they were offering but it wasn’t worth wasting two or more hours of my trip to me. So I spent the time they sat in the pool with a drink.
People need to know when Dave is doing a ad and when he is doing his thing.
Ken would walk out of there the proud owner of a timeshare.
I do well at those time share meetings. They usually can’t wait to get rid of me.
I went to a timeshare meeting just for the free breakfast. I had no idea what it was but knew I wasn't about to give them my money.
The spiritual gift of confrontation. Classic
Um... It's only $14k. Just get it paid off and then do what you want with it. Either use it or sell it or let it go.
