I went for the first time in 1990 with a couple of friends it was okay I went back in 1992 I've been going every year since I love going to Las Vegas but only for 3 days and only in the summertime
I really miss this era in Vegas. Nowadays the only thing worse than the odds are the service. Corporate Vegas has really sucked the fun out of this once unique town.
I have been going to vegas since 2009 (21st birthday), and whereas it was nothing like this, it has still changed so much in the last 9 years. I watch this video every year before my annual trip and it has a nostalgic appeal to it, even though I wasn't lucky enough to have gone in the early days. No other citys history does that for me
So many of the old places are gone now. . . . Stardust, Westward Ho, Sahara, Frontier, Desert Inn, Dunes, Sands, Hacienda, the Marina, Silverbird (later Thunderbird and then El Rancho), Silver City. *****SIGH*****
When the Hotels room were cheap and the food was cheap and good unlike today. Sahara is now the SLS ,Las Vegas Hilton is now the Westgate, Aladin is now the Planethollywood. Worse things Vegas made was covering freemont street. Miss the old lion at the MGM they brought it down because some chinese people complained that it was bad luck for them to enter a lions head. Too many changes to post here.
The lion's head at MGM Grand is now home to Hakkasan Nightclub, with $50-$100 cover charges, $10 beers, and $20 cocktails. LOL! Shame on Tiesto and MGM.
sprdvx it *is* sterile All that's left are the hookers. Everything that made Vegas "Vegas" went away long ago. At least in the late 90s/00s Vegas at least operated as a sort of Disneyland-tier place, with all the themed hotel/casinos and shows and shops. Now it's just a bland corporate nothing filled with modernist hotels that only the uber rich can afford to enjoy.
I went a week ago it looks like Hollywood Boulevard people dressed up and Superman costumes show girls walking around the strip asking do you want to take a picture with them I even seen Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse what a shame
I remember going to Vegas the year after this video was made and Luxor and Treasure Island had just opened and Excalibur and The Mirage less than 5 years old. Those were some awesome places to see for the first time especially since I was 16 years old. I liked all the eye candy
Early-mid 90s- the sweet spot for Vegas. Perfect blend of the old and new. That very last scene is telling. The Las Vegas sign was still out by itself. Now you can't get near the thing.
Superb video. Thank you. Brings back memories. Vegas back then felt like an exclusive club with plenty of cozy, cameral casinos. City taylor made for gamblers and those who love night life. Now, it's just big corporations, boring, families with kids. This city aura is long gone.
Thanks for posting this. This is about when the Strip started to transform away from the great neon lights to the high-def marquees. While I certainly love Vegas now, I do miss the old character. Great video.
Oh yeah I remember that I went to Vegas the second time in 1992 we stayed at the Travelodge Hotel that was on the strip kind of next to Sands and Harris Hotel
7:57 the rarely seen or acknowledged Circus Circus tram. Even more rare, paired next to the construction of Grand Slam Canyon (Adventuredome) TRULY A UNIQUE PART OF THE VIDEO ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS 😁
Exactly. I would rather see Stardust still there since nothing has happened. I go there quite often and keep hoping they will at least continue with that instead of seeing mostly empty lots there. Even worse is the Fontainebleau on the other side of the street from Circus Circus and across from Riviera. That building got all the way to the point of being topped out and is now just sitting there rotting. It's sad.
I live in this town for more than 20 years, it's still good as it was before, it's just they've changed a lot of things here, and they've taken many of the things I got to do when I was a kid, like they took out the lion exhibit at the mgm grand and closed the rainforest cafe ther, the toy store at Caesar's palace with the original entrance to the forum shops mall, the show in the sky at the Rio, the gameworks by the m&m store, they took out the moat at Excalibur, the pirate show at treasure island, the secret garden dolphin habitat at the mirage, they took out the star trek exhibition at the Hilton now Westgate, they changed the Arabian attire at the miracle mile shops mall at planet Hollywood aka Aladdin, they took out some of the rides at adventuredome at circus circus. The vegas I knew is gone but not forgotten
Back when it was still worth going to see. Now it's just another shopping mall. Dull and no character. And they destroyed Freemont Street. I remember when they were clearing the lot to build this new hotel that was going to be sooooo spectacular: Excalibur! Now Excalibur is just a musty-smelling bedbug farm.
my family would drive to vegas from la like once a quarter. it was always amazing to me how many california license plates i saw. i was in line at the excalibur buffet and chatted up with a boy my age and we found out he goes to a high school close by.
last time I was there MGM was one of the towers from Marina and the foundation was being built and Treasure Island was in progress of being built, I don't believe ground for Luxor was broken yet. The 3 "new" casinos were Excalibur, Rio, and everyone was raving about Mirage. Back when you new you won by the sound of coins hitting the metal tray. I thought it was '92 but now wondering if it was earlier.
One thing I’ve noticed with these vintage Vegas videos is the presence of gas stations along the strip. Today, there doesn’t seem to be any. Interesting.
I miss Las Venturas and CJ. There will never be game as san andreas and time like 80s and 90s again :(
What??? Big smoke I taught u are already dead? What happened? 🤭
@@classicschannel. he respawned at the nearest hospital
wait to mafia 4, It seems like the action takes place in Las Vegas and in the 70s
Noobs
Las Venturas 😪❤
YeahChichis 11 GTA Sanandreas :'v
Yeah bro, memories and nostalgia from gta sa :(
Yessir
That's exactly how it looks in San Andreas
I went in 1995 for my 21rst birthday. The way you were treated back then regardless of how much you gambled was night and day from today.
I went for the first time in 1990 with a couple of friends it was okay I went back in 1992 I've been going every year since I love going to Las Vegas but only for 3 days and only in the summertime
reminds me of gta san andreas
I turned 21 in 92, but made it out to vegas for the first time in July of 93. It was awesome!!!
That's interesting did you gamble a lot
I was 12 and in 1992 was my first time in Las Vegas. This brings back memories of how I remembered from back then. Thanks for the upload.
And you saw CJ sure.
Las Venturas from gta San Andreas looks exactly like that
I really miss this era in Vegas. Nowadays the only thing worse than the odds are the service. Corporate Vegas has really sucked the fun out of this once unique town.
It was a totally different world.

So, so, so truly LUCKY to have been a part of that world 😎
THE AESTHETIC OF THE 90s LET US BE BLESSED.
Exactly amen I went every year in the 90s except for 91
@@1990758 it was sad to see how The Golden Nugget remodeled their exterior
I WAS THERE 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 in late August 94... it was truly legendary... one of the high points of my life 😎😎😎
My first trip to Vegas was in 1992. This video brings back so many fantastic memories. Love the music too!!!
My first time as well. August 22nd 1992
This was the best era in Vegas for me!!
So many of the old places are gone now. . . . Stardust, Westward Ho, Sahara, Frontier, Desert Inn, Dunes, Sands, Hacienda, the Marina, Silverbird (later Thunderbird and then El Rancho), Silver City.

When did they take out the Sahara? Was there in 2011 and saw it.
+ScorpioBornIn69 Closed in 2011, according to internet sources I found. Last year, it reopened as the SLS Las Vegas.
Don't forget the riviera
either the tropicana or circus circus will be next.. or even flamingo...
Ma St no NOT FLAMINGO!!!!
The old casinos were full of character, walk in lay a quick bet and grab a free corona and be on your way
Thanks! I turned 21 in 1992 and went to vegas. Ahhh memories.
gta san andreas
Carlos Eduardo I still play GTA SA and go to las Venturas because Vegas is my favorite city in the world
DIAMLER I was watching this to see what gta san andreas got right as far as the casinos go
That’s what I’m saying
Just a live motion picture of Las Venturas from GTA San Andreas & mind you it was set in the same year

So where's CJ?
In The LINQ
He is following the god damn train.. well it's not unlocked yet 🤷🤷
It looks like it had so much more character back then. Now the strip looks sterile.
sprdvx yeah it's because the new casinos lack the neon lights
sprdvx it *is* sterile

Yep
A video from the 90s is givin me 2000s vibes and the music remind me on the yt in 2011
This is exactly how Vegas looked when I first went. Now today, it doesn't look anything like this when I turned 30 last year.
*UPDATE* Implosion of The Riviera's Monaco Tower has succeeded.
Nice. It was closed the last time I went.
I went a week ago it looks like Hollywood Boulevard people dressed up and Superman costumes show girls walking around the strip asking do you want to take a picture with them I even seen Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse what a shame
This is the Vegas I remember🥲
Great upload. Loved the old Vegas. Thanks
My first trip to Vegas was right after getting married in March of 1992. Been there many times since then. This video was nostalgic for me.
felt like a kid going to Disneyland back then
I remember going to Vegas the year after this video was made and Luxor and Treasure Island had just opened and Excalibur and The Mirage less than 5 years old. Those were some awesome places to see for the first time especially since I was 16 years old. I liked all the eye candy

The real Las Venturas, CJ is driving around with Ceaser and his sister Kendl is recording it. hahahaha.
Fuck I miss this vegas
My 1st trip to LV was in 2016. My Father, however, went there a lot in the early 90s. This is what he would have seen.
Your father must have had a good time. Vegas nineties were the best.
Everything was better in the 90s. Any footage of any town, city, or even mall looked 100x better than what everything looks like today
That is accurate.
You're one thousand percent right.
Sure miss the old Vegas.. Been going since 1980 and still go every year but it sure is different..Ty for posting and good job.
Thank you so much for taking us along. Pretty good clip and you covered a lot of properties I remember mostly.
Good old days..first time in Vegas 1992 was 22 yrs old..
Thanks for posting this. This is about when the Strip started to transform away from the great neon lights to the high-def marquees. While I certainly love Vegas now, I do miss the old character. Great video.
Weird to see you drive down Fremont. You haven't been able to do that in like 20 years.
Oh yeah I remember that I went to Vegas the second time in 1992 we stayed at the Travelodge Hotel that was on the strip kind of next to Sands and Harris Hotel
"Did you steal your license?" Cj, 1992
Awesome footage. Great music as well. I love seeing videos of what Vegas looked like before I ever set foot there.
Man 009 goes so well with old vegas footage
Days gone by... wish I could hop in a time machine to this time

I'd take 90's Vegas over today's Vegas anyday.
I like the old vegas, the current vegas is beyond over pretentious

I was researching some casinos and I noticed some of them were built after GTA: SA takes place so I just looked this up.
I used to live there and looks nothing like today and I still live there when this video was released
las venturas
Great footage from the Strip and Fremont, 20 years ago. Thanks for posting!
I remember being 11 years old and eating at a buffet at the Riviera for the first time. I just turned 40 this year.
