Thanks so much Grant, that’s great to hear and we agree! There needs to be a lot more education and potentially a licence for towing. Thanks for your support.
Great information. I have just showed hubby the bit about the hooks as we also have the yellow ones, we will need to see if they are AS if not off to buy the morby hooks.
Excellent work Kath, we got ours from Autobarn or Supercheap and no one tells us they are for lifting 3.5t not towing 3.5t. So glad Leon helped us out!
Awesome video guys so much amazing information we weighed ours at the weigh bridge next is the professional weigh then again before we leave in October to give piece of mind
Hi guys, a great informative video like yourselves, we have been checking weights also, we tow with LC200 2500kg single axle 260 kg TBW ,with cruisers easy to exceed the 1950 kg rear axle max load. TBW x 1.5 gives the approximate kgs on the rear axle .With the 300 series, the rear axle & GCM is lower than the 200 series puzzling why Toyota would do this. Safe travels.
Hi Ian, thanks for watching. Yeah it is a bit puzzling l think Toyota was trying to make the 300 a bit lighter and more fuel efficient. doesn't give you a lot of payload. Safe travelling 🍻
Very interesting results. The weighbridge was 5.7T GCM and the specialist was 6.087T. For an initial weigh in and information the specialist would be great. But for further weighing on departure for a long trip a public weighbridge should be acceptable. It's within 10% (actual 6.8%) which for many practical purposes is OK but I think most people would hope for a closer result. I wonder how you would go on a road side check with compliant weighbridge weight documentation.
Good points there! When I went to the weighbridge I don’t think I had a full tank of fuel or the water tanks filled up. Also Troy & Coco weren’t in the car nor the allowance for Harrison or all of Troy’s tools so there were some factors for being much lighter. We had a lot of things in the van when Leon came over because he told us to pack the van as if we’re doing our big lap so we needed everything included. It was a great exercise and we’ll do it again before we take off.
I have the same thaught about weighbridge document or a professional weight printout, would they take it into consideration. I am thinking NO and just go on what their scales reveal at that time. I haven't been weighted buy police or inspectors yet so have not been able to quiz them on their expectations. Would be interesting to know.
Giving information on safe towing weights and the best way to weigh your setup and yet you had no towing mirrors used for a van wider than the towing vehicle. Good info on the weights though.
There is a job well done. $330 well spent, how long does it take to do? (not counting having to move outside) (i'm in wa so price may vary, but i will flip the towbar tounge.)
Hey Colin! Leon allows 2 hours for the weigh & report however can stay longer if need be at no extra cost. There should be companies in WA that do the same thing and can come to you.
Awesome as always Laura and Troy. Y'all always have great content and no matter what and you are always informative. Thank you for sharing all your awesome videos and for all the hard work and time you put into each video. Y'all are truly Awesome. Oh ya Laura you killed it (rocked it) with the backing up with a trailer hitched. You did totally Awesome. Greatly job. I've never seen a woman that could drive like that. Lol I've seen 🤣 😂 men that couldn't do it at all. You did 100 times better than them lol 😆 STAY AWESOME KEEP ADVENTURING GOD BLESS Y'ALL 🤗HUGS🤗
Just a note may pay to check if you are allowed to turn your tow hitch upside down reason being on my 200 series it state you are not allowed to invert it, interesting process though we had ours done last year when absolutely fully loaded and passed the test but we have had a GVM upgrade also
Hey Michael good point. We actually changed our hitch a while ago so haven’t had the Toyota hitch for a while. The new one didn’t have any stickers on it to say we couldn’t invert it, Leon checked that too. We definitely need a GVM & GCM upgrade but only when cost effective down the track.
Can you advise what tow tongue you are using that allows you to invert and still have a tow capacity of 3,500kg?I’m sure there are al lot of people other than myself that would like to know where to get one. I have the Toyota off-road tongue which can’t be inverted.
Should have mentioned I love watching your eps. Keep up the great work. Really useful content in all shows, but particularly in the weights one. Kudos to Laura for taking the van through the BP and then backings it into the shed!!!!!
Thanks so much Stuart, that’s really nice to hear that you’re enjoying our content! It definitely helps us as creators with the feedback. Oh that BP weighbridge was frustrating but backing into the factory is an experience that’s for sure!
Where was the public weighbridge you used and how much did it cost? I have a 200 series Landcruiser with a lot of added weight incuding accessories and long range fuel tank so want to weigh it to ensure I am below GVM.
Hey Peter, it was at BP Dandenong Truck Stop. There are a few BP’s in VIC that have these public weigh bridges for use. It’s $40 for a weigh and well worth it if just needing to weigh your car.
Dont about keeping the left to right weights even with some of the wicked road cambers we have. Your left to right difference of 4kg will soon turn to 40 to 100kg to the left once on the road. Always keep a liitle more on the right.
Awesome content , I've been watching my body weight ( lol 😆 ) It's important , the vehicle and van has to be legal on the roads , to avoid unnecessary damage , informative 👍 Greetings Mate from south africa 🍻 🇿🇦
People keep getting GVM upgrades.. Yes they are legal but there is a MASSIVE flaw. Your roof is a ROPS..Roll Over Protective Structure. Now that was designed to handle the weight of the STANDARD vehicle in a roll over. Now to increase the load on the ROPS in the event of a rollover due to a GVM increase, seems to me to be so wrong without adding a rollcage. Which in itself will add a heap more weight... constantly chasing your tail just to carry more crap and decrease the chances of surviving a rollover.. it's madness. I was going a GVM upgrade but due to the obvious flaw in SAFETY I will no longer go down this road or buy a vehicle that has this upgrade. I'm glad you guys are concious of weights and being legal etc but please think about the point of have just made more so if you have children.
Good points Brett. Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes it’s interesting because if you read your manufacturer manual it will state what the roof can hold and then depending on what roof racks you put on, that has a weight limit too. Not many people follow these regulations. 🙃
Great vid. We still need lots more education and awareness around vehicle and towing weights. And thanks Leon. 🙌
Thanks so much Grant, that’s great to hear and we agree! There needs to be a lot more education and potentially a licence for towing. Thanks for your support.
Thanks. I need to go through the weighing procedure and it helps me get an understanding of how it is done.
Thanks for watching, It's great to hear you found the episode informative 👍
this was a great video guys for me .for when i buy my new caravan 😊
That's great to hear GOEFF thanks for watching and commenting 👍

Good video and some nice backing there.
Thanks very much Michael and for your kind words.
Awesome video guys so much amazing information we weighed ours at the weigh bridge next is the professional weigh then again before we leave in October to give piece of mind
Cheers, thanks for tuning in. Yeah 💯 great idea 👍. We'll look at doing the same after a few car mods 🍻
Great video I'm definitely getting my prado and 18.6 great Aussie van weighed professionally thanks for the video
That's great Graham 👍 thanks for watching 🍻
Very informative job well done
Thanks KB!
Thanks Troy & Laura, just wondering if flipping the hitch made any difference to the driving?
Hi Julie, thanks for watching and commenting. It made a huge difference the van sits a lot more level now and tows much better 😀

A set of towing mirrors might be a good idea.
Hi Malcolm, if you have the engineering solutions for MSA or Clearview, that would be ideal 🥰
Giving information on safe towing weights and the best way to weigh your setup and yet you had no towing mirrors used for a van wider than the towing vehicle. Good info on the weights though.
Haha, we were parked out the front of our factory, Pretty sure mirrors aren't required 😄 .

Laura does an amazing job towing hence how l can fall asleep sitting alongside her 😍.

Hi Stuart,
You can try Mister hitches this is Reversible and adjustable it's rated to 4ton

You need to put it in N before you shift to low range. It’s beeping because you haven’t successfully put it in low range.
Thank's Blair we will give it a go tomorrow beach driving 🍻
Same as new hilux. Beep beep beep until I did the same.

There is a weigh bridge at the BP on right hand side heading into heading into Melbourne.
@@katherineporter2654 yeah plenty around, Dandenong, Eastlink, Monash Fwy, Western Fwy
@@JourneyUnknown There is a free Vic Roads one at Broadford Vic along the freeway heading north.

Absolutely! Towing is not easy so we need to be compliant and safe in all areas! Thanks for watching and commenting Yusuf.
Choosing the longer size of dummy weighing pads(ramps)shall be better for lady’driving😅
That's a bit rough
