In 1975 that was a brutal, graphic death. Such a great movie.
Look at the physical condition of Roy Scheider! He was an amateur boxer who was thinking of going professional. I think he was about 40 when they made this film.
He had to be in his 70s when he starred in "The Punisher" and he was in even better shape in that!

Hi 👋 sanchai hunux x is it still in gungun serial port to all my old 5
Another awesome thing about this movie is that it grows with you.
As a kid, Jaws is about the shark. This big awful monster out in the wild that kills without mercy. There is nothing but the shark. Chief, Quint, and Hooper are just "the heroes" that are there to beat the monster.
As an adult, Jaws is about the men. The 3 men who venture out into the darkness to kill the beast that stalks their community. One is driven by duty, one is driven by fascination, and the last is driven by hatred. Their brotherhood and the camaraderie that develops in trying to stop this beast speaks to our primal senses and is the reason I think it's so popular.

There's an interview where Robert Shaw said that filming this scene was hell, lol. Such a great film with great actors. Perfect casting.
Okay jaws fans hear me out on this, this is so poetic in so many ways: this was a three way kill, first of all its hoopers air tank that gets used as a bomb, second its quints m-1 gerrand that is used by chief brody to shoot and puncture the tank thus exploding the shark, so quint, the shark, and the orca go down together
It's spelled "Garand" not "gerrand"

It's ironic that Quint earlier described exactly the way he ended up killed by the shark: "Little shakin'... Little tenderisin'... And down ya go."
he spent so long trying to raise the shark then didn't want it raised after all
1975 - The Fox Theater in Hutchinson - When Brody blew up the shark, the whole audience jumped to it's feet, screaming an cheering at the top of our lungs, as loud as we possibly could. Steven Spielberg spent the whole movie building up the tension so much, that it exploded out of us the moment Brody went "Smile, you son of a Bitch!" BLOOEY!
Spielberg had played us all like a fiddle!
I primarily remember this scene because I had taken my little sister to see it. As the shark blew up there were gasps of relief and cheers all around apart from a very loud "Aaawww!" from my sister.

I mean, honestly, there's nothing to be scared of in the ocean, besides drowning.
Sharks aren't really that dangerous because a film portrayed them as such... though there are some species of sharks that are dangerous and aggressive, sure, but they rarely go to place where humans are

People had been killed and eaten by sharks before Jaws you know. Jaws wasn't the first time sharks were portrayed as dangerous. Real life had already done that. In the USA is was the New Jersey 1916 summer of terror that first planted that fear firmly in the minds of the public.
Jaws worked because the fear was already there.

One of the most graphic deaths I've ever seen in a film, let alone a PG-rated one.
The crunching sounds from the shark's teeth and all, the high-pitched screaming, the lack of music playing during the moment, the blood & everything.
It just seems so real and believable and terrifying.
It really gives me chills after seeing the movie again.
Its the way he sinks under the water and it all goes quiet after - give an unreal feeling to it...
Hot take: I don't like how he goes out like a complete punk. Seems like a stupid and pathetic way to go out. He just accidentally gets his fingers crushed and slides down. Could have gone out with style, maybe a more heroic conclusion. But that's just me.

The special effects are astonishing for a movie from 1975
@Dave The Builder I think it matters, but we don´t have to agree. Just look at "The Exorcist" - that came out (if I remember correctly) in 1973 - and it was way ahead of its time in terms of "special effects". Of course not only that makes a movie great, but it adds to the greatness of the film. About old times being better than current times: People always say that, but when you analyze it - normally I guess most people will find out that is just some kind of overly romantic view on the past. I would like to have lived in the 1920s. But then again, it would also be a bummer to die of a simple infection, simply because they did not have antibiotics / penicillin back then. I am not sure it would be that great to work 50 hours a week in an extremely dirty factory environment back in the early 1900s, where many people would not get much older than 40 years of age, simply because it was so unhealthy to work there. And so on.
The BEST from 1975!

Masterpiece movie. If only Hooper was in the 2nd one and the ending wasn't trash, it would have been a fantastic sequel. Jaws 2 was good but not great.
Bruh, that boat was at like a 20 degree incline and the guy couldn't hang on. 😂
I’d say the camera shot had the boat more at a 30-35 degree incline when Robert Shaw’s character started slipping towards the shark. Which, if slick enough is more than probable to have someone slip down the flooring like that.
if bruce had only waited another minute or two to carry out his final attack ...
Right!
He was hungry
Greatest movie of all time. untouchable. Always wondered why estuary victim attack was cut as it was supposedly too violent, which is on DVD extras, yet was nothing compared to Quints death.
I think it was the whole “leg shot” dilemma. Iirc, “dismemberment” being on screen for a certain amount of time constituted a default “R” rating and PG13 didn’t exist yet.
Unless I’m just getting different events mixed up.
