My main concern is that it doesn’t seem like there is going to be a main villain, pretty sure it’s going to be about culture differences. Which could be good but like you I don’t just blindly trust Pixar writers like I used too especially not with complicated topics. I miss great villains.
Cultural differences, family drama, and questions about the afterlife are all very interesting, but they aren't entertaining. What I think zootopia did so well was tell an entertaining odd couple buddy cop story first, but with a cultural differences undertone.
@@gregowen2022 So you didn't like Soul? :( Personally out of all the recent Pixar movies that is the only one that I feel it was an excellent movie not only in animation and concept, but in writing as well. Although the topic is too serious for children, that I admit it was best for it being released in Disney+, because it would most likely have flopped in theaters.
When John Lasseter who basically built Pixar was kicked out, there was a noticeable drop in quality. He apparently was the chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation for awhile as well. I would argue that the Disney side has suffered since he left too. Pixar will never return to the old days because they got rid of the brain behind the success. I think most people will wait until they can watch this on Disney+ because Pixar hasn't shown that they are worth taking the whole family out to pay for theater tickets. This is not a good time for mediocre movies which I'm guessing this will be.
It's crystal clear at this point that Lasseter was worth his weight in gold. We'll never know if booting him was right since we'll never get the details of what happened, but it has clearly cost them hundreds of millions at this point
@@gregowen2022 All that ever surfaced about him was that he “hugged too much”. My guess is that he might have been an obstacle to a more progressive form of storytelling so they took advantage of whatever discomfort he caused in the workplace (however slight) and used it to push him out. The dip in quality storytelling is obvious for sure, but there has also been a significant shift in themes and subject matter once Lasseter was ousted. No more universal themes designed for mass appeal and entertainment. There are very specific story decisions being made here that probably wouldn’t have happened under the leadership of a founding member of Pixar, because he wouldn’t be keen on using a company he helped create to promote a specific ideology.
@The Imaginist I mean, he did admit to the actions, I wouldn't say that was all that came up from it because he verbally told a 65 person audience he was sorry for his misconduct
What are your speculations on Elemental? I didn't even think to look up the director. It's Peter Sohn, who produced Luca and directed The Good Dinosaur. He says the film reflects his life as a child of immigrants. My concern has grown exponentially.
It will be about an element who identifies as another element. By the end of the movie, by some BS fusion process, said main character elemental will trans to the elemental he/she/they identify as.
After seeing the official trailer, my prediction has not been debunked. Two things stand out from the trailer. One, the title screen is obviously an LGBT flag. Two, there is a scene where Ember is holding her hand in front of falling water as if she is longing to become water. I am sure there are more clues, but those two things were immediately noticeable to me.
@Jason Konas I think you might be reading into to it too much, the director has biracial parents so I think he is kind of communicating that, not lgtb. Time will tell
I’ll be honest, I’m not expecting much from this one. Their track record hasn’t been great of late, and I don’t see a whole lot to make me think this is going to be different from the new norm. I mean, remember when Pixar used to have adventures with their characters. Wall-E went to space, Carl from Up went to the Jungle in his floating house, the Toys from Toy Story got separated from Andy numerous times, all of this was great fun and great drama. I kinda feel that this’ll all be just interpersonal drama between differing peoples. “You’re water and I’m fire, we’re too different.” Zootopia’s saving grace was that it was a rookie cop detective story, this balanced out the predator/prey race storyline. Not all the attention was focused on the predator/prey storyline and it could be explored with nuance. But Zootoptia was Disney, this is Pixar. One is owned by the other I know, but still technically two separate companies with different employees. I haven’t seen enough evidence that Pixar has done anything to course correct. Realistically they haven’t had enough time to course correct. But I’m hoping to be wrong.
yes I agree! the animation for this movie looks great imo, but the storyline is what worries me. I think this is just gonna be another generational trauma movie, like some of the other movies that Disney's released recently
I miss the Pixar of old. Wall-E is legitimately one of my favorite sci-fi films of all time and it is the only Pixar film to be put into the Criterion Collection. For everything that didn't work about Toy Story 4 parts of it were fascinating (and horrifying with the implications that Forky brought up), but every recent Pixar film has been an obligation watch more than anything else. This looks like a series of red flags so far, but I want to be wrong.
@@animezilla4486 I just saw it. I want to think about it for a few days, but my first reaction was just lukewarm. The opposites attract forbidden love story can be cool, but for some reason nothing about the trailer excited me other than the world of Elemental City
Thanks for the heads up. I just watched it, and I'm really not impressed. It feels like the humor is going to be endless fish out of water situations and generation gap moments along with an endless parade of bad puns. It feels like a lecture that Pixar wants me to pay to watch, then wants me to go buy souvenirs from. In some cases I think predictable storytelling can be comforting. Like a cinematic blanket wrapped around your shoulders, telling you to take in the pretty colors. But this doesn't have that element of the unknown that other Pixar films have had, the one that makes us wonder how they will fit things all together. For example, Inside Out's trailer showed us both Riley's life and her inner-life, and then told us there would be a great adventure. Or Brave showed us Marida's life and her unhappiness, and then showed us her mistake. This just showed us one unhappy young woman getting taken to the other side of the train tracks which literally made her and her new friend do things they hadn't done before. It all feels so on the nose that it makes me question the writing. It makes me wonder how little they trust the audience to follow the plot.
Turning Red was not just about getting your period. I don't remember it confirming her getting her period in the movie, just a few jokes about it. It was a basic coming of age story about a girl deciding to choose her own path even if it means fracturing/changing the status quo with her current family dynamic. Which is scary for many people who have heavy family ties. Also, I personally found the animation charming. I can see the inspiration they got from My Neighbors: The Yamadas. I think it was very clear the movie was for adolescents and as an adult who loves animation, I enjoyed it. I don't know, I feel like there's been some undeserved hate towards Turning Red, and I could never understand why. I thought the movie was fun!
I'm unsarcastically happy you enjoyed it, genuinely. The trouble for Pixar is that not enough people shared your enjoyment, and they need to make some money or they might not be around for long. Generational drama and questions about the afterlife can be interesting, but the majority of the audience isn't enjoying the way they are presenting those concepts
@@gregowen2022 I couldn't bring myself to watch all of it, but I caught the last 40 minutes or so. Some buddies were hate-watching on discord. I somewhat reserve judgement, but I really got the impression from the climax that the writers legitimately thought the *point* of 'family values' or social conservatism more generally is to be stifling towards adolescent energy, instead of that being a side effect. They could refute SC *intelligently* but they didn't. Also, I REALLY dislike the trope of adults learning from children, as in the climax. It's a particularly Babylonian sort of subversion.
@@marvintran7813 Honestly, I don't think at all that their latest Films (but also in General, eh), are mediocre (indeed, and I say all this regardless of how much I Love Them), especially Onward, and then also Soul (mentioning only Those from 2020 forward), but to each His own, of course 😉💯👍🏻
i think it might have a take on different personalities, such as some people being overextatic and energetic while others being more slow going in their mood. this might lead into subtle comment/awarness of mental health. considering it's a kids movie these can be important themes
@@Kenny-the-Platypus I don't get it, as most progressive people I encounter usually don't say "all lives matter". Its usually right wingers who desperately want to counter movements like BLM who say it. So the allegory doesn't really work with that joke he made.
Maybe if we hold the writers at gun point, maybe they’ll write something better. Then again trying to cultivate life in a barren wasteland is pointless.
Pixar desperately needs to release another trailer to create hype for the movie. It's one of the only upcoming 2023 movies to not have gotten a lot of promotion for it yet.
My biggest concern so far is similar to what you said about the city being a 3rd character . The city does look interesting and the catering to the different types of inhabiyis VERY Zootopia... Since this is possibly a return to form Fire and water love story , it just makes me wonder if any work is being done on the story rather than the visuals It's really sad to think we are in this era where the stories are re-hashes and romance was kinda put down, so I'm genuinely curious about the story and they haven't shown us anything :( This could easily be another Zootopia or encanto which is just sad
It's very strange that they are being so tight lipped about the story. If the story ends being another bomb, i'll just be watching RUclipsrs talk about the cool visual details instead of seeing it myself
It does look like the attention to detail of world building is gonna be massive, but they are gonna have to do more to make sure this stands out from Zootopia whether it tackles race or not. In regards to Pixar people have brought up that they have made all the films they came up with at a lunch they had back in the early 90s. Ergo, maybe they need to have that lunch again to make huge hit films again 😄 😄.
They need to get down on their knees in front of a dump truck full of cash and beg John Lasseter to come back. He was at that lunch and it's obvious that he was the creative force behind Pixar. After he left in 2016, it's been mediocre at best
1:43 without the original creator and director. Director who leave Disney/Pixar for Skydance. At this point there's no one left of the "imaginatory" of Pixar.
This movie is looking to be just Zootopia but WORSE. The world isn't creative it looks like "Pixar Movie City". *Element City* the creative bankrupt is here, ladies and gentlemen. According to a leaked book, it will be yet ANOTHER movie about "GENERATIONAL TRAUMA" fancy words for *_DADDY ISSUES_*
It depends on who is writing and directing. Pete Doctor, Lee Unchrich (probably spelled his last name wrong), Andrew Stanton, and Brad Bird are the only names I recognize in a good Pixar movie. John Lasseter is no longer there. If any of those guys are a part of this, let's hope they still got it. After all, Lee directed Coco.
I'm slipping, I didn't even think to check. Looks like it's Peter Sohn who produced Luca and Directed The Good Dinosaur. He said the movie reflects his life growing up as a child of immigrants. I'm not optimistic.
I'm mildly excited for this movie, the animation looks very nice but the storyline is what worries me. who knows, when Elemental releases I might give it a chance
I havnt seen those last 4-5 you mentioned and only heard about one of them (Buzz). Normally I see enough internet to catch a glimpse or interest enough to contemplate going to see it, but if it’s a flop, I either hear nothing or, in the case of Buzz, told to skip it. I’m going to forget all about this movie, but hopefully I’ll hear about it in three months and it’s something positive instead of something stupid like, two women Kissing. Also, they made a movie about Periods? Wtf lol. I’d joke about making a movie about unwanted lil boy boners too, for equality, but lord help me those sick bastards might do it >_
I'd love to say I'll review it for you, but I'm probably waiting for it to hit Disney Plus. Hopefully they start promoting it and we know for sure wherever they are taking the story
Hey, great video you have many great points about Pixar elementals what could go wrong. That’s not all I wanted to say. G.O You let your soul guide you to the very thing you love doing turning it into a passion that lead you to the path of happiness don’t let anybody stop you have a nice day stay safe and enjoy life
It would be silly of me to argue taste, but for Pixar they didn't make enough money to be justified. Their new formula for stories isn't reaching a wide enough appeal
I’ve watched the Good Dinosaur more than any of the recent Pixar movies combined so that’s gotta say something (I also really love the Good Dinosaur to be fair haha)
1:39 i totally agree with u about toy story 5. i was pissed as hell when i first saw it was confirmed last month & remember the look on my face. ts4 ruined our childhoods & the perfect finale 3 was already. its an even bigger cash grab than ts4 was
3 really was an excellent send off, but since they are out of ideas, they will continue to beat those dead horses. It's going to cost them in the long run

Pixar better cool down with constant stories about generational, race, and diversity trauma, their other cool things they can do, they need to try and lean more into the fantastical , their stories don't always have to be down to earth all the time. Honestly, used the "Grounded in reality " formula for lightyear really made it rather bland , which is also one of the reasons why the film underperformed in the theaters.
Also. Disney is planning on making a Zootopia sequel... Without the original director. Disney I know you want the furry audience and that's why you try so much to squeeze furry money but pleeeeeeeease STOP. If you told me 2 years after the original was released, I would be curious because the movie had good potential for a sequel. But c'mon after a Disney + show NOBODY ASKED FOR. Full of _weirdly sexual subtones._ Leave that for the internet, please.
To be honest, I don't know what they will do with this, but I also don't care, this doesn't look like anything that would interest me and I wouldn't get dragged to this move even if somebody would offer to pay me. At this point, I am much more excited about what Dreamworks is cooking up, especially Kung Fu Panda 4, and everything Disney/ Pixar related is just background noise.
DreamWorks is on fire lately, especially with Puss in Boots 2. That was a 10/10. I still like Pixar's art and details, but I'll probably be watching a youtuber explain those details for me instead of going to see what will likely be a lackluster story
I don’t even really know this movie was a thing and no I don’t plan on going and seeing it the next movie I plan on going and see is the Mario movie with my sister next month
His main credit is The Good Dinosaur, which generally makes the bottom of most people's Pixar rankings, so I agree that hope is probably lost. I think the issue with this movie is that it's 1) going to be compared to zootopia and it will lose. 2) The cultural differences love story is up front instead of a subtle theme. It's going to feel very obvious and thus boring. Elemental City looks cool as hell though.
My concerns from the trailer, Ember's father (in Chinese accent) 'This shop is dream of our family. Someday it'll al be yours.' The fire family seems to be stereotypical Chinese-American family. The mother is the one who says, 'Elements cannot mix'. So Amber is the typical exotic Asian girl who falls in love with the fat, watered-down boring Seth Rogen type?
The graphics are amazing but as usual, there’s no actual plot or meaningful character development. And then everything is just allegory for identity politics and political accuracy
Exactly. I don't know who is running Pixar, but it feels like maybe Rachel Maddow or something. Their art department is incredible and it's a shame they make such beautiful films that have awful stories attached
May I ask what your issues with Soul's screenplay was? I thought the message of appreciate the simple things in life and don't put your eggs all in one basket. I honestly gave the movie a 9/10 for how it touched me with its themes.
I enjoyed the theme, but not the movie. It's the execution lately with Pixar. Luca was a nice friendship and Onward also had a wholesome theme, but they all felt like roughly 30 minutes of story stretched into a whole movie. I found myself being bored in all three.
Strong fiery woman and a passive non threatening dude? Yup, that sounds like the Disney formula, all right. I really hope Lasseter and Skydance kick the crap out of Pixar. LOL
Why the hell would all of these elements be living in a city and taking a bus?! Who the hell MADE the bus and the buildings? Pixar has always had major flaws in their world building that if you think about them for even a second make no sense whatsoever.
You know something Greg Owen, I thought Lightyear was going to be a premo CGI version of Buzz lightyear of star command with The LGMs , Booster, XR, Mira Nova , Commander Nebula, and Warp Dark Matter,But it wasn't . Lightyear plot was essentially about the characters trying to get off a boring planet (the animation and the visuals were beautiful, but the plot ,characters(except Sox)and decisions made with Lightyear were uninteresting and had no connection with Buzz lightyear of star command, let alone Toy story, I am baffled Pixar decided to make the movie like that and thought it was a good idea )., it had nothing to do with aliens, space travel, or saving the galaxy, and Zurg wasn't an evil emperor, he was a future version of Buzz. The movie was also pushing Representation, which alot of families were not interested in and Chris Evans insulted people a week before the movie premiered. They also removed Tim Allen, The true voice of Buzz lightyear. They marketed the movie as the one Andy saw that made him get a Buzz lightyear toy, but that's a lie. Pixar doesn't understand their own characters let alone a kids colorful imagination, Pixar seems to have a small sense of adventure, wonder, danger, and encountering new characters and creatures these days, it's a shame. They better up their game, and hire creative people that want to entertain families and tell good stories with interesting characters and worldbuilding along with lots of fun and humor for everyone to enjoy, and nothing to do with Representation or critical race theory.
"Worries about Pixar's Elemental" Im actually more worried about Inside Out 2. You remember that one of most best and artistic movie? Only god knows how they will cram modern propaganda into feelings of young teenage girls brain.... God, that scares me!
I really like that Zootopia is not 1:1 to our reality. Predator and prey aren't standing for anny real world groups. They are their own groups in their own universe with their own rules. It makes for great exploration of the themes, while watching we basically can learn on a vacuum all the messages and aply to real life. We can see the differences that the real world has and learn that a lot of the things we give importance when we should not. I really like this movie, it's also very deep. We get a lot of deepness with Judy learning that she has biases in herself, but that does not mean she can't change and fix things. Just like her parents did with Gideon. And a lot of complexity with Nick, society projected what they thought he was thanks 2 the fox stereotipes. which led him to actually fulfill his stereotype, but he later learned that he could change and he did. because stereotypes aren't absolutes. This movie is so deep, and this is just a small part of it.
I couldn't agree more. Currently working on a script about why zootopia works and Elemental doesn't, but I think it's a good idea to do another video that is just a deep dive into zootopia itself
Some concern i have is there going to bonk us on our heads every five minutes that elements don’t mix and that at the end they will all be in harmony, Its almost expected at that point, its like RAYA and that movie kept bonking us about trust so Im keeping my distance from this one movie.
Haha, the Raya comparison is on point. We get it, we need to trust each other. Holy crap. Same thing with Frozen and the theme of Fear Bad. I'm concerned that Disney is getting more and more obvious with each passing year. A clear theme doesn't have to mean a blunt theme, and they are missing that
Since Inside Out, it seems like Pixar is just obsessed with these similar concepts. Instead of "Emotions"... what about "Souls"? Instead of "Emotions"... what about "Elements"? Pixar is as dead as Marvel and Disney. John Lasseter was clearly way more important to Pixar and Disney Animation than we could've imagined. When Lasseter was moved from Pixar to all Disney animation, there was a slight dip in Pixar quality, and a sharp rise in Disney Animation quality. And when Lasseter left, both studios plummeted.
yeah, I think it's going to get crushed. I'm still wondering if people will avoid it because of Ezra Miller, but most of the chatter online seems hyped for the Flash, or at least Keaton's return
I found Luca quite charming but I’ll admit myself it’s not something I’ve ever gone back to watch. Soul was a watch once and I liked it enough but it just felt like a streaming movie. Couldn’t see how that was supposed to be theatre worthy. None of Pixar’s releases outside of Lightyear (which was soul crushingly disappointing for me) look theatre worthy. Won’t comment on the red Panda movie because I never watched it and had zero interest in it It’s not a high bar right now so as long as they can make a crowd pleasing film with a decent (not to preachy) message I think it could do well. The art style is incredibly charming
They have had trouble coming up with a solid story lately. Seems like they have a message and build the story around it. That's a good point about their stuff not being theater worthy. I hadn't thought of it that way, and it's very true
It's all subjective, but I have to disagree on this one. It had what might have been an interesting premise, but in execution I found it boring. I've been thinking about what I dislike about recent Pixar films, and I think that might be it. They feel to me like a good idea that could have been 30 minutes, but needed to be feature film length.
I'm really excited about Elemental, but I agree that we don't know much about it, and movies these days tend to be hit or miss. The show 1883 has several strong females, but it's not woke. All of the characters are incredibly well written, and I think it has one of the best heroine arcs I've seen in a while. I highly recommend it!
It’s a movie about racism for kids. Based on the trailer footage, they’re very on-the-nose and heavy-handed with the messaging. There’s not even a hint of subtlety to the dialogue, causing the film to seem like it’ll already be boring. Oh- and the usage humor is generally just unfunny. So yeah, I’m worried.
I can't agree, but maybe I wouldn't dislike it so much if it didn't continue the trend of using old IPs as clothing to sneak in. If you call it Lightyear, we the audience are expecting Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story.
I fully agree with you on this movie,Pixar is in a downhill slope lately. Gone are the days were Pixar was a synonym of quality, now im skeptical about every movie they make. I'm going to go with my gut feeling on this one and wait for a detailed review to come out first, before i even think about watching this movie.
Yeah, Pixar is a lot like this game company, Blizzard. I used to be hyped every time either of them spoke, now they both need to do some strong selling before I reach for my wallet
You mentioned that racism in Zootopia was done well but I'm inclined to respectfully disagree to a point. "Prejudice is bad" is certainly the theme of Zootopia but it can't in good faith be compare to an actual issue humans have because it was established in Zootopia that they aren't humans with animal skin, they are actually biological animals that have pre-set biological factors that contribute to behaviour - such as jokes about rabbits being good at multiplying and that all sloths are physically slow. When Nick lunges at Judy, it's not a "her, an X human being lunged at by a Y human" scenario because that's not what's happening. She doesn't carry "anti-race" spray, it's literally for one species of animal and it's an animal that are natural enemies to rabbits, historically and biologically. Maybe I just have too black-and-white thinking about it and I'd like to hear someone actually give me a counterpoint (in a respectful way, preferably). I'm totally down to have a mature discussion about this lol
I think it works because it isn't too on the nose. Cultural and racial differences are a universal theme. As Americans, most of us saw a civil rights black/white racial theme, but it wasn't exactly that. I like to imagine that Europeans saw something different based on their location and history. The nice thing about using animals and the "prejudice is bad" theme is that it didn't come across as preaching, but could still be adapted to speak to the issues of whatever audience saw it.
Hello, i can help. Zootopia wasn't meant to be a "replace predator with any human group" kind of metafor. The movie is much more complex than that. These 2 groups, predator and prey, aren't standing for humans no. The word creates its own universe with its own groups and own rules. Know that animals have evolved millions of years, and their nature is basically non existant equal to humans. They are moral and thinking beings that don't have any kind of instinct. Are their biological differences between them? Yes, but they don't contribute to behavior. The bunnys can have a lot of babies, but them having a lot is seen more as a cultural thing, not an instinctive one. The only one I saw that was an inherent trait behavior was wolfs, but they probably can resist the howling, and I think this was made so that you have even less comparison 2 humans and see them as obviously difrent 2 us. Zootopia is not really about race. It's about prejudice in general and stereotyping. In the movie, we see Judy being discriminated against because of her size and the stereotype that bunnys are cute. Nick is discriminated against because he is a fox, and foxes have the untrustworthy stereotype. The movie does have parales to racism but also sexism, homofobia, and more. This was made for you 2 know where to apply the message and reflect on modern times but not for you to directly corilete the 2. It was also made so that you understand that it's just about discrimination in general, not about a specific one. Judy being lunged by Nick and reacting the way she did was a wrong act. You would react the same to any random person if they did this. But Nick wasn't random. He was her friend, someone she trusted in, but she still deep down thought he was his stereotype. Know you can say ah, but they are "natural enemies" she would obviously be afraid of him right. Well, no, animals have evolved millions of years, no fox is hunting any rabits or eating them. This change in their nature removed the "natural enemies" title from their relation. Know they are just different people in different groups. None better than the other, just different. It's also interesting because sins prey aren't being hunted, and predators aren't hunting anymore. These titles are also social constructs. Their whole nature changed, but people still wanted to leable themselves with hurtful stereotypes. I hope this helped, and I also want 2 point out that the movie shows that size or fisical attributes don't matter, the most powerful character was the mob boss, Judy beat a Rhino and the most dangerous animal was the sheep. Looks can be deciving, but they are just that, looks, and they tell you nothing about someone true nature.
Looking now I appreciate the attention to detail they put into that but I'm not feeling the romantic thing. I feel like this has potential of just being really cliche since I've seen many of these kinds of romantic stories before. You know ones where their families are like complete opposites of each other.
Romeo and Juliette is quite old. It's a classic, yes, but they are going to need to bring a fresh angle on it if they want to break out of the slump the studio has been in
I havn't wanted to rewatch a pixar film that came out after Coco, that was in 2017! They've only gone downhill since, jumping on the race and gender bs train with the rest of disney AND the animation has gotten simplified for some reason. My guess is disney wanted to save money so fired the most talented people.
I feel like it's gonna be a role reversed, sjw, preachy movie about the Fireboy and Watergirl puzzle solving flash game. I have no confidence in this movie that would rather see (Potential) child predictor playing as Usain Bolt on meth rather than watch this. The art and settings are amazing though.
Just another western propaganda movie. Forbidden relationship and "I'm not like others, I am different". Making us hear the same message for 557687th time. Kinda sick of it tbh, that's why I liked Puss 2 so much.
I'm afraid it's going to be extremely boring. It's not a bad theme, but Pixar has been doing this again and again and they aren't even delivering an interesting spin on it
How is $400-600 million not considered a profit? As long as a movie's boxoffice surpasses both its budjet and marketing cost, the movie would be a success.
@@gregowen2022 Puss in Boots 2 made $475 million dollars from a budget of $90 million (plus marketing). While it wasn't ultra successful of being near the billion mark, it still a lot of money enough to consider it a success. Also a big factor of making a movie a box office bomb is a movie's production cost. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Box-office_bomb#High_production_costs) Example is Lightyear, it made $226 million but because it's budget was $200 million (plus marketing) made it a bomb while Puss in Boots 2 had a fairly low budget.
No one's going to watch the flash because people are boycotting Ezra Miller. Unless this movie is a complete garbage fire and will probably do well opening weekend.
The Flash has a lot working against it (I should probably do a video) but Marvel has been in a slump and superhero movies still do ok, so people will want the alternative. I don't see it making a billion dollars, but I think they'll still profit and take away audience from Pixar
This movie looks like pure garbage front to back. Nothing in it from the design to the limited “story” excites me one bit. Remember when Pixar made fun movies? Yeah…..
I love the world design, but I agree that their movies have not been fun lately. They are trying too hard to be deep and they forgot to tell an entertaining story
This movie is a poor clone of Zootopia, directed by the director of The Good Dinosaur. It will be just another vanilla baby food story made specifically for children. I mean, this is insulting to any decent adolescent, this movie is not even trying to be interesting. Yeah, the graphic's awesome, but the story is pure bore.
I agree. The zootopia comparisons alone are going to hamper it, and I imagine its very obvious story will do the rest of the killing. Pixar needs a big hit, and this will be middling at best
ah yes!! another boring movie with an overarching plot about family drama!! just what we all wanted!!! please god disney just. bring back classic villains
Pixar definitely needs to pull back from the style of story they've had. Inside Out was amazing, but as you said, not every story needs to be about family trauma with no real villain
A bit inconvenient that you released this video not too long after the proper trailer got released. Maybe the trailer would have given you more material to work with. For me I don’t mind if the film used overused tropes. As long as their executed well, that’s my concern. Pretty sure the better phrase would be “Fire elements matter”, as last time I checked progressives don’t really use phrases like “all lives matter”. Did Lightyear even make a big deal about the gay character in it? In the movie itself it wasn’t made a big deal. It was just someone’s married life in the background which just happens to be gay. Unless your talking about it’s marketing. I’m pretty sure Turning Red was a lot more than about periods. And was made for people who grew up in the early 2000s. And what’s wrong with it’s childish animation? You one of those people who act like animation needs to heavily detailed and realistic or something all the time? That’s a pretty shallow view on animation you got there. And I’d honestly watch Luca more than once.
It used to be that every Pixar film was it’s own self contained world with a unique look and character design. Now pretty much every film they release has that cheap doofy gummy look that gives you a slight sensory buzz but ultimately feels hollow and generic. The first time I noticed it was in The Good Dinosaur and it’s been a downhill slope ever since.
I'll be honest, I don't think Zootopia is a very well written movie. It has creative elements, sure But it's actual tackling of racial issues leaves something to be desired Before the 3rd act of the movie, the information that Judy has is that this aggression seems to be mostly coming from predators, of course we find out later that Sheep lady twist villain was behind this lie. However, is the movie seriously suggesting that Judy should lie about what she believes to be fact, simply because it might make people assholes, or make some people upset? And whilst I may be looking too deep into the ending, the fact that Sheep lady is the real villain all along, and did something to make the predators that way. Is that movie implying that all crime statistics are simply the result of manipulation? Like I say, maybe that wasn't their intention, but it just makes the twist villain all that more confusing
Its all like this because of Disney interference that mostly begun with Brave, and only got gradually worse with forced political message pressure. Pixar need to be left alone to do their magic.
That's definitely part of it. I also think they delved too far into the villainless stories and while they are interested concepts, they aren't presented in an interesting way. We are going to the movies, after all
My main concern is that it doesn’t seem like there is going to be a main villain, pretty sure it’s going to be about culture differences.
Personally out of all the recent Pixar movies that is the only one that I feel it was an excellent movie not only in animation and concept, but in writing as well. Although the topic is too serious for children, that I admit it was best for it being released in Disney+, because it would most likely have flopped in theaters.
Not every movie has to have an antagonist
@@Macedra Encanto is a Good Example of That, but in some Movies it's Good to Have Villains.
How this Movie looks a little like the "Fireboy & Watergirl" Game, should have a Villain made of Green Goo.
😅🥲
Oh shoot, the good dinosaur was kinda trash. There was nothing in it that was entertaining at all. Luca was an enjoyable film imo.
Look at the recent trailer that just came today
@@animezilla4486 I just saw it. I want to think about it for a few days, but my first reaction was just lukewarm. The opposites attract forbidden love story can be cool, but for some reason nothing about the trailer excited me other than the world of Elemental City
@@gregowen2022 I have to say the idea of forbidden Love story can work I really hope this movie does well because Disney needs a hit
Right!!
Soul was pretty awesome!
The other Pixar movies were mediocre like he said.
However, Soul & Turning Red were great.
It's because that movie is cringe.
i think it might have a take on different personalities, such as some people being overextatic and energetic while others being more slow going in their mood. this might lead into subtle comment/awarness of mental health. considering it's a kids movie these can be important themes

Nope. At this point, using chatGPT would produce better scripts for Pixar

The plot and world of "Elemental" remind me too much of "Zootopia" to be excited about it.
The world excites me, but yeah the plot looks puddle deep
The fire girl is going to have to fight systemic elementism. I guarantee you this whole movie is about race
Since the director is saying that it reflects his life as a child of immigrants, I'm inclined to agree. Race is going to be a big factor

Maybe Ember and Wade will have the same energy as Mavis and Johnny from Hotel Transylvania
That could work very well. Those two were so cute
Pixar desperately needs to release another trailer to create hype for the movie. It's one of the only upcoming 2023 movies to not have gotten a lot of promotion for it yet.
It's so strange that they dropped one trailer with zero story info and then went silent. Is this going to be Strange World again?
@@gregowen2022 They just unleashed the official trailer for the movie and to say from me, it's good.
My biggest concern so far is similar to what you said about the city being a 3rd character . The city does look interesting and the catering to the different types of inhabiyis VERY Zootopia... Since this is possibly a return to form Fire and water love story , it just makes me wonder if any work is being done on the story rather than the visuals
It's really sad to think we are in this era where the stories are re-hashes and romance was kinda put down, so I'm genuinely curious about the story and they haven't shown us anything :(
This could easily be another Zootopia or encanto which is just sad
It's very strange that they are being so tight lipped about the story. If the story ends being another bomb, i'll just be watching RUclipsrs talk about the cool visual details instead of seeing it myself
So... It's Zootopia with elements instead of Animals.
@@gregowen2022 Sure, but he got canceled and disney doesn't want that look on them lol.

Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken and Trolls Band Together are Dreamworks Pictures 2023 releases. KungFu Panda 4 comes out next year.
You're definitely overthinking that point.
I like Luca. The cat character is my favorite. But you are right. It's not a movie I want to watch again, unlike Encanto, Wall-E or even Finding Nemo.
I don’t even really know this movie was a thing and no I don’t plan on going and seeing it the next movie I plan on going and see is the Mario movie with my sister next month
They aren't promoting it at all. Almost feels like even Pixar knows it can't be saved so why bother
Honestly that’s not surprising Disney’s been doing that a lot lately and honestly it would probably be better for Disney just to sell of Pixar
The main writer has done mostly sitcoms, and not very good sitcoms. I’d abandon all hope, same loosing formula on this one as well.
At this rate, I don't even care about their "creations" anymore.
It's up to them to make me rethink about them.
When their stuff hasn't been bad, it's been mediocre at best. I don't think anyone realized just how important Lasseter was until he was gone

@Greg Owen Pete Doctor is currently the CCO of Pixar, and I don't think he is doing a good job at hiring creative, fun, and talented writers.
@Greg Owen I see what you mean, almost that it would have been better as like a 10 minute short film instead of a whole movie
Why not have special accommodations for the fire elementals?
Haha, probably because RACISM!!!1!1
I'm surprised that they didn't use the five elements of chinese philosophy. You know, to placate them yet again.
I didn't realize until just a few years ago what a shockingly large grip China has on our film industry.
Strong fiery woman and a passive non threatening dude? Yup, that sounds like the Disney formula, all right.
I really hope Lasseter and Skydance kick the crap out of Pixar. LOL
I meant boring writing for their films (typing error)
Why the hell would all of these elements be living in a city and taking a bus?! Who the hell MADE the bus and the buildings? Pixar has always had major flaws in their world building that if you think about them for even a second make no sense whatsoever.
Haha, most terrifying of which is cars. It's a nightmare to dissect
I swear there was an old 2 player flash game about a waterboy and firegirl. Disney so unoriginal 😠
Others have mentioned that, but I don't recall that game. I was probably watching Homestar Runner at the time
You know something Greg Owen, I thought Lightyear was going to be a premo CGI version of Buzz lightyear of star command with The LGMs , Booster, XR, Mira Nova , Commander Nebula, and Warp Dark Matter,But it wasn't .
"Worries about Pixar's Elemental"
Im actually more worried about Inside Out 2.

A clear theme doesn't have to mean a blunt theme, and they are missing that
Even if it’s bad people will praise it.
I agree, but will they see it? My guess is that people aren't going to be inspired enough to go buy tickets
He was obviously underestimated by seismic proportions. I don't know what Skydance is paying him, but they got an absolute steal whatever it is
A new trailer is out.
The biggest issue with this movie is it’s going up against the Flash.

And it will age just as well, I'm afraid
Your right, pixar of late has had pretty boring writing for their writing.
I didn't realise people hated Finding Nemo so much. 20 years since that movie came out.
@James Donald really? Maybe some people hated it but honestly, it's a beloved pixar classic, and and 89% of people who have seen it, had liked it.
Won’t comment on the red Panda movie because I never watched it and had zero interest in it
It’s not a high bar right now so as long as they can make a crowd pleasing film with a decent (not to preachy) message I think it could do well. The art style is incredibly charming
They have had trouble coming up with a solid story lately. Seems like they have a message and build the story around it.
That's a good point about their stuff not being theater worthy. I hadn't thought of it that way, and it's very true
Soul is a banger of a movie, what are you talking about?
I felt like Pixar went down hill after Soul was released. Ever since then their movies were kinda basic to me.
Right. It's Great Value Zootopia. These people need to learn how to do subtle allegory
I actually liked Lightyear. I thought it was funny, emotional, had a good twist, had good characters, was well-animated and acted.
I can't agree, but maybe I wouldn't dislike it so much if it didn't continue the trend of using old IPs as clothing to sneak in.
If you call it Lightyear, we the audience are expecting Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story.
@@gregowen2022 yeah, it was far from perfect but I liked it.
Fully agree, looks great ... but coming from Disney ... 🤞🙏
It's a classic, yes, but they are going to need to bring a fresh angle on it if they want to break out of the slump the studio has been in
So Pixar reimagined "Avatar the last Airbender" right?
More interesting details but fewer awesome fights. I'm sticking with Avatar
I didn't realise Finding Nemo was hated so much. 20 years since that movie came out.
@@jimmyboy7817 you know I can honestly say that I have not ever sat down and watched FN in its entirety.
I havn't wanted to rewatch a pixar film that came out after Coco, that was in 2017! They've only gone downhill since, jumping on the race and gender bs train with the rest of disney AND the animation has gotten simplified for some reason. My guess is disney wanted to save money so fired the most talented people.
It’s so predictable, boring, nothing new, and the same thing about the tropes.
It's becoming far too obvious as well. There is no real story that happens above the theme. The theme IS the story, and that gets boring fast
I loved turning red
Just another western propaganda movie. Forbidden relationship and "I'm not like others, I am different". Making us hear the same message for 557687th time. Kinda sick of it tbh, that's why I liked Puss 2 so much.
I'm afraid it's going to be extremely boring. It's not a bad theme, but Pixar has been doing this again and again and they aren't even delivering an interesting spin on it
@@gregowen2022 I really like the concept of Elements clashing with eavh other but the story itself seems unoriginal
nope new trailer just came
Sonic the hedgehog 2 puss and boots last wish sing 2 they bomb at box office $400-600millon is not profit film at all.
Puss in boots 2 is a crying shame. That movie is absolutely excellent and should have done better
And I’d honestly watch Luca more than once.
you seriously ask the question "who was turning red made for?" girls with periods!
Peter Sohn is the director of pixar's first flop "The Good Dinosaur " I don't know how Elemental will perform.
That makes me very nervous. I haven't seen good dinosaur all the way through. I tried to watch with my kids, but I couldn't maintain interest
It has creative elements, sure
But it's actual tackling of racial issues leaves something to be desired
Before the 3rd act of the movie, the information that Judy has is that this aggression seems to be mostly coming from predators, of course we find out later that Sheep lady twist villain was behind this lie.
They do, but unfortunately most of the magic was within John Lasseter and he's gone. I'm not sure what they can do now
I think Pixar is going to end up a shining beacon on the hill to other media giants for the axiom 'get woke go broke'.
That's definitely part of it. I also think they delved too far into the villainless stories and while they are interested concepts, they aren't presented in an interesting way. We are going to the movies, after all
