this is my main problem with the payback origin right now: MSI either spawns right on top of you which means you are dead quick or they are on the other side of the galaxy which makes it nigh impossible to smack them around.
So in my opinion, the habitat is far superior. Yes, having a battleship is very nice and helpful, but it absolutely cannot compare to just how much better having a size 10 habitat that gets a very nice bonus to research. In addition, the fact that it doesn't take your orbital slot makes it even better...
Probably unless you stumble into the Alien Logs, or similar über-Research world. It's always good to be adaptable. I feel the devs have nerfed habs a bit too much. I don't see why each should start with 10 empire size when they're expensive in both influence and alloys. I enjoy VD origin but exploiting big worlds is far easier, so long as you have access to the pops. Recent game I have Rubricator relic world, the Baol pre-cursor and some sz 25 worlds. Compare Gaia and Ecumenopoli I feel VDs are getting short changed!
Depends on the playstyle honestly. You're not gonna fill 10 research districts by year 20, meanwhile if you went military route you could start a vassalization war in year 10. Both of the new origins help tremendously with a super early war. Not to mention since you don't need alloys, you can sorta "tech rush" in full civilian economy
@@mortache well you're right, more new features that exclude them. But I think the issue is they were a power house in MP, so they're being heavily nerfed, despite the RP interest and logic of VD for some empire types that like choice of locations
Mine has them on the edge of the galaxy. There's only two ways in to their space, one blocked by Xenophobe sleeper empire and the other way is blocked by raiders.
A little tip for the astroid event, if it flies within range of the space station (even an un-upgraded one) building a defence platform could be enough to deal with it. It has worked for me this update, any space station can build them, and provide more firepower per alloy/build time than all early game corvettes. The big down side being that you can't move them later.
Why make a habitat and grow pops like a peasant when you can use stealth archery to snipe your neighbor and grab a vassal before year 20? Its a single ship so it can whittle down the enemy and cause attrition when the enemy only has corvettes, and strike craft + kinetic is a wonderful combination. And tech can be taken from the cold dead hands of your enemies
I did payback as a barbaric despoiler in order to jumpstart my economy with ‘indentured servitude’. Ended up going with the habitat since I just went full force into corvette spam after researching them and needed the science boost to catch up :)
@@Ep3o Having them switch so many projects to just having a science ship there is nice when you're exploring and stuff, but it sucks you lose progress. Double edged sword. Used to be a lot more of those projects either required you to use your regular researcher or, in the olden days, have a Science Ship with a higher level scientist. It's weird they abandoned that but not the fact that it specifies level still.
@@Juhnte it's sort of a joke, as that's an achievement, but it's eager explorers civic followed by NEVER researching the hyperdrive. You get the steam achievement for colonizing like 10 worlds without unlocking the hyperdrive. It's super fun to completely ignore hyperlanes.

Really hate how federation work, for player you get less income and less ship cap, and hard to make vessel in mid-game expect going an early supermacy which means have enough power to face 3-5 country in mid-game. And I have one gameplay that every body in a federation are nice to me expect one guy, he insult me so I insult back, and then they declear a war on me, "how dare you", "It's a treason" I say. Will, still win the war in the end.
I find the batteleship WAY to slow. Took it over 2200 days to get to end of my little empire when i war broke out and my other ship went there in like less then 200 days. Habittat is way to go ..full science ... and then you have the tech you need fast and dont really need the battleship anyway. My MSI got fucked up on the other side of the galaxy before the second-wave of debt collectors even arrived.
We were able to turn a battle ship into a habitat. A shame we can't do it to normal battleships lol

It also gives you a massive tech boost do to it’s special resource that basically propels you though tech so fast
