About the 9 PM dinner, I think it harks back to the time when the best TV programs used to come on around that time, and families tended to sit down together and have their meals around that time. So instead of having some family time, they would have some TV time. I remember our family started doing that at home in the mid 80s. There were just a couple of channels on TV back then, DD1 and DD2.
