- Happy Birthday to Joey Wheeler! In this theme duel, we're pitting Joey Wheeler's new Flame Swordsman support cards against Yugi's reliable Gaia the Fierce Knight deck! Will the Ultimate Flame Swordsman be able to beat Gaia the Magical Knight of Dragons? I got help from my friend @Pharaohmones to do this theme duel and find out!

During the final turn, Flame Swordsrealm can only target and decrease the ATK of a Warrior-Type monster, which Fighting Flame Dragon is not. Guess I'm ready for Slifer Slackers. Back to Duel Academy! 😅
That said, a correct and alternate turn would have won the Duel in a similar fashion:
With the -500 LP from the Ultimate Flame Swordsman quick effect, and then the 2800(Ultimate Flame Swordsman)+700(Fighting Flame Dragon)=3500 x2(Ultimate Flame Swordsman Effect)=7000, Paul's life points would have been at 500, and he could not summon a Monster without falling victim to another -500 from another Ultimate Flame Swordsman's quick effect.

I think is still GG because Ultimate flame swordman can double his attack and can attack 2 times thanks to fighting flame dragon
Really appreciate the enthusiastic and clear communication about your cards!! This is my favorite characteristic of Team APS and my worries about the guest not matching it were destroyed quicker than Paul's whole 8000 LP

I will never get over the fact Joey didn't get to duel in Dark Side of Dimension. He could have had a duel with Yugi to prepare him for the tournament or dueled to try and escape the world he was in.

YO THAT SHUFFLE THO HUUUUHHH???? How did this man managed to replicate a riffle shuffle without bending the cards and while using sleeves?!?!? MAGIC!!! SORCERY I TELL YOU!!!
Ok so I was as baffled as you when I saw it, so I started trying to replicate it and I cracked the code
First you split your deck
Then you place each half of the deck at an inward angle lower than 90 degrees relative to the ground (like 60 degrees is recommended)
You basically hold all the cards with just your thumb and then slowly curve your thumb upwards so that the cards fall in sequence.
Lastly you just shake them all together!

He was using Flame Swordsrealm incorrectly. You have to lower the attack of a Warrior monster. The fusion he was lowering the attack of was a dragon. He still could attack twice regardless but still Incase anyone tries this deck for themselves they should know.

Man this duel is more entertaining and enjoyable than any form of "meta" deck, casual/fun yugioh is where its at honestly
This is a great way to showcase these decks! I like how you both explained so clearly what was going on, it was very easy to follow. Great duels, well done!
For those interested Flame Swordsman's strategy is basically get out Ultimate Flame Swordsman, give him equip cards that both pump his attack to insane numbers and give him multiple attacks, then swing for game. It's really fun but its biggest drawbacks are how it relies a lot on its graveyard effects and really lacks protection.
Paul was able to stay surprisingly still for that game 3 I don't think he moved a single time

Its fun to see a new face on the show every now and then. They did well too. Im sure its tricky finding people who are comfortable being a little more animated for these videos.

Pharaohnomes crushed Paul's spirit of Yugioh in the second match so that way Paul doesn't want to show his face for the rest of the match! Love it!

I hope soon enough that Team Aps plays a labrynth deck vs a gaia deck or some other deck vs a labrynth deck in the future because that would be an exciting episode to watch! Paul whipped up a powerful Vortex all us DL players know well, Master Duel players curse for not being enough, but was burnt out by the masterful Flamesword retrains!

See that's what Modern Yugioh should be. No endless negates, dedication to a single clan and bare minimum staples mostly used to do simple actions and yet the heat of battle was intense and the OTK combo was not guaranteed by either deck able to be responded to and countered if timing lined up. Just flawless!

Seeing you two go back and forth on the knife edge of a win was genuinely impressive and compelling. You two built some great decks for exhibition play.
Matches like these show the best side of modern-ish Yugioh: you can have all the combos and deck searching and special summons you want, so long as you don't run cards that tell your opponent to stop playing.

Joey’s cards have always been some of my favorites. Red eyes being my favorite normal monster, gearfried being one of my favorite goat format side deck options, and time wizard being the my favorite luck based monster. Seeing this fully realized flame swordsman deck in action is so cool to me and I’ll definitely give it a try once I get the chance.
Could we please get decklists for these? They seem like a lot of fun to play.

This is TRULY Nostalgia and the FUN aspect of Yugioh!!!!!!! 🎉 (I love Modern but sometimes a little slow down with Boss "Battle" and interaction back and forth in a different Format for Yugioh like this is what we're missing, purely "Playing For Fun")
An official Banlist for this DM Era Format and an Anime (Illusion Type introducing) would be gold 😅

Can't say I clicked with Pharaohmone, but the duel was nice. Both archetypes had very interesting decks, I might try them someday.

It's nice how consistent those decks are. Too often do we end up with OG Yuhioh themed decks that either brick easily or basically use un-themed cards for consistency. Really fun duels!

I've got a Joey anime deck duel idea: I just watched a hypothetical video about Joey beating Marik in Battle City finals and winning Egyptian God Ra. How would the duel go between Joey's Battle City finals deck w/ Ra vs Yugi's Battle City finals deck w/ Slifer and Obelisk?
Paul’s playing the Gaia Deck all wrong! I play it in Master Duel and you want to fusion summon Curse Of Dragon, The Magical Knight Dragon and then use its effect to return Spiral Fusion to the hand then utilizing it’s second effect fusion summon Gaia The Magical Knight of Dragons by banishing the previous used fusion material for the first summon from the graveyard then you got two monsters in play. Plus he should have used Gaia The Magical Knight of Dragons’ effect way sooner to prevent the summoning of Ultimate Flame Swordsman.

As someone who is a huge fan of Flame Swordsman from back in the Legacy of Blue Eyes, I am truly surprised and happy to see the support it got! I can't wait to make a Flame Swordsman deck of my own one day!

Although your making 25 moves per turn and the monsters are not particularly old, it kind of brings back the nostalgia of yugioh
Overall, my favorite part of this Duel, (Besides getting to see Flame Swordsman in action; sorta) is the overall composure that these two have during the whole Battle..
like many O.G Yu_Gi_Oh players I do enjoy my share share theatrics and pazaz, but seems to be FAR to much of that in the world, (I can't even watch Golf lately without the crowd razzing everyone on)
