There are five catgorised climbs in all, the last of which is the brutal ascent of Monte Bondone (21.4km at 6.7%) for a summit finish.

Thank you GCN for never spoiling in the titles!
Yeah Eurosport can suck an egg
True!!!❤❤
they sure did spoilers in previous years, but yes, tg no spoilers now
The biggest issue I have with LR
Respect to Armirail who despite not being on his terrain threw everything but the kitchen sink at it and honored the Pink Jersey in a way the GC riders really hadn't done until this point.
Gotta love Almeida's reverse poker face. He always looks like he is going to blow up any second and just keeps on riding. Champ!
I love Almeida playing it fair at the finish. Many riders would just close Thomas at the barrier. What a fight till the end! ❤
The best pain face in the peloton!
G looks amazing. Almeida as well. Don't count out Roglic, it will be a battle all the way to Rome.
G yes. Roglic bottling it at a grand tour as always
@@neilberry1552 And yet Roglic has won 3 of them...
@@andrasszabo1570 yes vuelta espania. Bottled two tours and now a giro
@@neilberry1552 You've bottled your comment. Since when is the Vuelta not a Grand Tour?
@András Szabó Vuelta is the one with the easiest competition to be fair. Mostly tired top riders after a tour or riders coming back from injury.
But yes it is a grand tour. Roglic will win the giro still, there is still the itt. He's very calculating.
Huge respect for Zana! in the breakaway all day and still working for Dunbar on the final climb where all others from the breakaway were caught and dropped!!
An incredible ride by the Italian champ!
36 years old and still a contender! What a guy and to think that I lived only a few miles away from him in Cardiff. 🏴
He lives in Monaco lol
Lived….
Wow! Really impressive hard work by Gerant Thomas! Really serious about winning the Giro de Italia!
G is back in pink but he was dropped by a mile on the indoor trainer earlier this year by Ollie. That makes Ollie Bridgewood the #1 favourite for next year‘s Giro.
You clearly don’t know this sport
@@lorenzopiglia5931 You clearly don‘t recognise a joke. 🙃
We just need to get the rest of the presenters in shape so he has some domestiques!
@@gcnracing Connor is on the best way with his Unbound training, Si is just back from altitude the now it‘s on Dan.
😂😂😂
The Irish riders Ben Healy and Eddie Dunbar had a good day today.
Ben now has the KOM jersey and Eddie moved up to 5th Place.🚲🚲🚲🚲
They're doing wonderful, congrats!
Love that G smiling all the way! Looking awesome, and managing to keep entertaining Watts Occurring updates throughout! What a superstar!
What a ride by Seb. Always does a solid for the Jumbo GC contenders
Seb? Vettel? Ah, it's Sepp!
In Germany "Sepp" is short for "Josef". But only in the south. In the west it's "Jupp"
Sepp has always excelled in the mountains since he came onto the pro scene. He needs to do two things. Improve his TT and swap teams. With that he might become a GC contender himself, rather than just a supporter. But if his TT stays middle of the pack and he stays at Visma (where he’ll be second not only to Rog but also Vin) then he’ll only ever be a super dom.
Are you not entertained now? G looks in good shape. More brutal stages to come in a couple days.
It's going to be a battle for the ages! Força, Almeiiiiiidaaaaaa! 🚵🚵🚵🚵🚵
Rooting for UAE Emirates.....Well done Almeida!!!
Força João Almeida 💪
Rumo á ROSA
Abraço desde Aveiro 🇵🇹
Almeida Este Ano Para A Vitória! 🇵🇹🚴🇵🇹
Grande João Almeida!! Força 🇵🇹
I've never followed a cycle race before but this has me gripped. Amdani, G!
BOTA LUME 🇵🇹🥸
Well done G!!
Well done G.
Thomas is amazing!!
G Thomas been practicing very well!! The result is awesome!
Steady Eddie looking great
Vamos João ❤️🇵🇹❤️🇵🇹
Vai Joao Almeida,
Carregaaaaaaa
👍👌
I wish remco was still here it would have been a great gc battle today
Personally I think its more existing without remco cus he'll just dominate everyone
remco would be the first one to get dropped. so yh, it definitely would've been great.
Yeah, whether you think he would have dropped or not, just the fact that he had almost a minute on a lot of contenders would have made them race more aggressively which the race has been sorely lacking until today
@@nicholasloduca6668 u think remco's absence made this giro boring? out of curiousity, were u entertained by the races prior to remco's forfeiture? and here i thought it was a combination of bad weather, slippery road and flu ridden peleton. remco's presence would've somehow elevated their general wellbeing? also, since remco's departure, there has been only one GC stage, cransmontana which the officials deemed dangerous and made it shorter (75K) thus making it obsolete. remco's presence was gonna somehow animate that stage? and today was the day, when GC battle was suppose to finally commence and, did it not? rohan dennis and co, jay vine and co drilled it and made it as hard as they possibly could. u think remco's attendence would've somehow made them work harder? or that somehow for the first time in remco's career he's gonna survive a vert climb of 6,000 meters? which he has never done before. somehow primoz, G or almeida were gonna put down more watts exceeding their physiological limitations? this giro is a handicap edition. remco's participation is arbitrary. that's like saying, the race would've been more interesting if tao, vlasov, pedersen, groves hand't DNFed.
@@sudsehun76 I just think it would have made others a little more aggressive in some of the prior stages since the gap he had is bigger than even what they are right now between the top 3🤷♂. Once he was out, everyone in the top places was all around the same time, which I think promoted the watching and waiting that we got. Of course the race would have more interesting with riders like Remco or Tao in it. Just sad it's not what we got
That was special from a man 2 days before his 37th birthday.
202km and >5500km, wtf.....tomorrow's downhill stage will feel so good!!! "Guys, can we all just agree to roll the whole way please?" 😀
Let's GO G!
Grande Almeida...Da' lhe Lume
Lets GO GERAINT!!!!
Go G!!!!!
BORA JOÃO !!!!
Ben healy and Eddie Dunbar doing us so proud. Great to see g back in pink hope he wins it out now
what a wonderful place to cycle
Not sure if Evanapoel would have survived in thst company today...would like to have seen Tao G's form in that stage. 🤔
I thought Thomas was about to crack Almeida from their faces when Almeida was in Thomas’ wheel with 2K or so to go! Strong ride from both
Almeida definitely has the best pain face in the peloton!
Delighted for G, Dunbar and Ben Healy
It was an incredible ride by Eddie Dunbar! Do you think he can take a top 5 in the GC?
Hope you have signed up Jens for Le Tour. Great addition to the commentary team.
I'm rooting for G
João Almeida vai ganhar o Giro de Italia 💪✌️
Almeida and the Portuguese Europort tv commenters are the Best. Even the French LOL
Back in pink, come on G!
I think that we all know who is going to be on the final podium in Rome, but we don't yet know in which order. It's going to be a very interesting and exciting final week!
Who do you think will top the podium?
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💪
Anyone know which enves used by Almeida for this stage? 3.4ses, 4.5ses? Thanks
GJ
UAE doing UAE things. Love to Almeida from the USA.
Now I'm really rooting for G.Thomas. Once a champion will always have a heart and mind of a champion and that is what seperates him from the kids.
Lets go geraint 👊
Go Ed Thomas!
Maybe wrong from jumbo to push. In the end they helped only Almeida and G
Yes, why would they volunteer to do that...? Seems silly
A little over 30 seconds gap doesn't seem so bad but now Ineos with their pretty decimated squad have to lead. Not sure if it was their actual tactic but if it was I think it's very smart. JV now can sit back and watch the show and save energy for another day.
I can't see Ineos leading when they can double bluff everyone else. G shown he can stay with Almeida. All the minor places are still up for grabs.
Tadej pogačar go to altitude training 26.5. Sierra Nevada. 50%50 in top form to tour the France?
Hurrah! Cav is retiring. No more whining and complaining from him about having to climb hills.
Still lots of climbing to go and Ineos now down to just 5 riders with a DNF from Sivakov whereas TJV have 8 riders (UAE have 7), so I would not count out Roglic from winning yet. Clearly he was affected by the crash at the beginning of week two were “he lost some meat” as he put it and needed stitches but his form is recovering.
Who do you think will win the maglia rosa?
It's interesting that the stage top 10 consisted of 9 nationalities and the GC top 10 is 10 nationalities. Makes me feel good about the future of cycling!
Forsa G
This Giro is amazing... Too bad it's not on ESPN Brazil! 🥺🥺
It's on GCN+ in Brazil! You can watch every stage here 👉 gcn.eu/giro2023 📺
Vamos Almeida CARALHO!!
roglic able to win the giro this year..he got super power in last 100m but in stage 16 got wrong tactic😊😊
Due limonate e quattordici limoni amari fino adesso !!!
Very dark, turn the lights up dear
In Roglic we trust ❤❤❤… the man is made of iron and he surely will bounce back.
No he isn't. He always fades in the third week. Thomas is tour de france champion, Roglic will never be one, he had his chance he and he crumbled.
@@patrickbateman7444 LOL
@@kelvincheng9560 His career ended on that day on the planches des belles filles. Pogacar took his soul
@@patrickbateman7444 sit loser. Thanks for the Giro win 👌
@@JanezMLGucek Hahaha, still triggered i see. He beat a 37 year old...barely. Remco would have won easily.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
First hour 52km/hr? WTF. Are they going down a slight incline?
Twice--"It would be an uphill task for him to keep the jersey" knowing how much climbing was in store. An "uphill" task indeed!
JOAO ALMEIDA IS A BEAST!
Finally..thanks..Better late than never
So Cavendish is retiring at the end of the season, but will he be in the Td France this year?
Yes, barring injury / illness
That's the plan! Do you think he can break the stage win record?
@@gcnracing if Cav rides the Td France in this his final year before retiring I think he'll give it everything to win a stage and become the greatest TdF stage winner in history, I'm surprised he's sat out some TdF's these past few years.
Guess now we know why GT & Inos deliberately lost the GC & Pink Jersey on stage 14 if it was to prove to the cycling world that he can win on merit.
Still there are plenty of big stages coming to change the batting order.
For those that remember what Chris Froome had done with that incredible stage 19 run 2018
Thomas is looking great. But. There is also Almeida. It will be fun to watch their battle. Roglič is not on their level.
Hahahahahahah you are crazy
Who do you think will win the maglia rosa?
@@gcnracing Thomas.
@@gcnracing Roglic
G barloword look it up who is the oldest winner of the giro just askink?
and soudal quickstep? they should team up with some other team or something...
nothing quite so fitting as a welsh and irishman leading off the most rainy giro
Think Almedia will feel this effort. Lucky for him it’s a flat day tomorrow.
Maybe why he pushed today?
Tactic 😱
what would make you think so?
he's proved time and time again he's at his best in the third week
Almeida might knew how tomorrow's stage will be before deciding to attack as he did...

what happened with Evenepoel?
He got a cold.

What was up with that intro music? Jeez
What with only 3 people for GC
Well, last year's Tour and La Vuelta had only two so, why are you complaining?
IS ok Primož wil win last Time trial by 1min,like Pogačar in tour the France 2021
devalued Giro,supposedly Covid 19 is the reason,lol
Uuh eeeh iii emirates

Primoz seems in pain, not in tip top condition...
Not looking good for roglic
Do you think he can bounce back in the remaining stages?
@@gcnracing Probably, but i think he will come up short on the giro
Feel bad for the natural Cyclists

Show less of the map and more of the race.
after 16 days.. yeah this giro was really borring to watch
Go watch something else with a very short attention span needed.
@@bruno_dias Nothing to do with attention span. It has been a poor race so far, for a number of factors.
@Gary "Poor race"!? You seemed like an American watching "soccer" and complaining is boring because they they score few goals per match.
@@bruno_dias he @gary5926 is right. Almost 50 riders are already home. No fight for the point jersey and it took 16 days for a gc battle. This giro was a really bad 1 to watch if you compare it to last years.
@@larsstavenuiter424 It is very subjective. In general there are a lot of riders going home earlier on the Giro. There are still a lot of great riders. There's still fight for all jerseys. Last year's points classification was already decided in stage 16 with bigger differences than this year. It seems people like you don't really follow cycling and really don't watch the stages. For example, this year's breakaways are fantastic with great battles. Please, stop moaning if you don't have anything else to comment.
Painful to watch Roglic crack
Always love to see Roglic bottle it and shut his noisy Slovenian fans down! Go G/Almeida!
See you in Rome
I love it when Roglič shuts your hater mouth. Sit the fk down kiddo 🇸🇮
