Hi! It's a different kind of soft. The fox hair makes these more robust than the Z series, so if the Z series is like silk, the Ren series is like a nice, high quality cotton. If I'm really nitpicking, I think the Ren-04 can feel just a bit pokey if I use it for transition/crease work but otherwise it's OK for eyeshadow laydown. How soft are they to the skin? Are they as soft as the blue squirrel/ Z series?
