    To be honest, it's VERY common in real schools that teachers don't want to hear another student's side of the story. (Which is a big reason why most people don't like school in general).

    • @strawberrysoulforever8336

      That's one of the reasons I wanted to become a teacher, because I wanted to change that. I read about a girl who'd been picked on for months, and then when she finally made any kind of retaliation, she was expelled. What do you bet no one even asked her why she did it?

    • @strawberrysoulforever8336
      @strawberrysoulforever8336 5 лет назад +28

      @Leanna S. Yes, this happened in my school. No matter how many times you tell staff, it stops for about one day then starts up again. Another student mentioned in a letter that she'd spoken to her form teacher and he said it would just blow over, and she believed that the teachers didn't really care. Why talk to authority if their methods involve doing nothing or blaming the victims?

      Just remembered, there's another time when Wartz does that. In Season 3, there was an episode where he slipped on fake vomit. We find out at the end that it was dropped by the drama teacher accidentally, but Wartz just, completely at random, accuses Sid because he was one of the kids laughing. Would he listen when Sid tried to defend himself? No. Did he have any kind of proof, other than the fact that Sid was laughing? Certainly not. Did he even think it might have been a different kid since most of the cafeteria was laughing? No way! I know it was an exaggerated episode, but I'm pretty sure similar things can happen on a smaller scale and the accused student is given no opportunity to explain it's not their fault, or if they do, they aren't believed.

    Ok Curly's Girl actually got under my skin because
    A. A friend of mine was caught in a situation like this with her "boyfriend" exploiting her
    B. Curly and Rhonda had an unhealthy relationship and people felt bad for Curly the only way this episode would work if Arnold or her friends try to get her to break up with Curly

      This is probably gonna sound weird, but there's actually a fanfiction of Curly's Girl, called Rhonda's Beau. The major differences being;
      1) Replace Curly with Arnold,
      2) Instead of blackmailing, it's an accident that leads to Arnold and Rhonda trying to think of a way for the two of them to break up with neither of them looking like the bad guy.

    I think it's important to remember that Sid has been shown in multiple episodes to be _immensely_ paranoid. When he gets an idea into his head, he oftentimes goes balls to the wall with it. No matter how illogical it is. And considering a bag of money went missing, something that's very tangible, I can understand how he went extra nuts.

    You could make a very slim argument that the reason Rhonda didn't tell anyone about the blackmailing is because she didn't want to admit that Curly wielded power over her for a short time. That's in line with her character, but it's not necessarily what the writers were thinking. Also, another note: I think Curly's line of thinking was that if Rhonda was forced to give him a chance, he'd win her over. That obviously was never going to happen, but Curly didn't even consider that his plan wouldn't work.

    • @slick_3617
      @slick_3617 5 лет назад +12

      Great points. I think this was a bit of a character exploration rather than a simple moral lesson. And as for Olga being "stupid", I think it was more so that she was out of touch with Helga and the kids. She's always been perfect, it's likely that she doesn't realize how much of a jerk most kids can be so she sees the best of them, she sees herself when she's the 1%. And Helga's feelings toward her don't line up with her experiences because she's just projecting her parents failure on to Olga because she sees it as her fault. Best thing about this show is characters have real flaws and behave like real people rather than a mindless collection of tropes.
      You could also say the point of Curly's Girl is that don't always be so quick to judge people in the moment, things might not be what they seem.

Follows the exact setup as Roller Coaster, except Roller Coaster is actually good. Season 5 was awful. Honorable mention: Big Bob’s Crisis (mostly for how it ends). Helga ends up encouraging bob to go back to how he used to be (verbally abusive and rampant with toxic masculinity) because that’s the dad she loved?? It literally just enforces that shitty message about how you have to accept family no matter how toxic they are. Miss me with that

      @strangetownie6888 I hear ya. I wish that it had benefited from a rewrite and gone into a 'Rhonda's Glasses' approach where the first 3-4 minutes are left intact but have Arnold show Rhonda the rough lives of these poor people in town and her learning something in the end.
      I will say on a positive note though: If HA! ends up coming back for a sixth season (with the characters aged up), I can see Rhonda going through a redemption arc as well as Arnold dating her while temporarily breaking up with Helga. (Just like that early Family Guy episode where Peter and Lois were forced to go on a trial separation)
      And I think the reason why Rhonda's the way she is may most likely be due to her upbringing. (AKA her parents)

      True, but the problem is that he still unfairly attacked her and even when Helga was AGREEING with him, which he seemed to ignore and didn't even notice she wasn't being hostile (which is also odd for a character like his who generally notices stuff like that) he kept going and then brought up Lila and how she's a better person and all that stuff in not so many words. That was low for him and a punch in the gut. We've never seen Helga hit Arnold and to my knowledge, she never has, but I wouldn't have been surprised if she'd actually done it.

    Full Moon- I hated this episode a few times before and do now! Because I felt so disappointed that Arnold was being unfairly punished! So I consider this episode to be one of my worst picks.
    Principle Simmons- Okay, I don't hate this episode as much as you do Jem. But it's not perfect either, I consider it to be "Meh."
    Bag of Money- I hate this as much as Full Moon. Same troupe used again in this episode: Arnold being unnecessarily tortured. What made me mad is Sid. I just hate his appearance in this episode for so many reasons. But I do consider it to be as bad as Full Moon.
    Student Teacher- Okay, I don't hate this episode as much as you do as well Jem. I know Olga's role in this episode didn't click with me. But I don't hate this episode.
    DIShonorable mentions:
    Big Sis- "Meh."
    New Bully on the Block- "Not half bad."
    Egg Story- Arnold's worst appearance in the entire series. But it does remind me even Arnold is not perfect and can have OOC moments and this episode is just so bad that I cringed at this episode. But I do like the decent ending though!
    Curly's Girl- Okay....I don't hate this episode. I just found it really underrated for me to explain. So, it's not that bad.

    People use "Egg Story" as an example of Arnold being out of character, but you can at least understand him being frustrated with Helga. A much better example of him being out of character is "Gerald's Game". Before it was established that Gerald was addicted to the game and allowing it to take over his life, Arnold completely dismissed his interest in it ("It sounds dumb to me.", or something to that affect.)

    hey jem good reviews and i completely agree especially with number 2 1 being the worst. However, in student teacher, it should be known that olga's character on this episode reveals that her straight A's education is hollow, meaning that it is revealed that despite having great grades, she has learned every little from them. as in Olga comes home, her having to perform in front of her family also reflects on her education. she only gets straight A's because she has to, not because she wants or is actually learning from it. i think student teacher reveals that but it is not explicitly shown. as for Curly's girl, that episode sucks because i feel Curly completely wasted a great opportunity for Rhonda to get to know him. instead of having him and Rhonda just hang out and talk, he goes bonkers and forces Rhonda to act as his gf and he you said it, there is no moral of the story here, only perhaps condoning Curly's behaviour. the same can be said for Egg Story

    How come you never mentioned or put "Phoebe's Little Problem" on this list? Many people hate that episode because to them it's a poorly written episode. Phoebe accidentally lets out gas after she ate prune cookies and got so humiliated and eventually became depressed to the point where her classmates had to come to her house to cheer her up. It's a story that is set up very well, but they botched it up when the writers basically had to shove Helga to the background and cut Gerald out altogether to make Arnold the star problem solver again. Would have been better if Phoebe could have counted on either Gerald or her best friend Helga to try and help her out more in the beginning, even if their ideas ended up failing. In my opinion, it is a Top 5 Worst Episode, and could be an episode pretty close to "Curly's Girl" and even "Arnold Betrays Iggy" the latter of which will always be the worst in my opinion.

      @@LilyZerep I personally think curly’s girl is worse than arnold betrays iggy. At least you can sympathize with Iggy to some degree, I mean his embarrassing secret was leaked so you can understand his anger. It’s the fact that he was an SOB thereafter. However, curly was a little SOB right from the get go and there’s no sympathizing with him. He uses Rhonda’s jacket stain problem as a means of taking advantage of her. He blackmails and forces her to be his girlfriend, there’s no excuse for that. After the relationship was over and she harshly broke up with him, rightfully so, everyone in the school hates her and curly just lets it happen. Then you have characters like Nadine and Arnold acting completely out of character by joining in the backlash. Then at the end we’re meant to believe that Curly redeemed himself by letting Rhonda off the hook. Only that doesn’t even begin to make up for all the misery he put her through. So with that being said I think Curly’s girl is far worse than Arnold betrays Iggy.

The premise doesn't feel like as much of a problem because Sid has freakouts about supernatural elements in other episodes, but still, he tries to kill his best friend until Arnold points out that he has a reflection...and the end of the episode suggests that Sid was right all along. My point is, this behaviour Sid exhibits in "Bag Of Money" is not unusual for him. It's just a lot crueler.

    Well Arnold didn't know Helga liked him in the episode the egg also him putting his foot down isn't to much outta character if he's finally had enough of her crap and the only lesson I can think that Curly's girl was trying to teach was that it isn't ok to blackmail people because Curly did learn it was wrong of him to do that to her in the end. But they definitely didn't do it in a smart way.

      @@pepito2847 Helga is only picking on Arnold because she likes him and is written to be the sympathetic bully character. Also Helga picking on Arnold often backfires on her. Though in "girl trouble" it got out of hand and Arnold was punished, ugh. Similarly in Arnold betrays Iggy, the writers treat Arnold like the bad guy for something he didn't do and puts him through hell just to earn someone's forgiveness, in the end everyone mocks him (even his own grandfather) and the real culprits get off Scott free.

    Another dishonorable mention:
    "THE SEWER KING", from Season 1.
    Two words to describe this episode: 'frustrating' and 'forgettable'. After Arnold (with Gerald accompanying him in this 'underground journey') retrieving the watch to his grandpa, Phil drops it back through the sink, thus making the watch return to the Sewer King. Right after that, grandpa Phil reveals that he has a drawer full of watches, much to Arnold's deception.
    It brings me a feeling of unfulfillment! Doing a favor to someone important to you to gain their trust and then that person ruins your expectations...
    I forgot this episode back in the day and I decided watching the whole series sequentially. And I felt disappointed upon watching it again!

      One thing that bothers me is a huge cliche in Anime Most villains are psychotic, arrogant, and completely insane They're made this way because it makes their defeats more satisfying, but they really aren't The reason why it's a cliche is because it's been done a billion times When Jotaro (The main character of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's 3rd part) defeats Steely Dan (a minor antagonist and one of those cliched psychotic, arrogant characters) it isn't even satisfying at all because it's exactly like the defeats of many villains I've seen already (The characters that are in the same category as Steely Dan) As for cartoons, I remember watching Futurama and liking it Then I saw the extremely messed up sausage festival episode The one where everyone thinks Fry got.... Well, it's too disturbing to describe The episode made me stop watching Sorry if that sounds petty

    I found it odd that even Big Bob and Miriam were out of character in Student Teacher. While Olga is talking about wanting to help children, Bob is visible annoyed and bored along with his wife.
    Usually they can't get enough of Olga. I don't understand that part to this day.
    Also, I think the writers needed some type of bad thing to justify Helga's hatred of her sister. In all other episodes with Olga, she's really not bad and wants to bond with Helga.

    Top 1 was the cringiest episode for me. I just understand that Curly was insane, and Rhonda had an image. That’s why I forgave it. I hate the mooning more than Curly’s girl, but it wasn’t cringe; it was just blind principle.
    Just my thoughts, and my thoughts when I was a kid at that time.

    I disagree with the Student Teacher Pick. Olga being that way to Helga isnt bad characterization considering Olga never was much of a character when she debut. In the episode where she comes home, she literally forced herself into despair because she thought she got a B on her report card and did nothing but groan about. Her parents weren't even mad that she got a B. There was no reason for her to act that way despite claiming she is always held to high expectations. In that particular episode her parents still supported her. Big Bob was trying to bribe her out of moping the whole time but he never punished her for the B or anything. It was no way a better Olga episode. In Student teacher, they at least show why Helga doesn't like Olga even if it is a retcon. Olga is very ignorant but tries to do what she assumes would benefit Helga, and her never being around for Helga alienates their interactions which I see in the episode.

    I don't like Curly's girl but I don't hate it either because it made me realize that Curly and Rhonda are interesting and under written characters 😂
    I like how Brainy despite his character only literally existing so Helga can get a taste of her own stalkish medicine, is less creepy than Curly. But Curly is also more interesting since he gives me school shooter vibes hut he also has his moments
    (eg. I like how Curly was never a reoccurring character until the episode where Rhonda became a "geek" and inspired the other geeks to stand up for themselves, Curly probably saw Rhonda in a different light because of that.
    I also like how Curly and Rhonda are exact opposites but both have their moments. I could imagine if they did get into a relationship, Rhonda would learn how to care less about clout and materialism too much and value other parts of herself, and Curly could learn how not to be creepy and not shoot the school when things don't go his way 😂)

    I watched Curly's Girl, and the only part that made me laugh was how Curly said, "Doesn't it? Or does the excitement THRILL YOU?!" The only reason I laughed at that was because of how over-the-top Curly said those last two words. He's still a disgusting little creep in that episode, especially with how the character, if not the episode, has been accused of justifying sexual harrassment (look up the episode on the Hey Arnold Wikia under Reception), but that was the only part that made me laugh in that episode

    In "Full Moon", the episode gives out a bad message showing that being a snitch is okay and confessing the truth is wrong as shown by Principal Wartz glaring at Arnold by demanding him to tell him who did the prank which was repeated in 2 more episodes on Cartoon Network, such as "The Precious, Wonderful, Adorable, Lovable Duckling" from Courage the Cowardly Dog and "Ed In a Halfshell" from Ed, Edd n Eddy. In my opinion Jem Reviews, there are already too many bad morals being repeated in every show on different episodes. By the way it was done on Full Moon was not a good start for season 4. Furthermore, Principal Wartz had shown children not only about snitching, he also taught children it is good to be a tattletale and kids need to grow-up and be bad like him.
